A Russian version of the private army in the movie Kelly's Heroes?
I had heard earlier that people were claiming 600 Russian dead and wounded. As one Russian writer pointed out, that is the functional equivalent of a rifle regiment. The air attack wasn't just one hit. It was a six hour+ mini campaign with NATO birds hitting their targets, returning to base to refuel and rearm and then heading back out again.

That a total of 15 (the number of Russian PMC dead I heard) were killed in a six hour operation tells me they may not have even been part of the operation. Russian PMCs are like ours: they are combat experienced, and some of them are probably former special ops. They're not stupid. They likely know better than to attack a fixed NATO position at night. If NATO had forward air controllers or even special forces in the area, they could direct aircraft to deadly effect, and there would have been little the PMCs could have done about it.

The coolest part of this story is the idea that a private business man has a private army complete with tanks and artillery. As the title suggests, this was Kelly's Heroes with a Russian accent.

It is important to note that the outlet where I read about the minicampaign, Business Insider, has inflated Russian war casualties before in Donetsk. I have even fallen for Russian military jargon, not believing at the time the central story that 200 were killed in an artillery attack. But then I don’t draw a salary to pay attention to my beat.

Russian military love to continue to use their jargon. So, when a translation comes out as two 300s, that means two wounded. But give the BI writers credit. They at least can do simple arithmetic.

We will continue to hear the 600 dead meme for some time to come, I think. Then the major wire services quietly will come out with corrections, the bats will be in the belfry and all will be right with the world.

As of now we keep hearing about lists of wounded housed in Moscow military hospitals, when those lists, the Russians insist, are spurious and chock full of made up names, as well as the names of Soviet writers. Some of those lists were compiled by a Ukrainian journalist (I forget the name) known to post bogus news about Russia.

[TheJamestownFoundation] Officials from the United States and Russia, together with non-governmental sources, all agree on the core narrative: On February 7, 2018, east of the Euphrates River, in the oil-rich province of Deir el-Zour, a battalion-size armed group loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, supported by armor and artillery, moved to take over a dysfunctional oil refinery occupied by the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF); but this invading force was then decimated by US firepower “in self-defense.” The Euphrates River is more or less the so-called “de-confliction line,” agreed on by US and Russian military chiefs to separate Russian-supported pro-al-Assad forces and the US-backed SDF. On February 7, the pro-al-Assad forces were operating on the wrong (eastern) side of the river and threatened SDF fighters and coalition special forces embedded with them. The Russian Ministry of Defense insisted “no Russian servicemen were involved” and explained the incident as a mistaken move by local pro-al-Assad militias pursuing some Islamic State leftovers. The Russian authorities scolded the pro-al-Assad fighters for failing to notify and vet their move with Russian command in advance; but they simultaneously rebuked US forces for “seeking to grab valuable economic assets instead of fighting ISIS [the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria—the former name of the Islamic State group]” (Interfax, February 8).

Yet, as more evidence trickled in, the narrative presented in Moscow began to shift. According to Kommersant, a large force of several hundred men—pro-al-Assad militias reinforced by fighters from the notorious private military company (in Russian Chastnye Voennie Company—ChVK) “Vagner”—gathered to attack the refinery and possibly take over nearby oil and natural gas fields. The backbone of the force was made up of up to 600 ChVK Vagner Russian contractors armed with tanks and heavy guns, according to an unnamed military source. The attack was not authorized by the Russian command and was planned as a night raid—the Russian-led force opened fire and attempted to swiftly move in, believing the SDF would offer only token resistance and that US forces would not risk aerial attack as the Russians moved in. But the US promptly deployed overwhelming firepower before all of the ChVK Vagner contractors moved out into battle formation. They suffered heavy losses in both men and equipment. The unnamed Kommersant military source told the paper that about 11 Russians were dead (Kommersant, February 14).

Igor Strelkov (Girkin)—the former commander of Russia-backed rebels in Ukraine’s Donbas—was one of the first to post a report, based on information from “reliable sources,” about at least a hundred Russian ChVK Vagner fighters “slaughtered” by the US. Strelkov, like some other radical Russian nationalists, has opposed President Vladimir Putin’s incursion into the Syrian civil war, believing true Russian patriots must fight for Russian interests by defending truly Russian land, like in Donbas. Strelkov called for future potential volunteers “to think twice before enlisting with ChVK Vagner” (Newsru.com, February 9). This is not the first time Strelkov has published reports about heavy Russian casualties in Syria that have quoted former “colleagues from Donbas” who are now with ChVK Vagner (see EDM, October 12, 2017).

Different media outlets have reported widely disparate casualty estimates: Pro-Kremlin sources have tended to downplay the losses, declaring about 10 to 20 Russians dead and up to 50 wounded, while others report casualties in the hundreds. Official sources refuse comment, citing a lack of reliable information. But no one seems to refute the fact of an encounter gone badly wrong or that ChVK Vagner mercenaries were hit by US military fire, that many were killed or wounded, and that heavy equipment was destroyed (Kp.ru, February 13).

The ChVK Vagner force demonstrated rare incompetence by cavaliering into a night assault against a US-backed force, apparently ignorant of the fact that the US military has, for some time, preferred to fight in the dark to utilize night-vision superiority. The experience of fighting in Donbas or against the Syrian opposition and the Islamic State may have provided them with a false sense of security, underestimating what a full-scale US precision firepower attack could bring.

Russian military chiefs, meanwhile, may be somewhat pleased ChVK Vagner receive a licking. The private military company is reportedly financed and sponsored by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman from St. Petersburg known in the Kremlin court as “the cook” because he began his career catering for Vladimir Putin. Prigozhin reportedly has business interests in Syria and is apparently seeking to take over phosphate mining, oil and natural gas deposits. In promoting ChVK Vagner, “the cook” and his private army have reportedly increasingly come into conflict with the Ministry of Defense and Minister Sergei Shoigu (Novaya Gazeta, January 21).

The Russian military command almost certainly knew in advance of ChVK Vagner’s planned move east of the Euphrates. And in Moscow, most assume the “traitorous” Americans were also aware of the imminent attack and, thus, prepared a deadly ambush (Militarynews.ru, February 13). This narrative is supported by the fact that, just hours before the ChVK Vagner force was massacred, a 210-meter bridge over the Euphrates, built last September by Russian sappers (see EDM, September 28, 2017), was washed away by a sudden flash flood. The Russian military accuses the SDF and/or the US of deliberately opening the floodgates at a hydroelectric damn upriver to destroy the bridge. The Pentagon denies this allegation (Interfax, February 9). The collapsing bridge cut off the Vagner-led force on the left bank from supplies, reinforcements and the possibility of an organized retreat.

Lieutenant General Jeffrey Harrigian, the top US Air Force general in the Middle East, told journalists the encounter in Deir el-Zour “was not entirely unexpected”: For a week prior to the incident, the US had observed a slow buildup of hostile forces on the Euphrates bridgehead and reportedly contacted the Russian military. According to Harrigian, to repel the attack, multiple precision-fire munitions were released by ground artillery, F-15E fighter jets, MQ-9 drones, B-52 bombers, AC-130 gunships and AH-64 Apache helicopters (RBC, February 14). Some of these formidable assets could have been scrambled at short notice, but the B-52s, based presumably at Diego Garcia island, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, must have been in the air, loaded with ordinance, hours before ChVK Vagner made its move.

No one seems to be telling the whole truth about an encounter in which the US military seemingly knowingly planned and executed an attack on proxy Russian troops, while the Russian military command deliberately turned a blind eye. This dangerous combination of heavy casualties and muddled narratives could potentially escalate into something much worse than war by proxy.

#1  No one seems to be telling the whole truth about an encounter in which the US military seemingly knowingly planned and executed an attack on proxy Russian troops, while the Russian military command deliberately turned a blind eye.

Seems as though I read somewhere that "truth is always the first casualty of war."

"Planning and executing" one's defense is a fairly common doctrine among most army's of the world.

Perhaps it was intended as an embarrassment to the US Gov't. A bit of that going around lately. A few US personnel killed, a few more wounded and captured. A prisoner snatch? Thankfully a failed effort, but potentially not the last. The embarrassment now appears to be on the other foot.

#4  I'd start with the facts first given by Centcom. 500+ attack for with heavy armor/artillery. Originally listed as pro-Assad militia and mercenaries providing the heavy firepower. 100+ dead, up to 200 wounded. Majority, if not vast majority, of the dead and wounded likely Vagner mercs since the Air Force will first go after the armor.

As for the B-52, there is a heavy bomber most of the time over Iraq/Syria and Afghanistan to provide a deep magazine of precision bombs, not to mention constant patrols of dozens of Reapers and fighter bombers daily. The battle was long enough (3+ hours mentioned), that fighter-bombers could have been scrambled Al Udeid. Is the Air Force still flying A-10s and Reapers from out of Incirlik or only tankers since Erdogan's Reichstag fire moment?

