Iran cleric urges tough response after price protests turn political
A top cleric in Iran's second largest city of Mashhad called for tough action by security forces after hundreds of people took to the streets to protest against high prices and shouted anti-government slogans, state news agency IRNA said on Friday.

Police arrested 52 people in Thursday's protests, the semi-official Fars news agency quoted a judicial official as saying in Mashhad, one of the holiest places in Shi'ite Islam.

Political protests are rare in Iran. But demonstrations are often held by workers over layoffs or non-payment of salaries and people who hold deposits in non-regulated bankrupt financial institutions.

"If the security and law enforcement agencies leave the rioters to themselves, enemies will publish films and pictures in their media and say that the Islamic Republic system has lost its revolutionary base in Mashhad," IRNA quoted prominent conservative cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Alamolhoda as saying.

Updated: Gunmen open fire at Coptic Christian church near Cairo, 9 Dead
[10News] Nine people have been killed after gunmen opened fire at a Coptic Christian church near the Egyptian capital of Cairo, the Health Ministry told CNN.

One of the attackers was also killed by Egyptian security forces, said ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed.

The assault was carried out at the St. Mina Coptic church in Helwan, a district on the southern edge of the Egyptian capital. It was not immediately clear who the attackers were or how many were involved.

Among the nine killed were eight Christians and a police officer, who was Muslim.

Five others have been injured, including two in critical condition, according to the Health Ministry.

A security cordon has been put up at the scene and senior officials have arrived at the site. Images from the scene show blood stains on the outside of the building.
Update from Al Ahram at 11:30 a.m. ET (marked as their third update since the story broke, so there may be future updates at this link):
Two unidentified gunmen killed nine people as they opened fire early Friday on a church south of Cairo, ahead of Coptic Christian celebrations next week, Egypt's state TV and health ministry said.

Security forces shot dead one of the assailants in an exchange of fire outside the church of Mar Mina in Helwan district while the other assailant has been captured, state TV and state news agency MENA said.

Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed told state television that nine people — including a Muslim and eight Christians — had been killed, in addition to the gunman, and five injured. Those wounded include two women in critical condition, he added.

State TV aired footage of the assailant's body, showing a bearded man wearing an explosive vest lying on the ground as crowds gathered.

The interior ministry said in a statement in the afternoon that it arrested an attacker on a motorcycle who attempted to drive through security forces outside the church armed with a machinegun, ammunition and a bomb that he intended to detonate in the church.

The ministry said he killed two people when he opened fire on a shop before heading to the church where he shot dead seven people, including a policeman.

The arrested attacker is an active terrorist who has carried out a number of terrorist attacks targeting police and civilians, the statement added.

Trump Sends Out Tweet On Cold Weather And Global Warming, People Lose Their Minds
[Pirates Cove] I wonder, have the Trump haters considered that he’s just doing this to mess with them? That he knows they will lose their collective minds, and that he and the folks around him are getting a good laugh? And that his tweets cause the Credentialed #Resist Media to chase rabbits down holes while Trump and his folks go off and do things that the media misses during that time?

Russia butt hurt over Japan Buying U.S. Military Equipment, Slams Global Anti-Missile System
[Newsweek] Russia lashed out against the U.S. on Thursday and accused Washington of violating a decades-old arms control treaty by agreeing to supply Japan with a missile defense system.

As tensions heat up in the Pacific region, specifically on the Korean peninsula, Japan finalized plans to purchase two U.S.-built missile defense systems. The news prompted a response from Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, who claimed the deal was part of a U.S. plan to install a "global anti-missile system."

She also said the system would damage Moscow’s relationship with Japan.

Russia has consistently lashed out when neighboring countries purchase U.S. missile defense systems, which Moscow claims have the capability of launching missiles. Former communist countries such as Poland and Romania have both purchased missile defense systems from the U.S., a fact that riled Moscow, caused tensions between Russia and the Obama administration, and prompted further complaints from Zakharova as recently as last month.

Gaystapo activist files discrimination lawsuit against Aurora hospital and its security
[Denver Post] A former member of Denver’s LGBTQ Commission says his civil rights were violated last year when a security guard at an Aurora hospital tackled him in anger as the activist was leaving the premises.

JaxZion Justice Deak, a Denver gender activist, also is accusing The Medical Center of Aurora and its contracted security firm HSS of failing to train employees and adopt policies on how to interact with transgender patients and their visitors, according to a lawsuit filed Dec. 22 in Denver District Court.

Deak, who recorded the incident on his cellphone, named the hospital, the security firm and the security guard, Yamada Garner, as defendants. The lawsuit was filed under Deak’s legal name, Elizabeth Erin Deak. Deak identifies as gender noncomforming and prefers male pronouns.

Deak, an activist who volunteers with transgender homeless people in Denver, is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.

A phone call to a spokeswoman at HSS’s Denver headquarters was not returned. A spokesman for The Medical Center of Aurora took a message from a reporter but did not follow up with a response.

Last December, one of Deak’s clients asked him to come for a visit in the behavioral health unit at the Aurora medical center because he was in crisis, the lawsuit said. The client had given Deak his patient identification number.

President Trump Blasts Joe Manchin For Refusing To Work With Him
[Daily Caller] President Donald Trump blasted West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin in an interview with The New York Times Thursday night.

Trump criticized Manchin and other Democrats for refusing to work with Republicans on issues like health care or taxes. The president said Manchin is all talk but no action, and mentioned that the Democratic senator has contacted him multiple times expressing interest in working together on bipartisan issues, but said Manchin has never followed through.

"Like Joe Manchin," Trump said in the interview. "He talks. But he doesn’t do anything. He doesn’t do," Trump said. "’Hey, let’s get together, let’s do bipartisan.’ I say, ’Good, let’s go.’ Then you don’t hear from him again."

Trump’s comments come as Republicans got their first major legislative win since he took office by passing the the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Dec. 20. Trump signed the GOP tax reform bill into law two days later.

Manchin is up for re-election in 2018, but said in August that he doesn’t care about being reelected.

Dems are polling high, prog candidates are having a great fundraising year, but the DNC is broke
[Boing Boing] The DNC continues to struggle to raise cash, holding only $6.3M in the bank on Dec 1, compared to the RNC's $40M. But the numbers are deceiving, because 50% of the country want the Democrats to control Congress in 2018 (compared with 39% who want the GOP to retain power) and individual Democrat candidates are having banner years fundraising, especially the progressive, "Sanders Democrats" who break with the party's coziness with the finance industry and big business.

