DACA recipient, 21, threatened to 'shoot all of ya b----es' at NY high school
[FoxNews] A 21-year-old illegal immigrant who was allowed to stay in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was arrested last week in Rochester, N.Y., for making terroristic threats against students in a high school, officials said.

Abigail Hernandez was arrested and charged for the threats against East High School and was remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail, WHAM reported. Hernandez — who is not a student at the school — was moved to a federal detention facility, and will be held there until a hearing is scheduled.

Rochester City School District called police at 5:08 p.m. February 16 about a threat posted on the East High School Facebook page, which read: “I’m coming tomorrow morning and I’m going to shoot all of ya b----es.”

East High School Superintendent Shaun Nelms told WHAM Friday evening: “Sadly, in wake of the recent Parkland, Florida tragedy, schools across the country have been grappling with social media threats intended to instill fear and anxiety. While we cannot comment on this particular police investigation around a threat made to East, I want to stress how fortunate we are to be part of a community in which the police department works closely with schools to ensure the safety of the entire school community.”

The massacre in Parkland killed 17 students on Feb. 14.

Rochester Police Department Deputy Chief La’Ron Singletary told WHAM it took police days to track down the threat because it was made from a fictitious social media account.

Police found a shotgun inside the home of Hernandez on February 20, the date of her arrest.

During the investigation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents determined Hernandez was an illegal immigrant who was in the United States under the Obama-era DACA program, according to WHAM.

The city of Rochester recently affirmed its status as a “sanctuary city,” meaning it would not share immigration information with federal authorities, according to The Democrat and Chronicle.

“She’s not right mentally — she doesn’t pick up what people say,” her mother, who asked not to be identified by name, said in Spanish to The Democrat and Chronicle. “She’s very dependent on me.”

YouTube star who claims veganism healed her breast cancer dies from disease
h/t Instapundit
[FoxNews] A YouTube star who had claimed a vegan diet and spiritual lifestyle cured her of breast cancer died of the disease, her niece confirmed.

Liz Johnson said her aunt Mari Lopez died in December after the cancer recurred. The two women hosted a YouTube channel together titled "Liz & Mari."

Johnson posted a video Sunday explaining her aunt stopped her vegan diet after her cancer returned. She attributed Lopez’s death to undergoing radiation, chemotherapy and eating meat again.

Southern Poverty Law Center is now calling my wife a "Male Supremacist."
h/t instapundit
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a mail order scam with all the credibility of a guy selling fake Rolex watches on a street corner at midnight, has done it again. The same lefty hate group whose hate map led to at least one violent attack on a religious group, which listed a sign outside a bar as a hate group and blatantly faked an Islamophobia increase is back in action.

This time the SPLC is denouncing female male supremacism. It's like white supremacism, except with men. So it's very trendy. But just as its Islamophobia materials accused some Muslims of being Islamophobes (because they opposed the Muslim Brotherhood), the SPLC attacks some women as "male supremacists".

Virtue Signalling Broward County Sheriff - ‘I've Given Amazing Leadership'
[Breitbart] Sunday on CNN’s "State of the Union," Broward County, FL Sheriff Scott Israel fielded questions from show host Jake Tapper about his department’s actions leading up to and during the Parkland school shooting.

Israel said he had provided "amazing leadership" as the head of that agency.

Partial transcript as follows:

TAPPER: Are you really not taking any responsibility for the multiple red flags that were brought to the attention of the Broward Sheriff’s office about this shooter before this incident, whether it was people near him, close to him calling the police?

ISRAEL: I can only take responsibility for what I knew about. I exercised my due diligence. I’ve given amazing leadership to this agency.

TAPPER: Amazing leadership?

More from the talkative sheriff at 10:40 a.m. from Skidmark:
Sheriff Israel To Local Reporter On His Deputy's Failure: ‘That's Not My Responsibility'

[DailyCaller] “As I said, I’m the Sheriff, my name’s on the door,” Israel said. “The people responsible are the ones who took the calls and didn’t follow up on them, as it was with the FBI, as it was with any person.”