#5  The Russian ministry of foreign affairs continues to insist the total Russian dead is at five. The Russian business news outlet, Kommersant said the total Russian dead is at 15.

I noticed Centcom did not mention tanks. No reporting anywhere I can find about tank losses. You'd think if Centcom can claim 100+ dead, they can surely claim tanks as well.

Russians ain't stupid, as I said. If they knew they were about to become dogmeat, they'd get the hell out of Dodge.

Infidel Women: Spoils of War (Caution - graphic images)
[Gatestone] One aspect of radical Islamist aggression that is overlooked ‐ or purposely ignored ‐ by Western liberals is that non-Muslim women tend to be its greatest victims. According to a recent Open Doors study, "Christian women are among the most violated in the world, in maybe a way that we haven't seen before." The study revealed that six women are raped every day simply for being Christian.

The reason for this is simple. As harsh as Islamic law (sharia) is for men, it is even more so for women. The Koran gives men the authority to beat women for disobedience (4:34), that the testimony of two women equals that of one man (2:282); most of hell's population consists of women; and women are likened to donkeys and dogs for distracting men from and annulling their prayer.

Such injustice for women is confirmed by a newly released report for the UK government on the application of sharia law in England and Wales ‐ a report that reveals the "systemic discrimination against women."

#2  I think it all part of the Leninist agenda to make the state the religion. If the state is the religion, you have no need for Christianity. But you have to marginalize it first.

Violent Brawls Transform Carnival Trip into 'Cruise from Hell,' Passengers Say
Hat Tip: gCaptain. Even video...Severe peasantry. What we have here is a failure to communicate.
People vacationing on a Carnival cruise line this week in the South Pacific had their trip turned upside down thanks to a series of violent brawls that seemed to transform the ship from a paradise into a fight club.

The Carnival Legend was forced to escort several guests off the ship and place them on a smaller boat ahead of the boat's docking in Australia on Saturday.

Several fights broke out over the 10-day cruise, including two captured on camera showing guests throwing punches on a pool deck and a ship nightclub.

Passengers have described the trip as the "cruise from hell."

The second video showed people yelling, crying, throwing punches and a crew member repeatedly kicking a guest on the floor.

Passengers have said members of an extended family started trouble with other guests constantly, some passengers just stayed inside their rooms to avoid the group.

Kellie Petersen, who was with her husband and three children, told local reporters she was afraid.

"Fights have been going on for a few days now," she said. "We're scared. We've been told to watch our backs by this group so we're scared to go anywhere alone in the ship.

"We can't wait to get off," she added.

In a statement to USA TODAY, the cruise line said it is investigating.

"Our security team responded in several instances to extremely unruly behavior by these guests while the ship was at sea," the statement reads. "The actions seen on the video by our security team are not in line with our values and policies."

It's unclear exactly how and why the fights started, but one family member told local media it may have originated because of a misunderstanding after someone stepped on someone else's flip-flop.

Several of the family members were kicked off the ship and taken by local authorities. Guests filmed them boarding a smaller vessel and booed.

The cruise line offered all guest aboard a 25% credit to make up for the issues.

"We sincerely regret that the unruly conduct and actions of the passengers removed from the ship in Australia may have prevented our guests from fully enjoying their cruise," the company said in a statement.
In today's lawless atmosphere, the cruise lines will need a brig, and a plank for the real bad ones to walk.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
How A Plea Reversal From Michael Flynn Could Uncover More Federal Corruption
[The Federalist] On Friday, Judge Emmet Sullivan issued an order in United States v. Flynn that, while widely unnoticed, reveals something fascinating: A motion by Michael Flynn to withdraw his guilty plea based on government misconduct is likely in the works.

Just a week ago, and thus before Sullivan quietly directed Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team to provide Flynn’s attorneys "any exculpatory evidence," Washington Examiner columnist Byron York detailed the oddities of Flynn’s case. The next day, former assistant U.S. attorney and National Review contributing editor Andrew McCarthy connected more of the questionable dots. York added even more details a couple of days later. Together these articles provide the backdrop necessary to understand the significance of Sullivan’s order on Friday.

What’s Happened in the Michael Flynn Case So Far To recap:

On November 30, 2017, prosecutors working for Mueller charged former Trump national security advisor Flynn with lying to FBI agents. The following day, Flynn pled guilty before federal judge Rudolph Contreras. Less than a week later ‐ and without explanation ‐ Flynn’s case was reassigned to Judge Emmet G. Sullivan.

One of Sullivan’s first orders of business was to enter a standing order, on December 12, 2017, directing "the government to produce to defendant in a timely manner ‐ including during plea negotiations ‐ any evidence in its possession that is favorable to defendant and material either to defendant’s guilt or punishment." Sullivan’s standing order further directed the government, if it "has identified any information which is favorable to the defendant but which the government believes not to be material," to "submit such information to the Court for in camera review."

Sullivan enters identical standing orders as a matter of course in all of his criminal cases, as he explained in a 2016 Cardozo Law Review article: "Following the Stevens case, I have issued a standing Brady Order for each criminal case on my docket, updating it in reaction to developments in the law." A Brady order directs the government to disclose all exculpatory evidence to defense counsel, as required by Brady v. Maryland. The Stevens case, of course, is the government’s corrupt prosecution of the late senator Ted Stevens‐an investigation and prosecution which, as Sullivan put it, "were permeated by the systematic concealment of significant exculpatory evidence. . . ."

I vaguely remember that a question came up about those 302's being either inaccurate or deliberately miss leading as to the contents of the "interview." There has been some buzz that the lying to the FBI is based upon these 302's which may be hinky and not worth the paper they are written on.

Adam Rippon Will NOT Work For NBC As A Correspondent For Remainder Of 2018 Winter Olympics
Methinks changing his mind so suddenly on what ought to be a major decision simply highlights his vanity and self-importance. That, or he wants to spend the rest of the week playing butt bongo with his boyfriends...
[NBCConnection] After reportedly agreeing to be an NBC correspondent for the remainder of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, Adam Rippon has decided he will not join the network as a sports analyst.

"I’m so flattered that NBC wanted me to work as a correspondent, but if I took this opportunity, I would have to leave the Olympic team, I’d have to leave the village," the figure skater told NBCSN in an interview Monday (Sunday night in the U.S.) "It’s so important to me, you know, I worked so hard to be on this Olympic team, and my teammates and my friends were there for me during my events, and that means so much to me, that I really feel like I need to be there for them during their events."

Earlier in the day, NBC spokesman Greg Hughes confirmed that Rippon accepted an offer to contribute to NBC's Olympic coverage across multiple platforms, including television and social media.

But according to USA Today’s Christine Brennan, Rippon changed his mind after learning he would have to relinquish his official status as an Olympic athlete, rescind his Olympic credential and move out of the Team USA facilities if he took the gig with NBC. He also would not have been able to march in the closing ceremony.
In other words, it's all about him. Butt we knew that already...

Ted Cruz - Trump's Wingman
[Dallas Morning News, snippets] One thing Sen. Ted Cruz isn’t doing as he seeks a second term is running away from the president. Despite a checkered history, the Texan boasts about his access and influence on matters ranging from taxes to the Paris Climate Accord.

"I spent a lot of time urging President Trump to pull out of that deal," he recounted. "I spent 45 minutes on Air Force One saying, `Mr. President, this is killing jobs and it’s bad for our economy.'"

The day after Trump announced his decision, Cruz continued, "he calls me on my cellphone. He says, 'Well, Ted, I did it, what do you think?’ ... I told him, `Mr. President, everyone who hates you is ticked off and everyone who loves you is thrilled.’"

Vice President Mike Pence vouched for Cruz at a Dallas County GOP dinner Saturday night.

"He's worked shoulder to shoulder with this president, every step of the way," Pence said, calling him "one of the most clarion, unapologetic and courageous conservative voices in the United States of America. President Trump and I want to make sure you send Senator Ted Cruz back to the United States Senate in 2018."

At Buzzie's BBQ in Kerrville, under the watchful eyes of 20 or so mounted heads of deer, buffalo and other game, Cruz was talking up border security when a woman shouted "Build the wall!" ‐ a signature Trump promise.

"Amen," Cruz shot back, upping the ante by reminding her that he’d proposed legislation to use assets seized from drug kingpins to pay for Trump’s wall.

The president of the Kendall County Republican Women in Boerne, said Trump remains popular in Texas, so it’s only natural for Cruz to hug him close.

"Texans are elated about what he’s doing for America," she said.

She pointed to Cruz’s success on 529 [college savings] plans as an example of ability to navigate Congress, after an early start as an outcast.

And she has absolutely no concern that he might fall to a Democrat in 2018.

"This," she noted, "is Texas

Hillary Campaign Colluded With British Labourites
[Spectator] Foreign nationals swarmed swing states at invitation of Clinton campaign.

Amid the news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has indicted 13 Russians charged with trying to influence an American election? The American Spectator has been tipped to a damning article published in Buzzfeed UK two days before the 2016 election. An article that documents in detail a stunning fact. The BuzzFeed UK headline:

Lots Of British People Are In The US Campaigning For Hillary Clinton

Good luck finding any British volunteers working on the Donald Trump campaign.