The DNC's empty coffers are the result of a general mistrust of the party establishment: from former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile's revelations that the party "let Clinton's headquarters in Brooklyn [manage the Democratic Party] it desired so she didn't have to inform the party officers how bad the situation was," to the many misdeeds of former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Shultz.

During the Obama years, the DNC was starved of attention and scrutiny as the Obama team did their own fundraising and outreach, with their own systems.

Then there was the DNC's lawyers who literally told a judge that they believed they could ignore all primary votes and choose the party's candidates "in smoke filled back rooms."

I gave money to the DNC in the 2016 election cycle (I also donated to the Sanders campaign and several downticket candidates from the Sanders wing of the party) and so I get a steady stream of fundraising phone-calls and circulars from the DNC. I often tell the phone canvassers that the party's coziness with finance and its position on "smoke-filled back rooms" mean that I have no confidence in the DNC, and send my money directly to the kinds of candidates who are usually pushed out in those smoke-filled back rooms.

On several occasions, the phone canvasser has confessed that they do the same thing.

#1  Well, at lease we know where some of the money is going:

FBI Agents Association reports $140K in donations amid Trump criticism

The announcement comes several days after Benjamin Wittes, a journalist and friend of former FBI Director James Comey, tweeted that he donated $1,000 to the organization in retaliation for Trump's Twitter attacks on FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

"The President is impugning the integrity of the FBI by attacking two honorable public servants: Jim Baker and Andy McCabe. I just donated $1,000 to the @FBIAgentsAssoc in their names. I urge others to give as well and tweet that you did so to #thanksFBI," Wittes tweeted Saturday.

He was quickly joined by other critics of the president, including MSNBC "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough.

Government
Faster please! The First Anti-American President
[PJ] Barack Obama will no doubt be chronicled, among other things, as the first anti-American president. No wonder; he’s the product of an educational system that has become increasingly radical and anti-American with each passing decade, and his mother was a stereotypical leftist anthropologist with a passion for the Third World.

The pattern is unmistakable. As Luis Fleischman notes, Obama wanted to make deals with our enemies, Iran being the most dramatic example. But just look at Latin America:

The Obama Administration tried to avoid confrontations with anyone it wanted to make a "historic deal" with. Most of these "historic deals" were intended to be made with enemies, as Obama desperately sought an agreement not only with Iran, but also with Cuba and reconciliation with Venezuela.

Thus, Obama failed to insist on the extradition of Venezuelan military and drug trafficker Hugo Carvajal from Aruba and the Syrian-born Venezuelan drug lord Walid Makled from Colombia. Carvajal was the chief of Venezuelan military intelligence and Makled is one of the most notorious drug traffickers in the Western Hemisphere. Makled himself disclosed his own cooperation with scores of the highest officials within Chavez’s government -- including Carvajal himself, with the chiefs of the Venezuelan army and navy, as well as with dozens of Venezuelan generals.

The Obama people did not want to know the details of Venezuela’s collusion with the drug Mafiosi. If you have followed the story of the obstruction of the DEA investigation of Hezbollah, you will recognize the pattern. Indeed, it is part of the story.

Europe
Intelligence of Norwegians and Danes on the wane, say researchers
h/t Gates of Vienna
The study was conducted by James Flynn, a leading researcher of intelligence quotient (IQ) measurement, writes Norwegian news agency NTB.

IQ in the Scandinavian countries had been on the up for decades, but the trend has now been reversed, according to a report published by journal Intelligence.

Measures taken as part of the study have shown that, in Norway, fewer people are reaching higher levels of mathematical and linguistic ability.

The trend is similarly prominent in both Denmark and Norway and even more so in Finland.

"This signals without doubt a depletion of people with high cognitive abilities," Flynn said according to NTB’s report.

The IQ of Norwegians had been increasing since 1950 until a turning point around 1995, writes the agency.
That was before they stated letting in hordes of refugees - so what's the explanation?
An annual reduction of IQ by 0.21 percent on average has been measured in Norwegians since that year, equivalent to a 6.5 percent decrease between generations.

Police must stop training officers to believe rape complainants automatically says ex-High Court [UK] judge
h/t Instapundit
Rape complainants must not automatically be believed by Police a former High Court judge said last night - following the collapse of three high profile cases.

He slammed the crisis and said that police forces shouldn't train their officers to presume that suspects are guilty.

Ex-High Court judge, Sir Richard Henrique's comments reflected the collapse of several rape cases where it was found that police had failed to investigate properly. Which included police withholding evidence from defence lawyers.

This was seen in the cases of Liam Allan, Samuel Armstrong and Isaac Itiary.

In two cases text messages revealed the men's innocence. In Mr Allan's case messages showed that the complainant had told friends she had enjoyed having sex with him.

Similarly messages revealed that Isaac Itiary, who had been charged with statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl, did not know her age as in the messages she had claimed she was 19.

Tory MP’s aide, Samuel Armstrong, 24 was cleared of rape as it emerged evidence was only disclosed eight days before trial said today police and CPS do it because it 'makes getting convictions easier'.

[Townhall] As 2017 comes to a close, tumbleweeds roll down the empty Lido Deck while the Republican base answers the question, "What if Conservative, Inc., gave a cruise and nobody came?" The Democrats fled Washington under cover of darkness, desperate to keep their slobbering socialist wing from forcing them to commit ritual suicide by closing down the government over Christmas because the GOP Congress (for now) won’t hand a couple million illegal aliens citizenship. Robert Mueller’s Keystone Kop Korps started off with "unquestioned integrity" and ended the year with totally questioned integrity. The mainstream media abandoned the principle of objectivity in favor of shrill advocacy, yet it is baffled that most Americans now consider its members like just another bunch of partisan hacks.

In the White House, where everyone who was anyone told us Felonia Milhous von Pantsuit would reign, President Donald Trump finished the year by signing a tax reform bill that punished conservatives’ enemies and rewarded their friends. The Democrats get to go tell their base of blue state coastal swells, "Uh, sorry about losing those state tax deductions cuz we were too busy resisting to actually negotiate and thereby get a seat at the table." Cue the Sad Trombone. Trump plays for keeps, unlike the squish-cons who play for media hugs and invitations to the kool kidz’ parties.