“Leaders are responsible for the agency, but leaders are not responsible for a person,” Israel told the station. “I gave him a gun. I gave him a badge. I gave him the training. If he didn’t have the heart to go in, that’s not my responsibility.”

Sheriff Israel, who was reelected in 2016 as a Democrat with 72 percent of the vote, earlier in the day admitted he knew about his officer’s failure to act during the massacre during a CNN town hall where he blamed the National Rifle Association for the killings.

Judge, lawyer off case after coordinating a ruling in corruption probe
[Jpost] Judge Ronit Pozansky-Katz stepped down from the "Bezeq-media case" on Sunday after she was caught exchanging text messages with Israel Securities Authority attorney Eran Shaham- Shavit about detention proceedings.

The latest twist in the investigation ‐ for which two of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s aides have been in police custody for the past week ‐ was first reported by Channel 10 news. That was followed by an announcement from Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked and Supreme Court Justice Esther Hayut saying they would refer Pozansky-Katz, the pre-trial judge in what is known as Case 4000, for potential disciplinary action.

Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit also ordered a disciplinary probe of Shaham- Shavit on Sunday, who will be suspended pending completion of the probe against him. Photographs of the texting between Pozansky-Katz and Shaham- Shavit appeared to show them planning how many days of detention various suspects in Case 4000 would get. There was no comment by press time from the Securities Authority.

IDF Officer After Northern Drill: We Have Surprises Waiting for Hezbollah
[ALGEMEINER] The IDF conducted a large-scale drill this past week that simulated potential ground incursions by elite Hezbollah forces into northern Israel during future conflicts, the Hebrew news site Walla reported on Sunday.

In such scenarios, the IDF believes the Iran-backed Shi’a terrorist group will use massive barrages of short-range fire to enable its fighters to cross the border from Leb into Israel, according to Walla.

"I very much respect Hezbollah, but we’ve honed our ability to take the sting out of them," Col. Manny Liberty ‐ the commander of the IDF’s 769th Brigade ‐ told Walla. "We have a number of surprises waiting for Hezbollah."

Referring to the current situation along the Israel-Leb frontier, Col. Liberty said, "Hezbollah is present all the time, it is not hiding in the rear. We are seeing more attempts to create provocations...but Hezbollah is very careful not to stretch the rope."

"Hezbollah hasn’t finished its job in Syria [where it has been fighting on behalf of the Assad regime], but it also hasn’t abandoned its array in southern Leb," Liberty noted.

Evil sisters of Islamic State play victim
[THEAUSTRALIAN.AU] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
has been destroyed. The war is over. The free world is secure. Order is restored. The worst genocidal jihadis are dead. The rest are contained. Your family is safe to commemorate Anzac Day, celebrate Easter and walk through the CBD without fearing the infernal shriek "Allahu Akbar". There’s only one problem: here comes the bride, all dressed in black.

The black widows of Islamic State are creeping out of the caliphate and into the West. Having lost the battle to enslave women and girls for the caliphate, the brides of genocide are demanding the right of return to the countries declared enemies of Allah. They’re piling on feminine wiles to escape their well-deserved fate six feet under the crumbling caliphate. Prepare yourself for a season of female jihad filled with crocodile tears, protests of innocence and a stock-standard victim script worthy of an Oscar.

India-Pakistan
Muslims burn piles of Pampers nappies, call for ban because cartoon cat's whiskers printed on them 'look like the Arabic spelling of Mohammed'
[DailyMail]
  • Protesters in India are calling for a boycott of Pampers nappies

  • Activists from the Islamic group Darsgah Jihad-o-Shahadat yesterday lodged a formal complaint with the police in Hyderabad

  • They have taken offense with a cartoon cat appearing on the product

  • Lines of its face resemble the word Prophet Mohammed in Arabic
No, they don’t. Not even if you squint really hard, based on the example given at the link.
  • Groups have staged 'Pampers burnings', setting fire to nappies in the streets

  • Owner Procter and Gamble said design was intended as 'innocent animated cat’

If the mobs are buying diapers to burn, P&G will be happy to sell more product. If they are simply taking them from the shops, it is a matter for the police. The accusation, however, is hysterical nonsense — P&G has been in Saudi Arabia since 1956, entering India almost a decade later. If there were an issue with the packaging artwork, the Saudi employees would have pointed it out.

