Clapper predicts 'other shoes to drop' in Mueller probe
[Politico] Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper predicted Sunday that there are "other shoes to drop" in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe of Russian election meddling, including potential ties to the Kremlin by those seeking to sway the election.

Clapper said Friday's indictment of 13 Russian nationals and three foreign entities, which includes charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States and aggravated identity theft, served to validate findings by the intelligence community on Russian election interference.

But the former intelligence chief, who served under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, predicted that Mueller's team had yet to fully reveal its findings.

"I do think there are other shoes to drop here besides this indictment," Clapper told Dana Bash on CNN's "State of the Union."

Pressed on what additional findings Mueller's team of federal prosecutors might unearth, Clapper suggested that Americans have yet to see the full extent of the involvement of the Russian government in efforts to undermine the U.S. electoral process.

Five women killed in shooting outside Russian church. "Allahu Akbar"
[SkyNews] Five women have been killed after a gunman opened fire on people leaving a church service in Russia's Dagestan region.

Russian news agency Tass reported that the gunman was shot dead by police after killing four worshippers and wounding four others in an attack in the town of Kizlyar.

The gunman was armed with a hunting rifle and charged towards the church shouting "Allahu Akbar", the Arabic phrase meaning "God is Great", according to Father Pavel, the priest who had delivered the service.

"Four people were killed. The shooter was shot dead. Two police officers and a woman were wounded," Kizlyar mayor Alexander Shuvalov told Tass.

The gunman targeted worshippers at a Russian Orthodox church in the mainly Muslim region, although no motive has been established yet.
"But DEFINITELY not terrorism"
According to Interfax, the shooter has been identified as a local man in his early 20s.

Dagestan is a predominantly Muslim region of the Caucasus, located between the Black and Caspian seas.

It has been the scene of an Islamist insurgency following separatist wars in neighbouring Chechnya.

Pentagon's New Deploy-or-Out Policy Could Separate Up to 286K
[Mil.com] The Pentagon's new "deploy-or-out" policy could result in the separation from military service of possibly 286,000 personnel who are currently deemed medically unfit for overseas duty.

"This new policy is a 12-month deploy or be removed policy," Robert Wilkie, the undersecretary of defense for Personnel and Readiness, told the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel Wednesday.

Wilkie said there would be exceptions for pregnancies and the services would also be able to retain wounded troops who are cleared by medical boards.

"On any given day, about 13 to 14 percent of the force is medically unable to deploy -- that comes out to be around 286,000 service members," Wilkie said.

The new policy grew out of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis' directive last summer to the services to take steps to improve the "lethality" of the force in overseas operations. Mattis' guidance said the services' actions should be "designed to ensure our military is ready to fight today and in the future."

The solution the services came up with required service members to be deployable within 12 months or be forced out of the military.

In justifying the major policy initiative, Wilkie said that "The situation we face today is really unlike anything we have faced -- certainly in the post-World War II era. We have to ensure, given the climate this country faces, that everyone who signs up can be deployed anywhere in the world."

In a department-wide memo released Thursday on "Retention Policy for Non-Deployable Service Members," Wilkie said he would also be seeking to establish "standardized criteria for retaining non-deployable service members."

#1  ...This has been a semi-secret for some years now, in that the world at large hasn't been aware of the problem, but the poor SOBs who have to keep going back sure as hell have known about it. I suspect too that there is going to be a thorough combing of emergency deployment plans so that there is NO question that if you are a single parent, there better be someone to take care of your child.

#2  Wilkie said there would be exceptions for pregnancies and the services would also be able to retain wounded troops who are cleared by medical boards.

Female privilege? Someone has got to take their place in the deployment. WAC era they were discharged. Then the brass said make it work. Then there was a classified Army IG report after Desert Storm on the number of females removed from theater when they turned up pregnant. Then the blow up when a theater commander said something along the lines of court martial (given that for all of military history, males who had inflicted wounds or injuries to avoid combat or danger where roughly treated). They insist on 'abortion on demand', so it's choice to make oneself non-deployable.

The Atlantic - Mueller's Message to America
[The Atlantic] The clear goal of the special counsel is to speak to the American public about the seriousness of Russian interference.

With yet another blockbuster indictment (why is it always on a Friday afternoon?), Special Counsel Robert Mueller has, once again, upended Washington. And this time, it is possible that his efforts may have a wider effect outside the Beltway.

For those following the matter, there has been little doubt that Russian citizens attempted to interfere with the American presidential election. The American intelligence agencies publicized that conclusion more than a year ago in a report issued in January 2017, and it has stood by the analysis whenever it has been questioned. But some in the country have doubted the assertion‐asking for evidence of interference that was not forthcoming.

Now the evidence has been laid out in painful detail by the special counsel. If any significant fraction of what is alleged in the latest indictment is true (and we should, of course, remind ourselves that an indictment is just an allegation‐not proof), then this tale is a stunning condemnation of Russian activity. A Russian organization with hundreds of employees and a budget of millions of dollars is said to have systematically engaged in an effort (code named "Project Lakhta") to undermine the integrity of the election and, perhaps more importantly, to have attempted to influence the election to benefit then-candidate Donald Trump. Among the allegations, the Russians:
- Conducted political intelligence-gathering activities in the United States;

- Hid their activities by setting up virtual networks in America that masked their extra-American communications;

- Influenced the American election by using false personas to organize rallies for Trump, criticizing Muslims and spreading allegations of voter fraud by candidate Clinton;

- Stole American identities to create controlled accounts; and

- Destroyed evidence of their activities.
These proofs, is the author referring to the Russians, or the Clinton campaign? I am totally confused.
The details of these activities are painfully explicit; the indictment cites dates, times, places, messages, posts, and specific rallies. In short, if the facts prove out, there can be absolutely no doubt‐none whatsoever‐that Russian actors engaged in a multi-year, multi-million-dollar campaign of influence.

From this, it seems that two things are clear. First, while the "official" purpose of this indictment is to criminally prosecute violations of American law, the indictment also has a second purpose‐to inform the American public and their representatives. Let’s be blunt‐none of the Russians who were indicted will ever, ever, see the inside of an American courtroom. Russia won’t extradite them and we won’t, realistically, expect them to do so. The individuals may not have as much freedom to travel (say, to the French Riviera) for fear of arrest, but otherwise the effect on them will be negligible.

Given that reality, this indictment (which prosecutors sometimes call a "speaking indictment") is so detailed precisely because the evidence will never be presented in a court. It is designed to give as full an accounting of the known facts as the prosecutors reasonably can. Beyond prosecution, the clear goal here is to speak to the American public‐and if this message isn’t sufficient, then no message can possibly sway the body politic.

Second, all that having been said, the indictment is equally notable for what it does not say as it is for what it does say. One will scour the indictment in vain for any allegation that the Russian activity was directed by Russian government officials. To be sure, it is highly dubious that such a campaign would be run by a Russian enterprise without the knowledge and tacit (if not explicit) acquiescence of the Russian government. And some of the indicted defendants are said to be close to Putin. In a closed, authoritarian society like Russia, the idea of a rogue operation is simply not credible. The one gap that can, and likely will, be filled in the future is the official Russian side of the ledger‐what did Putin and the FSB know and do?

The indictment is also conspicuous for failing to allege any act of collusion between the Russian actors and any Americans at all. There are no identified American co-conspirators and there certainly is no allegation that the Russians acted with the knowledge of (much less the approval of) any individuals in the Trump campaign. As far as the indictment is concerned, the Russian activity was initiated by the Russians for their own strategic benefit, and candidate Trump may only have been an incidental beneficiary of their activity.

Again, that seems an unlikely proposition. But in fairness to President Trump, we need to acknowledge that, thus far, the Mueller team has alleged no active collusion. For the Trump team, that will be the takeaway from today’s indictment.

