IDF cyber warriors thwart major aviation terror attack
[Jpost] Soldiers in the IDF’s Unit 8200 thwarted a major Islamic State terror attack this past summer which aimed to bring down a civilian airliner headed from the Australian city of Sydney to Abu Dhabi, the army has revealed.

In cooperation with Israel’s intelligence community, soldiers provided exclusive intelligence that they had gathered on an attack that was being planned. This information led to the arrest of the suspects, even as they were in a very advanced stage in executing their terror plot, the army said.
More:
The ISIS-inspired attack against an Etihad Airways flight originating in the Australian city of Sydney to Abu Dhabi was thwarted by Australian officials in July. Four men were arrested in Sydney suburbs for planning two separate attacks. One of the attacks involved planting an improvised explosive device on an unwitting “mule,” who would carry the device on board the plane where it would be detonated in the air.

Local press at the time quoted Australian police as stating that one suspect planned to plant military-grade explosives that had been sent by a senior ISIS operative through international air cargo to the suspects in Australia.

For that plot, the New South Wales Joint Counter Terrorism Team charged 49-year-old Khaled Mahmoud Khayat and 32-year-old Mahmoud Khayat with two counts each of acts in preparation for a terrorist act.

#2  My thoughts exactly SP. Example, the Texas "draw moohamhead contest" (Curtis Culwell Center attack) muslim terrorist shooting.

Days before an ISIS sympathizer attacked a cartoon contest in Garland, Texas, he received a text from an undercover FBI agent.

“Tear up Texas,” the FBI agent messaged Elton Simpson (convert?) days before he opened fire at the Draw Muhammad event, according to an affidavit filed in federal court Thursday.

“U know what happened in Paris,” Simpson responded. “So that goes without saying… No need to be direct.” If you’re wondering what happened to the FBI’s undercover agent, he fled the scene but was stopped at gunpoint by Garland police.

Never investigated and who was the agent and his supervisor? Well guess what Burgs, his name is Eric Jackson. FBI Director James B. Comey (leader of agency's sedation) has named Eric Jackson as the special agent in charge of the Dallas Division.

Figures, he's a Comey teat feeder.

And there was, is no investigation of the FBI's direct involvement in this, an Islamic terrorist attack conservative anti-jihad shooting.

Turns out that Minneapolis FBI head, Richard Thornton (Somaliland circus narrator) was another Comey boy. You just can't make this shit up...

Road-rage suspect busted after shoving woman to ground
[NYP] A New Hampshire man is facing assault charges after being caught on camera shoving a female driver into a snow pile in an apparent case of road rage ‐ but the man claims he was merely acting in self-defense.

Ricardo Montanez, 28, of Hudson, was arrested Tuesday and charged with simple assault following the incident at Amherst Street and Henri Bourque Highway in Nashua on Sunday, police said.

"Upon initial investigation it was determined that a minor accident occurred after a brief road rage incident involving the two vehicles at the scene," Lt. Carlos Camacho wrote in a news release obtained by The Post. "Officers spoke to all parties involved and to witnesses. A witness was able to record the altercation between the two drivers and showed the video to the investigating officer."

Montanez can be seen on the video forcefully pushing the unidentified woman with two hands, knocking her onto a snow-covered median.

Dust storm blankets Australian town in orange
[BBC] An Australian town has been hit by a dust storm that covered the outback community in orange dust.

The storm swept through Charleville in south-west Queensland on Tuesday, knocking down trees and causing minor damage.

The scene prompted many residents to post photos and videos on social media.

Authorities said recent weather conditions had allowed strong winds to pick and spread dirt from the region.

"We do see a fair few dust events through the western parts of Queensland because it is such a dry and hot place, but it's definitely one of the more impressive events of the last few years," said Harry Clark, from Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

He estimated the dust storm was about 200km (124 miles) wide. It recorded winds of up to 96km/h (60pmh), while visibility at the local airport was reduced to about 200m.

State Department says NKorea passed up meeting with Pence
WASHINGTON (AP) ‐ Vice President Mike Pence was all set to hold a history-making meeting with North Korean officials during the Winter Olympics in South Korea, but Kim Jong Un’s government canceled at the last minute, the Trump administration said Tuesday.

A potential meeting between Pence and the North Koreans had been the most highly anticipated moment of the vice president’s visit to Pyeongchang, South Korea, where he led the U.S delegation to the opening ceremonies. Ahead of Pence’s visit, Trump officials had insisted they’d requested no meeting with North Korea, but notably left open the possibility one could occur.

There was no indication that a meeting had indeed been planned ‐ and then canceled on short notice ‐ until Tuesday, more than a week after Pence returned to the United States. The State Department said that Pence had been "ready to take this opportunity" but would have used it to insist Pyongyang abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

"At the last minute, DPRK officials decided not to go forward with the meeting," said State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert, using an acronym for the North’s formal name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. "We regret their failure to seize this opportunity."

That seemed to contradict North Korea’s own claim that it had no interest in meeting with Pence while he was in Pyeongchang.

Racial Profiling and Police Brutality Against Hispanics
[ThoughtCo] Police brutality is hardly just a black issue, as Hispanics all over the country increasingly face police abuse, racial profiling, and hate crimes. Often this misconduct stems from xenophobia and rising concerns about undocumented immigrants.

Across the nation, police departments have made headlines for their mistreatment of Latinos. These cases have not only involved undocumented immigrants but also Hispanic Americans and permanent legal residents.

In states as varied as Connecticut, California, and Arizona, Latinos have suffered at the hands of police in egregious manners.

Latinos Targeted in Maricopa County
Racial profiling. Unlawful detainment. Stalking. These are some of the inappropriate and illegal behaviors that officers in Arizona have allegedly engaged in, according to a 2012 complaint the U.S. Justice Department filed against the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. MCSO deputies stopped Latino drivers anywhere from four to nine times more than other drivers, in some cases only to detain them for long periods. In one instance, deputies pulled over a car with four Latino men inside. The driver hadn’t violated any traffic laws, but the officers proceeded to force him and his passengers out of the car and make them wait on the curb, zip-tied, for an hour.

The Justice Department also detailed incidents where the authorities followed Hispanic women to their homes and roughed them up.

The federal government alleges that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio routinely failed to investigate cases of sexual assault against Hispanic women.

The aforementioned cases refer to police interaction with Latinos on the streets of Maricopa County, but inmates in the county jail have also suffered at the hands of law enforcement.

Female prisoners have been denied feminine hygiene products and called derogatory names. Hispanic male inmates have been on the receiving end of racial slurs and put-downs such as "wetbacks" and "stupid Mexicans."
Cruz, Cruz, Cruz.... where have I heard that Latino sounding name before ?

Minorities are disproportionately represented in crime statistics because they COMMIT a disproportionate number of crimes. And yes, after decades of that a certain number of the justice system members have a somewhat jaundiced view of some of these folks, but not to the level of bias that is alleged. Fix fatherless families and welfare dependency to end this cycle by reintroducing the ideas of shame and self-reliance to our society!

Nikolas de Jesús Cruz and the PC 'Broward County Solution'
[American Thinker] "We're not compromising school safety. We're really saving the lives of kids," boasted Michaelle Valbrun-Pope, executive director of Student Support Initiatives for Broward County Public Schools, in August 2017.

Valbrun-Pope was referring to what an article by Jeffrey Benzing in Public Source calls the "Broward County Solution." As Benzing relates, Broward County used to lead the state of Florida in sending students to the state's juvenile justice system. County leaders responded with a perfectly progressive solution: "lower arrests by not making arrests."

Authorities agreed to treat twelve different misdemeanor offenses as school-related issues, not criminal ones. The results impressed the people who initiated the program. Arrests dropped from more than a thousand in 2011-2012 to less than four hundred just four years later.