Wikipedia has this about Darsgah Jihad-o-Shahadat:

... (literally The Centre for Jihad and Martyrdom)[1] is an Islamist group based in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, with branches in the state of Kerala.[2] The group claims to have trained about 50,000 people in self-defence techniques at its training camps in Hazrat Ujale Shah Idgah grounds at Saidabad and Purani Haveli.[3][4]

The training camps were closed in 2013 after the death of Shaik Mahboob Ali and restarted in 2017.[5] Some of the former members of this group are accused of joining al-Qaeda and its affiliates and of involvement in multiple terror attacks across India.

The article also lists connections to Indian Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Al Qaeda affiliates Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami, Tehreek-Ghalba-e-Islam, and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.

Europe
EU tells US to go suck eggs and kisses Iran.
[ATimes] The European Commission vice-president for energy union, Maros Sefcovic, said during a visit to Azerbaijan last week that the European Union was ready to negotiate Iran’s participation in the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), a system of pipelines designed to pump Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region to southern Italy via Georgia, Turkey, Greece and Albania.

The European bloc is keen to get its hands on Iranian gas and has already held talks with Tehran on the issue. This means it is unlikely that the EU will budge on its opposition to US President Donald Trump’s demands for revising the Iran nuclear deal.

Two different visions
It has been reported that the US State Department is trying to persuade the EU to collaborate in improving the pact that Iran and six world powers (the United States, China, Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom and France) signed in 2015. Aimed at reining in potential military applications of Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic and financial penalties, the accord has been criticized by Trump since his presidential campaign.

Trump is seeking an additional agreement to limit Iran’s uranium enrichment permanently – under the current terms, restrictions expire in 2025. The US commander-in-chief also wants a stronger regime of inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the imposition of new sanctions if Tehran develops or tests long-range missiles. He says that without these changes the Islamic Republic will be able to make a nuclear bomb.

So while Trump has basically sent an ultimatum to the EU, the State Department has chosen a softer approach, inviting the European grouping and its major countries to consider working together on what Washington views as the Iran nuclear pact’s deficiencies.

European energy companies could play a major role in modernizing Iranian gas infrastructure. Possible new US sanctions against Tehran are clearly at odds with this design.

In its National Security Strategy, the Trump administration says it will help allies and partners reduce reliance on “those that use energy to coerce.” Paradoxically, Washington’s confrontational position toward Iran risks undermining the EU’s efforts to diversify its energy suppliers and, accordingly, degrade Russia’s ability to use gas exports to influence European geopolitics.

A total of seven combatants were killed in the fighting in Russian rebel held Donetsk, according to Russian language news accounts.

According to press release by the Donetsk Peoples Republic Ministry of Defense, Ukrainians fired on an ambulance during a ceasefire in Dokhuchaevsk, south of Donetsk city on Friday.

According to the news release, both sides agreed to a ceasefire in order for a rebel operated ambulance to enter Ukrainian territory to retrieve a wounded rebel soldier. The request was made by the joint group of senior Russian and Ukrainian officers, who monitor the fighting in the region.

The unidentified soldier was wounded by Ukrainian artillery fired by elements of the 93rd separate mechanized brigade. An ambulance was sent after a presumed agreement by both sides was finalized.

The ambulance was struck by an antitank missile or rocket from the Ukrainian side, presumably from the same unit. Two others, a medical orderly and a driver were killed in the attack. Rebel media said the ambulance was clearly marked with a red cross.

The rebels said the Ukrainians publicly presented the attack as an attack on a BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle which had wandered into the Ukrainian security zone.

Rebel media also reported that Ukrainian artillery fired on the town of Gorlovka, north of Donetsk city, damaged a number of residences. The report said five buildings were damaged and a number of power lines were damaged as well. The artillery attacks took place over two days, Friday and Saturday.

Rebel media also reported that one rebel soldier was killed in Ukrainian artillery attacks on Sunday, but the news release did not elaborate.