In what the Mueller indictments clearly state is a violation of U.S. law, the Hillary Clinton campaign was specifically inviting “at least 70 British Labour activists” to campaign for Clinton in Charlotte, North Carolina. And North Carolina wasn’t the only swing state of the 2016 campaign to get visits from British Leftists at the behest of the Clinton campaign.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The Left Is Reaping the Whirlwind of the Culture They Made
by Andrew Klaven

[PJMedia] "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 7:8

It was after a school shooting near Spokane last September that Spokane Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich addressed a clutch of reporters:

When I was in high school, every one of those rigs in the high school parking lot had a gun in the gun rack. Why? We went hunting on the way home. None of those guns ever walked into a school, none of those guns ever shot anybody... Did the gun change or did you as a society change? I'll give you odds it was you as a society. Because you started glorifying cultures of violence. You glorified the gang culture, you glorified games that actually gave you points for raping and killing people. The gun didn't change, we changed.

It seems clear to me the sheriff was speaking about rap music with its hateful, violent and misogynistic lyrics, and video games like Grand Theft Auto, where you can have sex with a prostitute then strangle her or pull an innocent person out of a car, beat him, then steal his vehicle.

I am a First Amendment purist and don't want to see expression censored in any way. And I don't argue that there's a straight line between any specific cultural creation and bad acts. But surely, a culture in which those in authority approve of and argue for things like gangsta rap and GTA ‐ and indeed for the use of violence to silence speech that offends them ‐ well, such a culture becomes a machine for transforming madness into murder.

It reminds me of some wisdom from another two sheriffs, the fictional sheriffs from the Coen Brothers movie of Cormac McCarthy's novel No Country for Old Men discussing the mindless violence that has taken over society.

"Once you stop hearing 'sir' and 'ma'am' the rest is soon to follow," says one.

"It's the tide, the dismal tide," says the other. "It's not the one thing."

The left wants to defend gangstas and "transgressive" art and antifa thugs ‐ but when the shooting starts, they blame the guns.

The left wants to get rid of feminine modesty and masculine protectiveness and social restrictions on sex ‐ but when the abuse and rape and harassment rise to the surface, they start whining about toxic manhood. Perhaps they should have listened to the Catholic apologist G.K. Chesterton, who wrote about the difference between reforming society and deforming it ‐ a passage that was neatly paraphrased by John F. Kennedy: "Don't ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up."

Now the left wants to legitimize disrespect for the flag and for Christianity. They want to ignore the rule of law at the border and silence protests against Islamic ideas that are antithetical to every good thing the west stands for. They should look to Europe where all that's been accomplished. And now, when European women are molested in the public square, the gormless authorities advise them to behave more modestly lest immigrants get the wrong idea. When Islamic knives come out and Islamic bombs go off, the police rush to harass ‐ who? Those who question the dictates of the Koran.

Iranian Regime Using Cyber Warfare Against Civilians to Preserve Theocracy
[Breitbart] Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reportedly engaged in a series of coordinated cyber warfare tactics to spy on, police, and arrest the Iranian people to secure its theocracy.

On Thursday, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) released a report titled, "Iran: Cyber Repression; How the IRGC Uses Cyberwarfare to Preserve the Theocracy." The report details how the IRGC’s Ministry of Intelligence allegedly creates apps that are downloaded by or unwittingly installed onto Iranians phones and then used as tools to spy on them.

Cyber repression also occurred during the 2018 uprising, which began on December 28 and continues to this day.

"Some 142 cities were engulfed in the demonstrations that took place against Khamenei, Rouhani, and the reformers," Alireza Jafarzadeh, NCRI’s deputy director said.

Olympics Ratings Fall To 2018 Low On 2nd Saturday; Steady With Sochi 2014
I believe a commenter nailed the cause. Perhaps we could call it the NFL Effect.

[Deadline Hollywood]

"Unfortunately, Team USA is also loaded with social justice warriors whose over-inflated sense of self-importance has thus far only been exceeded by their failure to excel in their chosen events. Lindsey Vonn is a prime example. When the participants go out of their way to intentionally alienate half their potential viewing audience, what did NBC expect would happen to the ratings?"

Sessions: FBI's Handling Of The Dossier ‘Will Be Investigated' (video)
[Daily Caller] Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Sunday that the Department of Justice is investigating whether the FBI submitted accurate information about the infamous Steele dossier in order to obtain a surveillance warrant against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
Remaining still for the photograph was probably no great challenge.
"Are you, sir, investigating the fact that the FBI used the dossier to get a wiretap against Trump associates and they did not tell the FISA court that the Democrats and Hillary Clinton paid for the dossier?" Maria Bartiromo, the host of Fox News’ "Sunday Morning Futures," asked Sessions.

"Let me tell you, every FISA warrant based on facts submitted to that court have to be accurate," he replied.
"That will be investigated and looked at, and we are not going to participate as a Department of Justice in providing anything less than a proper disclosure to the court before they issue a FISA warrant. Other than that, I’m not going to talk about the details of it, but I tell you, we’re not going to let that happen."

Sessions did not provide additional detail about the investigation, which has been urged by Republican lawmakers.

When Will We Have the Guts to Link Fatherlessness to School Shootings?
[PJ] Now that the gun control advocates have had their fifteen minutes of fame, let’s start focusing on the real issues impacting the rise in school shootings since that infamous day in Columbine in 1999. Issue number one that no one in the mainstream media or government wants to acknowledge: fatherlessness. Specifically, the impact of fatherlessness on the boys who grew up to become school shooters.

Dr. Warren Farrell, author of the new book The Boy Crisis, explains:
Minimal or no father involvement, whether due to divorce, death, or imprisonment, is common to Adam Lanza, Elliott Rodgers, Dylan Roof and Stephen Paddock.

In the case of 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, he was adopted at birth. His adoptive dad died when Nikolas was much younger, and doubtless the challenges of this fatherlessness was compounded by the death of his adoptive mom three and a half months ago.

The rate of mass shootings has tripled since 2011. We blame guns, violence in the media, violence in video games, and poor family values. Each is a plausible player. But our daughters live in the same homes, with the same access to the same guns, video games, and media, and are raised with the same family values. Our daughters are not killing. Our sons are.

But boys with significant father involvement are not doing these shootings. Without dads as role models, boys’ testosterone is not well channeled. The boy experiences a sense of purposelessness, a lack of boundary enforcement, rudderlessness, and often withdraws into video games and video porn. At worst, when boys’ testosterone is not well-channeled by an involved dad, boys become among the world’s most destructive forces. When boys’ testosterone is well channeled by an involved dad, boys become among the world’s most constructive forces.
As Terry Brennan, co-founder of Leading Women for Shared Parenting, notes:
72 percent of adolescent murderers grew up without fathers; the same for 60 percent of all rapists.

70 percent of juveniles in state institutions grew up in single- or no-parent situations

The number of single-parent households is a good predictor of violent crime in a community, while poverty rate is not.

Yet, despite the growing number of experts, pundits and commentators drawing attention to the impact of fatherlessness on school and community safety, the post-attack discussion inevitably reverts back to gun control. Instead of spending so much as fifteen minutes on fatherlessness we are forced to endure the same salacious headlines, the same provocative tweets, the same tired old memes about the evils of guns as if somehow a cold piece of metal convinced yet another boy to become a mass-murderer. We ignore the lack of adequate mental health services, the failure of law enforcement to effectively intercede, and the sickening impact fatherlessness has on each one of these tragic cases. Why? Because it is easier to ban a hunk of metal than it is to right systemic cultural wrongs.

Comedian Michael Ian Black took a lot of flak for blaming the rise in school shootings on the idea that "boys are broken." Yet, he was correct in stating that,
The last 50 years redefined womanhood: women were taught they can be anything. No commensurate movement for men who are still generally locked into the same rigid, outdated model of masculinity and it’s killing us. If you want to hurt a man, the first thing you do is attack his masculinity.

What is the primary way to attack a boy’s masculinity? Strip him of his primary male role model: his father. Over the past 50 years, we have taught women to embrace single motherhood and to cut fathers out of their children’s lives through divorce. Now, thanks to the gun control echo-chamber, it will probably take another 50 years to right the wrongs we've done to our fathers and our boys.

But suppose the father is an abusive alcoholic and slams the wife and kids around constantly? There is a father in the home but I'd say the kids might have trouble developing into healthy adults--not impossible but difficult.

China-Japan-Koreas
John Kelly involved in November scuffle with Chinese officials after nuclear football blocked from following Trump: Report
[WashingtonExaminer] Chinese security officers attempted to stop the American military aide carrying the nuclear football from following President Trump into the Great Hall of the People in Beijing in November.

Axios reported Sunday the decision set off a chain of events that led chief of staff John Kelly to intervene and get in a physical altercation with a Chinese security officer.