For the rest of America, the takeaway should be much grimmer: The threat to the integrity of our elections is real. The main question that Mueller asks is not whether the Russians are guilty, but what America is going to do about it? If, faced with this reality, we continue to do nothing, then the blame for the next failure will be on us.
Thank you Paul, I was in such a quandary over what I should think.
Ben Franklin, when asked what sort of government the Founders created, is reported to have said "a Republic, if you can keep it." Americans must now to decide if we want to keep ours.

#3  So they trolled a few websites and organized a rally or two while pretending not to be Russians. Big fucking deal. It's not like they bombed our capitol and provided arms to a rebel uprising. It's not like they did anything that our own government hasn't done in other countries. And where were the countermeasures, Baraq? Huh? Why doesn't Mueller file an indictment against somebody who won't laugh at him from a foreign country where there is zero chance they will ever be extradited? Upended Washington, did he? We're paying him for this?
If this is the best he can do he needs to pack it up and go home.

#7  Influenced the American election by using false personas to organize rallies for Trump, criticizing Muslims and spreading allegations of voter fraud by candidate Clinton

1. Mueller couldn't find any Trump/Russian collusion.
2. Mueller's still trying to clean the country of islamaphobia as he did in the FBI.
3. They had to justify the millions spent and more than a year's effort.
4. They are still trying to exonerate Hillary of wrongdoing. Keeping the options open for a 2020 Hillary run?
5. Provided a really good example of a "Red Herring."

Maxine Waters Attended Nation Of Islam Convention Where Farrakhan Defended Suicide Bombers
[Daily Caller] Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters attended a Nation of Islam convention where the hate group's leader, Louis Farrakhan, defended Palestinian suicide bombers. The convention, which took place in California in 2002, is just the latest tie to emerge between Democrats and the Nation of Islam, a black nationalist group known for being viciously anti-Semitic.

"We have Maxine Waters here," Farrakhan told the convention audience, gesturing to the seats behind him, "our great congresswoman from this area." The audience cheered Waters' name.

Later in his speech, Farrakhan excused Palestinian suicide bombers and defended Iran for arming Palestinian terrorists.

Farrakhan criticized the United States for providing Israel with planes and other weapons, which he indicated was to blame for Palestinian suicide bombers.

"The Palestinians have nothing to defend themselves with, so they're so exhausted and exasperated, think about that, strapping bombs to themselves, making themselves a weapon," Farrakhan said

Adam Rippon will work for NBC as a correspondent for remainder of 2018 Winter Olympics
Boycott NBC's Olympics coverage
U.S. figure skater Adam Rippon, the openly gay Olympic team bronze medalist who has become one of the best-known names at these Games, has been hired by NBC to work as a correspondent during the remainder of the Olympics, NBC spokesman Greg Hughes told USA TODAY Sports Sunday evening.

Rippon, 28, will work for the network on a variety of platforms, including television, digital and social media, Hughes said.

Always outspoken, Rippon made news in mid-January when he criticized Vice President Pence in a story in USA TODAY. When Pence fired back little more than an hour after the story appeared online, Rippon's profile was on the rise.

The Mueller Dogs Bark, but the Caravan Moves On
[American Thinker] Shortly after Rod Rosenstein announced the latest series of indictments against Russians largely for posts on social media, the stock market rose and hit its highest weekly gain since 2013. And for good reason ‐ the indictments are idiotic. They would never have been issued by a prosecutor, only a special counsel looking as if he's doing something as his case against his big catch ‐ General Michael Flynn ‐ seems to become less and less certain to lead to conviction.

Russia Launches ‘Information' War, U.S. Responds with Lawsuit and Self-Destruction
[NationalReview] Mueller’s indictment is an ineffectual response to a provocation by Russia.

The Russians are engaged in "information warfare" against the United States. That was the big soundbite at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s press conference Friday afternoon, announcing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s election-meddling indictment against 13 Russians and three Russian businesses.

That is certainly a fair assessment of what the indictment alleges. The account is disturbing, but its form leaves many of us underwhelmed. Our government says Russia is levying war. It is attacking a foundational institution ‐ the electoral system of our democratic society and, more basically, our society’s cohesion as such. Our response should not be, nor appear to be, the filing of a lawsuit. That is provocatively weak.

The Russia probe has been a counterintelligence investigation, as it should be. That is why I’ve complained from the first that it was inappropriate to put a prosecutor in charge of it. This contention is reiterated in my weekend column. The main thrust of this complaint has been that a prosecutor should not be assigned unless there is first strong evidence of a crime. But that is not the half of it.

A government lawyer is a hammer who sees every problem as the nail of a lawsuit. As we saw in the Clinton and Obama years (and will tend to see in transnational-progressive governments that prize legal processes over the pursuit of national interests by the most effective means available), administrations dominated by government lawyers find even belligerent provocations by foreign power to be fit for judicial resolution.

To the contrary, we use counterintelligence rather than criminal investigation to thwart foreign adversaries because prosecution is a woefully inadequate response. The point of counterintelligence is to gather information so we can stop our enemies, through meaningful retaliation and discouragement. Generally, that means diplomatic, economic, intelligence, and, in extreme cases, military means. It could mean deploying our own cyber capabilities. The idea is not to invade every rogue nation. It is to respond to provocations in a manner that hurts our rivals ‐ conveying that the prohibitive cost we will exact makes attacking us against their interests.

That cannot be accomplished by a mere indictment on which no one will be tried.

The inspector general report revealed "serious derelictions" by Shulkin and his staffers leading to "poor judgment and/or misconduct."

The secretary’s top aide was discovered to have doctored emails to make it appear as though Shulkin was receiving "special recognition" at the summit in order to justify his wife’s travel to Denmark on the taxpayer’s dime, amounting to more than $4,000.

Steelworkers union praises White House's steel import study
[Washington Examiner] United Steelworkers International on Friday offered rare praise for the Trump administration on Friday, when it said it supports the Commerce Department's Friday recommendation for tariffs or quotas on steel imports.

"It is absolutely clear from today’s release of the Section 232 Aluminum and Steel Reports that Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has a comprehensive understanding of the unrelenting attacks and challenges that these industries critical to our nation’s security are facing from unfairly traded imports," USW President Leo Gerard said.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley says Democrats, media creating more 'chaos' than Russians
[Washington Examiner] A spokesman for the White House accused Democrats and the media for creating more "chaos" than the Russians.

White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley made the comment on Fox News on Saturday, one day after special counsel Robert Mueller revealed the indictments of 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities as part of his team's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"There are two groups that have created chaos more than the Russians," Hogan said. "And that’s the Democrats and the mainstream media who continued to push this lie on the American people for more than a year, and quite frankly, Americans should be outraged by that."

His comments were in reference to the ongoing efforts of the Mueller inquiry to examine whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Over the past year, the media has closely reported every development in the Mueller investigation, and several Democrats have publicly theorized that President Trump is hiding criminal behavior.

This whole party is the scum of the earth and has been infected with an in-cureable disease designed by the left - which is the soviet communist of old.

Who needs the Russians as an enemy when you have an enemy running your own government that calls themselves democratic when they are despotic, tyrannical, and present nothing but this for the future ?

[CNN] Mueller tells a compelling story of Russian intrigue that was designed to elect Trump

Opens to Video narrated by British correspondent for CNN Moscow bureau.

[CNN] As both a prosecutor and defense attorney, I have written and reviewed many indictments. Though often brimming with legalese, they are designed by prosecutors to tell a compelling and detailed crime story. The indictment announced Friday in the Mueller investigation told just such a story -- of Russian attempts to sabotage the American presidential election.

If the allegations of the indictment prove true, it seems probable that the Russians were successful in their multimillion-dollar effort to influence the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States. Of course the answer to this complex question will never be definitively known. Polling cannot tell us whether voters might have chosen differently if the Russian influence operation hadn't happened.