Lugansk

A total of two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and another two were wounded near the Svetlodarsk region Friday, when a small patrol was struck by a Ukrainian mine.

The soldiers were part of the Ukrainian 43rd Special Purpose Battalion, attached to the 54th Separate Brigade. Its area of operation is the Svetlodarsk region

Ukrainian media said that rebel artillery struck the village of Luganskoye, damaging resideintial buildings and power line on Saturday night. According to the report, rebels used 122mm artillery in the attack.

On Sunday, Ukrainian media reported one Ukrainian soldier was killed in rebel artillery attacks around the Svetlodarsk region, near Zaistevo and Luganskoye.

Ukrainian media said that rebel direct fire weapons were fired on Ukrainian positions at Kryminskoye and Novolugansk.

Ex-Trump aide paid Europeans to lobby for pro-Russia Ukraine
[DAWN] Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s ex-campaign chief Paul Manafort secretly paid a group of former senior European politicians more than two million euros ($2.5 million) to lobby for Ukraine’s then-leader backed by Russia, US prosecutors have claimed.

The charges, lodged in a Washington federal court by Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Friday, said Manafort retained the so-called Hapsburg Group of onetime politicians to "take positions favourable to Ukraine, including by lobbying the United States."

The group, which operated from 2012-2013, was managed by an unnamed "former European chancellor," who along with other members of the group lobbied US politicians and White House officials, the indictment alleged.

They were to "appear to be providing their independent assessments of government of Ukraine actions, when in fact they were paid lobbyists for Ukraine," according to the indictment.

Manafort, 68, has been accused by the team investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections and possible collusion with the Trump campaign of money laundering, tax fraud and banking fraud connected to work he did for Viktor Yanukovych from 2006-2014.

Man accuses FIA of torture
[DAWN] The man, who had suffered serious injuries after allegedly jumping off the FIA building on Temple Road on Friday, was said to be ’stable’ now.

Sajid Masih of Shahdara was called by the Cyber Crime Wing at their Regal Chowk Office for allegedly uploading some blasphemous content on a Facebook group.

Sajid approached the FIA to record his statement where he allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of the building. He was rushed to Ganga Ram Hospital and later shifted to General Hospital from where he was taken to Mayo. Civil Lines police registered a suicide attempt case against him.

Earlier, Shahdara police registered a blasphemy case against his cousin, Patras Masih, for allegedly posting blasphemous material on Facebook page Paglon ki Basti.

Sajid in his video statement to the media said the FIA had called him to their headquarters at Regal Chowk to record statement. He said the officials allegedly tortured him and snatched his mobile phone.

"They asked me to abuse myself, but I refused to do so. Later, they asked me to sexually assault my cousin, but I remained silent and jumped from the building," he said.

FIA Deputy Director Khwaja Hammad rejected the allegation and said the suspect was called for inquiry because he was a member of the Facebook group allegedly involved in sharing blasphemous material.

He said the suspect was asked to unlock the phone as a result he got panicked and jumped from the building. "No one had even touched the suspect," he said. He said they did not go for breaking the password because it could cause data loss.

#1  Were any Moslems involved in this matter ? We really mustn't judge other people's cultural tastes, after all. To them its seems completely and understandably appropriate. Over there everyone does it and it is completely accepted as normal.
After all, we mustn't forget that Mohammed himself ( PBUH ) had a "wife" who was nine years old and 14 other women who shared his bed. And Moslems today find it totally acceptable to enjoy four women as wives ( if one can afford such things financially)..maybe more.
And who are we to judge? Besides NBC has transgendered coverage of the Olympics and he even wears a tiara while he gushes about his favorite male figure skater.

Air Force Cancels $7B JSTARS Program
[Yahoo] The Air Force is canceling the planned refresh of its Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) airborne command and surveillance aircraft, a $7 billion blow for program competitors Boeing (NYSE: BA), Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), and Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC).

Funding for the JSTARS recapitalization was not included in the 2019 Pentagon budget request, with the Air Force expected to instead try to develop a program that would link together sensors from a number of sources to complete the same tasks.