He was supposed to lose the primary, but he didn’t. He was supposed to lose the general, but he didn’t. He was supposed to fall victim to the covert schemes of leftist bureaucrats and the overt obstruction of The Resistance, but he didn’t. Instead, Donald Trump has prospered as the most conservative president since Ronald Reagan. And it’s breaking the souls of his enemies. Deliciously.

The elite keeps losing to the guy they tell us is dumb. The elite keeps losing to the guy they tell us is a clown. The elite keeps losing to the guy who doesn’t meet their bottom line standard to be worthy of governing ‐ being one of the elite. So, what’s that make the elite?

He just refuses to lose. He just refuses to submit. He just refuses to give a damn about what they say or what they think. And that infuriates them. He won’t take a knee, but he will offer them a finger.

Brick by brick, he is disassembling the rickety edifice of Barack Obama’s transformed America. Regulations? Slashed, even as the screams of the professional expert class echo across the District of Columbia. ISIS? Dead, with our military unleashed to hunt down our enemies without hesitation or mercy. The Courts? Packed, not with squishy wimps ready to bend to the will of the WaPo and the Georgetown cocktail crew but with true conservatives determined to fight for the Constitution.

Trump’s enemies are getting tired of all the winning.

Slowly, it’s dawning on Trump’s enemies ‐ on our enemies ‐ that this isn’t just an unfortunate, temporary bump in the road to the Californiaization of America, but a U-turn. The people who elected Donald Trump were something his allegedly conservative Never Trump opponents never were: serious about being conservative. It’s easy to grift the donors with big talk about culture wars and policy initiatives when you never expect to be in a position to actually pull them off. But the Normals finally got sick of election year bomb-throwers morphing into pliable puffboys once their reps crossed into the Beltway. And that’s how you got Trump.

Geez guys, when they finally release the IG report on the FBI and Sessions get enough together for a grand jury on Operation Cassandra, do you think the WaPo is going to put that below the fold in the Classified Section???

Absolutely not, all of this stuff coming out now is front page stuff and they are going to have to report it as such. I do wonder how they will twist it to make it sound like something Donald did?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkish Red Crescent continues aid to Syria in 2017
Given the Turkish police previously discovered that Turkish aid trucks actually were delivering arms to certain jihadi groups rebelling against President Assad’s regime, what are we to think about this continued effort?
[AA.TR] Ottoman Turkish humanitarian organization sends nearly 7,000 truck-loads of aid to Syria in 2017

The Ottoman Turkish Red Islamic Thingy sent nearly 7,000 truck-loads of humanitarian aid to Syria in the year of 2017 alone, a Ottoman Turkish Red Islamic Thingy official told Anadolu Agency.

Hakan Sari, the head of the Ottoman Turkish Red Islamic Thingy’s Border Assistance, said The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
's largest humanitarian organization had maintained its aid support to all those in need within Turkey and Syria since 2011.

"As the Ottoman Turkish Red Islamic Thingy, our efforts in meeting peoples' needs continue to the best of our capacity. This year we have tried to reach out not only to the people in areas where Operation Euphrates Shield took place but also those in Idlib. We have sent Syria nearly 7,000 truck-loads of aid that we collected inside and outside Turkey," Sari explained, adding that the aid included not only food and sanitary supplies but also formula for children, medicine, medical and stationery supplies as well as variety of humanitarian aid materials.

"During Eid al-Adha [the feast of sacrifice], we distributed meat to thousands of families, with three kilos given to each family. We carried out special projects for Ramadan. We distributed fast-breaking menus to 10,700 houses per day [throughout the month of fasting]," Sari added.

He also mentioned the Ottoman Turkish Red Islamic Thingy's continued support to 12 orphanages and five camps in Idlib region, emphasizing the harsh conditions Idlib would find itself in once winter set in. "Nearly 700,000 people are living in 400 camps in Idlib," he said.

"Here at Red Islamic Thingy we were prepared for the winter months. The people are unable to meet their heating needs. We have recently finished distributing 5,000 heating stoves to the needy. We have also distributed beds, blankets, and coats, giving priority to the tent cities and orphanages."

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since 2011, when the Bashir al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the fighting and more than 10 million displaced, according to the UN.

Turkey hosts 3.2 million Syrian refugees, more than any other country in the world.

In the capital Ankara, 15 suspects were detained in an operation against the terrorist PKK’s social media structure, a security official, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media, told Anadolu Agency.

A probe by Ankara prosecutors found that suspects were promoting the terrorist PKK through their social media accounts, the source added.

Eighteen others were arrested in the southern Adana province, over similar allegations, according to another security source.

Security officials also found that some of the suspects were involved in the burning of construction equipment in 2012, in Adana.

The operation against the PKK/KCK terrorist groups was launched in the central Yuregir and Saricam districts along with the Ceyhan district.

Also, 38 suspects, including Syrian nationals, were arrested over alleged links to the terrorist organization ISIS in the northwestern Bursa province’s central Osmangazi and Yildirim districts and Inegol district.

In another operation centered in the southeastern Van province, 22 others were detained in three provinces, according to security sources.

Five additional suspects, including Syrian nationals, were apprehended in the western Manisa province.

In the northwestern Sakarya province, three Iraqi nationals were arrested over alleged links to the terrorist group ISIS, a security source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Some digital materials and money in the amount of $138,000 and more than 50,000 Ottoman Turkish lira ($13,000) were also seized during the operation at the suspects' address.

Meanwhile,

prosecutors in the eastern Bingol province issued arrest warrants for 26 suspects as part of an investigation into ISIS, said a statement by the office.

Later in the day, 21 suspects were arrested during Bingol-based operations, including in Istanbul.

Ottoman Turkish security forces detained eight others in the eastern Elazig province during an operation against ISIS.

During another operation in Istanbul, six foreign nationals, including one woman, were arrested in the Basaksehir, Umraniye, and Gungoren districts, a security source said.

An operation launched in the southeastern Gaziantep province led to the detention of 17 suspects, according to a statement by the governor's office.