What is known, however, is that the election was close and voter shifts in just a few significant states could have changed the Electoral College vote count in a presidential election in which Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.

Facebook VP: "The Majority Of Russian Ad Spend Happened AFTER The Election"
https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2017/10/hard-questions-russian-ads-delivered-to-congress/

"many of these ads did not violate our content policies. That means that for most of them, if they had been run by authentic individuals, anywhere, they could have remained on the platform."

Shouldn’t you stop foreigners from meddling in US social issues?
The right to speak out on global issues that cross borders is an important principle. Organizations such as UNICEF, Oxfam or religious organizations depend on the ability to communicate — and advertise — their views in a wide range of countries. While we may not always agree with the positions of those who would speak on issues here, we believe in their right to do so — just as we believe in the right of Americans to express opinions on issues in other countries.

- the ads were non-political in nature, and didn't feature or favour a political candidate
- 56% of the ads were run AFTER the 2016 US federal election
- 25% of the ads were never displayed to anyone due to Facebook's algorithms not finding them relevant to trending interests
- only 25% of the ads were geographically-targeted
- Facebook is not sure that the ads were part of an organized campaign
- Facebook is not sure that the accounts the ads were purchased with are associated with each other
- Facebook is not certain that the ads were purchased by Russians
- many of the ads were not purchased using Russia's currency
- huge numbers of actual political ads are bought and run on Facebook from all countries around the world, and that is normal and OK
- the "overwhelming majority" of ad-space purchases from Russia by Russians are normal and not suspicious in any way

So, after a year of investigations and debunked conspiracy / false claim after debunked conspiracy / false claim, the strongest argument for alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US federal election is $100K of non-political or partisan Facebook ads - more than half of which ran after the election, and a quarter of which were never ran at all. That's telling.

The Russians also supported Sanders in the primary, because they wanted the socialist to win. And he might have, except for the duplicity of Hillary and the DNC.

Once Trump and Hillary won the primary, the Russians thought (like most everyone) that Hillary would win the general, so they switched to fomenting chaos, as usual.

Clarence Thomas: I Am ‘Worn Down' From Victimhood Culture
[Free Beacon] Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas participated in a rare onstage interview at the Library of Congress on Thursday, where he talked about being "worn down" from the victimhood culture in today's society.

The moderator said that Thomas, the second African-American Supreme Court Justice, grew up without water or electricity and that his house burned down when he was seven years old, forcing him and his younger brother to go live with their maternal grandparents in Savannah, Ga.

"At some point, we’re going to be fatigued with everybody being the victim," Thomas said before talking about his grandfather.

Thomas called his grandfather the "single greatest human being" and role model that he has ever met.

"With nine months of education, but he never saw himself as a victim. He used to say that he was a motherless child. He never knew his father. His mother died when he was seven or eight years old," Thomas said. "Of course they didn't have birth certificates then, so he never knew quite how old he was."

He went on to talk about how his grandfather never complained about his hardships growing up and that he would always have a saying for his grandkids when they tried to complain.

Virtue Signaling LeBron James Responds to 'Shut Up and Dribble' Comment (Video)
[Sports Illustrated] LeBron James and Kevin Durant have both responded to comments made by Fox News' Laura Ingraham that were critical of the two for what they said about Donald Trump in a video with ESPN's Cari Champion for the UNINTERRUPTED.

After James said Trump "really don't give a f--- about the people," Ingraham said James and Durant should "shut up and dribble" instead of discussing politics.

When asked about the comments Saturday during All-Star media availability, James said he laughed at first when he initially heard of the comments and that Ingraham's reaction proves what he has been saying about societal issues is correct. He added that he means "too much to society" and the youth to not use his platform in ways like this.

In an interview with Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, Durant called Ingraham's comments "racist" and "ignorant."

"It didn’t hit me," Durant told Amick about his initial reaction to Ingraham's comments. "Ignorance is something I try to ignore. That was definitely an ignorant comment. I do play basketball, but I am a civilian and I am a citizen of the United States, so my voice is just as loud as hers, I think ‐ or even louder."

Durant also told Amick that he's aware that if people like him and James speak up about their opinions on certain issues, Trump's election has "made it cool for people to kind of speak their truth and kind of show what they're really about" and "of course they're going to say ignorant things like that."

James had previously posted a picture on Instagram with the caption "#wewillnotshutupanddribble."

Government
Jared Kushner Reported to be a Prolific Reader of Intelligence Traffic
[The Hill] President Trump's son-in-law and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner has reportedly requested more intelligence information than almost every other White House official.

The Washington Post reports that Kushner, whose portfolio encompasses issues ranging from the Middle East peace process to modernizing the federal government’s use of technology, has put in more requests for U.S. intelligence information than any White House staffer not working for the National Security Council.

Kushner holds a Top Secret/sensitive compartmented information (SCI) security clearance, the highest level, which allows him to review some of the nation’s most closely-guarded secrets and allows him access to the presidential daily briefing, according to the Post.

He is one of reportedly dozens of White House officials who have been operating with temporary clearances during Trump’s first year in office, and his clearance could be in jeopardy following chief of staff John Kelly’s changes to the clearance process, the Post said.

In a memo released Friday, Kelly outlined a series of changes to the clearance process amid the controversy surrounding former staff secretary Rob Porter, who resigned over domestic abuse allegations.

"The American people deserve a White House staff that meets the highest standards and that has been carefully vetted‐especially those who work closely with the president or handle sensitive national security information," Kelly wrote in the memo. "We should ‐ and in the future must ‐ do better."

The changes include calling on the FBI to specifically brief the White House counsel on any potential concerns flagged in a background check, aiming for the FBI to bring any problematic findings to the White House within two days of discovery, limiting new interim clearances to a maximum of 270 days and cutting off certain clearances for employees whose clearance investigations have been pending since before June 1, 2017.

You Need To Hear These FAA Tapes From That Oregon UFO Incident That Sent F-15s Scrambling
Last November, The War Zone posted an exclusive story detailing a bizarre incident involving an unidentified aircraft that transited the skies of the Pacific Northwest in the early evening of October 25th, 2017. What started as a radar target moving at very high speed over Northern California turned into a series of eyewitness accounts made by nearby airline pilots traveling northward over Oregon. Even F-15 fighters were launched to intercept the mysterious intruder that quickly became invisible to radar.

Now, through the Freedom of Information Act, we present what could be one of the most insightful instances of official documentation surrounding such an encounter that had already been confirmed to have occurred by both the FAA and the USAF. These materials include fascinating audio recordings of radio transmissions and phone calls made as the incident was unfolding, as well as pilot interviews, and conversations between FAA officials made in the aftermath of the highly peculiar incident.

#1  I've been thinking about the concept of UFOs lately. Without FTL and more they are pretty much forever a non-starter on pure physics.
HOWEVER..
There is a possible way to have craft from elsewhere. It's been in lots of book and TV plots, a few movies and many Physics shows on PBS. Just not with UFOs.
Craft from alternate realities are much more feasible then craft from far distances. To top it of quantum science kind of requires various types of alternate realities when you run the math.

Just something to think about in the back of your mind. Maybe and Maybe Not but a hell of a lot more likely than something from across the galaxy.

Oh and if you did have a device to skip across realities a space or airborne one would be much less likely to embed itself in a block of granite or something awful like that.

...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
has announced it will host a card-playing national competition for the first time, in a move that has officially legalised the activity that was previously banned under religious pretexts.

Turki al-Sheikh, the kingdom's General Sports Authority's chairman, announced the competition on Thursday.

According to the statement, the winners of the first four places would receive a combined prize of more than one million Saudi riyals ($270,000).
People in the country took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the upcoming tournament, which will take place between April 4 and 8, 2018, under the supervision of the Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports (SAFEIS).

While some welcomed the move, others criticised it, saying it was "absurd" and considered it a form of gambling.