The original JSTARS program was first deployed in the early 1980s, designed to use airpower to detect and track multiple enemy targets and help coordinate attacks against targets. The Air Force in December 2016 launched a request for proposal for the engineering, manufacturing, and development of a fleet of 17 new aircraft with an estimated price tag of at least $6.9 billion.

However, critics have argued that the platform, based on relatively slow-moving planes, was outdated because those planes represent easy targets in a combat theater. Advances in sensor and radar technologies also helped contribute to the downfall of JSTARS. New, smarter, and smaller equipment can increasingly be placed on a variety of air, space, sea, and land systems and coordinate in real time, diminishing the need for a flying hub.

Phone call between Trump, Mexican president goes south
[FoxNews] Provisional plans for President Donald Trump to host his Mexican counterpart in Washington have been put on hold, White House officials said Saturday.
... leaving him more time to get on with the work of presidenting...
The postponement of plans to meet this month or in March followed a testy telephone call between the two leaders earlier last week, the Washington Post reported, citing information from U.S. and Mexican officials.

Trump and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto spoke for 50 minutes Tuesday, but reached a deadlock when Trump said he wouldn’t publicly acknowledge Mexico’s refusal to pay for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, Reuters reported.

That ain't Julie Andrews
According to a Mexican official, Trump lost his temper during the conversation because he thought it was unreasonable for Pena Nieto to want Trump to back off from the idea.

Trump’s promise to make Mexico pay for the wall was a staple of his 2016 campaign for the presidency.

Trump has since requested $23 billion in his latest budget proposal to Congress ‐ the majority of which would go toward building the wall.

More than 200 protest deportations at Gary airport under eye of armed SWAT officers
[ChicagoTribune] Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Air Operations started using the airport for detainee removal flights in June 2013, and 12,509 people have been flown out as of June 28, 2017. The immigrant detainees are bused into Gary from a detention center about 40 miles away in Broadview, Ill.

They are then flown to Brownsville, Texas, near the Mexican border, for deportation. Although President Donald Trump has taken a hard line on immigration, more than 2 million people were deported during President Barack Obama's time in office.

Northwest Indiana Resistance's Ruth Needleman, co-organizer with L.E. Whitman, said it was upsetting to watch people climb into the plane. The group is a coalition of regional action groups organized after the Trump administration's travel ban was enacted in January 2017.

The protest drew activists from Black Lives Matter Gary, Fight for $15, Calumet Strategy Group, Northwest Indiana Federation of Interfaith Organizations, Social Action Temple Israel, among others. Other protesters arrived via bus from Chicago.

It also drew a sizable presence from organized labor — including United Steel Workers members from as far away as Houston.

Gary/Chicago International Airport spokesman David Goldenberg because it receives federal funding like other airports, they are unable to refuse federal flights from operating at the airport.

has released photos over the Telegram chat application of jihadists who took part in an attack against Egyptian army headquarters, where the terrorist organization says the military operations are run against Wilyat Sinai, the Egyptian branch of IS.

The photos show four organization members labeled in a caption as "kamikazes" who carried out "an extensive attack against the 101 Brigade at El Arish."
When might that have been?
Wilyat Sinai also said in the release that dozens of Egyptian soldiers were killed and maimed in the attack and that the four gunnies in the photos detonated their boom jackets after running out of ammunition.

Two of the suicide kaboomers were said to have been Egyptians and the other two Paleostinians from the Gazoo Strip.

According to Abu Baker al-Maqdesi, a senior jihadist in Gazoo, the two Paleostinians used to be members of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,’ so-called military wing. al-Maqdesi identified them as Abdelrahman Banat, from the neighborhood of Sheikh Radwan in the north of Gazoo City and Tareq al-Sheiq, from Rafah in the south of the Gazoo Strip.

The two defected from the ranks of Hamas one year ago and joined IS in Sinai, he said.

Sheriff faces mounting criticism over Florida school massacre
[REUTERS] A Florida sheriff came under mounting criticism on Sunday for his deputies’ response to this month’s deadly high school shooting and potential warning signs as dozens of state politicians called for his ouster and the governor ordered an independent inquiry.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel insisted that only one of his armed deputies is so far known to have been at fault for staying outside the school while it was under attack rather than entering to confront the gunman who shot 17 people to death.