According to the report, Chinese officials blocked the military aide carrying the nuclear football from following Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping into the Great Hall. The aide is supposed to be near Trump at all times.

When made aware of the situation, Kelly intervened and told the aide to keep walking and entering the hall. One Chinese official grabbed Kelly and Kelly shoved the man’s hand back. A Secret Service agent then grabbed the Chinese official and tackled him to the ground.

The report indicates Trump’s team properly informed the Chinese about security procedures before the trip. The nuclear football, which contains the codes the president must give to order a nuclear strike, was never in Chinese possession.

The Chinese apologized to the Americans after the incident.

#2  ...This was bad enough, but don't read too much into it. Chinese security enjoys screwing with the roundeyes when they come to kowtow, and it was nothing personal. Since we pushed back, however, it's not likely to happen again with DJT. On the other hand they're probably going to find something else to do.

#3  More detail from Axios:

On Thursday Nov. 9, when President Trump and his team visited Beijing's Great Hall of the People, Chief of Staff John Kelly and a U.S. Secret Service agent skirmished with Chinese security officials over the nuclear football.

I've spoken to five sources familiar with the events. Here's what happened, as they describe it:

- When the U.S. military aide carrying the nuclear football entered the Great Hall, Chinese security officials blocked his entry. (The official who carries the nuclear football is supposed to stay close to the president at all times, along with a doctor.)

- A U.S. official hurried into the adjoining room and told Kelly what was happening. Kelly rushed over and told the U.S. officials to keep walking — "We're moving in," he said — and the Americans all started moving.

- Then there was a commotion. A Chinese security official grabbed Kelly, and Kelly shoved the man’s hand off of his body. Then a U.S. Secret Service agent grabbed the Chinese security official and tackled him to the ground.

The whole scuffle was over in a flash, and the U.S. officials told about the incident were asked to keep quiet about it. Trump's team followed the normal security procedure to brief the Chinese before their visit to Beijing, according to a person familiar with the trip — but somebody at the Chinese end either didn't get the memo or decided to mess with the Americans anyway.

I'm told that at no point did the Chinese have the nuclear football in their possession or even touch the briefcase. I'm also told the head of the Chinese security detail apologized to the Americans afterwards for the misunderstanding.

Three people injured in bomb blast near Baghdad street market
Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) ‐ Three civilians were maimed Sunday in a kaboom near a Baghdad market, a security source was quoted as saying.

Speaking to Alghad Press, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, "An explosive charge went off near a busy street market at al-Fallahat village in al-Tarmiyah, north of Baghdad."

"The kaboom left three people maimed," the source said, adding that the injured were moved to a nearby hospital for treatment, and security forces opened a probe into the incident.

Nigeria Frees 475 Boko Haram Suspects for Lack of Evidence
[AnNahar] Nigeria has freed another 475 Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
suspects following a series of mass trials in which most cases were dropped for lack of evidence, the justice ministry said Sunday.

Over the course of the week, hundreds of suspected Boko Haram bully boyz have appeared before a court at the Kainji military base in central Niger state.

The release order was issued on Friday, with the 475 suspects to be returned to their home states for "proper rehabilitation" before being sent back to their families, ministry front man Salihu Othman Isah said.

He said they had been jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
on grounds they either belonged to Boko Haram, or had concealed information about the group's plans or its members' whereabouts.

"However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
the Prosecution Counsel could not charge them with any offence due to lack of sufficient evidence against them. Therefore, the suspects were released."

Among those released was a maiden of tender years with a three-month-old baby from Borno State who was taken to a Boko Haram enclave by her brother and married off to his friend when she was 11. She was arrested in 2014 while trying to escape.

Also freed were two mechanics, identical twins who were arrested in Bauchi State in 2010 after servicing a vehicle at their workshop which belonged to a Boko Haram member.

Also Friday, the court imposed a second 15-year sentence on Haruna Yahaya, 35, who was involved in the 2014 kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls from Chibok.

Earlier in the week, he had been jugged
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
for 15 years but the court handed him an additional 15-year term, with the judge saying the two sentences would run consecutively.

- Years without trial -
In total, some 1,669 people have been processed in a string of mass hearings which began in October at four specially-constituted civilian courts inside the facility.

Most were men, but their number also included some women and kiddies, with Nigeria widely criticized for holding them and thousands of others for years without trial or even contact with a lawyer.

Before Friday's release of 475 suspects, 468 had been freed after it was found they had no case to answer; 45 were jugged
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
for between two and 15 years and 28 had their cases transferred to other jurisdictions.

A further 82 pleaded guilty in exchange for a lesser sentence or release, taking into account time served in jug. And others were freed after spending years behind bars.

The remaining cases have been delayed for another hearing.

What Kenya Has to Show for Sending Troops Into Somalia Seven Years Ago
[All Africa] On 16 October 2011, Kenyan troops crossed the border into Somalia. The official reason was that Kenya's national security was threatened by the Somalia-based Islamist militant group, Al-Shabaab. The terrorist group had in fact carried out a number of cross-border raids during the months preceding the operation.

There's still considerable disagreement about the reasons for Kenya's military action in October 2011.

More than six years after Nairobi made the drastic move, Kenyan troops are still in Somalia and Al-Shabaab is still considered a threat to Kenya. Numerous terrorist attacks have been carried out by the Somali group, including the deadly siege on the Westgate shopping mall in 2013.

There are a number of possible explanations as to why the Kenyan authorities made the decision to engage Al-Shabaab in Somalia. These range from trying to prop up the Kenyan army's image, to currying favour with the West, to making the north east of the country safer. Some strategies have proved more successful than others.

Jaish-e-Mohammad owns up Jammu Army camp attack, Masood Azhar hails jihadis
[Indian Express] Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
chief Maulana Masood Azhar
...One of the major players in Pak terrorism. In early 1994, India incarcerated him for his terrorist activities. In 1995, foreign tourists were kidnapped in Jammu and Kashmir. The kidnappers included the release of Masood Azhar among their demands. One of the hostages managed to escape but the rest were eventually killed. In 1999, he was freed by the Indian government in exchange for passengers on hijacked Indian Airlines Flight 814 that had been diverted to Kandahar. The hijackers were led by Masood Azhar's brother, Ibrahim Athar. Once he was handed over to the hijackers, they fled to Pak territory despite the fact that Islamabad had earlier stated that any of the hijackers would be jugged at the border. The Pak government had also previously indicated that Azhar would be allowed to return home since he did not face any charges there. Shortly after his release, he made a public address to an estimated 10,000 people in Karachi, firing up the rubes against America and India...
has written about the attack on the Sunjuwan military station in Jammu on February 10, in the latest issue of the outfit’s online mouthpiece, saying, "Only three mujahideen destroyed the Sunjuwan military camp. For three days, they withstood thousands of troops, special squads, helicopters and tanks. Entire India from head to toe panicked."

In another article in the issue, a Jaish leader says the attack was launched by "the Afzal Guru squad" of Jaish.

Azhar wrote about the attack in his weekly column ’Rang-u-Noor’, under his pen name Saidi, in the February 14 edition of Al Qalam. Though he didn’t take responsibility for the attack, he wrote that "the attack by these three fidayeens has carried forward the legacy of Khalid Bin Waleed" ‐ in a reference to the legendary military commander of the era during the advent of Islam.

The attack was carried out at the military station by three murderous Moslems in the wee hours of February 10, leaving five soldiers and a relative of a soldier dead. All the three Death Eaters, whom the Army identified as Pakistain nationals belonging to the JeM, were later bumped off.

"Fighting and defeating big armies with few men is truly one of the colours of the jihadi legacy of Khalid Bin Waleed,’’ Azhar wrote. "When I heard the details of the attack on the Sunjuwan military camp by Kashmiri mujahideen, I remembered Khalid Bin Waleed. Imagine, despite such a huge strength of the enemy, three mujahideen entered a military camp and fought for more than 50 hours, targeting the enemy posts. Is it any ordinary thing? There were miracles taking place. The Kashmiri leadership was saying that the number of mujaideen is only three. Next day India claimed that three mujahideen have been martyred, but the sounds of kabooms and firing were still coming from within the camp. With the help of media, the entire world was watching this miracle. If all the three were already martyred, who were fighting then? Whose fear made them take tanks inside the camp? Why were they (the Indian Army) blowing up their own buildings? India should reflect on this attack and they will understand that defeat is their destiny."

Clashes leave 27 dead as Yemen troops target Al-Qaeda

on Sunday, as the army launched an offensive against key outposts of the Death Eaters, a military official said.

General Faraj al-Bahsani, governor of Hadramawt province, told AFP the army had taken control of the Mesini Valley west of Mukalla, a central site for al-Qaeda in southeast of the country.

Mukalla was the most populated Yemeni city under direct al-Qaeda control from 2015 to 2016, when the army and its regional military allies seized control of the port city.

Special forces trained by the United Arab Emirates -- a key member of a Saudi-led alliance fighting alongside Yemen's government forces -- over the weekend launched the offensive, codenamed "Al-Faisal", against al-Qaeda cells in oil-rich Hadramawt province.