One particular motivation behind programs like Broward County's was the pressure from multiple sources to reduce the statistical disparity between black and Hispanic student arrests on one hand and white and Asian student arrests on the other. Benzing writes, for instance, how a Denver organization called "Padres & Jóvenes Unidos" successfully advocated for a program like Broward's to help achieve "racial and education equity" in Denver schools.

By virtue of his name alone, Nikolas de Jesús Cruz, the adopted son of Lynda and Roger Cruz, became a statistical Hispanic. As such, authorities at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland had every reason not to report his troubling and likely criminal behavior to the police.
And when reported to police, the police had every reason to......

John Brennan butt hurt over POTUS 'Tougher on Russians' comment
[Wash Times] Former CIA Director John Brennan slammed President Trump Tuesday for asserting that he was tougher than former President Barack Obama on Russia.

"It never ceases to amaze me how successful you have been making yourself so small, petty, and banal with your tweets," Mr. Brennan told the president on Twitter. "Your insecurity is well deserved, as is your concern over Russia investigation."

The ex-CIA chief concluded, "Thomas Paine was right when he said, "These are the times that try men’s souls."

He was responding to Mr. Trump’s tweet earlier Tuesday in which the president said, "I have been much tougher on Russia than Obama, just look at the facts. Total Fake News!"

Mr. Brennan led the CIA from 2013 to January 2017, when Mr. Trump became president. Mr. Trump has stepped up his comments online about Russia since special counsel Robert Mueller won indictments on Friday against 13 Russian individuals and three Russian groups for meddling in the 2016 election.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly questioned why the Obama administration didn’t do more to stop the election interference.

Congressional Investigators Struggling To Find Alleged Dossier Source
[Daily Caller] Congressional investigators are struggling to track down an alleged source for some of the most salacious claims made in the Steele dossier.

Congressional committees investigating Russian interference in the presidential campaign have tried for months to track down Sergei Millian, a Belarus-born translator who serves as chairman for a small trade group called the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce, ABC News reported.

Millian was identified by The Wall Street Journal, ABC News and The Washington Post in 2017 as the unwitting source for some of the dossier’s most jarring and unverified allegations, including that the Kremlin is blackmailing President Donald Trump and that members of the campaign coordinated with Russian operatives.

Millian is reportedly referred to as "Source D" and "Source E" ‐ and described as a "close associate of Trump" ‐ in the dossier, which was written by former British spy Christopher Steele.

GOP Rep Introduces Legislation to Revoke Citizenship From MS-13 Gang Members
[Free Beacon] Rep. Lee Zeldin (R., N.Y.) on Tuesday introduced legislation to revoke the citizenship of naturalized immigrants who are involved in gang-related crimes.

The Protecting Our Communities from Gang Violence Act would allow the U.S. government to revoke the citizenship of individuals who came to the country as immigrants and got involved in gang activity either prior to or within 10 years of becoming a naturalized citizen. The act seems to be the direct result of an increase in the numbers of crimes being committed by MS-13 gang members in Zeldin's congressional district and the state of New York as a whole.

"From the vicious machete attack of four young men in Central Islip, to the childhood best friends brutally murdered by MS-13 in Brentwood, our community has witnessed the indiscriminate brutality of gang violence firsthand," Zeldin said in a statement. "Every level of government has a role to play in combating the rise of MS-13 and other gangs, and we must crack down on the aspects of our nation’s broken immigration system and other policies that have allowed MS-13 and other gangs to take hold in our communities and stay there."

FBI Might Avoid Turning Over Documents in Texas Attack Lawsuit
[Free Beacon] A lawsuit against the FBI for its role in a 2015 terror attack in Texas has taken a detour over discovery issues.

Bruce Joiner, a security guard shot in the leg by two radicalized Islamists at a "Draw Muhammad" event in the North Dallas suburb of Garland in May of that year, learned months later that an FBI agent had been undercover in the terrorist cell that executed the attack. The agent had texted one of the assailants to "Tear up Texas" a few days before the attack, and was also in a separate vehicle directly behind the two terrorists taking pictures of them just seconds before they opened fire at a perimeter parking checkpoint.

The undercover agent, described in court documents as being dressed in Middle Eastern attire, tried to flee the scene when the shooting began but was stopped by local police.

Attorneys for the FBI asked for a dismissal in recent federal court filings, but have taken the extra step of asking the court to delay all discovery until the court rules on the dismissal motion.

Joiner is suing the FBI for liability and is asking for just over $8 million in damages, but has maintained in other media interviews and also through his attorney that he is bringing the suit primarily to get to the bottom of the FBI's involvement leading up to the attack.

If discovery is halted, and should the case later be dismissed, Joiner would leave the case empty handed, no closer to understanding why an FBI agent who had contacts with the attackers was so close when the gunfire started but did nothing to prevent the attack and instead tried to flee.

Texas "draw moohamhead contest" (Curtis Culwell Center attack) muslim terrorist shooting.

Unfortunately there was no taxpayer pension saving lethal action.

Never investigated and who was the agent and his supervisor? Well guess what Burgs, his name is Eric Jackson. FBI Director James B. Comey (leader of agency's 7th floor sedation division) has named Eric Jackson as the special agent in charge of the Dallas Division.

Butler County Update: 250 Teachers Sign Up for 50 Seats at Concealed Carry Tng Session
[Breitbart] Butler County, Ohio, Sheriff Richard K. Jones offered free concealed carry training for 50 teachers and 250 teachers responded within 24 hours.

Breitbart News reported that Jones began advertising the free training on Sunday and the immediate response was 50 emails within 20 minutes:

On February 20 Fox 91 reported the response had jumped to 250 teachers who wanted training. Jones reveled in the opportunity to instruct them, saying, "We have 250 and growing fast. We will start training fast, next week."

He stressed that he wants teachers to understand what they can do with a gun if an armed attacker enters the classroom. And while he cannot delegate the authority for teachers to carry on a given campus‐that is a school board decision‐Jones said he wants the teachers to be ready if their school board so chooses.

He said, "If the school boards want to give the authority to teachers to be armed...[they] can do that, they have the authority to do it, but I’m going to do my part, and I assume I’m probably the only one in the state of Ohio that’s doing that ‐ but something has to happen."

Egypt places opposition figure Abul-Fotouh on terrorism list
[AlAhram] A Cairo criminal court has put opposition figure and former Islamist presidential candidate Abdel-Moneim Abul Fotouh and 15 others on its terrorist list for alleged ties to the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund group, Egypt's state news agency MENA said on Tuesday.

Abul-Fotouh was incarcerated
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
last week, a day after he returned from London where he had given interviews critical of the govenment.

The terrorism-list designation decision followed a request from State Security prosecutors after investigations showed Abul-Fotouh and the others "led and joined a group established in violation of the law with the aim of harming the intersts of the Egyptian state," MENA said, in reference to the Moslem Brüderbund group.

According to Egypt's "Terrorism Entity" law, individuals placed on the terrorism list are banned from travel, added on a watch list and subjected to an asset freeze. The designation decision can be appealed.

Egypt has designated the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Abul-Fotouh, a former member of the Brotherhood, has for years distanced himself from the group and his family said last week he broke away with the movement in 2009 before he was officially dismissed in 2011.

He was ordered remanded into custody for 15 days pending investigations into charges including "publishing and broadcasting false news harming national interests" and "leading an illegal group" that aims to topple the regime and disrupt public order.

Abul Fotouh was detained days after an interview with the Qatar

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
i-based new outlet al-Jazeera Mubasher, which Egypt has banned, in which he criticized President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for involving the military in politics and mishandling the economy.

The interior ministry claims he held "secret meetings" with leaders of the international Moslem Brüderbund organization in London earlier this month to carry out a plot aimed at sparking off unrest and instability in the country.