That deputy, identified as the school’s assigned resource officer, Scot Petersen, has resigned rather than face suspension and possible dismissal after his actions were caught on video during the massacre, the sheriff acknowledged last week.

News outlets including CNN and NBC have since reported that at least three more armed Broward County sheriff’s deputies were present on the scene, taking cover behind their vehicles instead of immediately going into the school.

#2  According to Sundance, the failures of Broward County Sheriff Department were not caused by incompetence but by a concerted plan to reduce racial imbalance and reported incidence of crime by high school students in the county by not reporting many crimes including felonies and not arresting students for committing them.
That is why Mr. Cruz had no criminal record, and why a large number of reports about his behavior were ignored by the Sheriff's office.
This disgraceful behavior by the Sheriff's department earned the Broward School system praise and financial rewards from the Obama administration and the state of Florida for its supposed prowess in reducing crime by its high school students, and equalizing crime rates among racial groups.
My question is: was the FBI aware of this, and did its failure to react to reports stem from its cooperation with this scandalous behavior by the Broward Sheriff's department?

Egypt's Sisi inaugurates new counter-terrorism command east of Suez Canal
[AlAhram] Dressed in military uniform, Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated on Sunday the East of the Suez Canal Counter-Terrorism command, a statement by presidential front man Bassam Rady said.

Several top state and army officials attended the event, including Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi, Army Chief of Staff Mohammed Farid and others.

The inauguration comes during the ongoing comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018, which was launched on 9 February by the Egyptian Armed Forces to counter terrorism in North Sinai and other areas across the nation.

"The inauguration of the Eastern Suez Canal counter-terrorism command comes within the framework of developing the Armed Forces' capabilities to carry out their sacred duty of protecting the homeland with maximum efficiency," the statement said.

"The president was briefed on the forces and the command's facilities before he visited the East of the Canal Command's headquarters, where tactics for Operation Sinai 2018 are planned," the statement added.

El-Sisi was also briefed by Army Chief of Staff Mohammed Farid on the results of the operation over the last 15 days.

"The president clarified that the current operation in Sinai already began in 2014 and will carry on until 2022, and said that Sinai's development expenses are expected to reach EGP 225 billion, a huge figure that requires the solidarity of all Egyptians to acquire," the statement added.

Yemen's national army claims Taiz, Nihm
Yemen’s National Army gained foothold on Friday in strategic Taiz and Nihm district positions.

Fierce battles on both fronts killed at least 40 Houthi gunmen, while Saudi-led Arab Coalition air support destroyed two ballistic missiles fired by coup militia towards Marib.

Coalition air forces backing the constitutional government have contributed significantly to the latter’s advances nationwide against the Iran-backed insurgency.

Such developments coincided with the strikes of the Coalition aircraft on the positions of the Houthi militias in more than one front, and with artillery shelling of the Yemeni army against Houthi strongholds in Al Bayda fortifications.

According to official military sources over 20 Houthis were killed and wounded in violent clashes with the Yemeni army in eastern Taiz fronts.

“Government forces launched a violent attack on militia outposts in the area of Adana and the hills of Ja'sah, east of Taiz, killing and wounding 20 militiamen,” government news agency Saba said in a statement, citing military sources.

The agency added that militia top leader, known as ‘Abu Mohammed,’ was killed two days ago alongside others in clashes near The Republican Palace and east of the province.

Official Yemeni army website (September Net) reported that government forces “launched a striking attack on Houthi positions of Sha'abi and Al Samdid villages, nestled east of Lowazm hill, making significant advances towards a number of outposts in eastern Taiz.”

The website pointed out that Houthi militias “bombarded a number of residential neighborhoods east of the city, wounding 5 civilians, among which were 3 children.”

In a subsequent statement, Maj. Gen. Sadeq Sarhan confirmed that on Friday night, the army managed to establish full control over the strategic Lowazm hill east of Taiz.

Sarhan revealed that army forces secured the strategic location, and still delivered a major blow to Houthi ranks, registering the deaths of more than 30 combatants.