A total of $111,800 in dollars and 55,195 Ottoman Turkish lira (approx. $14,500), a gun, two chargers, 220 cartridges, two shotguns were also seized along with many digital materials.

That’s one way to get rid of excess population...
[AA.TR] Six Shia fighters from a militia group linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (RGC) have been killed in Syria, according to Iranian media reports.

The six slain fighters from the Fatemiyoun Division, an RGC-linked Afghan Shia militia, were buried Thursday in Iran’s city of Qom, Iran’s Mehr News Agency

Exactly where the Shia bandidos Death Eaters were killed -- and who they were fighting -- remains unclear.

Supported by Tehran, the Fatemiyoun Division is an gang made up exclusively of Afghan Shia fighters.

In recent years, members of the division have fought in Syria alongside Iranian troops and other Shia militias in support of Syria’s Assad regime.

Iran hosts an estimated three million Afghans, many of whom have fled persecution and armed conflict in their home country.

Trump to repeal Obama fracking rule
[The Hill] The Trump administration will take its final step to repeal the Obama administration’s 2015 rule setting standards for hydraulic fracturing on federal land.

A formal notice from the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) making the repeal final was posted publicly Thursday and is due to be published in the Federal Register Friday.

The repeal is part of a broad Trump administration effort to repeal environmental rules it finds unnecessary and to promote domestic production of fossil fuels and other energy sources.

"This final rule is needed to prevent the unnecessarily burdensome and unjustified administrative requirements and compliance costs of the 2015 rule from encumbering oil and gas development on federal and Indian lands," the BLM wrote in the notice.

The BLM’s notice does not take a position on whether the agency ever had legal authority to enforce the law. Republicans and the oil industry say that it did not, as did a federal judge in Wyoming who overturned the rule, only to be later overruled on appeal.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Trump's website is coded with a broken server error message that blames Obama
Images of humor code at link.
[Yahoo] If you're a fan of easter eggs hidden in source code, this is a pretty good one. Apparently, as Washington Post data reporter Christopher Ingraham observed on Twitter, some Trump administration and GOP websites have a portion of code with a joke that throws shade at Obama's golf habits, the irony nowhere to be found.

We checked the source code and sure enough the line "Oops! Something went wrong. Unlike Obama, we are working to fix the problem... and not on the golf course" appears on action.donaldjtrump.com sites, like the one hosting this surely statistically sound, Obama-obsessed "Inaugural Year Approval Poll," but not on donaldjtrump.com pages.

As Ingraham pointed out, it's also present on some official GOP sites, including the GOP.com homepage. In both instances, the Obama dig is paired with a 404 error message that states "What do Hillary Clinton and this link have in common? They're both dead broke." Both the Obama and Clinton insults have a distinctly Trumpian vibe, but surely neither is an exercise in Freudian psychological projection.

To top it off, the code itself is apparently itself broken, swapping a single equal sign where there should be two. An honest mistake? Or perhaps the world was never meant to be gifted with these very good jokes at all?
Nah. They're there so liberal code Nazis can create a safe bubble for sniveling micro-aggressed liberals to bathe in by correcting Trump's code-grammar.
Thanks, Obama!

First batch of ByLock suspects released
[AA.TR] The first batch of people imprisoned on suspicion of using the encrypted ByLock mobile app linked to the group behind last year’s coup attempt were released Thursday.

Their release follows an announcement Wednesday that some alleged ByLock users had been unwittingly "directed" to the app.

Among the 28 freed from jail was Mustafa Yaman, the lawyer for the Felicity Party, who was sentenced to 7 years, 6 months over his purported use of ByLock.

Investigators have discovered that 11,480 smartphone users were directed to ByLock app without their knowledge, an official said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

They have been removed from an updated list of ByLock users passed to prosecutors across The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and courts have been told to reexamine cases.

ByLock was widely used by supporters of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) that orchestrated the July 15 coup attempt, which left 250 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Another Andalou article adds:
A former Ottoman Turkish politician imprisoned on suspicion of using the encrypted ByLock mobile app was released late Thursday.

Sukru Onder’s release follows an announcement that some alleged ByLock users had been unwittingly "directed" to the app.

Why is Maxine Waters Silent on The Terrorist Drug-Dealing Probe That Obama Shut Down?
Because she doesn't give a shit about her constituents and they respond by not giving a shit about it.
[Townhall] Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., once falsely accused President Ronald Reagan's CIA of all but causing urban cocaine dealing in the '80s. She claimed that Reagan, by working with Nicaraguan drug dealers to defeat the communists running that country, colluded with them to created the urban drug epidemic. Never mind that The New York Times, The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times all debunked Waters' claim.

At a town hall meeting about these allegations, Waters shouted, "If I never do anything else in this career as a member of Congress, I'm gonna make somebody pay for what they've done to my community and to my people!" Yet as to "Politico's" bombshell claim that in order to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran, President Barack Obama allowed an Iran-funded Hezbollah terrorist/drug-dealing mastermind who worked for Russian President Putin to continue to operate. Yet Waters, who calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment, has said absolutely nothing.

How desperate was Obama to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran?

In his zeal not to offend Iran so he could complete the deal, Obama halted a George W. Bush administration investigation of drug and human trafficking by the Iran-funded terror group Hezbollah. According to "Politico," the Obama administration angered investigators by interfering with and shutting down a well-funded and resourced Drug Enforcement Agency probe known as Project Cassandra.

In "The Secret Backstory of How Obama Let Hezbollah Off the Hook," Politico senior investigator Josh Meyer wrote about the investigation the government called "Project Cassandra" and Ali Fayad, a Hezbollah operative suspected of, among other things, of using profits from drug-dealing to finance terror operations and to move weapons to Syria.

Meyer writes: "When Project Cassandra leaders sought approval for some significant investigations, prosecutions, arrests and financial sanctions, officials at the Justice and Treasury departments delayed, hindered or rejected their requests.

"The Justice Department declined requests by Project Cassandra and other authorities to file criminal charges against major players such as Hezbollah's high-profile envoy to Iran, a Lebanese bank that allegedly laundered billions in alleged drug profits, and a central player in a U.S.-based cell of the Iranian paramilitary Quds force. And the State Department rejected requests to lure high-value targets to countries where they could be arrested. ...