Abul-Fotouh was among several Egyptian politicians who called last month for a boycott of the upcoming presidential elections, due for late March.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
New ‘Hybrid’ Plots Revealed in Russian Anti-Western Policy
[The Jamestown Foundation] The central theme of the traditional Munich Security Conference last weekend was the current assessment of the Russian threat. The briefs prepared for the high-level participants, including US Secretary of Defense James Mattis and US National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, had, however, to undergo urgent revisions as at least three new developments in the week preceding the event revealed the growing complexity of this threat. First, the intelligence alliance known as “Five Eyes” (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States) put the blame squarely on the Russian military for launching the destructive cyber-attack dubbed “NotPetya” in June 2017 (Newsru.com, February 16). Second, Special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted 13 Russian citizens for interfering in the 2016 US elections as a part of his on-going investigation (Kommersant, February 16). And third, it gradually becomes clear that a major direct clash between Russian and American forces happened in Syria on February 7, when a massive US air and artillery strike destroyed a battalion tactical group comprised of Russian mercenaries (New Times, February 15).

The first two of these revelations fall into the fast-expanding cyber security domain. While operations of Russian “troll factories” like the Internet Research Agency, included in Mueller’s indictment, are well documented, the attribution of the destructive and indiscriminate cyber-attack last June to the Russian military is a significant move (RBC.ru, October 17, 2017). A White House statement promised succinctly that the attack “will be met with international consequences,” but it is also known that Igor Korobov, the chief of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), who is the responsible party, recently visited Washington for discussions on counter-terrorism matters (Kommersant.ru, February 1). The decision of NATO defense ministers taken at the meeting before the Munich conference to establish a new Cyber Operations Center reflects the need to counter Russian experiments in this domain, where Russia has no technological advantage but feels free to play fast and loose (Gazeta.ru, February 15). Jens Stoltenberg, NATO’s Secretary General, mentioned in Munich that countering Russian propaganda by exposing its lies and dirty tricks is a key element in the Alliance’s cyber-defense (RBC.ru, February 18).

The third development, while shaped by a conventional clash, still falls into the “hybrid” category, because Moscow can hide behind official denials. It was triggered by an attack by the Syrian government forces on a stronghold of the opposition Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), where US personnel were present—and Russian field commanders were well aware of that (Ezhednevny Zhurnal, February 13). The urge to capture control of a minor oil plant prevailed over strategic caution, and the results were devastating for the band of Russian mercenaries known as the “Wagner Group” (Nezavisimaya Gazeta, February 16). Rumors in Moscow measured the casualties in the hundreds, and while only a dozen or so are reliably confirmed dead, the most shocking twist in the battle was that the US commanders maintained constant communication with their Russian counterparts over the “de-conflicting channel,” but Moscow opted against giving any warning to its mercenaries (Novaya Gazeta, February 17). Russia’s Defense Ministry had perhaps expected that the episode would remain obscured by the fog of war, but ironically, the social networks that Moscow is so keen to exploit for its propaganda have exposed its duplicity (Republic.ru, February 12).

The stunning defeat in the Euphrates valley signifies a further mutation of the multi-party Syrian war, where Russia sought to augment its reduced intervention with expanded “hybrid” engagement. The rout of “deniable” mercenaries coincided with the Turkish offensive into the Afrin enclave controlled by Kurdish forces, and Moscow expressed full support for this operation expecting that it would further strain the damaged alliance between Turkey and the United States (Nezavisimaya Gazeta, February 12).

Erdogan: Pro-regime groups in Afrin issue 'closed'
[AA.TR] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
on Tuesday said the issue of pro-regime terror groups in Syria's Afrin was "closed for now".

Pro-regime groups earlier on Tuesday, who tried to enter Syria’s Afrin to support YPG/PKK-ISIS against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s ongoing operation in the region, withdrew before reaching the city following a series of warning shots.

Speaking at a joint news conference alongside his Macedonian counterpart Gjorge Ivanov in Ankara, Erdogan said there was a movement towards Afrin by Shia militias which were interrupted after they were shelled.

"But then they were forced to go back after artillery shooting, this file is closed for now," he said.

"Yesterday, we have already agreed on these issues in talks with [Vladimir] Putin and [Hassan] Rouhani," Erdogan said. "Unfortunately, you know, these kinds of terrorist organizations have [sometimes] taken wrong steps with the decisions on their own."

On Monday, Erdogan talked to Russian President Vladimir Putin

Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani over Turkey’s ongoing operation, the fight against terrorist elements and the latest developments in Syria, particulary Afrin and Idlib.

"It is impossible to give them [any terrorist organization] a chance [in Afrin]. They would pay a heavy price for it," he added.

Short introduction's source

Short Introduction:

The international community is grappling for its future, but the wrestling is more complicated than Carl von Clausewitz’s “pair of wrestlers.” The U.S. is part of three ongoing regional and global competitions. At stake: the future of the international order. The first competition involves revisionist powers — Russia, China, and Iran. This competition is below the threshold of war so far, but recent events in Syria show just how easily that threshold might be crossed. Revisionist powers seek to revise the current global order to their advantage, increasing their regional and global influence while decreasing that of the United States and its allies and partners. The second has already crossed the threshold of war. This competition involves revolutionary powers — Al Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham (ISIS), and their ilk. These groups are not mere terrorists. They are waging (and have been from the start) a global revolutionary (and therefore ideological) war, a form of insurgency which is initially local and regional but already has global implications. The United States has waged, with few exceptions, a counterterrorist war. Ultimately, these revolutionary powers seek to overthrow the current international order set in place after World War II. The third competition involves the rogue power, North Korea. This competition is also below the threshold of war, but as recent events have shown it is pressing right against that threshold. Brinkmanship describes this competitive space. Kim Jong-un seeks to maintain enough tension so that he can use it to maintain the legitimacy of his regime and remain in power. America, her allies, and partners should think of themselves as “leading powers”2 seeking to adapt the post-World War II international order to the myriad of changes brought about by the emerging information age, globalization, the revolution in digital technologies, and the end of the Cold War. The United States, with its allies and partners, are wrestling all three sets of competitors simultaneously, and wrestle they must. For these powers have more at stake in adapting the post-World War II rule-based international order than they seem to think.

Taking on one at a time, as desirable as that approach might be, is simply not possible. Like it or not, the U.S., with its allies and partners, faces three, interlocked challenges. How the eroding post-World War II international order adapts or crumbles will be a function of the degree of success the U.S. and its allies have in each of these interrelated challenges...

The Islamist confusion of branding religion as political system
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In order to dismantle the tyranny and violence issuing from the Islamist system of the Arab world today, there should be focus on researching the essence of Islamic culture, not religion.

One day as a child, the great poet Muhammad Iqbal was reciting verses from the Holy Koran, when his father entered the room. His father told him, "My son! Read the book of God, as if it was written today." This is a profound call for restoring the Qur’anic text as a direct means of guidance between the creator and the creature.

Violence is not religious value

Europe
Pressure on EU's southern borders from African migrants seen persisting in 2018
[AlAhram] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
's southern borders in the Mediterranean will remain under heavy pressure from African migrants colonists trying to reach Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
this year, the head of the EU's border agency Frontex said on Tuesday.

Nearly 119,000 Africans were caught trying to get to the EU last year on smugglers' boats departing from Libya, more than 42,000 from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to Greece and another 23,000 heading from Algeria and Morocco to Spain, Fabrice Leggeri said.

"The pressure, the irregular migration pressure on our southern borders in the Mediterranean will remain at a very high level (in 2018)," Leggeri told a news conference.

While numbers on the Libya-Italia route have declined since last July as Libyan factions and authorities - under pressure from Italia and the EU - began to block departures, especially from the smuggling hub of Sabratha, Leggeri said the crossings to Spain have more than doubled from below 10,000 in 2016.

He said the use of more solid rubber boats on this so-called Western Mediterranean route suggested increased activity of people smugglers.

The EU has made stopping irregular immigration from the Middle East and African countries a priority since 2015, when more than a million people reached its shores, overwhelming member states and fanning support for nationalist, anti-immigrant and populist groups across the bloc.