Translation: "This is what we have come to, legalising a game that is unlawful in religion even without prize, yet we have legalised it while giving away prizes. God forgive us."

Roadside bomb seriously injures two defense volunteers
[Bangkok Post] Two defense volunteers were badly injured by a roadside bomb explosion in Yala province on Thursday morning, while gunmen attacked a walled checkpoint manned by volunteers in Yi-ngo district of neighboring Narathiwat overnight.

In Yala, a bomb detonated on a road in Muang district as six defense volunteers riding motorcycles on patrol were passing. The squad was guarding school teachers and students. Two of the volunteers were hurt. Another defense volunteer and three students suffered temporary deafness.

Security forces said the improvised explosive device was fastened to the base of a roadside tree on a road leading to a school. It weighed 3-5 kilograms and was packed with chopped steel rods as shrapnel.

In Narathiwat, about five people opened fire with assault rifles on a defense volunteers' base in tambon Ta Poyoh late Wednesday night. The assailants were divided in two groups. Two of them fired at the front of the base from a motorcycle, and others attacked at the rear. Sixteen volunteers there returned fire and the attackers soon left. No injuries were reported

Jordan foils militant pipeline smuggling plot: Army
[AlAhram] Jordan's army said Saturday it has foiled a plot to smuggle arms, drugs and "terrorists" through a disused oil pipeline along its border with Syria.

"The Jordanian armed forces were able... to thwart a plan to smuggle weapons, drugs and terrorists" through the pipeline, an official in the general command said in a statement.

"A group of snuffies and narcos" had used a house near the Jordan-Syria border and the disused Trans-Arabian Pipeline (Tapline) to "dig and prepare a series of tunnels for use in smuggling operations and to carry out terrorist attacks", the official said.

Authorities have ordered the destruction of the tunnels and instructed army engineering units to unearth the pipeline to prevent other "smugglers and terrorists" from using it.

Tapline used to transport Saudi oil through Jordan, Syria's Golan Heights -- parts of which have been occupied by Israel since 1967 -- onto Leb and the Mediterranean.

The 1,200-kilometre (750-mile) pipeline was built in 1950 and links the Saudi oilfield of Abqaiq to the Mediterranean terminal of Zahrani, 40 kilometres (25 miles) south of Beirut.

Oil transport through Tapline to Leb stopped in 1981 because of the Lebanese civil war.

Afghanistan
Taliban cannot win in the battlefield, says Hekmatyar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The leader of Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
says the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
group cannot win in the battlefield as he insisted on reconciliation process as the only way forward to put an end to ongoing violence.

Hekmatyar made the remarks during a gathering to mark the 29th year of the withdrawal of the Soviet forces from the country.

He called on the Taliban group to join grinding of the peace processor and said "Talibs should adopt the same approach as adopted by the Hezb-e-Islami."

This comes as the Taliban group has so far not shown any interest or readiness to participate in peace talks with the Afghan government.

The group however published an open letter addressing the American nation and Congress in which the Taliban showed readiness for the dialogue to end the violence.

Taliban called on the American nation and Congress to put pressures on American military and end the so-called occupation of Afghanistan.

In the meantime, Hekmatyar insisted on timely, free, fair and transparent elections to end the ongoing crisis and issues in the country.

Hekmatyar called on all Afghans to participate in the upcoming elections and urged the all parties involved in organizing the elections including the international community to pave the way for the participation of all political parties to monitor the elections process.

Nigeria: 18 Killed in Borno Suicide Bomb Attacks
[All Africa] At least 18 persons were killed and 22 others injured as three jacket wallahs staged attacked a Borno community Friday night, police said.

The suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
suicide bombers attacked Kasuwan Kifi village in Konduga local government area of the state.

Konduga is about 25km southeast of Maiduguri, the Borno capital.

In Kasuwan Kifi, there is a thriving night market where residents sell fried fish and food ingredients. The attackers infiltrated the market and detonated themselves there.

Borno Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, who confirmed the incident, said the attack occurred despite "proactive" measures taken by the police to decongest the market.

"There were many people there frying bean cake (kose/akara), yams and other consumables," said the CP.

"There were also young men playing snookers there. The bombers detonated explosives at about 8pm yesterday (Friday night), killing themselves and 18 others. Twenty others were also injured," Mr. Chukwu disclosed.

Mr. Chukwu said the police explosive ordinance department was quickly deployed to the scene.

"Those injured have been evacuated and rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment," he said.

Turkey is fighting terrorism, not waging war in Syria: Turkish PM
[ALMASDARNEWS] Ankara is not fighting a war in Syria but is fighting against terrorism, Ottoman Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Sunday.

"We are not conducting a war against any country. There is not a war in Syria, as we speak. In Syria, it’s just that there is a fight against terrorism currently. And this is not a fight which is conducted by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
only. There are 62 coalition member countries who are conducting this, including Russia, Iran, and Turkey. We are a part of NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
, and we are within the coalition, and we provide air support to the coalition. And in NATO, through our NATO bases we help out with the operations," Yildirim said during the Munich Security Conference.

Terrorists have been using weapons from the United States and Russia, which were either provided directly or which they obtained through illegitimate means, Yildirim continued.

Ankara’s actions in Syria are in compliance with the international law and treaties, the Ottoman Turkish prime minister pointed out.

Turkey launched Operation "Olive Branch" in the northern Syrian Kurdish-held district of Afrin on January 20. Ankara has said its offensive is aimed at clearing the Ottoman Turkish border with Syria from terrorists. Turkey considers the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Democratic Union Party (PYD) to be linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), listed as a terrorist organization by Ankara.

Damascus has expressed its opposition to the Ottoman Turkish operation in Afrin, saying that such actions violated Syrian illusory sovereignty.

and radicalizing Kenyan youths has been charged with 10 counts of terrorism.

Guyo Gorsa allegedly committed the offense on or before January 13 at Madrassa Toba within Marsabit town.

Police 'encounters' indicate failure of criminal justice system: A.D. Khowaja
[DAWN] Sindh Inspector General (IG) of Police A.D. Khowaja on Saturday said that police 'encounters' indicate a failure of the criminal justice system as a whole and not of police.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) titled Effective and Accountable Policing, the IG opined that it was ’extremely difficult’ to strike a balance between effective policing, due process and people’s expectations.

Citing three recent high-profile cases namely Naqeebullah Mehsud, Intizar Ahmed and Maqsood ‐ all of whom were killed in police shootouts ‐ the IG admitted shortcomings on the part of police but also emphasised that this was perhaps the first time that police has offered itself for accountability before the judiciary and society.

Referring to civil society’s petitions through which he was granted ’administrative autonomy’ over provincial police by the Supreme Court, Khowaja explained that transfers and postings were not the only jobs of the IG office and that his role also demands strategic planning.

Rape-accused Tariq Ramadan’s lawyers request release, claim health reasons
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Rape-accused Tariq Ramadan's lawyers have claimed that the Swiss Islamist scholar was suffering from multiple sclerosis and have therefore requested his release under bail.

But an appeals court in Gay Paree which was examining his appeal against his detention on remand ordered an independent medical report on his health situation.

The court refused as well to issue him a special visit permit, according to French outlets quoting his lawyers, outside what the law grants him with in regards to his visit rights.

His lawyers added that Ramadan was carried by an ambulance to court on Thursday and has postponed its decision until Feb. 22.

Ramadan’s lawyers claim that his health situation is not in line with his detention and that they are requesting his release and that further legal investigation into their client should continue while he is out on bail.

"His state of health worsens, especially since the judges refused yesterday to issue a visit permit to his wife and children," a source close to Ramadan and his family said on Saturday. That same source confirmed that Ramadan was hospitalized.

French authorities say Ramadan is being investigated for raping two women and could be held in long-term custody while the probe continues.

Ramadan, who travels frequently and has written numerous books on Islam and the integration of Moslems in Europe, is being investigated by French authorities because the rapes took place in Gay Paree and Lyon, according to the case documents.