"Lebanese arms dealer Ali Fayad, a suspected top Hezbollah operative whom agents believed reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin as a key supplier of weapons to Syria and Iraq, was arrested in Prague in the spring of 2014. But for the nearly two years Fayad was in custody, top Obama administration officials declined to apply serious pressure on the Czech government to extradite him to the United States, even as Putin was lobbying aggressively against it.

Indictment filed against terrorist who stabbed Jerusalem bus station guard
[IsraelTimes] Charges say assailant acted out of anger at Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital; victim, Asher Elmaliach, shows slight improvement, remains in intensive care

A Paleostinian terrorist was indicted in a Jerusalem court on Thursday for stabbing a security guard outside the capital’s central bus station earlier this month.

He was charged with "a terrorist act of attempted murder" and entering Israel illegally.

According to the charge sheet, on the morning of December 10, 24-year-old Yasin Abu al-Qar’a "said goodbye to his loved ones on the phone," purchased a knife and illegally traveled to Israel in order to carry out a terror attack in response to US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israel of capital.

After hearing the announcement, "the defendant planned to stab as many Jews as possible until he was killed and turned into a martyr," the indictment read.

The Shin Bet security service blamed "the incitement on the internet following the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital," saying it contributing to al-Qar’a’s decision to carry out the attack.

The night beforehand, he posted on Facebook: "In your path, O homeland, O Jerusalem, O Al Aqsa, our blood is cheap."

Al-Qar’a, from Wadi al-Fara, outside Nablus, bought the knife in another town in the northern West Bank, hiding it in his coat, and made his way to the city of Hadera, taking advantage of a permit that allowed him to enter the "seam zone" along the border of the West Bank, but not Israel proper.

Concerned about traveling on a public bus without a legitimate permit allowing him to be in Israel, al-Qar’a paid NIS 500 ($140) for a cab ride from Hadera to Jerusalem.

During the ride, he wrote a will on his phone, based on what he’d been taught in Paleostinian Authority schools, according to the indictment.

"Brother, oh brother, you are commanded by father and mother, and woe to you, sister, if you worry about me. For the homeland I have sacrificed my blood, everything for you, Paleostine," al-Qar’a wrote.

"In his interrogation by the Shin Bet and the police, the suspect said that he wrote the will before carrying out the attack with the deaders’ quote found in the textbooks of Paleostinian Authority textbooks," the Shin Bet said Thursday.

Once he reached Jerusalem, a little after 2 p.m., al-Qar’a approached the central bus station.

He was stopped at the door by a security guard, Asher Elmaliach, who asked him to go through a metal detector before entering. The detector went off repeatedly, as al-Qar’a had the knife hidden in his coat.

At that point, al-Qar’a determined that Elmaliach, 46, was Jewish and "decided to stab him to death," according to the charge sheet.

Graphic video footage from the scene showed Abu al-Qar’a slowly handing his belongings to Elmaliach, before suddenly taking out a knife and plunging it into the guard’s chest.

The knife pierced the right ventricle of Elmaliach’s heart, and he suffered considerable internal bleeding. An off-duty medic who was standing nearby rushed to help him.

Al-Qar’a tried to run from the scene, but he was quickly tackled to the ground by bystanders and coppers who saw the attack.

The Shin Bet determined that al-Qar’a acted entirely alone. He did not have a known history of involvement in terrorist activities. Two of his brothers were members of the PA security services, Hadashot news reported.

Elmaliach remains in intensive care in Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center, under sedation and breathing through a ventilator, as of Thursday. But doctors said his condition has slightly improved.

Last weekend, he was taken off an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine, known as an ECMO, which takes strain off the heart and lungs by performing some of their functions, namely removing carbon dioxide from the blood and resupplying it with oxygen, a spokesperson for the hospital said.

Egypt army kills 3 terrorists in North Sinai; 1 officer, 5 others killed by IED in raid on terrorist hideout: Spokesman
[AlAhram] Egypt's second field army killed three faceless myrmidons in North Sinai who were armed with weapons, ammunition and explosives, and destroyed four vehicles used by the terrorists, Egypt's army spokesperson Tamer El-Refaai said in a statement on Thursday.

The front man said that in a separate incident, one officer and five others were killed when an IED hit an army vehicle during a raid on a terrorist hideout.
The Times of Israel adds:
A roadside kaboom planted by Islamic gunnies in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula hit a military vehicle on Thursday, killing six people, including a senior army officer, security and hospital officials said.

They said the bomb struck a military convoy that was patrolling an area just outside the town of Bir al-Abd in northern Sinai, killing a colonel who was the town’s military commander, a second officer and four soldiers.

Three more soldiers were maimed in the attack, they said.

Bir al-Abd was the scene of the deadliest terrorist attack against civilians in Egypt’s modern history, when gunnies killed 311 worshipers in a mosque on November 24.

In a separate attack, a rocket-propelled grenade hit a police armored vehicle in central el-Arish, a coastal city in northern Sinai, killing one conscript. A firefight later erupted between the police and krazed killers, and a civilian driving in the area was caught in the crossfire and killed, said the officials. Three gunnies were killed in the shootout, they added.

US-led coalition in Iraq and Syria acknowledges more civilian deaths
[AlAhram] The US-led coalition fighting the IS group in Syria and Iraq acknowledged Thursday the deaths of 16 more civilians in air strikes, increasing the toll of civilians killed in three years to at last 817.

The coalition said in a statement that it had completed a review in November of 101 reports of potential civilian casualties, of which 92 were deemed non-credible.

The remaining nine, relating to strikes between March 20 and October 17, were considered credible and resulted in 11 civilian casualties.

The coalition also added another five civilian casualties to its count, based on previous reports of attacks it had earlier said it was not responsible for.

"To date, based on the information available, (the coalition) assesses at least 817 civilians have been unintentionally killed by Coalition strikes" since the beginning of the campaign against the Islamic State

(IS) Islamist group in August 2014, the statement said.

As of the end of November, 603 reports were still being examined.

Coalition forces have conducted 28,562 strikes against IS targets in three years, resulting in 1,799 reports of potential civilian casualties of which only 208 were deemed credible, the statement read.

According to a recent New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

survey in Iraq, 20 percent of coalition air strikes have resulted in civilian casualties, a much higher proportion than the coalition's claimed 0.36 percent.