Since a 2016 EU deal with Turkey mostly put a halt to the irregular arrival of Syrian refugees in Greece, Frontex said African nationals now made up nearly two-thirds of some 205,000 people caught trying to arrive in Europe illegally last year.

Frontex gave a total figure of 511,000 of such crossings for 2016. In 2017, Syrians and Nigerians each made up nine percent of overall arrivals, followed by nationals of the Ivory Coast, Guinea and Morocco.

Controls
As the EU tightened asylum laws and controls on external borders, Frontex warned of a possible rise in the use of fraudulent travel documents and undetected crossings, citing examples of people seeking to enter in specially-designed compartments in vans, lorries, cars and cargo trains.

The EU is also trying to step up returns of people with no case for asylum in Europe. Leggeri said Frontex helped deport more than 14,000 people last year.

The EU has struggled to repatriate people who do not qualify for asylum, which is often the case with Africans trying to escape poverty back home rather than war or oppression.

Last year more than 18,000 Nigerians tried to reach the EU via Spain, exceeding the 14,000 Syrians who sought entry via Greece, Frontex said.

Human rights groups have accused the EU of failing to honour its fundamental legal obligations towards migrants colonists and refugees.

Boko Haram Attacks Girls' School in Yobe
[All Africa] Suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
members have attacked Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi, in Burasari local government area of Yobe state.

Detail of the attack is still sketchy as at the time of filling this report.

The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State command, Abdulmaliki Sunmonu confirmed the attack, saying security operatives have been mobilized to the location.

A teacher in the school, who escaped the attack, said the attackers stormed the school around 7:00pm through the eastern part of the town.

"They shot sporadically and forced the school food store opened. We (staff) and the students ran into the bush for safety", he said.

When asked, whether there was abduction of the girls he said it's too early for him to comment on it.

"For now, we can't say anything until all the students returned tomorrow morning", he said.

A resident, Alhaji Ibrahim, said the attackers stormed the village in six Hilux vans through the eastern part while shooting sporadically.

"They force some shops opened and stole food items. We are yet to know if there are casualties because, everyone in the town has scampered for safety. Some fled to bush, others into their homes.

"They also attacked military location at the town entrance bridge. But we cannot tell if there is casualties there" he added.

Palestine urges creation of int'l peace mechanism
[AA.TR] Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
proposed Tuesday the creation of a multilateral international mechanism to broker an elusive Paleostinian-Israeli peace.

The mechanism would be borne out of an international conference to be held by mid-2018, Abbas said.

"We are ready to begin negotiations immediately in order to achieve the freedom and independence of our people," he said in remarks before the UN Security Council. "We are ready to undertake the longest journey."

Following U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's controversial decision to recognize the contested city of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Paleostinians have rejected Washington's role as a peace broker between the parties, and the plan Abbas proposed is intended as a replacement.

U.S. ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley
...Trump administration's ambassador to the UN. First woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley was the youngest governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
shrugged off the proposal, saying the alternative "will get the Paleostinian people exactly nowhere.

"Our negotiators are sitting right here behind me, ready to talk. But we will not chase after you. The choice, Mr. president, is yours," she said, flanked by Jared Kushner, Trump's point person on the Mideast grinding of the peace processor.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
American Who Stole Terracotta Warrior's Thumb Must be 'Severly Punished' Sez China
[Newsweek] Chinese authorities are urging the U.S. to harshly punish an American man who allegedly stole a thumb from an ancient terracotta warrior statue after taking a selfie with it at a museum in Pennsylvania.

Michael Rohana, 24, of Delaware, was charged with theft of a major artwork from a museum, concealment of major artwork stolen from a museum and interstate transportation of stolen property, reported U.S. and Chinese media.

Rohana reportedly broke off the 2000-year-old display’s left thumb before stealing it from the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia during an ’ugly Christmas jumper party’ last December.

An official from the Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Center, who arranged for the statute’s loan, "strongly condemned" the theft and called for America to severely punish the young man for his actions, Beijing Youth Daily reported. Chinese authorities have also demanded compensation for the $4.5 million statute.

#1  It is very important that as a visitor, you do not damage Cultural reminders.

This is a wrong action by an American and do not do it unless you want them doing it in your home town.

Always respect the People of the Countries you visit before you become a "Permanent resident" in a prison there.

Apologize profusely, write a letter to the Chinese Embassy, and apologize Nationally before an American and Chinese audience please.

Ask China what you may do to correct this.

Fun fact: these terracotta warriors are all smashed in the ground. They have to be dug out in pits and then painstakingly reconstructed. There are a ton of them, too, and only a small portion have been assembled.

#6  I don’t doubt there are hundreds, if not thousands of terracotta figures in pieces in the ground back in China. I am equally certain that the “ugly Christmas sweater” party at the museum was a mixer/fundraiser designed to increase interest in the museum among the younger generation. The symphony, the art museums, the opera, the ballet — and the local blues and jazz societies as well — have been struggling with greying audiences for years.

Nonetheless, one simply can’t break off bits of the display in a bout of boyish high spirits to take as souvenirs. That’s no better than scribbling a moustache on the Mona Lisa with a sharpie. The museum, after all, is liable for the cost of the restoration, and will deservedly find it considerably more difficult to get other shows on loan in the future, which will significantly cut into their future ability to attract audiences, and therefore the donations they need to remain open — no museum can survive on entry fees alone.

Mr, Rohana needs to be punished. I assume from the venue and the activity that he is a successful young professional with useful skills and connections. Let him, in addition to the significant fine, donate ten hours a week for a year applying those skills and connections to the needs of the museum.

Greece jails Palestinian over migrant smuggling
[Ynet] A Greek court in the northern city of Thessaloniki has convicted a Paleostinian man of running a major migrant-smuggling ring and sentenced him to 13 years in prison.

Judges ruled Tuesday that 29-year-old Jamal Owda was active during the height of Europe's immigration crisis, from July 2014 to December 2015 -- when he was locked away

in Britannia following a Greek request.

Moslem colonists Migrants allegedly paid the ring 1,500 euros ($1,900) each to be taken from Greece to Serbia by road, at a time before Balkan countries closed their borders to check migratory flows. The traffickers' annual revenues exceeded 10 million euros ($12 million).

Owda, who denied the charges, was extradited to Greece last year after British authorities rejected his asylum application. Another 22 people have earlier been convicted of belonging to the group.

Nurses beat up doctor facing sexual harassment probe
[DAWN] MIRPURKHAS: A doctor was severely beaten up by some nurses and their supporters at the Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital on Monday over his alleged act of sexual harassment.

According to some hospital employees, patients and visitors, several emotionally charged nurses along with their acquaintances grabbed the doctor, an anaesthetist, and started beating him up in the operating theatre.

Onlookers said the doctor suffered injuries during the long episode which ended only when some hospital staffers intervened to rescue him.

It was learnt that the doctor had been transferred to Bloody Karachi

the doctor somehow got himself reposted at the hospital.

The inquiry was ordered by Civil Surgeon Dr Iqbal Bhurgari and assigned to a three-member committee comprising Dr Saeed Arain, Dr Jhamandas and Ms Maqboola. Its report is awaited.

Meanwhile,

Egypt to open Rafah border crossing with Gaza for second time in two weeks
Do they think the Gazans are now sufficiently cowed that it is safe to do so?
[AlAhram] Egyptian authorities will open the Rafah border crossing with Paleostine’s Gazoo Strip in both directions for four days starting Wednesday for humanitarian purposes and to allow stranded Paleostinians to return to the Strip, Egypt's state news agency MENA reported.

The Rafah border crossing is the main gateway to the outside world for 1.8 million Paleostinians living in Israeli-besieged Gazoo, and is the only crossing point not controlled by Israel.

This will be the second time Egypt has opened the crossing in two weeks. The crossing was opened on 7 February for three days after an almost two-month closure.