Ramadan is a grandson of Hasan al-Banna, the founder of the Moslem Brüderbund, an organization listed terrorist in some countries.

Trump visits mass school shooting survivors while FBI admits mishandling tips about shooter
[DAWN] United States (US) President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on Friday visited a Florida hospital to offer comfort to those that were maimed in a mass school shooting after the FBI admitted it mishandled a tip about the troubled teen behind the massacre that left 17 dead.

The arrival of Trump and his wife Melania came at the end of a difficult day for the families of those killed in Wednesday's rampage at a high school in Parkland, Florida, who learned that the carnage could perhaps have been averted.

The FBI, the top US law enforcement agency, admitted it had received a chilling warning in January from a tipster who said the 19-year-old gunman, Nikolas Cruz, could be planning a mass shooting, but that agents had failed to follow up.

SC regrets govt’s talks with Tehreek-i-Labbaik to end sit-in
[DAWN] The Supreme Court has said that negotiations like the ones the government held with leaders of the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Ya Rasoolullah (TLY) to end its 20-day sit-in at the Faizabad Interchange encourage protesters to try to take over the capital and paralyse state functions in a bid to pressurise the government for the acceptance of their demands.

The observation came during the hearing by a two-judge SC bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam of a suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
case about the use of abusive language by the TLYR leaders in their speeches during the sit-in.

When court deplored the absence of preventive measures to deal with Faizabad-like situations in future, Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf informed it that a draft Anti-Riot Protection Bill 2018, aimed at dealing with such situations in future, was expected to be taken up by the federal cabinet at its next meeting on Tuesday.

The AG conceded that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code was not enough to prevent such circumstances.

The apex court expressed dissatisfaction over the reports submitted by the Inter-Services Intelligence

London’s ‘Modest’ Fashion Show Celebrates Sharia-Compliant Clothing Weeks After Women Burn Hijabs in Iran
[Breitbart] London Modest Fashion Week will "celebrate" Britannia’s growing sharia-compliant fashion industry ‐ less than two weeks after women living under Islamic fundamentalist regimes risked imprisonment when they burnt their hijabs on No Hijab Day.

Described as an "exciting addition to the London fashion calendar" and "a celebration of style and global cultures", London Modest Fashion Week will showcase "modest style" lines on the catwalk this weekend.

The show will also put on a sharia legal clinic and zakat (religious tax) hub at the Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square, venue.

Organised by the Islamic clothing curator Haute Elan, the fashion website’s founder Romanna Bint-Abubaker said in 2017: "The fastest growing global consumer is at the moment the Moslem market.

"One in three people by 2030 will be a Moslem in the world ‐ that’s a huge population."

Last year’s inaugural show was sponsored by the makeup brand Illamasqua which promised would "never knowingly sell" their products to supporters of U.S. President Donald J. Trump. This year, it is sponsored by the major American haircare brand TRESammé.

Breitbart London revealed that the British government was promoting the "liberation" of the Islamic veil by encouraging Foreign and Commonwealth Office staff to wear the garment, issuing free hijabs on World Hijab Day (February 1st).

Last week, the government came under fire over hijabs in British culture again, after the former head of the schools’ watchdog Ofsted criticised the Department of Education for being too politically correct to support headteachers attempting to ban Islamic hijabs for underaged girls.

Israeli Air Force Strikes Six Gaza Targets Following Border Attack
[JPOST] The Israeli Air Force (IAF) struck six Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, targets in the Gazoo Strip on Saturday evening in response to the detonation of an bomb on the Gazoo border earlier in the day that maimed four IDF soldiers, two severely.

Targets included a Hamas-built offensive terror tunnel from the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gazoo which was dug towards Israeli territory.

Another target stuck included a Hamas military compound in the Netzarim area which included weapons manufacturing sites and a Hamas military compound in Khan Younis.

"The IDF views with great severity the attempt by Hamas to carry out seemingly spontaneous demonstrations intended to turn the fence into a confrontation zone and carry out acts of terror that would destabilize the Gazoo Strip," read a statement by the IDF spokesperson’s unit.

"Hamas is responsible for the event and its consequences, as well as for everything happening in and out of the Gazoo Strip, above and below the ground," it added.

Earlier Saturday, two IDF soldiers were severely maimed and two others moderately and lightly maimed after the device exploded during an IDF patrol. They were evacuated to Saroka Hospital in Beersheba by military helicopter.

Shortly afterwards, an IDF tank targeted an observation post in the southern Gazoo Strip in response.

"The incident on the Gazoo border is very serious. We will respond appropriately," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the border attack.

While the tension has risen on Israel’s border with the Gazoo Strip in recent months, the discovery and detonation of improvised bombs causing injuries to soldiers along border fence are rare. Few have been discovered since the end of Operation Protective Edge, once in early 2015, another in April 2016 and another two in March 2017.

While Israel's security establishment does not believe that Hamas wants another conflict with Israel, the situation remains fragile especially because of the worsening humanitarian conditions in the Gazoo enclave.

in the Los Angeles area this week for immigration law violations were previously convicted criminals.

Over the course of five days, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers and special agents made the arrests and served 122 notices of inspection (NOIs) to businesses in the Los Angeles area of responsibility. This is in addition to notices of inspection issued to 77 businesses in northern Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, just weeks ago.

Zimbabwe: Varsity Chancellor Nabbed Over Fake Grace Mugabe PhD
[All Africa] THE crackdown on individuals that catapulted the then First Lady, Grace Mugabe's meteoric and divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
rise to power has netted the Vice Chancellor of the Zim-bob-we's biggest university for awarding her a bogus Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.

Prof Levi Nyagura, the University of Zim-bob-we (UZ) Vice Chancellor, has been tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
on Friday during an ongoing probe by the Zim-bob-we Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) into one of the most controversial episodes to the former First Lady's ascension.

Mugabe graduated with a Doctorate in Philosophy from the Faculty of Social Studies in September 2014, three months into her "studies."

Her husband, Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
was at the time the Chancellor of the university and capped her. He held that position in all public universities.

Nyagura was expected to appear at a Harare court on Saturday at the time of going to press.

Phylis Chikundura, ZACC spokeswoman, told journalists the anti-corruption watchdog had substantial evidence regarding the conferment of the PHD degree.

"We picked him up (Nyagura) and took him into custody, where he will stay overnight (Friday). He will appear in court tomorrow (Saturday) on charges of abuse of office," Chikundura said.

Chikundura confirmed the anti-corruption commission was also investigating former Sociology Department chairman, Professor Claude Mararike, who is suspected to have facilitated and presided over Grace's awarding of the contentious degree.

Mararike is a longtime propagandist of the ruling Zanu (PF).

The arrest of Nyagura comes after ten lecturers in the Sociology department petitioning ZACC on the awarding of the degree to the beleaguered former first lady.

They (lecturers) argued they never saw her study transcripts, progress reports and thesis.

The lecturers demand that the academic honour be withdrawn and overruled insisting the vice chancellor abused his office through awarding the undeserving former first lady.

In retaliation to the accusation, Nyagura accused the lecturers of lacking the requisite qualifications to have monitored Mrs Mugabe's progress during her "studies".

Harare provincial magistrate, Elisha Singano, directed the UZ registrar to provide a set of relevant documents, records and articles to the ZACC.

The court would also access to documents proving the former first lady made pre-registration application form, her research proposal submitted to the Department of Sociology, minutes of the departmental board assigning a supervisor to Mrs Mugabe, academic certificates of her supervisor, minutes showing the doctoral degree passed through the Academic Committee and evidence of the UZ senate recommending to the university council the conferment of the doctorate.

The ZACC Sherlocks would also want be furnished with the UZ Faculty Ordinance number 44, UZ quality assurance guidelines and benchmarks for management and supervision of higher degrees by research, General Academic Regulations for Post-Graduate Degrees of the UZ 1998/99 Volume 11 as well as copies of the transcript and notification to the awarding of the PhD.