Two soldiers were killed on Saturday in the offensive, which targets the Mesini and Amed Valleys -- both in the vast province of Hadramawt and home to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Cult of personality: FBI ignores online ‘Columbiner culture’ glorifying mass shooters
[RT] The FBI’s failure to heed warnings about Florida mass shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz, who reportedly expressed the desire to attack a school online, suggests authorities overlooked a youth subculture obsessed with mass shootings.

The FBI received a tip-off after alarming comments from a user called ’Nikolas Cruz’ were posted under a Youtube video published by Ben Bennight in September 2017. "I want to be a professional school shooter," it read, Bennight recalls. The same user also reportedly commented under a video about another shooter, Elliot Rodger, who killed six and injured 14 near the University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Santa Barbara in 2014.

Under another video about a sniper shooting at the University of Texas in 1966, Cruz reportedly wrote: "I am going to [do] what he did." Bennight contacted the FBI in Mississippi to report the shooter comment, emailing a screenshot of the comment and phoning the agency. He also flagged it with Youtube, which removed the remark. He met with FBI agents and gave an interview at his office on September 25, but didn’t hear from them again until 30 minutes after Cruz was tossed in the clink
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
on Wednesday.

The FBI also failed to follow up on a call made to an agency tip line six weeks before the Parkland school attack. The tip-off was from someone who knew Cruz and reportedly detailed his "gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting."

Following the high school attack on Valentine’s Day, FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement that the bureau is looking into how it failed to address the threat and respond to information from the public. Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe headed for second base. He almost made it. Then Sheila slapped him....
as Florida reeled from the US’ most deadly school shooting, an online community that obsesses over and even fetishizes mass killers shared tasteless Valentines Day memes featuring known school shooters and mass murderers.

"Columbiners"
The online ’true crime community’ consists of people who pore over details of gruesome crimes and the lives of the perpetrators. A big subsection of this group, known as "Columbiners," are obsessed with the 1999 Columbine High School mass shooting and its perpetrators, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

Columbiners discuss the shooters and their crimes on forums, social media groups and Tumblr blogs dedicated to the pair. The community is made up of a mix of young people who appear drawn to the shooters on a personal level, and those intrigued by the case because of an interest in criminology and psychology.

While some posts seen by RT.com rail against the bullying experienced by Harris and Klebold, others appear infatuated by the teenagers, looking to them like a boyband crush, creating fan art and detailing romantic fantasies involving the killers.

Dylann Roof, who killed nine black churchgoers in South Carolina in 2015, and serial killer Ted Bundy also make an appearance on these blogs, often depicted in a positive and even revered way.

Columbine-inspired Halifax shooting foiled
Three years before the Valentine’s Day 2018 attack in Florida, police in Halifax, Canada foiled another attempted mass shooting planned for February 14 which was connected to the Columbiner subculture.

Lindsay Kanittha Souvannarath, Randall Steven Shepherd and James Gamble planned the attack at the Halifax shopping center in Canada. Gamble and Souvannarath reportedly posted an ad on Tumblr before their planned attack, and had an interest in the Columbine shooting. Souvannarath and Shepard were arrested at the airport before they could carry out the attack, and Gamble killed himself as his home was surrounded by police.

Gamble was also believed to be a fan of the Columbine killers. When asked by another Tumblr user whether he wore "boots like Dylan (Klebold)," he replied, "indeed I do," and posted a picture that showed him carrying a rifle and knife.

Although many Columbiners weren’t even born when the deadly school shooting took place, the events of that day have become something of a legend which attracts the attention of young people who glamorize and empathize with Harris and Klebold.

#5  IMO, mass murderers, if they are glorified, is among a relatively small whacko segment of society. It is surprising there are not more incidents considering the widespread exposure to violence. The value for life has been degraded by movies, games, TV and print media. There has been a constant hammering away at religious, moral, cultural, and family values that have often provided a check on behavior in the past. Some few in our society respond to these messages and act out on them.

Years ago, firearms were widely available without all the government restrictions. Mass murders were unknown or at least rare. So, it is not the availability of firearms that result in these mass murders. In addition to firearms, people have used box cutters and airplanes, rental trucks, sarin gas (Japan), cyanide (Jonestown), swords, pressure cookers and explosives to murder people. These things are generally considered one-off things. There is usually silence about control of of any of these items. But for some reason, firearms are considered differently.

Most people who own firearms are law-abiding, responsible, and sane people. I would say, that the obsessive and constant drumbeat for gun control or confiscation every time one these incidents occurs seems a bit unhinged and a little crazy. The call for gun control or gun confiscation happens before anything is really known about the individual(s) who perpetrated the crime.

Could it be that gun control and confiscation is not really about safety and security but about control of the populace? Suppose we did not have the second amendment, as often seems to be desired by many in our society? Suppose it did not exist; would this make us safer? Would this not open the door for tyranny? History would indicate that it would.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Five dead after church shooting in southern Russia, attacker killed
More on this story from yesterday.
[RT] Five people have been killed and several others injured in a gun attack on a crowd of churchgoers in Dagestan
...a formerly inoffensive Caucasus republic currently bedevilled by low-level Islamic insurgency, occasional outbreaks of separatism, ethnic tensions and terrorism, primarily due to its proximity to Chechnya. There are several dozen ethnic groups, most of which speak either Caucasian, Turkic, or Iranian languages. Largest among these ethnic groups are the Avar, Dargin, Kumyk, Lezgin, and Laks. While Russers form less than five percent of the population, Russian remains the primary official language and the lingua franca...
in southern Russia, local police confirmed. The shooter was killed by security forces.

The shooting happened in the city of Kizlyar, a scenic provincial capital in the Republic of Dagestan. The gunman opened fire with a hunting rifle at a group of people leaving a church ceremony dedicated to the end of the Russian folk festival of Maslenitsa, which marks the start of Lent for Russian Orthodox Christians.

An eyewitness to the shooting, Oksana, told RT it happened right in front of a Christian church. The gunman targeted people as they were leaving, but luckily many of the churchgoers managed to take cover inside the building, giving more time for the security guards to respond to the attack.

"There were a lot of people there, moms with little children, elderly people. I believe God saved us, not allowing the man to get inside the church," the woman said. She added the gunman was killed as he was attempting to flee the scene.

The corpse count of the attack has risen from four to five people after a woman, who was among those delivered to the hospital, "died on the operation table," the Dagestani Health Ministry told Interfax. "According to preliminary data, the condition of the two other (patients) is critical," it added.

The health ministry said five people were maimed in the shooting and hospitalized. The interior ministry announced two of whom were security personnel who responded to the shooting and bumped off the attacker.

The four fatalities on site were all civilian women leaving the church, according to law enforcement. Interfax also cites a source as saying that the gunman had a female accomplice who fled before the shooting started.

The Russian Investigative Committee says the gunman has been identified as a local resident in his early 20s.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, was "stunned" by the attack in Kizlyar and demanded the most thorough investigation of the incident, Patriarch’s front man, priest Aleksandr Volkov, wrote on Telegram.

"The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church considers this terrible crime, committed on the eve of the Great Lent, a provocation aimed at instigating confrontation between Orthodoxs and Moslems, who have been coexisting peacefully for ages in the Caucasus," the front man wrote.

Dagestan’s Moslem Spiritual Authority has called the shooting a "tragedy," saying that it condemns all manifestations of violence. "We express our most sincere condolences to the relatives of those who were killed or injured," the Muftiyat said in a statement.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Two European nationals ‘neutralized’ in Afrin, Syria
[AA.TR] Two nationals from European countries fighting as part of the terrorist group PYD/PKK have been "neutralized" during The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s Operation Olive Branch in Afrin, northwestern Syria, according to information available online on social media.

While Turkey’s operation in Syria continues, information on social media about some holy warriors "neutralized" by Ottoman Turkish army shows that some were European nationals.

According to this information, Spanish national Samuel Prada Leon, codenamed Baran Galicia, and French national Olivier Francois Jean Le Clainche, codenamed Kendal Breizh, were both "neutralized" last week in Afrin, the site of Turkey’s counter-terrorist Operation Olive Branch.

There are many foreign holy warriors from European countries as well as the U.S. fighting for the PYD/PKK.

While Western countries have worked to stem their citizens from going to join ISIS, they have showed much less concern about Westerners joining the PYD/PKK, while largely failing to recognize the PYD/PKK as a terrorist threat.

Separately, Dutch citizen Sjoerd Heeger -- codenamed Baran Sason -- was killed in Deir al-Zor, eastern Syria, close to the Iraqi border, during festivities with the Syrian army and Iranian forces, also according to social media.
Rudaw adds:
Clainche was born in Malestroit, Spain, in 1977. Leon was born in Ourense in 1993. Both died defending Afrin on February 10.

That was the deadliest day for Ottoman Turkish soldiers in their Operation Olive Branch, losing 11 soldiers and a helicopter.