Egypt has mostly kept the border closed over the past few years due to security concerns following the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in 2013. The Egyptian government opens the crossing periodically for humanitarian purposes.
The Times of Israel adds:
Thousands of Gazoo residents are on travel lists ‐ most of them medical patients, students, and holders of residency permits of other countries. Only a few thousand will make it out in the time allotted.

POTUS Directs Justice Department To Take Steps To Ban Bump Stocks
[Huffpoo] President Donald Trump announced he has ordered Attorney General Jeff Sessions to take steps to ban bump stocks, the type of gun modification that enabled Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock to kill 58 people in October.

"Just a few moments ago, I signed a memorandum directing the attorney general to propose regulations to ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns," Trump said Tuesday while speaking at a medal of valor ceremony at the White House. "I expect that these critical regulations will be finalized ... very soon."

Bump stocks are devices that allow a semiautomatic gun to fire as quickly as a machine gun. Paddock was found to be in possession of more than a dozen assault-style rifles, many outfitted with bump stocks and 100-round magazines. He was ultimately able to fire more than 1,100 rounds in a period of 10 minutes.

In 2010, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ruled that it did not have the authority to regulate bump stocks because they are not technically "machine guns," which federal law defines as firearms that shoot more than one shot per pull of the trigger.

Justice Department officials said in December that they do not believe they could regulate bump stock sales without congressional action, according to The New York Times.

#3  Banning bump stocks is a sop to the left. Most gun enthusiasts & sportsmen don't seem to care much about such a ban. Some gun ranges and clubs have fully automatic firearms should someone want to have the experience of shooting a fully auto gun.

Bumps stocks were involved in exactly one incident in Las Vega. I can't think of any other shootings where bump stock or fully auto firearms have been used in mass shootings.

Bump stocks and guns are not the problem. Crazy people are the problem. There are plenty of gun laws. That is not the problem.

The biggest problems as, I see it, are: 1. Radicalized and crazy people, and 2. Not acting upon available information about crazy or radicalized people.

#6  The bump stock devices use inertia to increase the fire rate. How do you craft a law that has language narrow enough not affect the internal mechanics of semi-automatic guns? #11  Bumpstocks aren’t the issue.

The solution to school shootings is to quit having schools a soft target. This will involve staff trained and certified in concealed carry of firearms.

Also, one approach never mentioned is to educate students on what they can do to protect their classmates, teachers, and themselves. I taught my son and his chums what they could do to protect their class. It does not involve hiding under a desk. I can understand students’ horror and outrage, but the authorities cultivate the victim like sheep rather than showing what students can do to help themselves.

#14  Let me get this straight. The US military moved away from auto fire on assault rifles and towards three shot bursts because auto-fire was less accurate and tended to waste bullets.

Bump stock semi-duplicates auto-fire so we want to ban it?

Shouldn't we be promoting anything that makes a shooter less accurate and more likely to run out of bullets quickly?

Tens of Russian and CIS citizens killed in Syria were not military -- Moscow
[ALMASDARNEWS] According to preliminary information shared by the Russian Foreign Ministry last week, at least 5 Russian volunteers were killed in US-led coalition’s Arclight airstrike on pro-Damascus forces in Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that tens of Russian and CIS nationals had been killed in recent festivities in Syria, emphasizing that they were not military.

"In the course of the recent military festivities, in which the Russian servicemen did not participate in any way [...], Russian and CIS countries’ nationals were killed and several others were maimed."

According to the ministry, those injured have been assisted in order to return to Russia and have been provided medical aid.

On February 15, when asked to comment on media reports, alleding that a large number of Russian "mercenaries" had been killed in Syria, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that, according to preliminary data, five presumably Russian nationals had died. She emphasized that reports of hundreds of Russian citizens killed in a US-led coalition’s airstrike were "disinformation" spread by anti-government forces.

At the same time, Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov said earlier that he didn’t rule out that Russian nationals, who do not belong to the Russian Armed Forces, could be in Syria.

On February 8, US Central Command announced that the coalition conducted what it described as "defensive airstrikes" against pro-government forces near the Euphrates River as a response to an alleged attack against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) headquarters, which reportedly resulted in the death of at least 100 pro-government militia. The attack was slammed by Damascus as "a new act of aggression that constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity."

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that holy warriors came under fire of the coalition because lack of coordination of actions with Moscow, adding that there were no Russian servicemen in the area.

US-led Coalition airstrikes near Deir Ez-Zor kill at least 16 people
[ALMASDARNEWS] The US-led coalition is reportedly continuing Arclight airstrikes in Syria, which, however, have not been authorized by the government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
One of the last of the old-fashioned hereditary iron-fisted fascist dictators...
or the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
The Syrian state news agency SANA has reported a new massacre allegedly committed by the US-led coalition in al-Bahra village in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which resulted in the killing of 16 civilians, including 9 women.

According to the agency, citing its local sources, the coalition warplanes have conducted a series of airstrikes on residential areas about 45 km to the northwest of the city of al-Boukama near Deir ez-Zor, causing material damages.

The media outlet stated that the corpse count was likely to rise, as the number of injured are at death's door after the strikes.

The anti-ISIS coalition forces have been conducting airstrikes against the terror group in Syria and Iraq since 2014, acting in Syria without any request or authorization by the government of President Bashir al-Assad or the United Nations.

Last month, SANA had reported another deadly airstrike by the coalition, claiming that fifteen civilians had been killed by the coalition’s actions.

Following the US-led coalition’s actions on the ground, the Syrian Foreign Ministry on December 14 sent a letter to the UN Security Council and to the UN Secretary-General, accusing the coalition forces of killing civilians in the province of Deir Ez-Zor.

The Syrian government blamed the coalition at the UN of making deals with the remnants of ISIS and coordinating its actions, as multiple reports appeared in the media that the US had evacuated ISIS gunnies and terrorist leaders from several areas across the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor.

and several injured, according to the Iranian Irna news agency.

The festivities were between security forces and dervishes of the Gonabadi denomination who had gathered in front of a cop shoppe, demanding the release of some members of their Sufi religious order, according to video footage posted on social media.

Some local news agencies reported the death of a number of police forces during the festivities.

A video of was posted showing a bus trampling a number of coppers involved in suppressing the protesting Sufis..

According to security sources, the bus driver was arrested, and investigations are underway to find out his identity.

The Sufi protests began after the arrest of a person named Nematollah Riahi about two weeks ago during violence in northern Tehran, where the Sufis gathered outside the house of their guide, "Nurallah Tabenda", following reports that the security forces intend to arrest him.

This occured although Tehran police chief Hussein Rahimi announced that "There is no intention to go after the Gonabadi Sufis in Tehran."

In the last two decades, Gonabadi Sufis have been subjected to security pursuits throughout Iran, with several arrested and facing charges.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Releases Leading Pro-Kurdish Politician
[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Tuesday released the former co-leader of the country's main pro-Kurdish party, the group said, after she was detained over her opposition to Ankara's offensive in northern Syria.

Police nabbed
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
Serpil Kemalbay of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in Ankara on February 13, two days after she handed over her job to a successor.

"Our former co-leader Serpil Kemalbay has been released. Defending peace is not a crime; it is an obligation, an honour!" the party said on Twitter.

Kemalbay, who still faces charges and has been placed under judicial control, will have to report regularly to the authorities and cannot leave the country, an HDP official told AFP on condition of anonymity.
So she isn’t really released, but at least she gets to sleep in her own bed for a while longer, and put her affairs in order before returning to prison..
Kemalbay succeeded Figen Yuksekdag as co-leader in May 2017 after Yuksekdag was stripped of her status as politician in February of the same year.

At a party congress on February 11 Pervin Buldan took over Kemalbay's job.

Ottoman Turkish media reported that Kemalbay had been taken into custody over calls for protests against the cross-border operation dubbed "Olive Branch" launched last month.