Monitoring group Airwars insists that the number of civilian deaths acknowledged by the US-led coalition is well below the true civilian toll of the bombing campaign, estimating that almost 6,000 innocent lives have been lost.

Six children killed in an explosion in Balkh province of Afghanistan
[Khaama Press] At least six children were killed in an kaboom in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan as the local officials are saying that the blast was triggered by a roadside mine kaboom.

The incident took place in Dawlatabad district after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on a roadside went off, targeting the children aged between eight to ten years.

The district administrative chief of Dawlatabad Mohammad Karim confirmed that six children aged eight, nine, and ten years, were killed in the blast.

No individual or group has so far grabbed credit behind the incident.

Settlers attack West Bank village after Palestinians stone Israeli cars
[IsraelTimes] Locals in Burin say Yitzhar residents broke into their school and shattered the windshields of teachers' cars.

A group of settlers raided the nearby northern West Bank village of Burin on Wednesday after Paleostinian youths hurled rocks at Israeli vehicles.

Yitzhar residents broke into a school on the outskirts of the village while it was in session and shattered the windshields of three parked cars belonging to teachers, the Yesh Din rights group reported.

But settlers said they were responding after Paleostinians threw rocks at Israeli vehicles driving past the village. Among those hit was Tzvi Succot, director of the far-right Otzma Yehudit group. He filmed himself exiting his vehicle and pursuing the rioters by foot.

Soldiers arrived at the scene and and dispersed the crowd with riot-dispersal gear. An IDF spokesperson confirmed that rocks were thrown by both Israelis and Paleostinians.

One soldier sustained light injuries from a rock thrown at his head, the army said.

Footage from Paleostinian residents shows Israeli tear gas clouding the school where the clash took place.

The school’s principal told Paleostinian media that one of his students was hit by a rubber bullet fired by Israeli troops and several others suffered from tear gas inhalation.

Relations between residents of Burin and Yitzhar have long been tense. Earlier this month, dozens of settlers entered Burin and hurled rocks at people and homes, with footage appearing to show the army standing by amid festivities between the sides.

Tensions in the northern West Bank have been high since a November clash between Paleostinians and a group of hiking settlers. Then, a group of several Israeli dozen youths ‐ chaperoned by two of the fathers ‐ embarked on a tour of the northern West Bank to celebrate the bar mitzvah of Elitzur Libman. As they hiked past the village of Qusra, they said, dozens of Paleostinian residents began throwing rocks at them. One of the armed chaperones opened fire, killing 48-year-old Mahmoud Za’al Odeh.

The next week, festivities broke out between settlers and Paleostinians in the area after a group of far-right Israeli activist from the Otzma Yehudit group returned to the scene of the shootout
. One Paleostinian man was shot and critically maimed under unclear circumstances. The army did not say then if one of its soldiers had fired the shot that injured the Paleostinian.

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s late King Abdullah have been released from detention at Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton hotel, days after nearly two dozen other detainees in the kingdom’s two-month-old anti-corruption campaign were also freed.

Saudi Arabia’s attorney general approved the release of Prince Meshaal bin Abdullah and Prince Faisal bin Abdullah after they reached financial settlements with the government, a senior Saudi official with knowledge of the matter told Rooters.

The source did not elaborate on the settlements.

The attorney general had not yet reached a decision on whether to release a third brother, Prince Turki bin Abdullah, the source said.

A related member of the royal family, Princess Nouf bint Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud, tweeted photos of the two princes and exclamations of thanks on Thursday.

Saudi security forces rounded up some 200 princes, ministers and business leaders and converted the Ritz-Carlton into a luxurious prison for them in early November in what Riyadh said was a crackdown on corruption.

The move was also widely seen by analysts as helping Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman consolidate his grip on power, after he ousted his cousin as heir to the throne in the summer.

The most powerful of King Abdullah’s sons, former National Guard chief Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, was released last month after agreeing to pay the government $1 billion.

Prince Miteb had been the last member of Abdullah’s Shammar branch of the family to retain a key position in the Saudi power structure, after Prince Meshaal and Prince Turki were relieved of their posts as governors in 2015.

Saudi newspaper Okaz reported on Tuesday that 23 individuals had been released after reaching deals with the government and that more were expected to follow in the days ahead.

Others who had not reached settlements would face trial, the report said.

The Grand Turk
US missions in Turkey set to resume full visa services
[IsraelTimes] Ankara's embassy in Washington announces it will reciprocate move, following end to US suspension triggered by arrest of staff member

US consular missions in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
are set to resume full visa services following a suspension triggered by the arrest of a staff member, the American embassy in Ankara said Thursday, leading Turkey to announce it will also resume full services.

Turkey had "adhered to high level assurances" made to the United States and, as a result, the US State Department "is confident that the security posture has improved sufficiently to allow for the full resumption of visa services in Turkey," the embassy said in a statement.

It did not give a date for when this would take effect.

Shortly after the US announcement, Ankara’s embassy in Washington announced that Ottoman Turkish missions in the United States will also resume full visa services for US citizens matching the American move.

"Within the framework of the principle of reciprocity, the restrictions placed from our side on the visa regime for US citizens are being lifted simultaneously," it said in a statement.

The US decision to stop handing out visas was implemented from October and was followed by the tit-for-tat move by Turkey to stop giving Ottoman Turkish visas to Americans.

The US in November said it has resumed limited visa services, a move matched by Turkey’s missions in the US.

But the services were so limited that the first interview appointments for Turks seeking most types of US visa were only available from January 2019, causing uproar on social media.

The crisis was triggered when US consulate staffer Metin Topuz was formally charged with espionage and seeking to overthrow the Ottoman Turkish government last month, accusations the US embassy in Ankara said at the time were "wholly without merit."

US authorities then sought assurances from top Ottoman Turkish officials that no further staff members would be placed under investigation.

The US said it had won assurances from Ankara that there are "no additional local employees of our mission in Turkey under investigation."

But the Ottoman Turkish embassy statement took issue with this, saying that "Turkey is a state of law" and "no such assurances have been given regarding cases pending in the courts."

"We do not find it right to misinform the Ottoman Turkish and American publics by saying that assurances have been given," it said.

Ottoman Turkish authorities will also inform the US "in advance" if they intend to arrest any local staff member in the future.