Heeger was born in the Netherlands in 1993. He died on Monday in Deir ez-Zor.

North London Mosque opens to visitors
[AA.TR] Finsbury Park Mosque in North London opened its doors Sunday afternoon to members of the public as part of the annual Visit My Mosque event.

During the six-hour event, visitors were given a tour of the mosque, spoke to worshippers, enjoyed a free meal, and took part in a question-and-answer session with the mosque committee and its management.

Attendees included Moslem Council of Britannia head Harun Khan, local Labour MP Emily Thornberry, and the leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn.

"This year’s Visit My Mosque Day, held this Sunday 18 February, comes at a particularly sensitive time, being the first one since the attack last year. For the mosque this is an important opportunity to build upon the spirit of local solidarity and show that Finsbury Park Mosque is more than just a mosque," said Mohammed Kozbar, Finsbury’s chairman.

The Islamic center was the scene of a terrorist attack last year when Darren Osbourne drove a van into a nearby crowd of worshippers, killing one and injuring many.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Corbyn described today’s event as an "excellent open day at the mosque," adding: "I have been supporting and have been involved in this mosque for more than 30 years. I saw it being built and I have held advice bureaus here, and so having the open day bringing in the entire community of all faiths is great.

Syrian Army deploys entire artillery division of howitzers, field guns, mortars and Grad rocket launchers for east Damascus battle
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army has deployed an entire artillery division worth of fire support assets in preparation for a major offensive operation against bully boy groups in the East Ghouta region of Damascus.
Tactical Urban Renewal Program?
Among the vast array and great number of army fire support weapons that have arrived in Damascus (and continue to arrive) are medium and heavy howitzers (both self-propelled and towed), field guns, heavy mortars, Elephant rocket throwers and Grad rocket launchers.

Although all the artillery comes from different units of the Syrian Army, the sheer amount of it (which remains classified for now) and its concentration into a single operation is essential the equivalent of a Cold War-era Soviet artillery division used to support corps and army-level operations.

The deployment of such firepower is obvious ‐ the Syrian Army intends to completely pulverize bully boy defenses, using sheer support fire as a breakthrough method in and of its own right.

Saudi women to start own business without male permission
[AlAhram] Women in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
can now open their own businesses without the consent of a husband or male relative, as the kingdom pushes to expand a fast-growing private sector.

The policy change, announced by the Saudi government on Thursday, also marks a major step away from the strict guardianship system that has ruled the country for decades.

"Women can now launch their own businesses and benefit from (governmental) e-services without having to prove consent from a guardian," the ministry of commerce and investment said on its website.

Under Saudi Arabia's guardianship system, women are required to present proof of permission from a male "guardian" -- normally the husband, father or brother -- to do any government paperwork, travel or enrol in classes.

Long dependent on crude production for economic revenue, Saudi Arabia is pushing to expand the country's private sector, including an expansion of female employment under a reform plan for a post-oil era.

While women still face a host of restrictions in the ultraconservative Moslem kingdom, Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor's office this month said it would begin recruiting women Sherlocks for the first time.

The kingdom has also opened 140 positions for women at airports and border crossings, a historic first that the government said drew 107,000 female applicants.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as of 2016....
, the powerful heir to the Saudi throne, has been leading the drive to expand the role of women in the workforce in recent months.

His father, King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Lord of Most of the Arabians....
, in September approved the end of a decades-long ban on driving, which goes into effect in June.

The 32-year-old prince pledged a "moderate, open" Saudi Arabia in October, breaking with ultra-conservative holy mans in favour of an image catering to foreign investors and Saudi youth.

Prince Mohammed is widely seen as the chief architect behind Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030" reform programme, which seeks to elevate the percentage of women in the work force from 22 percent to nearly one-third.

Egypt's health ministry: Teenage FGM rate declined by 13% from 2008-2014
[AlAhram] According to a ministry statement, FGM among teenage girls fell 13 percent in six years due to government policies, new laws and raised awareness.

Egypt's Health Ministry said on Sunday that the rate of the female genital mutilation (FGM) among teenage girls from 15 to 17 years old fell from 74 percent in 2008 to 61 percent in 2014.

The Egyptian government criminalised FGM in 2008. In 2016, the House of Representatives passed amendments in the law criminalising FGM, designating the practice a felony and mandating stricter punishments for those convicted of performing the procedure.

A 2014 demographic and health survey showed that the FGM rate among females aged 15-49 in Egypt stood at 92 percent. More than 75 percent of cases were of girls aged nine to 12, while 14 percent were aged seven or younger.

Nevertheless, the ministry statement highlighted that the 2014 survey showed a decline in the FGM practice in the countryside, compared to past surveys in 2005 and 1998.

The first FGM conviction was in January 2015, seven years after the practice was criminalised, when a father and a doctor were convicted of the death of a 13-year-old girl who died during an FGM operation.

Others were prosecuted in similar cases later.

Turkish Army hurls another mechanized battalion at Kurdish forces in Afrin battle
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish Army has deployed tens more infantry fighting vehicles to the frontlines in Syria’s Afrin region as part of a reinforcement package aimed at bolster its hitting power against Kurdish forces.

Yesterday, photos emerged showing one of several new mechanized companies that the Ottoman Turkish Army is deploying to Afrin in a bid to offer more fire support to troops and allied proxy fighters currently battling Kurdish forces throughout the region.

The mechanized reinforcements are ACV-15 infantry fighting vehicles.
Wikipedia on the Turkish built ACV-15
In addition to severing as traditional battle-wagons for mechanized troops riding into battle, the semi-asymmetrical nature of the fighting in Afrin has also seen the armored vehicle be used as a standalone fire support weapon.

To this end, the 25-mm cannon on the ACV-15 offers exceptional hitting power against soft-targets and earth-based positions.

Although the Ottoman Turkish Army reinforcements are being deployed at battalion-level strength, they will likely be dispersed into separate infantry units when they finally enter combat.

The al-Qaeda-affiliated terror group operating in the Horn of Africa is said to have entered the Qarsa school in Wajir County through the porous Kenya-Somali border, some 175 kilometers (109 miles) from the town.

"We’re not sure what their motive was, but they attacked the school early in the morning, killing three teachers and wounding a couple of others, who are suffering from gunshot wounds," a police brass hat from the area told Anadolu Agency on the phone.

"The Death Eaters planted improvised explosives on the road leading to the school, making it hard for ambulances and our teams to reach the place faster," said the officer, who asked not to be named due to restrictions to speaking to the media.

Speaking to Kenya’s Daily Nation online, Wajir County police commander Mohammed Sheikh said: "I can confirm that one of our vehicles that was responding to the attack was partly hit by an IED that had been buried along the route by the group, but all our officers are in good condition."

Canada deports North Korean asylum seekers
[Al Jazeera] Despite its reputation as a haven for refugees, Canada has been deporting North Korean asylum seekers who came to the country through South Korea.

Nearly 2,000 have been kicked out of the country since 2013 because the government says they lied on their asylum application forms. Another 150 Koreans are under imminent threat of deportation.

Eleven years ago, Taegun Kim came to Canada with his wife, daughter and son. Now they have two more children, both Canadian citizens. A deportation would be catastrophic for the family.

"That notice means death to me," Kim told Al Jazeera. "I came all the way here for a better life and my family is well adjusted to life in Canada. To think we're going to be separated, it breaks my heart."

The Jo family could be broken up too if Canada carries out its deportation orders. Two children are Canadian-born; the eldest came with his parents in 2010.

The family admits they lied on their asylum application - saying they defected to China, not South Korea - to help ease the immigration process, but add they did it to escape a horrible situation.

"I feel so desperate. It's our fault," Hye Kyung Jo said. "They [the children] haven't done anything wrong. They have to go through this separation because of us."

#8  So they’re being sent back to South Korea? I thought South Korea had good support systems in place for those who fled the north. As for the threat to their relatives who remained behind, that has been so ever since the day they left. I can’t imagine the North Korean authorities never noticed they aren’t there anymore.

VIDEO: Iraqi forces deploy guided-missile combat drones to eliminate ISIS remnants
[ALMASDARNEWS] The aviation arm of the Iraqi Army is now deploying Chinese-built, Predator-like advanced combat drones to hunt down the remnants of Islamic State

forces across the country.

The combat drone, classified by its Chinese manufacturer as the CH-4B, is capable of operating at a height of 5,000 meters from where it can use laser-guided missiles and bombs loaded onto six hard-points near the wing-root.

Being equipped with advanced camera equipment, the drone can also serve in the reconnaissance role.

Given the limited reconnaissance-strike capability (i.e. the ability to constantly have warplanes in the air to track and attack targets as they are identified) of the Iraqi Air Force due to its size, the CH-4B of the Iraqi Army serves as a very helpful auxiliary fire support asset in direct assistance of troops on the ground and as a stand-off weapon.