The HDP, the third-largest party in parliament, has been hit by arrests of its leaders and supporters on accusations of supporting the PKK, which the party denies.

Since the offensive began in Syria, Ottoman Turkish authorities have detained 786 people, including 587 over disseminating "propaganda" against the operation.

#10  its sad that it came to this. The initial problem could have been fixed if Bush had actually imposed consequences on Turkey for its refusal to act as a NATO partner and allow the northern axis access via Turkish ports in OIF-I. Bush really blew it. And Obama made it worse by his basically acting as Iranian ally in the region due to the 5th column treason inside the Oval Office at the highest level, Valerie Jarrett. If there was any justice she should have at least been indicted by now.

What makes it worse is that the best natural allies we have in the region are the Kurds. And we still have not given them the support and heavy weapons, including artillery, that they need. When will we act honorably and quit doing to the Kurds in SW Asia what our nation did to the Montagnard in Vietnam?

Its disgusting. There are brave men and women over there. And many US and other westerners helping them and trying to make a difference, in spite of our State Department and 3 letter agencies. I will go to my deathbed with no regrets for what we attempted to do, and ashamed of my government for failing to do the right things.

China-Japan-Koreas
S. Korea to resume joint military drills with US
[AA.TR] South Korea will go ahead with spring military drills alongside the United States despite North Korean opposition, Seoul's Defense Ministry stated Tuesday.

The annual exercises, regularly denounced by the North as war preparations, have already been delayed until after the March 18 closing of the Winter Paralympics.

Pyongyang has also refrained from missile testing so far this year, and inter-Korean relations have seen a dramatic improvement on the occasion of the South hosting the Winter Games since February 9.

Following statements of willingness from both sides, the Koreas ended years of tensions by cooperating to form a unified Olympic team for the women's ice hockey event, while North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
dispatched a high-level delegation to the opening ceremony -- including his sister Kim Yo-jong, who on behalf of her brother invited South Korean President Moon Jae-in to Pyongyang.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
it remains to be seen whether Moon will accept the proposal as he stressed last weekend the North should also engage in dialogue with the U.S. -- a prospect that could become less likely when allied military drills resume.

What is Venezuela's new petro cryptocurrency?
[Al Jazeera] Venezuela has officially launched the pre-sale its new digital currency called the petro.

"Petro is born, and we are going to have a total success for the welfare of Venezuela," President Nicolas Maduro said on Tuesday.

The launch of the so-called cryptocurrency comes as Venezuela faces deepening economic and political crises.

According to the government, the petro is backed by oil, gas, gold and diamonds, and is meant to help overcome US and EU sanctions.

Here is what we know about the new currency.

What is the petro?

The idea for the petro came from Hugo Chavez, who had foreseen a "strong currency backed by raw materials", according to the government's white paper on the petro.

Announced in December 2017, the petro is intended to supplement Venezuela's bolivar fuerte (VEF) currency and help overcome US sanctions.

Petros will be "pre-mined", meaning the government would produce and control it.

Venezuela has allocated five billion barrels of oil to back its new digital currency, which will be tied to the cost of a barrel of Venezuelan oil.

Where can you buy it?

Initially, the petro will be sold in hard currency and other cryptocurrencies, not in the local bolivar currency.

"The presale and initial offer will be made in hard currencies and in cryptocurrencies," Carlos Vargas, the government cryptocurrency superintendent, told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
in late January.

"It is not going to be done in bolivars at this stage," he added.

"Our responsibility is to put [the petro] in the best hands and then a secondary market will appear."

Vargas also said that after the initial sale, the petro could be sold in exchange for the bolivar.

How much does it cost?

Each petro will be backed by a barrel of oil and will be sold at the same price, according to the government.

Prior to the launch, government advisers recommended that 38.4 percent of the petros should be sold in a pre-sale private auction at a discount of 60 percent.

Man booked for ‘blasphemy’
[DAWN] LAHORE: The Shahdara police lodged a case against a young suspect under blasphemy law after he allegedly shared hate material on social media.

The FIR was lodged under Section 295-C of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) in the wake of the day-long agitation by hundreds of people including activists of Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (LYRA) and other religious parties.

Tension mounted in Shahdara on Monday as hundreds of people blocked the main road for traffic shortly after the sacrilegious contents appeared on social media.

The people first gathered in some localities along the railway lines and continued agitation there for some hours saying that the suspect had hurt their religious sentiments.

Senior coppers, who had reached the site along with heavy contingent, tried to disperse them through dialogue.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the agitators got more strength when area people made announcements in local mosques inviting a large number of people to join them.

The protesters later marched towards GT Road (Shahdra), burnt tyres and continued protest from [Monday] morning to evening, demanding immediate arrest of the suspect.

The police high-ups called more reserves to maintain law and order situation.

City Division Operations SP Ali Raza told Dawn that the police high command remained busy in talks with leaders of protesters.

He said the dialogue process which was initiated at 9am continued till the protesters dispersed peacefully after evening.

To a question about the hate material, Mr Raza said police experts traced the suspect.

As the family of the suspect confirmed his act declaring it a gross mistake, they helped the police in his arrest, he said adding that a case has been lodged against the suspect.

Somalia Military Court Sentences Army Officer To Death
[RADIOSHABELLE] Somali military court on Tuesday sentenced a senior army official to death after finding him guilty of murdering chief commander of the Somali marines in Mogadishu on Jan. 18, officials said.

Chairperson of the Military Court, Hassan Ali Shute, said Abdinasir Hosh committed the crime deliberately and he killed the official at his office at Mogadishu seaport.

"The Court sentenced Col. Abdinasir Hosh Mohammed (54) to death after finding him guilty of killing the Somali Marines chief, Gen. Said Aden Yusuf at his office at Mogadishu Seaport on Jan. 18," Shute said.

He added that there had been an argument between the two before the accused opened fire on the dear departed. Shute said the court also stripped Hosh of his rank in the army and sentenced him to death.

When guns save lives
[KRQENews] Albuquerque Police are calling one man a hero after he opened fire in the middle of a busy intersection Sunday evening, breaking up and preventing a possible double homicide.

Officer Simon Drobik said around 5 p.m., a woman was driving her daughter to the airport when her estranged husband, Qian Ming, 66, intentionally crashed his truck into hers.

According to APD, Ming then got out of his vehicle and fired a couple of rounds into the wife’s truck, striking his daughter on the shoulder.

At that time, Officer Drobik said a 34-year-old Good Samaritan pulled up to what he thought was a crash. He witnessed Ming beating his daughter with a gun in the middle of the street.

“Once he started walking up, he saw that there was a male violently pistol-whipping a female in the street,” Officer Drobik said. “He got out of his vehicle and had his firearm on him and told that male to stop.”

That’s when the Good Samaritan, who is not being named at this time because he’s currently not facing any charges, told police Ming pointed the gun in his direction.

Police say the man then fired at least one shot, hitting and killing Ming.

“Mom in the hospital said, ‘He saved our lives,'” Officer Drobik said. “You can’t get a stronger statement than that. So she knew it. Daughter knows it and good thing he took that type of action.”

Officers did detain the man for questioning. He was released later that night. Officer Drobik said the man is a 12-year veteran of the National Guard.

The daughter is still in the hospital but is expected to be okay.

Pakistan has world's highest newborn mortality rate, reveals Unicef report
[DAWN] Pakistain has the world's highest newborn mortality rate, with one in every 22 babies born dying within a month, according to a Unicef report released on Tuesday.
They're probably not religious enough.
The report reveals that babies born in the world's poorest countries, most of them in Africa, still face "alarming" risks of death that can be 50 times as high as those in the richest countries.

Japan, for instance, is highlighted as the best place for a baby to be born, with only one in 1,111 babies at risk of dying within a month of birth.

While the last quarter-century has seen broad improvements in older children's health, "we have not made similar progress in ending deaths among children less than one month old," said Henrietta Fore, Unicef's executive director.