Mrs Mugabe graduated alongside the then deputy to Mugabe, Joice Mujuru, whose theses were publicly made available.

The academic qualification heralded the rise of the first lady to a position to succeed Mugabe.

These prospects vanised when the military intervened in the factionalism rocking ZANU-PF.

"I am very thankful to the chief justice; he treated Zainab like his own daughter," Zainab's father Amin Ansari told Al Jazeera.

Imran Ali is sentenced to death on four counts but Zainab's mother deems this as insufficient for the crimes he committed.

"I want him hanged where he threw Zainab's body. And he should be stoned. Hanging him is just ordinary for him," Nusrat Amin told Al Jazeera.

"Everyone should take part in stoning him. And this thing about four hangings, one hanging, two hangings, what difference does it make? I want him hanged where he killed my girl."

Berlin: Afghan Drowns While Trying To Drown Ex-Girlfriend

(link to article in German)
[BerlinerKurier] A quarrel with his girlfriend infuriated a 19-year-old, so he wanted to drown the young girl in the Havel. The 17-year-old was able to save herself, the perpetrator (a non-swimmer) sank in icy water. And now died of the consequences.

On December 19, according to the findings of the police, the asylum-seeker from Afghanistan had pushed his 17-year-old German girlfriend on Spandauer Bergwall into the Havel. Then the man jumped behind and tried several times to push the young woman under water - which failed, however. Instead, the 17-year-old managed to swim away and reach the saving shore. The savage had less luck: Since he could not swim, he went down in the only two degrees (Celsius) cold Havel.

The alarmed fire brigade and water police could pull the Afghan out of the water and resuscitate him. He was then taken to the intensive care unit of the Virchow Clinic. Here he fell directly into a coma.

On February 14, Valentine's Day, the 19-year-old died of the consequences of his bad deed, without having regained consciousness once again, as confirmed by the Senate justice administration on Friday.

His 17-year-old victim suffered a severe hypothermia in the attempted murder, but otherwise remained uninjured.

A total of two Ukrainian soldiers were killed in a probe launched against Russian backed rebels in the Peski region of northern rebel held Donetsk, according to Russian language news accounts.

The probe consisted of eight Ukrainian effectives, two of whom were killed exchanging gun fire with rebel forces, with two wounded. One Ukrainian soldier was captured. The group was said to be a detachment of the Ukrainian 57th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade.

Back in late 2014 the Peski region was one of the most contested areas in Donetsk, and up until early 2016 also was one of the areas most hit by rebel artillery.

Lugansk

In Lugansk near the Svetlodarsk region of northern Lugansk, three Ukrainian soldiers were killed and another three were wounded placing mines, according to a news account published in the pro-Russian news outlet Russkaya Vesna. The news report said that the mines were being emplaced in the gray zone between Ukrainian and rebel forces.

A separate news account in Korrespondent.net said that rebel artillery struck targets in the Svetlodarsk area for about five hours early Friday morning, using 120mm and 82mm mortar fire.

A news report which appeared in lb.ua said that more shelling took place in Lugansk 24 hours later, Saturday morning, and in the same areas as before. Two Ukrainians were wounded in the shelling.

Venezuelan firm offers eggs as 'motivational' bonus
[Al Jazeera] A security company in Venezuela has said that it is offering a "motivational" bonus, hoping to recruit more staff members to its team.

A monthly salary of $10 will be accompanied by a bonus, which will include 144 eggs.

Atlas Security in Zulia state will give the eggs to those who arrive to work promptly and maintain a professional, presentable appearance.

The firm's idea to provide those who qualify with a weekly box of 36 eggs stems from the issue of food scarcity. In the crisis-hot economy, these are worth around $2 at the black market rate.

"Many weren't complying with these basic rules, that's why we've done this," Cindy Fuenmayor, Atlas Security's human resources manager, told Rooters news agency.

"We've had lots of applications since we published the ad. We're being innovative. It's a good incentive."

According to Fuenmayor, some 200 positions are available at Atlas, mainly to guard farms.

Bonuses that include food and transport have become vital for Venezuelans at a time where the country is undergoing hyperinflation.

The currency has collapsed and the minimum wage at the black market rate amounts to about $1 a month.

With one the world's highest murder rates, security personnel are usually victims of assault.

Nicolas Maduro, the country's socialist president, blames these issues on an "economic war" which he believed has been waged by the opposition with the help of the United States.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
critics say his government has wrecked the economy through incompetence and corruption.

Police foil 13-year-old girl's marriage to 55-year-old man staged by her father
[DAWN] Police raided a marriage ceremony in Hassanabdal, foiling a bid to marry off a teenaged girl with a 55-year-old man, it emerged on Saturday.

The 13-year-old girl's father and the accused groom were placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
while raids are being conducted to arrest the nikah khawan (officiator of the marriage), police said.

According to police, the father hailing from Mardan had agreed to marry his daughter off to a man more than four times her age in exchange for the promise of a five-marla plot. The nikah was already performed on February 11 while the rukhsati (bridal departure) was scheduled to take place in village Pind Mehri on Friday.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
on the day of the rukhsati, neighbours alerted police about the child marriage bid after which police personnel conducted a raid and arrested the minor's girl father and groom. Police also took the girl into custody and sent her to a Darul Aman.

SHO Saddar cop shoppe Tariq Mehmood told DawnNews that the 55-year-old groom had been living in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
for the past 20 years and had returned home only recently. His wife had left him six months ago and he already has two daughters, aged 12 and 6.

The groom had offered to the victim's father, who is poor, that he would give him a five-marla plot in the same area if he lets him marry his daughter, to which the father had consented.

Police have registered cases against the father, the groom and the absconding nikah khawan under the Child Marriage Restraint Act on behalf of the state, the SHO said. The two arrested men were presented before a local court, which handed them over to police on physical remand.

Both opposition and government observer sources in Damascus describe the fighting between ISIS Death Eaters and rival snuffies throughout Yarmouk Camp as particularly brutal.

Just like any battle with the Syrian Army, Islamic State turbans are taking no prisoners ‐ at least not without executing them soon after.

At the present time, ISIS is storming the Ar-Rija Square (map update available here) ‐ considered by sources to be Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham’s final defense line and last stronghold area within Yarmouk Camp.

Should Islamic State forces take Ar-Rija Square, then Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham will have suffered absolute defeat within the district town ‐ the years-long battle for control of it finally coming to a sudden and very bloody end.

, its interior ministry said on Saturday.

The ministry’s general inspector said in a statement, quoted by Alforatnews, that ministry teams in Kirkuk blocked the transfer of scriptures and antiquities worth USD13 million to Turkey, which were in the possession of two people.

Those, the statement revealed, included scriptures and a bust.

It added that the suspects confessed to agreeing with another party in Turkey on the handover of the pieces. They said they were also expecting to receive more items while waiting at the Ottoman Turkish borders, including jewelry belonging to the wife of late president Saddam Hussein worth millions of dollars.

Day 9: Egypt's military says kills seven 'takfiris', arrests 408 suspects in north and central Sinai
[AlAhram] Egypt’s army said on Saturday it killed seven "takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
s" in north and central Sinai and enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
408 suspected or wanted criminal elements as Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018 continues into its ninth day.

In the ninth communique since the counter-terrorism campaign was launched last Friday, the army said the air forces destroyed eight terrorist targets, killing three "takfiris" and destroying a 4x4 wheeler carrying a half-inch submachine gun.

The Arabic word "takfiri" refers to hardline Sunni Moslems who accuse other Moslems of being infidels, often as a justification for using violence against them.

The army said forces also raided a dangerous terrorist hotspot, killing four of the armed "takfiri" elements during a shootout, adding that the raid resulted in the confiscation of two machine guns and a improvised bomb.