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) ‐ A well-placed military official has uncovered an Iraqi plan to tighten security measures on the country’s borders with all neighboring countries, particularly with Syria, to foil any possible infiltration attempt by Islamic State

(IS) remnants.

Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces Lieutenant-General Abdul Ameer Rasheed Yarallah told the semi-official al-Sabah newspaper on Sunday that the Iraqi government had spent a huge amount of funds to install surveillance cameras on Iraq’s borderline with neighboring countries to spot the Islamic State bully boyz seeking infiltration into Iraq again following the group’s defeat at the hands of Iraqi soldiers earlier in December.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
Yarallah warned that the Islamic State group still "has sleeper cells in Iraq, making the war against its remnants take more time to eradicate them completely."

US said to only want European ‘commitment’ to improve Iran nuclear deal
[IsraelTimes] In cable, State Department reportedly urges Britannia, La Belle France and Germany to agree on weaknesses of accord that must be fixed.

Taking a softer stance than US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on the Iran nuclear deal, the State Department is seeking an agreement with three European nations over which weaknesses in the accord must be improved, Rooters reported Sunday.
Somebody doesn’t understand the good cop/bad cop process.
"We are asking for your commitment that we should work together to seek a supplemental or follow-on agreement that addresses Iran’s development or testing long-range missiles, ensures strong IAEA inspections, and fixes the flaws of the ’sunset clause,'" the message from the State Department reads.

In January, Trump signed a waiver to keep the deal alive, but vowed it would be the last time he did so, unless the US and Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
worked to strengthen it.
And now the diplomatic arm of the American government is asking for exactly that. Honestly, these people have the long term memory of a gnat.

Syrian Army general for Deir Ezzor killed by ISIS in deadly ambush
[ALMASDARNEWS] A leading commander in the Syrian Arab Army who was responsible for military intelligence in the Deir Ezzor region has been killed in an ambush carried out by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. forces.

On Saturday (likely in the afternoon), Syrian Army Brigadier General Jamal Razuk was killed in east Syria by Islamic State faceless myrmidons who ambushed (so reports say) his vehicle somewhere along the highway running from Deir Ezzor city to Palmyra.

Initial reports stated that the Syrian Amy general was killed in a traffic accident; however, not long after these reports, ISIS took credit for his death via the pro-Islamic State media outlet Amaq.

Brigadier General Razuk was the chief of military intelligence for the Syrian Army in the Deir Ezzor region.

The ambush that killed him likely originated from a vast section of ISIS-held desert countryside (several thousand square kilometers in size) just south of the highway running from Palmyra to Deir Ezzor.

The Grand Turk
Turkish crackdown
[DAWN] EVER since the failed coup in 2016 in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
, the AKP-led government in Ankara has hardened its attitude towards all sorts of dissent. While governments have a duty to guard against any unconstitutional takeovers of the state, they must not use this as a cover to smother all opposition. Unfortunately, developments in Turkey are taking a very authoritarian turn. On Friday, six journalists were handed life sentences for "aiding plotters" of the coup. The sentences came even though in one of the cases Turkey’s constitutional court had ruled that the detention of the accused amounted to a violation of his rights. In the period since the coup, the Ottoman Turkish state has led a sweeping crackdown against all those even suspected of harbouring sympathies for exiled holy man Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, whom the state accuses of orchestrating the failed putsch. Mr Gulen has denied any role. According to reports, more than 50,000 people have been tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
while around 150,000 have been sacked or suspended, including government servants, teachers and others.

But it is not just Gulenists
... the Turkish version of the Boogie Man, who set fire to the Turkish Reichsstag...
that the Ottoman Turkish state is rounding up. Last month the authorities detained several doctors, members of the Ottoman Turkish Medical Association. The medics were rounded up for criticising Ankara’s incursion inside Syria to battle Kurdish militias active in the Arab country. President Erdogan termed the doctors "terrorist lovers" for daring to criticise the military operation. In a related development, over 300 people have been held for opposing Turkey’s Syrian incursion, including those who made comments on social media, accused of spreading "terror propaganda". All these arrests reflect that in Turkey, there is shrinking space for dissent. Without doubt Turkey faces many threats; the attempted coup was a very real challenge to the authority of an elected government. Moreover, a bloody war is raging next door in Syria, while a low-level Kurdish insurgency continues inside Turkey. But while the country may be located in a rough neighbourhood and is facing internal issues, all challenges must be confronted while safeguarding democratic rights, chiefly freedom of speech. Parties and individuals must be free to criticise the actions of the Ottoman Turkish state; if the government feels the criticism is misplaced, it must engage its critics in debate instead of jailing them or terming them ’traitors’. Turkey has had a long history of military intervention and its transition to democracy has been achieved after many sacrifices. Therefore, Ankara must guard democratic values and resist the allure of authoritarianism.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US still unsure who directed Syria attack, despite Russian deaths
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United States is still unsure who directed a Feb. 7 attack on U.S. and U.S.-backed forces in Syria, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Saturday, even as he acknowledged accounts that Russian civilian contractors were involved.

Rooters has reported that about 300 men working for a Kremlin-linked Russian private military firm were either killed or injured in Syria.

The U.S. has estimated about 100 pro-Syrian government forces were killed by U.S. strikes to repel the Feb. 7 attack.

Russian military officers told the United States during the incident that Moscow was not involved. The Pentagon has declined to comment on the exact makeup of the attacking forces and Mattis appeared at a loss to explain the incident 10 days later.

"I still cannot give you any more information on why they would do this. But they took direction from someone," Mattis told news hounds flying back to Washington with him from a trip to Europe, according to a Pentagon transcript.

"Was it local direction? Was it from external sources? Don't ask me. I don't know."

Mattis said he "understood" that Moscow had acknowledged contractors were involved, without elaborating on whether that understanding came from press reports. Russian officials have told news hounds that five Russian citizens may have been killed in festivities with U.S.-led coalition forces.

Still, Russian officials deny they deploy private military contractors in Syria, saying Moscow's only military presence is a campaign of air strikes, a naval base, military instructors training Syrian forces, and limited numbers of special forces troops.

But according to people familiar with the deployment, Russia is using large numbers of the contractors in Syria because that allows Moscow to put more boots on the ground without risking regular soldiers whose deaths have to be accounted for.

The contractors, mostly ex-military, carry out missions assigned to them by the Russian military, the people familiar with the deployment said. Most are Russian citizens, though some have Ukrainian and Serbian passports.

The United States and Russia, while backing opposite sides in the Syria conflict, have taken pains to make sure that their forces do not accidentally collide. But the presence of the Russian contractors adds an element of unpredictability.

The U.S. military has said that in its effort to repel the attack on Feb. 7, U.S. forces on the ground called in coalition strikes for more than three hours, involving F-15E fighter jets, MQ-9 drones, B-52 bombers, AC-130 gunships and AH-64 Apache helicopters.

The U.S. military has said the attacking forces were aligned with the Syrian government and were backed by artillery, tanks, multiple-launch rocket systems and mortars.

"I doubt that 257 people all just decided on their individual own selves to suddenly cross the river into enemy territory and start shelling a location and maneuvering tanks against it," Mattis said.

"So whatever happened, we'll try to figure it out. We'll work with, obviously, anyone who can answer that question, but I cannot, at this time."

Islamic Jihad plot to bomb Lieberman convoy foiled

Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror cell that was planning to plant a bomb on a road Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s convoy was set to travel on, it was cleared for publication Sunday morning.

This is the second time in recent years that the Shin Bet has uncovered a plot to kill Lieberman, who lives in the Nokdim settlement in Gush Etzion. Last time was during Operation Protective Edge, when Lieberman was the foreign minister and Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", sought to target his convoy.

The Islamic Jihad cell members were aware of past failed attempt

they were apparently deterred by the heavy security surrounding Lieberman.

Another terror cell was operating in the Bethlehem area was also broken up in joint operation conducted by the Shin Bet, the IDF and the Israel Police. The cell was planning to carry out shooting attack against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians in the Gush Etzion area. Overall, six holy warriors were arrested.

One of the holy warriors arrested, Awad Mahmoud Awad al-Asakra, 25, from the Rafidia neighborhood of Bethlehem, is an Islamic Jihad member who was placed under administrative detention for two years between 2015 and 2017 for plotting to carry out an attack.

Another suspect, Mohammed Ali Ibrahim al-Asakra, 32, also from Rafidia, was imprisoned by Israel twice in the past for his activity in Islamic Jihad and his involvement in preparing an bomb and planning an attack against IDF forces.

The Shin Bet's investigation found that the cell purchased explosives to prepare the bomb and approached terror elements in the Gazoo Strip for funding.

When they failed to secure the funding, they decided to prepare a dummy bomb in an effort to get money and recognition, so they could carry out even more attacks. The dummy bomb was seized when they were arrested.

The investigation also revealed one of the cell members wanted to be arrested so he could receive a prisoner's salary from Islamic Jihad.

Overall, six holy warriors were arrested. The suspects will be indicted Sunday at the Judea Military Court.