"Given that the majority of these deaths are preventable, clearly we are failing the world's poorest babies."

Congo: Thousands flee amid surge in 'horrific violence'
It’s the Congo. Horrific violence is what they have done at least since Belgium got hold of the territory.
[Al Jazeera] The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
has warned that the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
(DRC) is facing a "humanitarian disaster of extraordinary proportions", as violence and mass displacement is rapidly rising in the country's southeast.

A spokesperson for the UN's refugee agency (UNHCR) said on Monday that entrenched intercommunal conflict between several ethnic groups in Tanganyika province was "triggering spiraling displacement and human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
abuses".

"Moreover, fierce festivities between the Congolese armed forces and militias have continued since the end of January, while new gangs threaten to wreak more havoc in the province," Andrej Mahecic said in a statement.

The surge in violence in Tanganyika - an area that is home to about three million people - was largely between the Twa, Luba and other ethnic groups.

It comes amid more than 800 reported human rights abuses in the province over the first two weeks of February alone.

"People fleeing for their lives near the lovely provincial capital Kalemie share stories of horrific violence during attacks against their villages, including killings, abductions and rape," Mahecic said.

#1  The province just north of it "Sud-Kivu" is the main coffee growing area. Tanganyika grows a little coffee. Both areas are also filled with various factions that never went back to Rwanda after the genocide. It's been dangerous since at least 1990 just due to these interlopers. The article refers to local tribes so it's gotten more complex.

Afrin Activities: Turks kill FSA fighters and Kurdish civilians, FSA returns the favour, Assad’s troops are/are not involved
Schroedinger’s cat has nothing on the Syrian troops.
At least 205 FSA fighters, 39 Turkish soldiers killed in Afrin

[ALMASDARNEWS] According to the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for the Human Rights (SOHR), at least 550 people, including combatants, have been killed in the Afrin region since the start of Operation Olive Branch on January 20th.

Of the 550 killed in the Afrin region, this is the breakdown that was released by the SOHR:
  • 39 Turkish Army soldiers have been killed

  • 205 FSA rebels have been killed

  • 219 YPG fighters have been killed

  • 112 civilians have been killed

The Turkish General Staff’s numbers differ greatly from the SOHR’s stats, as the former claims that 1,700 YPG fighters have been killed.

Syrian pro-gov’t forces deny abandoning Afrin battle

[ALMASDARNEWS] A pro-government fighter from the National Defense Forces (NDF) in northern Aleppo told al-Masdar News on Tuesday night that all reports of the NDF abandoning the YPG in Afrin are false.

The NDF source added that if any unit left Afrin, it was likely temporary as most of the fighters come from the pro-government towns of al-Zahra’a and Nubl in northern Aleppo.

Many of the NDF fighters from al-Zahra’a and Nubl are close with the YPG in Afrin, as they provided them necessary aid during the jihadist siege from 2013-2016.

These NDF fighters in al-Zahra’a and Nubl had initially asked to aid the YPG once the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels attacked Afrin on January 20th; however, the Syrian government had not approved this request.

Pro-Assad terror groups withdraw from Afrin

[AA.TR] Pro-regime groups, who tried to enter Syria’s Afrin to support YPG/PKK-ISIS against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s ongoing operation in the region, have withdrawn Tuesday before reaching the city following warning shots, according to reliable sources on the ground.

The pro-regime groups departed in the Nubl-al-Zahraa region, in southern Afrin, at around 5.00 p.m. (1400GMT) with the aim of supporting YPG/PKK-ISIS terror groups against Operation Olive Branch, said the source on condition of anonymity due to speaking to the media.

The militias tried to advance into the city with a convoy of 20 vehicles including armored vehicles with DShK heavy machine guns.

The withdrawal of the pro-Bashir al-Assad terror groups upon warning shot came when they were about 10 km (about 6 miles) away from Afrin, in northwestern Syria.

As the convoy moved ahead, artillery fire was used as a warning but did not hit any vehicles.

The movements of terrorist groups in Aleppo’s other regions towards Afrin are being monitored, the sources added.

On Jan. 20, Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch to clear YPG/PKK-ISIS bully boyz from Afrin.

Syria pro-government forces enter Afrin to aid Kurds against Turkey

[AlAhram] Pro-Syrian government forces entered Syria's northwestern Afrin region on Tuesday to help a Kurdish militia there fend off a Ottoman Turkish assault, raising the prospect of a wider escalation of the conflict.

Soon after the convoy of militia fighters - waving Syrian flags and brandishing weapons - entered Afrin, Syrian state media reported that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
had targeted them with shellfire.

Syrian television had earlier shown the group of fighters passing through a checkpoint that bore the insignia of the Kurdish security force, some chanting "one Syria, one Syria", and driving further into Afrin.

The YPG hailed the arrival of the pro-government forces - which included militias allied to Assad but not the Syrian army itself - and said they were deploying along the front line facing the Ottoman Turkish border.

It made no mention of a deal that a Kurdish official said on Sunday had been struck with Assad's government for the Syrian army itself to enter Afrin.

YPG media adviser Rezan Hedo denied Erdogan's assertion that the convoy had turned back under Ottoman Turkish artillery fire, but he gave no details on its size or composition. A Britannia-based monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said one convoy had entered Afrin while another turned back.
In other words, everyone is right. Whew!
Ottoman Turkish markets faced a broad sell-off in response to news seen as indicating that a swift victory for the Ottoman Turkish campaign in Afrin could be more difficult than Ankara had expected, and that battle there could unsettle relations with Russia or Iran.
The poor darlings.
The lira weakened as much as 1.5 percent against the dollar, while stocks tumbled more than 2 percent ‐ their biggest one-day drop in five weeks.

The country’s dollar-denominated bonds also came under pressure, with longer-dated issues dropping 1 cent. The cost of insuring exposure to its sovereign debt rose.

#3  The FSA is a feudal coalition of mercenaries and local militias captained by strongmen. So casualties will render them "combat ineffective" very quickly on the attack. The question is if the Turks can keep them attacking if the Syrians bring in artillery/anti-air assets to support the Kurds.

's Nazimabad area on Tuesday after the team attempted to vaccinate its students against polio.

A first information report against the school was registered in the Nazimabad cop shoppe after the incident, with the assistant commissioner as the complainant. The institution was subsequently sealed.

According to DawnNews, the health workers had visited the school earlier to administer the polio vaccine to students.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the school had reportedly refused to allow the children to be vaccinated, following which a team comprising polio health workers Asma, Shazia, Raees Farrukh and Raheela Masroor visited the school and insisted that the school officials not hinder them in their work.

Despite insistence from the polio team, the school administration allegedly refused to budge and physically attacked the health workers, as well as Rafiq. The car used by the health workers was also damaged.

Inspector General of Police Sindh A.D. Khowaja ordered the senior superintendent of police Central to submit a detailed report of the incident.

The school has been contacted for its version of the events.

Polio teams have also been the target of Lions of Islam allegedly after the Taliban

Though attacks targeting polio teams have decreased in frequency over the last few years, incidents of violence still occur. Last month, two female polio workers were bumped off in Quetta. Officials have also been baffled by the number of incidents of well-educated people refusing to vaccinate their children.

Kazakhstan Changes its Alphabet. Again
[BBC] President Nursultan Nazarbayev has issued a decree amending last October's decision to move from the Cyrillic alphabet to a Latin one, after the much-maligned apostrophes caused national uproar.

Eurasianet says that the new system will not only make the language look more elegant, but it will save Kazakhs extra key presses on their electronic devices.
The decree gives the country seven years to completely switch over to the new system, AKIPress news agency reports.

Nazarbayev's move away from Cyrillic is thought to be an attempt to shed Russian influence.
An odd story, but of some importance - Kazakhstan is Moslem, an oil-rich former state of the USSR, and they are leaving Cyrillic but not going to Arabic.