The US statement added: "We continue to have serious concerns about the existing allegations against tossed in the calaboose
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
local employees of our mission in Turkey."

In March, a Ottoman Turkish employee at the US consulate in the southern city of Adana was also arrested on charges of supporting the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Istanbul tightens New Year security, dozens arrested ahead of attack anniversary
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
will more than double the number of coppers on duty in Istanbul to 37,000 and ban public celebrations in key districts on New Year's Eve for security reasons, a year after a gunman killed 39 people in a nightclub, officials said.

State media said police had also detained dozens of people for suspected membership of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) though the arrests were not linked to New Year security preparations.

On New Year's Eve a year ago, a man with an assault rifle rubbed out Turks and visitors from several Arab nations, India and Canada at the exclusive Reina nightclub.

A year on, 37,000 coppers and some 4,000 gendarmes who maintain security in rural areas would be on duty over New Year, Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin told news hounds on Thursday - more than double the usual daily deployment.

"Virtually all our teams will be on duty. We will take all possible measures in Istanbul so that our citizens can mark New Year happily in peace," he said.

Authorities either banned or cancelled public New Year's Eve celebrations in the central Istanbul districts of Beyoglu, Sisli and Besiktas due to security concerns, officials and media said.

Sisli municipality said it cancelled a four-day event due to start on Thursday after the local governor requested it be curtailed for security reasons. Besiktas council was refused permission to stage an event, Haberturk newspaper said.

It said security was also being tightened in Taksim square, reportedly one of the initial sites the gunman last year planned to attack before he decided to target the nightclub.

"New Year (security) measures will be at the highest level. There won't be any celebrations," Haberturk cited Beyoglu police chief Ismail Kilic as saying. "Gatherings will not be allowed."

IS grabbed credit for the nightclub shooting, one of a series of attacks believed to have been carried out by the jihadists and Kurdish Death Eaters. A trial of suspects in the Reina attack, including the gunman, began this month.

Ottoman Turkish police on Thursday detained 38 people, some of them Syrian citizens, for suspected Islamic State membership in an operation in the northwestern province of Bursa, the state-run Anadolu news agency said.

In raids across Istanbul on Wednesday, police detained six Islamic State-associated foreign nationals believed to be planning an attack, a police statement said.

Houston imam walks back sermon calling for Muslims to kill Jews
Taqqiya. I do hope someone is keeping an eye on the membership.
[IsraelTimes] A Houston imam walks back a sermon in which he called for Moslems to kill Jews, without specifically apologizing for his comments.

Imam Raed Saleh al-Rousan of Houston’s Tajweed Institute earlier this month delivered what he called an "impassioned sermon," according to a statement about the speech.

"I unequivocally affirm and uphold the dignity, sanctity and value of all human life, including ‐ of course ‐ people of the Jewish faith," al-Rousan says in the statement. "I must also state in no uncertain terms that I am absolutely and completely opposed to and disgusted by all forms of terrorism, all terrorists, and I oppose anyone who would commit, call for, or threaten violence against civilians. This is why as a person of faith and a religious leader, that I am mortified that an impassioned sermon I gave in light of President Trump’s Jerusalem declaration is being seen as a call for the very things I despise."

Al-Rousan had delivered his inflammatory speech on December 8, two days after President Donald Trump

announced the United States’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

"Judgment Day will not come until the Moslems fight the Jews. The Moslems will kill the Jews," al-Rousan said.

The imam also asserted in his speech that Jews "killed the Prophets and the Messengers of Allah." He accused Britannia of bringing Jews to Paleostine, adding "So do not tell me that Paleostine is the country of the Jewish people. No!"

in Iraq and Syria, Kurdistan Region’s Government declared on Thursday.

"3,073 Yazidi males and females of different age groups are still captivated by IS," Hussein Qa’idi, head of KRG’s Yazidi Kurds Liberation Office.

The federal government in Baghdad, according to Qa’idi, does not offer any kind of assistance in searching for or liberation of the kidnapped.

Moreover, Qa’idi blamed the difficulty of the mission on entrance of the pro-government of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces), the financial crisis in Kurdistan and the ban on international flights.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The Mistresses of Mirrored Halls – Looking At The Corrupt DOJ Side of 'Operation Trump'
[Last Refuge] The leadership of the DOJ and the FBI are intertwined in the 2016 election operation to support candidate Hillary Clinton and defeat candidate Donald Trump. However, most of the investigative discussions center around the FBI side of the equation. There’s a good reason for that.

The FBI side of the conspiracy is pretty straight forward. FBI Director James Comey, FBI Asst. Director Andrew McCabe, FBI Chief Legal Counsel James Baker, FBI Counterintelligence Head Bill Priestap, and FBI Counterintelligence Agent Peter Strzok all played a participatory role in the Trump Operation.

The 2016 FBI counterintelligence operation was surveillance on the Trump Campaign and was thinly disguised under the fraudulent auspices of a FISA warrant, sold as a defense of U.S. democracy from Russia, which permitted the wiretaps and surveillance etc.

Two DOJ people (central to the FBI) relayed and acted as facilitators between the FBI side and the DOJ side: DOJ Deputy Bruce Ohr and FBI/DOJ lawyer Lisa Page. Outlines of their collaborative efforts, and the trails they left behind, have filled the headlines recently.

On the Department of Justice side of the operation, specifically the DOJ leadership involvement, things are less clearly outlined. Again, there’s a reason for that.

The DOJ involvement surrounds legal arguments, processing of FISA applications, and use of the legal system to support the FBI with actionable legal framing (against Trump) mostly after their candidate, Hillary Clinton, was defeated.

In essence, in a bastardized manipulation of Law and Order, the FBI created disorder and the DOJ weaponized that manufactured disorder to launch a legal attack against their ideological political opposition, President-elect Donald Trump. Unlawfulness and Disorder.

However, to best understand the DOJ side, it’s helpful to look at a specific time, September and October 2016. That’s when the second FISA application was presented to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), using the information from the FBI counterintelligence operation (Steele Dossier etc.) as the basis for that application.