The statement said 408 suspected or wanted criminals were arrested and are being legally processed.

Operation Sinai 2018 was launched last Friday, involving land, naval and air forces, as well as the police and border guards, targeting "terrorist and criminal elements and organizations" in northern and central Sinai, as well as parts of the Nile Delta and the Western Desert.

The statement said army engineers uncovered and diffused 45 IEDs which were planted to target security forces during operations.

The army added that its forces destroyed 158 dens and storehouses containing a number of highly kabooms, C4 and chemical elements used to manufacture IEDs, transmission devices, as well as seven vehicles and 32 unlicensed cycle of violences used by the terrorist elements.

Seven tonnes of narcotics were also seized in the operations.

The statement added that the naval forces continued to conduct missions to secure the coasts from Rafah till al-Arish in order to stop the escape of terrorist elements through the sea.

The joint combat units of the border guard and the police conducted 586 flying checkpoints on main roads and across desert areas nationwide, imposing full control along the southern and western borders.

According to the statement, Border Guard forces stopped an attempt to smuggle weapons and narcotics on the western borders, seizing 99 guns and 400,000 different narcotic pills.

As part of the efforts to bring the legal status of citizens who live in north and central Sinai up to date, the army said the interior ministry was currently issuing and renewing national IDs, as well as driving licenses and licenses for vehicles and cycle of violences.

Body of Filipina maid found in freezer flown home from Kuwait
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] More than a hundred relatives and supporters of a Filipina maid whose body was found stuffed in a freezer in Kuwait brandished banners demanding justice as her coffin was returned home on Saturday.

The family of Joanna Demafelis openly wept as the white casket was unloaded at an airport cargo terminal in the central city of Iloilo.

"Justice for Joanna D. Demafelis," was emblazoned on banners and on T-shirts worn by the crowd which included a congressman and local officials expressing their anger over the death of the Filipina whose body was found in a freezer in Kuwait earlier this month.

The incident worsened a diplomatic flap between the Philippines and Kuwait with President Rodrigo Duterte alleging that Arab employers routinely rape their Filipina workers, force them to work 21 hours a day and feed them scraps.

He has also banned the deployment of new workers to Kuwait and ordered airlines to fly home any of the 252,000 Filipinos working there who wish to return.

About 10 million Filipinos work abroad and the money they remit back is a lifeline of the Philippine economy. Their treatment abroad is often a political issue at home.

Kuwait's foreign minister previously condemned Manila's "escalation," of the issue but Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said Friday the Kuwaiti ambassador had assured him his government was "outraged" over the killing and determined to find those responsible.

A distraught Eva Demafelis could only say "I am sad," when asked by news hounds about the death of her daughter.

"She does not deserve the manner in which she died. She was beaten up," said an aunt, Rosela Demafelis Taunan, referring to local news reports about the 29-year-old maid's death.

"She decided to go abroad because she wanted to help her parents repair the house that was damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan)," in 2013, the aunt recalled.

The slain maid also wanted to finance the college education of her youngest sister, Joyce, the aunt said.

Residents lined the highway as the funeral convoy escorted by police cars and cycle of violences made its way to Demafelis's hometown, about a two hour's drive from the city.

Labour Secretary Silvestre Bello said late Friday that "working groups" from both countries were discussing forging a memorandum for protecting the rights of Filipinos in Kuwait, many of whom are working as maids.

Domestic workers in that country are not covered by ordinary labour legislation, and accounts of Filipinas being subjected to abuse and exploitation in the Middle East have long circulated.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Analysis: What happened to Russia’s new armoured vehicles?
[Shephard] Almost three years after the high-profile public debut of Russia’s new armoured platforms – the Armata, the Kurganets-25 and Bumerang families – their large-scale procurement for the Russian military still appears to be a distant prospect.

At the time, observers noted that these vehicles would give Russia a significant technological edge over NATO forces.

But this now appears to have been presumptuous. The vehicles have suffered from funding problems, technical issues and conceptual changes that have caused serious delays to the development effort, and the follow-on launch into production and fielding into regular service.

The Armata heavy tracked platform, developed by Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), is the flagship of the Russian armour recapitalisation effort. It covers a family of three combat vehicles using a common tracked platform – the T-14 MBT, T-15 heavyweight IFV and the T-16 armoured recovery vehicle.

The T-14 has been described as a revolutionary combat vehicle with unmanned turret and crew accommodated in an armoured capsule in the hull for better protection. The tank has all-new sophisticated passive and active protection systems and is equipped for network centric operations.

Officially, the T-14’s development effort is proceeding forward on schedule, and this has been claimed by the Russian Land Forces commander-in-chief, Col Gen Oleg Salykov in November 2017.

He also reconfirmed previously released information that an experimental batch of 100 vehicles is set to be delivered for field testing with that effort slated for completion by 2020. Russia's TASS news agency reported in February 2018 that Russian officials had confirmed an order for two battalions of T-14s and a battalion of T-15s, possibly the test batch vehicles.

There is even more uncertainty surrounding the T-15 IFV, with elements such as the turret configuration still unknown.

The Kurganets-25 medium-class tracked platform, developed by Traktornye Zavody, appears to have the most criticism levelled against it among all the new generation platforms in development.

It was used as the basis for the B-11 IFV and B-10 APC, both criticised by Russian military officers during 2015 for their significant size, much larger than today’s BMP-2 and BMP-3 used by the Russian Land Forces. A redesigned platform was expected to begin testing in 2017 but there is little evidence that this test effort has started.

In the recent years, the Russian MoD has invested heavily in upgrading its existing armour inventory such as the T-72 MBT and BMP-2 IFV and continues to place orders for newly-built T-90 MBTs and BMP-3 IFVs.

These hefty investments in proven designs are a likely sign that the army’s next-generation armour platforms, including the Armata, Kurganets-25 and Bumerang families, are still being regarded by the Russian military leadership as distant prospects.

#1  ...REALITY CHECK: With the qualified exception of some ships, all the Soviet Russian military has been able to get is small quantities of essentially hand-built running prototypes. They may get it sorted out, but for the foreseeable future (I'd say at least 2025 - 2030) all they're running is warmed-over late Cold War tech.

Europe
Entire German U-boat fleet out of action
[UKDefenseJournal] "It’s a real disaster for the Navy, it’s the first time in history that there will not be any submarine operating for months," warns the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Parliament, Hans-Peter Bartels, in an interview published on Sunday in the Berlin weekly Bild am Sonntag.

The problem, he explained, has worsened over time due to the German military not replacing out of date equipment.

The German Navy lost its last submarine in October, as the rudder of its last Type 212A was severely damaged in a collision with a rock off the Norwegian coast while the rest of the fleet was out of service.

It is also understood that none of the new frigates, the Type 125s, are able to enter into operational service due to defects and a similar situation is faced by auxiliary ships, Berlin and Bonn, which were sent to dry dock for a year and a half of repairs.

In 2015, it was revealed that only 29 of Germany’s 66 Tornado jets are airworthy. Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen then stressed that only six of the operational Tornado jets would be needed for the proposed German mission in Syria. German chief of staff General Volker Wieker said:
They're saving money by not spending on defense. And who can blame them? They have a sucker to pay it for them. They live in a socialist paradise and they get to criticize the Americans who protect them as baby-killing fascist warmongers.

Of course the freeloading world is upset that the good old American all-you-can-eat buffet of handouts is coming to an end. Pulling their own weight is something strange and new to them. I'm not interested in the US military being the world's police or some other countries' mercenary army.