The IDF attacked 18 terror targets in the Gazoo Strip overnight Saturday, just hours after the Israeli Air Force attacked six Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, targets all across the Gazoo Strip, including an offensive tunnel running from the Zaytun neighborhood in Gazoo towards Israel.

Returning fire, a rocket launched from the strip landed on the roof of a residence in the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council. The family was home, but no one was harmed as the rocket failed to explode.

The rocket was launched mere hours after four IDF soldiers were maimed‐two seriously and two moderately‐when an bomb detonated near the border fence. The IDF responded to the rocket's launch by again attacking a Hamas outpost in northern Gazoo.

Amos, whose home was hit while he, his wife and their three children were home, said, "A huge miracle happened to us. Fortunately, our house's roof is heavily cemented and so the rocket couldn't get through."

Later Saturday, A group of at least four Paleostinians attempted to infiltrate the Israeli communities south of Gazoo through Rafah. IDF forces picked up on the attempt and opened fire on the infiltrators using tanks and other means. Paleostinian reports said two Paleostinians were maimed by tank fire and were taken to a hospital.

Egypt has been appealing to both sides to prevent further escalation. Hamas's leadership notified Egypt on a visit to Cairo it had no interest in escalation in the strip, as per a Paleostinian source in Gazoo.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said Hamas terror targets were hit in Gazoo, including a military complex on the former grounds of the evacuated Netzarim settlement "belonging to Hamas's unique military alignments, including weapons manufacturing sites." A Hamas military complex near Khan Yunis was also attacked.

Hamas responded to the IDF's attacks by saying Israel will be held responsible for the escalation in Gazoo, and then later claimed to have targeted the air force's planes with antiaircraft fire‐the first time Hamas admitted to targeting the army since Operation Protective Edge.

The air force reportedly attacked Hamas outposts in eastern Gazoo, as well as a rocket launch nook or an armament storage facility not far from the Karni crossing. Attacks have not yet targeted Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
. An IDF tank fired at an observation post in the southern strip earlier.

A situation assessment was held Saturday evening following the kaboom with the participation of Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, GOC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, Air Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Amikam Norkin and other IDF top brass.

"We consider any point in which a flag, bag or rock is is placed to be suspicious," the army said, adding, "This is an extremely serious terror incident that may destabilize the region. The device, which included a pipe and was part of a flag, was place on the Paleostinian side of the fence with the kaboom's main casualties coming from a Combat Engineering bomb removal squad, who seemed to have protection.

"The device belonged to rogue organizations and not Islamic Jihad. Hamas is responsible for the incident because it brought protesters to these 'spontaneous' demonstrations during the past few weeks, which are then utilized for terror."

The IDF noted a growing trend of escalation in the protests organized by Hamas near the border fence, which have included use of weapons such as frag grenades. The demonstrations were "unacceptable manipulations," as per the army.
A subsequent Ynet article adds:
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Sunday that the Popular Resistance Committees organization was behind the bomb set off near an IDF force on Saturday on the Gazoo border, which left four soldiers maimed.

"Until we eliminate them, the score remains unsettled. It will take two days, a week, or two weeks. We'll eliminate anyone behind the attack's execution," Lieberman told Ynet on Sunday morning.

Speaking about Israel's retaliatory moves in Gazoo, the defense minister said, "We hit 18 terror targets, 18 quality targets, almost all of which belong to Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,. This is perhaps the most significant and widespread strike we carried out since Operation Protective Edge. Hamas is the ruler, and we consider Hamas to be responsible for everything that is done in the Gazoo Strip and from the Gazoo Strip."

Palestinian teenagers killed in Israeli air raids
More on the four Gazans who tried to infiltrate via Rafah:
[Al Jazeera] Two Paleostinian teenagers were found killed in the southern area of the besieged Gazoo Strip, following two waves of Israeli air raids.

The two bodies of the two 17-year-old boys were retrieved in the city of Rafah on Sunday morning, Ashraf al-Qudra, front man for Gazoo's health ministry, confirmed.

At least two other Paleostinians have been maimed, one of whom is at death's door, and are currently treated in a medical facility in Rafah.

The official Paleostinian news agency WAFA reported that missiles launched from an Israeli F-16 attack aircraft damaged several civilian homes.
Added just before the midnight rollover:
After mere hours of quiet, rocket fired at Israel from Gaza
Islamic Jihad are idiots who need to get the last word.
[Ynet] A Code Red alert sounded Sunday evening in Sderot and several towns in the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council after rocket fire from the Gazoo Strip was spotted, only hours after an earlier rocket landed on the roof of a residence of the region.

The rocket went kaboom! in an open area in the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council. There were no casualties and no damage was done.
Congrats, guys — you managed to hit the country you were aiming at, for a change.

#3  Cut off their power

Egypt cut them off about the time they started the operation in the Sinai, so they’re depending entirely on Israel... and the PA footing the bill.

German 'Islamic State' bride sentenced to 6 years in prison
[DW] A court in Iraq has sentenced German teenager Linda W.
...that would be Saxon lass Linda Wenzel, who forged her mother’s signature at the age of 15 to run off to her Chechen on-line sweetheart, then amused herself in Mosul as a member of al-Khansaa Brigade, ISIS' female morality police. This allowed her to drive, carry a gun, and whip grown women over their clothing choices...
to six years in prison for her involvement with "Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
" (IS) jihadis, German media reported on Sunday.

Citing judicial sources in Baghdad, broadcasters NDR, WDR and the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported that the 17-year-old was given five years for being a member of IS, as well as an extra year for entering Iraq illegally.

The trial took place before a juvenile court in the Iraqi capital and was not open to the public, the reports said. The verdict could not immediately be independently verified by authorities in Germany.

Linda W., a student from the eastern German town of Pulsnitz, bravely ran away from home in mid-2016 after talking to forces of Evil online and converting to Islam. According to her own account, she made her way to Iraq via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
and Syria, and married an IS fighter from Chechnya.

Linda W. was locked away

last summer, when government troops drove the holy warrior group out of the northern city. She was then transferred to a Baghdad prison.

In a televised interview recorded soon after her arrest, the young German said she regretted joining the Islamist militia.

"I want to go home to my family," she said. "I want to get out of the war, away from the weapons, the noise. I don't know how I came up with such a dumb idea. I've completely ruined my life."
"Could it be that yer stoopid?"
"No, no. That can't be it. Still..."

Or taqqiya, always an option in these situations.

Car bomb in Syria’s Qamishli kills five people - state media
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A boom-mobile went kaboom! in the Kurdish-dominated city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria on Sunday, killing five people and injuring seven, Syrian state news agency (SANA) said, citing a source in the police headquarters of Hasakeh province.

The kaboom targeted al-Hay al-Gharbi in the city, SANA reported.

The Kurdish YPG militia controls swathes of northeastern Syria including most of Hasakeh province where Qamishli is located.

It was not immediately clear what the kaboom targeted in the Qamishli, which is in the northern rural area of Hasakeh.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia based war monitor, said the last kaboom to target the city was in September, when a cycle of violence went kaboom! near the financial administration, killing a child and injuring several other people.

Africa Subsaharan
How Grace Got Her 'Fake' PhD
[All Africa] University of Zim-bob-we (UZ) vice-chancellor Levi Nyagura allegedly took the institution's lecturers to Grace Mugabe's Mazowe orphanage so she could take oral examinations for her disputed Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, a Harare court heard yesterday.

Nyagura (72) was tossed in the calaboose
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
on Friday for alleged criminal abuse of office for his role in the awarding of the degree to the former first lady.

Harare magistrate Tilda Mazhande was told Nyagura single-handedly accepted the wife of former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
's application to study for the PhD without the knowledge of the UZ's sociology department.

Prosecutor Oscar Madhume said in 2011 Nyagura approved Ntombizodwa G Marufu (Grace's maiden name) application without the knowledge and recommendations of the departmental board and faculty of higher degrees committee in violation of UZ quality assurance guidelines and benchmark.

He said during the same period, Nyagura appointed Professor Claude Mararike and Professor Chaneta to supervise Grace without the knowledge and approval of the department.

Nyagura is accused of usurping the powers of the UZ senate by single-handedly appointing examiners for Mugabe's research in violation of the UZ Act chapter 25:16 and Ordinance 1998/99.

Nyagura allegedly led supervisors and examiners to Mugabe's Mazowe orphanage, where the defence oral examination was purportedly done without the knowledge and approval of the academic committee while in actual fact the examination is supposed to be done at the UZ premises.

The prosecution alleged that during the same year, Nyagura recommended to Mugabe that Grace should be awarded the PhD.

This was allegedly done without the knowledge of the UZ council and academic committee.

The sociology department distanced itself from both the candidate and awarding of the degree as it was done without their knowledge. Prosecutors said Grace did not meet the minimum requirements to study for the degree.

Nyagura, who is represented by advocate Lewis Uriri, pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to the charges and was remanded to March 5 on $200 bail.

As part of his bail conditions, Nyagura was ordered not to interfere with State witnesses who include lecturers.