Trump isn't Zerobama and the IG report will reflect poorly on those people, not Trump. Of course it will be released in its full and final form for all to see and the media to bury in the want ads.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Medical records: amputee Palestinian killed in Gaza clash was shot in head
Assuming this is true, and assuming that the Israelis did it, that would be pretty good shooting.
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian medical records in the Gazoo Strip show that a man, whose two legs had been amputated, who died during a violent protest along the border with Israel earlier this month was killed by a bullet that struck him in the head.

The records, obtained by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Thursday, shed new light on a case that has become a rallying cry among Paleostinians since US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Ibrahim Abu Thurayeh was killed on December 15 in festivities that broke out along the Israeli border. A military investigation found no "moral or professional failures" by troops.

The medical records say Abu Thurayeh died of severe bleeding after a single bullet entered his head over his left eye.

The army declined to comment on the reports.

Iraq
Iraqi unions consider penalties against U.S. over Jerusalem move
It sounds like the Iraqi unions are more upset about this than the Palestinians are, and possibly a tad more stupid.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi trade unions are considering penal measures against the United States in response to the U.S. Administration’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Shafaw News quoted the head of the General Federation of Iraqi Trade Unions, Sattar Danbous Barrak, saying Thursday that the organization has decided to "take penal measures" to counter President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s decision on Jerusalem, which he signed last month.

According to Barrak, "the measures include abstention from downloading cargo from U.S. ships, and an invitation to cancel contracts with U.S. companies in Iraq, replacing them by others with friendly countries".
Getting awfully mouthy, now that ISIS has been defeated.
Barrak’s statements came during a meeting with Paleostinian ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed Aql, at the embassy.

President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and to plan for relocating the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to there, was met with an Arab and a wide-scale international rejection as a violation of U.N. resolutions on the city.

While Paleostinians claim eastern Jerusalem as their capital, and urge Israel to withdraw behind the territories it occupied in 1967, Israelis insist on the city as the unified capital of the Jewish state.

Islamic State member arrested in Baghdad: security command

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security forces arrested an Islamic State member in Baghdad, the capital’s security command said Thursday as the country continues to hunt for remnant militants cells.

The Baghdad Operations media service said in a statement, quoted by Alsumaria News, that an Islamic State member who had fled Mosul was arrested in al-Doura, south of Baghdad after an ambush was set up upon receiving intelligence information about his existence there.

Civilian killed, two tribal fighters wounded in two blasts in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A civilian was killed, while two tribal fighters were wounded in two bomb blasts in Baghdad, security sources said on Thursday.

In related news, two tribal fighters were injured as a bomb blast took place in south of the capital.

“A bomb, placed at Sayyid Abdullah village, south of Baghdad, went off,” the source said adding that the explosion targeted a vehicle with two personnel of the Tribal Mobilization Forces on board.

Barzani ready to discuss airports as Baghdad denies renewed embargo
Erbil (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s premier, Nechirvan Barzani, said Thursday his government was ready to discuss the issue of Kurdish airports control as Baghdad denied a renewal of an air embargo on the autonomous region.

Speaking in a presser following a cabinet meeting, Barzani said "we are ready to act according to the constitution in relation to airports and border crossings".

He reiterated his government’s readiness to discuss all pending issues with Baghdad "with utmost transparency".

Barzani’s announcement came as Alsumaria News quoted Salem al-Sudani, a spokesperson of the Iraqi transport ministry, as denying reports that Baghdad extended a flight embargo on Kurdistan airports by two months

"Airspaces at the two airports are closed until a further notice", Sudani said, referring to Kurdistan’s Erbil and Sulaimaniya airports.

Sudani said that the decision of whether to reopen the airspaces or not is "up to the government".

Baghdad had imposed a flight embargo on Kurdish airports following a referendum the region held in September, in which more than 70 percent voted for independence from Iraq, a step Baghdad deemed unconstitutional.

Following the poll, Baghdad responded with taking control over Kurdistan’s border crossings an areas where illusory sovereignty is disputed by both governments.

Turkey searches for suspect after blast near police station

The blast occurred at 7:10 p.m. on a street close to the cop shoppe in the city’s Seyhan district. It shattered nearby windows and was heard in other parts of the city, the private Dogan news agency reports.

Police believe the blast was caused by a "sound bomb" designed to make a loud noise but not cause any casualties, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported. Police teams were investigating the site and a search was launched for a suspect.

"We believe it was a home-made bomb, like a sound bomb," Anadolu quoted Adana Police Chief Selami Yildiz as saying. "We are continuing our inspections."

The Dogan news agency said the bomb was placed beneath an electrical pole by a person wearing a mask.

Erdogan Holds Out Olive Branch to Germany, EU
[AnNahar] President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
has expressed hope for a better relationship with Germany and the EU after a fractious 2017, saying Ankara needs to reduce its enemies and increase its friends, in an interview published Thursday.

The past year has seen The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
's long-running bid to join the EU grind to a virtual halt and a crisis in relations with Germany over the crackdown that followed the failed July 15, 2016 coup.

"Of course, we want to have good relations with the EU and with EU countries," Erdogan told Ottoman Turkish journalists on his presidential plane while on a visit to Africa.

"I always say this. We must reduce the number of enemies and increase the number of friends," he said, in comments published in Ottoman Turkish newspapers including the Hurriyet daily.

He said there was "no reason" why he should not make trips to Germany and the Netherlands, two key EU members with whom Ankara had intense rows as they prepared for general elections in 2017.

Erdogan applauded Germany's leadership for "being on the same line" as Ankara by strongly condemning U.S. President's Donald Trump

's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"All this is very gratifying," Erdogan said.

Berlin was particularly incensed by the holding of several German nationals in a crackdown after the coup bid, although tensions have eased slightly following several releases in recent months.

Most recently, German pilgrim David Britsch and German journalist Mesale Tolu were set free by Turkey in developments welcomed by Berlin.

However the correspondent of the Die Welt daily newspaper, Deniz Yucel, a German-Ottoman Turkish dual national who was tossed in the calaboose

in February, remains behind bars and not even a date for his trial has been set.

Erdogan indicated that the EU's support for his stance over Jerusalem, a cause he rapidly championed following Trump's bitterly-contested move, could be helpful in creating better relations.

He said he may visit La Belle France, without giving a time. "They (Gay Paree) did not leave us by ourselves on this issue (Jerusalem)," he said.

Erdogan said a visit may also be on the cards to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis, who was also strongly supportive of his stance.