India-Pakistan
Terror financing
[DAWN] THE juncture that Pakistain stands at today ‐ of potentially being ’grey listed’ by the Financial Action Task Force for failure to take action against groups and individuals designated by the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
as bully boyz ‐ is not new. For three years, Pakistain was on this grey list from 2012 to 2015 for failing to enact an anti-money-laundering law. Once that was done, under the guidance of the then finance minister Ishaq Dar, the country was taken out of the grey list, and the financial sector breathed a sigh of relief. Then, a new set of commitments had to be delivered on: proscribe those groups designated as bully boyz by the UN, and seize their assets, restrict the movement of their leadership and halt their fundraising. From 2015, the country struggled with this, because the groups in question, ie the Falah-e-Insaniyat
...the current false nose and mustache of Jamaat ud-Dawa, which was the false nose and mustache of Lashkar e-Taiba...
and the Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
, appeared to enjoy support from powerful quarters and were set to be ’mainstreamed’ in Pak politics in preparation for the 2018 general election.

Now on the eve of the FATF meeting in Gay Paree, we are seeing action being taken against these very groups. Previously, the country witnessed only cosmetic action being taken against groups designated as bully boyz by the UN just before a review by the FATF. On completion of the review, action would not be pursued. This is why many are asking whether or not history is set to repeat itself. But could there be reason to believe that things may be different now? One positive aspect is that in the days following the promulgation of the presidential ordinance harmonising the list of proscribed organizations maintained by Pakistain and the UN, a crackdown more wide-ranging than previously has been in evidence. One must hope that somewhere deep inside the state’s decision-making structures, something has changed.

In any case, it is in Pakistain’s own interest to ensure that crackdowns and bans on specific organizations have the desired effect and that these groups are defanged permanently and do not have any opportunity to resurrect themselves under a different name. The actions being taken now, which include the seizing of the financial assets of the groups, hopefully indicate a change of heart at the top levels of government; but the state should ensure that these extend to all bad boy groups in the country ‐ and not only to those proscribed internationally. The organizations in question have struck deep roots in Pak society with their charity work, and making a meaningful change in their modus operandi will require a sustained, detailed strategy. The current steps against these groups may well satisfy the international obligations that the government is seeking to fulfil. But the real commitment is to the people of Pakistain who want to be able to live and breathe in a country free from extremism.

Abu Sayyaf kills soldier, injures two others, in Sulu clash
[Mindanao Examiner] Abu Sayyaf rebels killed a Philippine soldier and injured two others in a gun battle in the southern province of Sulu. The clash in Patikul town was unreported by the Western Mindanao Command, but security sources said it occurred in Tugas village.

Troops were searching for kidnapped government engineer Enrico Nee in the village when gunmen attacked them. Nee was seized February 14 while waiting for a motorcycle taxi near his home in San Raymundo village in Jolo town. Nee was dragged by gunmen to a getaway vehicle.

The abduction came just several days after troops killed four rebels in a clash in Panamao town where seven soldiers were also injured in the fighting. Members of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 3 clashed with some 30 gunmen under Abu Sayyaf commanders Sansibar Bensio and Hatib Munap Binda in Mount Bawis.

The troops were sent to the area following reports that several Abu Sayyaf hostages had been spotted there. The Abu Sayyaf are still holding over a dozen captives, mostly seamen kidnapped off Sabah in Malaysia over the years.

US-led forces ‘killed, hurt 300 Russians’ in Syria
[DAWN] About 300 men working for a Kremlin-linked Russian private military firm were killed or injured by US-led coalition forces in Syria last week, sources told Rooters.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
according to Russian officials, there was initial information about the death of five citizens but they had no relation to Russia’s armed forces.

The timing of the casualties coincided with a battle on Feb 7 near the Syrian city of Deir al-Zor where, according to US officials and associates of the fighters involved, the US-led coalition forces attacked forces aligned with Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
A source who knows several of the fighters said the corpse count was in excess of 80 men, while a Russian military doctor told Rooters that around 100 had been killed. The maimed evacuated from Syria in the past few days have been shifted to four Russian military hospitals, according to five sources familiar with the matter.

The doctor, who works in a Moscow military hospital, said more than 50 maimed men evacuated from Syria were under treatment at the hospital last Saturday. Around 15 of them were said to be in a serious condition. He claimed that three planeloads of injured fighters were flown to the city from Feb 9 to 12. They were flown back on military cargo planes which can each accommodate two or three intensive care cases.

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, said initial information was that five Russian citizens in the area of the battle had been killed, but they were not Russian troops. She said reports of tens or hundreds of Russian casualties were disinformation inspired by Russia’s opponents.

Jordan foils militant pipeline smuggling plot: army
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Jordan’s army said Saturday it has foiled a plot to smuggle arms, drugs and "terrorists" through a disused oil pipeline along its border with Syria.

"The Jordanian armed forces were able... to thwart a plan to smuggle weapons, drugs and terrorists" through the pipeline, an official in the general command said in a statement.

"A group of Death Eaters and narcos" had used a house near the Jordan-Syria border and the disused Trans-Arabian Pipeline (Tapline) to "dig and prepare a series of tunnels for use in smuggling operations and to carry out terrorist attacks", the official said.

Authorities have ordered the destruction of the tunnels and instructed army engineering units to unearth the pipeline to prevent other "smugglers and terrorists" from using it.

Mueller Worked with Lerner to Target Tea Party
[AMERICANTHINKER] Just when you thought the Deep State swamp couldn't get any murkier and the stench any more repugnant, we are reminded by Judicial Watch's Tom Fitton in a Feb. 13 tweet of how Robert Mueller's FBI worked with Lois Lerner's IRS to target Tea Party and other groups in the run-up to the Obama re-election campaign:
@JudicialWatch lawsuit uncovered how Mueller's FBI worked with Lois Lerner's IRS to try to prosecute the very groups Obama IRS was suppressing. Another reason I don't trust Mr. Mueller – or the FBI!
The treasure trove of documents detailing the weaponizing of powerful government agencies, including Mueller's FBI, by the Obama administration to target the Tea Party was obtained by Judicial Watch as a result of court orders stemming from Freedom of Information Act lawsuits after the political targeting of the Tea Party:

And that is exactly one of the reasons, the FBI is having credibility problems today. When lying with dogs, fleas are likely to be a problem.

Hero Citizen Stops Mass Shooting in a Church, Cops Show Up and Shoot HIM‐Media Silent
[Free Thought] Amarillo, TX — As news of the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida dominated the airwaves this week, a massive hostage situation—which was quickly turning into a mass shooting situation—was foiled by a hero in a church. That hero, however, is now in the hospital after police showed up to the scene and shot him.

The situation was well on its way to becoming one of the deadliest shootings in history as the gunman took over 100 people hostage inside the Faith City Mission church on Wednesday.

“They said there was a gun in the building everyone started running all different ways,” said Clay Murdock, a student at Faith City Mission.

According to WLOX, Murdock said he tried to get as many people inside their sound room as possible.

“We’re standing in there and everyone starts praying,” said Murdock. “I went outside to see what was going on if I could get more people in there and right when as I went outside the guy was standing right in front of me with the pistol.”

Murdock then ran outside.

Ukrainian armed group detained in Carpathians
A total of 12 unidentified armed individuals tied to a Ukrainian militant nationalist group were detained and forced to leave a village by local residents and the police in eastern Ukraine, according to Russian language news accounts.

On Saturday evening, 12 people, later identified as residing in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kiev and the Kharkov regions, entered the village of Mykulychyn in Ivano-Frankivsk region. Reports say the 12 were dressed in military fatigues and armed with hunting rifles and non lethal weapons.

The group had told villagers they were there to stop illegal logging in the region

A group of about 200 residents surrounded the group and demanded they leave. The article in korrespondent.net said that the confrontation almost came to blows before the police arrived and detained the 12.

The weapons were licensed, but the group was ordered by the police to leave the village.

The group sported emblems which associated them with the National Corps, a civilian paramiltary group with ties to Andrei Bilitsy, leader of the Azov Regiment.

The group was armed with four shotguns, two rifles and a non lethal pistol.

The article said that criminal charges were filed against the individuals, but that they had been released.