#8  Recent news said the navy is shifting over from rail guns to lasers. Well lasers have an advantage in that they don't need ammo, but they are very finicky and can't fire over the horizon as a rail gun can. Also if you build a proper rail gun you could use a metal cup (with parachute) to launch nearly anything. Chunks of concrete could do a lot of damage if fired from a rail gun and would leave no evidence if they hit a concrete building.

And imagine the sick fun of freeing Jihadi from Gauntanimo and returning them to Afghanistan using a rail gun delivery system. It would certainly do wonders for their friends morale.

Suspect Arrested After Al Shabaab Attack On Wajir Teachers
[RADIOSHABELLE] A suspect has been tossed in the slammer

following the killing of four people by suspected al-Shabaab

bully boyz in Wajir County.

Three teachers and the wife of one of them were killed at Qarsa Primary School early last Friday morning.

North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh said a team of multi-agency security agents found the suspect.

Two are on the run, he said at Garissa Government Guest House on Tuesday.

Saleh did not give the details of the arrest but noted: "Security apparatus are determined to ensure the arrest of those involved in the killing of innocent Kenyans.

"I assure Kenyans that we will pursue this matter to the very end. Even if they cross over to Somalia we shall go for them. They will face the consequences.

"Surely, how do you kill a teacher who is teaching your children? This is being heartless."

Saleh spoke when he opened a five-day training workshop for chiefs and assistant chiefs from the County.

He warned the administrators against sleeping on their jobs, saying they will be sacked.

At a press briefing last week, the Coordinator issued the names of Kenyans he said had been working with the Somalia-based terror group.

He identified them as Maalim Yussuf, the commander, and his accomplices Daud Ahmed and his cousin Abdirashid Ibrahim, who are from Kotulo

Saleh said most terror attacks are led by Kenyan youths from the region who have been recruited by the bully boyz and are well known to the community.

Following the attack, non-local-teachers from the region have threatened to leave en masse as their lives are in danger.

Knut and Kuppet had asked them to leave but on Monday, Senators told them to stay put as the "very dangerous" call will deny children their right to education.

Teachers at some of the schools in Wajir and Mandera Counties have already left.

Pakistan: Lawyer shoots dead 2 colleagues in court
[AA.TR] A lawyer on Tuesday rubbed out his two colleagues after a heated argument during a court proceeding in northeastern Lahore city on Tuesday, police and local media reported.

The accused, and the dear departed, who are said to be relatives, were contesting a land ownership case in the Lahore district court, where they exchanged hot words during the proceedings, according to local broadcaster ARY News.

The assailant -- a junior lawyer identified as Rana Kashif -- fired at his colleagues as soon as they stepped out the courtroom, killing them on the spot before he was tossed in the calaboose

, the news channel reported.

Live footage aired on the channel showed the police struggling to save the accused from other lawyers who tried to attack him.

This is the second firing incident at the same court in less than a month. In January, a cop, and an under trial prisoner were killed when button men fired at them.

that would allow the latter to transport their fighters and families from the Yarmouk Camp to the Idlib Governorate.

In exchange for safe passage, HTS will allow 160 civilians from Kafraya and al-Fou’aa to leave this besieged enclave in Idlib.

This deal comes just 48 hours after HTS lost most of the Yarmouk Camp District to the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

The deal will be facilitated by the Syrian Red Islamic Thingy Society.

Trump orders probe of Russian ballistic missile
[AA.TR] U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on Tuesday gave the go-ahead for a Congressionally mandated review of whether a Russian ballistic missile violates a Reagan-era nuclear treaty.

Trump, in consultation with high-ranking government officials, will conduct a review to determine whether Russia’s RS-26 ballistic missile violates the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, according to the White House.

"By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America...I hereby delegate to the Secretary of State, in coordination with the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Director of National Intelligence the functions and authorities vested in the President by section 1245 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018," Trump said in a statement.

Section 1245 requires that a review of the RS-26 ballistic missile be conducted within 90 days after the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Dec. 12 last year.

The investigation will determine whether the missile is covered under the New START treaty, a bilateral agreement between the U.S. and Russia on measures for the reduction of strategic offensive arms, or is a violation of the INF Treaty because Russia has flight-tested such a missile to ranges covered by the INF Treaty in more than one warhead configuration.

The INF Treaty, a 1987 agreement between Washington and Moscow, aims to eliminate all short-range nuclear and conventional missiles with ranges of 310‐620 miles (500‐1,000 kilometers) and intermediate-range missiles with ranges of 620‐3,420 miles (1,000‐5,500 km) as well as their launchers.

According to the NDAA, if the investigation determines that the RS-26 ballistic missile is covered under the New START Treaty and that Russia has not taken certain steps under it, the U.S. shall consider for purposes of all policies and decisions that the missile is in violation of the INF Treaty.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Man sent to jail for accusing toddler in land dispute case
[Dhaka Tribune] A Jamalpur court has sent a man to jail after he accused a two-and-a-half-year old child in a case filed over land dispute without disclosing the age of the accused.

Fazlul Haque, the brother of toddler Arif, said they had a land dispute with their neighbour Abdul Hanif who accused eight persons in a case on January 16.

When the child arrived at court on Monday, Additional Senior Judicial Magistrate Waheduzzaman filed a case against Hanif for withholding information about the defendant.

Sultan Uddin, the plaintiff’s lawyer, defended his client, saying the child was included as a defendant in the civil case as he would inherit the from his father in future.

But the child was accused in a criminal case.

When the judge asked how a toddler could be a criminal, the lawyer kept mum.

Defence counsel Titu Kumar Saha said the case was filed without disclosing proper information about the accused. "This is against the law."

Public Prosecutor Nirmal Kanti Bhadro said the plaintiff had mentioned the age of six defendants but omitted Arif’s. "This is considered fraudulent," Bhadro said.

He said when accepting the case, the magistrate could have asked the plaintiff why one defendant’s age had not been mentioned.

"Things came to this since he did not do that," the PP said. "When the child arrived at the court, the magistrate took immediate action against the plaintiff."

Europe
3 detained in southern France over 2017 Barcelona attacks
[Ynet] The French prosecutor's office says three people have been detained in La Belle France in connection with August's deadly attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.
The original post about the 8/17/2017 attack can be seen here. The two vehicle attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils by the Moroccan-Spanish and Moroccan cell of friends’n’relations would have been much worse, had their Mother of Satan-filled truck bomb not gone off prematurely, taking their holy man leader straight to the afterlife he so thoroughly deserved. Apparently the authorities are still discovering others connected with the nefarious plot.
The arrests were made in the southern French regions of Tarn and Gard Tuesday after a decision by a French judge last month to launch a full inquiry into the Spanish attacks, which left 16 dead during the peak tourist season.

The three individuals are being held over the inquiry into "attempted murder as part of a terrorist enterprise" and "criminal terrorist association." The identities and nationalities of the three have not been disclosed.

No charges have been made.

The French prosecutor's office said the three are in the network of one of the attack suspects in Spain but declined to elaborate.

Turkey orders detention of 170 soldiers for links to coup plotters: Anadolu
[AlAhram] Ottoman Turkish authorities issued detention warrants for 170 people suspected of links to the network accused of orchestrating a failed coup in 2016, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Tuesday.

Those targeted in the operation, which was centred in Istanbul and spread across 37 other provinces, included retired, suspended and serving soldiers, Anadolu said, adding 22 of them were detained on Tuesday morning.

The suspects are believed to have contacted imams of the network via payphones and landlines, the news agency said. The arrests are part of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

more than 50,000 under a state of emergency. It has also sacked or suspended 150,000 people from their jobs in the military, public and private sectors.

The government dismisses rights groups' concerns about the crackdown, saying only such a purge could neutralise the threat represented by Gulen's network, which it says infiltrated institutions such as the judiciary, army and schools.