Houthi ranks have largely collapsed on themselves and many were reported to have abandoned their posts in the battlefield.

Kop dies defending Kirkuk oil facility
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Three policemen, tasked with guarding an oilfield in Iraq’s oil-rich province of Kirkuk, were killed and injured in an attack by Islamic State militants on Saturday evening, a security source said.

“IS members attacked an oil police station, located near the oil well no. 43 in Khubbaz field, leaving a policeman killed and third injured,” the source told Al-Arabiya.net

The attack, according to the source, is the first one launched by the militants since Iraqi troops recaptured Hawija town, located southwest of Kirkuk, in October.

Another source told Xinhua news agency that the attack was carried out by 10 to 15 IS and that confrontations broke out between the attackers and the police force, resulting in the killing of two policemen and the wounding of three others.

Kirkuk, which Iraqi troops retook from the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, has five oilfields of Papa karkar, Havana, Bai Hassan, Jambur and Khubbaz.

Ghouta bombing won’t stop as army keeps up pressure
[DAWN] SYRIA continues to mass its armed forces around the east Ghouta enclave of Damascus, including army units commanded by Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
’s brother Maher and by Colonel Soheil Hassan, the "Tiger" whose military victories across the country have made him legendary among Assad’s supporters.

Instead of moving by night ‐ the traditional tactic adopted by the army in the war ‐ vast quantities of Syrian armour have been humming along the highways to the capital in broad daylight from Aleppo and Homs in the north, from Deraa in the south, and from the countryside of Damascus itself. The Syrian authorities want them to be seen, to show the Salafist tough guys of Ghouta know how their battle will end.

Despite Russia’s veto at the UN on Thursday night, however, negotiations have continued between three rebel groups and the Syrian army ‐ under the direct mediation of the Russians ‐ to establish "humanitarian corridors" and "escape routes" for the tens of thousands of civilians trapped inside Ghouta, the vast area of suburban slums and farmland held by Islamist and other rebel groups since 2013. Almost identical talks took place between Islamists and the government over eastern Aleppo before its fall in Dec 2016. Bloodshed and negotiations have long been a feature of the Syrian war.

But despite the West’s rhetoric ‐ and the UN’s constant refrain that the civilians of eastern Ghouta are experiencing "hell on earth" ‐ the massive Syrian and Russian bombardment is going to continue. The Islamist Nusra faction, the "child" of Al Qaeda of 9/11 infamy, appears to be more reluctant to surrender to the Syrians ‐ even if allowed to leave with its light weapons ‐ than Soddy Arabia

...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...

#5  It's possible we can't afford an open break with Turkey because a good chunk of our air assets are operating out of Incirlik. As recently as last October, they were used to help retake Raqqa. I suspect any break with Turkey, if it materializes, will have to wait on the removal of our men and equipment from Turkey. It's also a possibility that a good chunk of Erdogan's rhetoric is part of long-standing anti-American more bark than bite BS that comes from many of our allies, including Greece.

Argentina fires on Chinese vessel 'fishing illegally'
[FOX] BUENOS AIRES, Argentina ‐ Argentina's coast guard says it has opened fire on a Chinese vessel illegally fishing in its waters.

Nobody was reportedly injured and the Chinese fishermen were not detained.

The Argentine Naval Prefecture said in a statement that its guards fired on the Jing Yuan 626 on Thursday after the squid fishing vessel was caught in an exclusive economic zone.

The coast guard said Friday that four other boats sailing under the Chinese flag tried to prevent the capture of the vessel by attempting to collide with coast guard boats.

The operation was called off by Argentina's foreign ministry after the vessel was chased for nearly eight hours.

Earlier in the month, the coast guard said it had detained a Spanish ship carrying more than 705,000 pounds (320,000 kilos) of illegal fish.

They tend to group into enormous swarms during mating season (which could be now, but I don't follow the SquidBook® social pages enough to verify). The more nets you have in the water, the more you catch.

The ChiCom ships might have been coordinating their net placements to capitalize on that.

30 ISIS Bad Guys die in Mosul
Nineveh (Iraqinews.com) – Iraqi troops killed on Sunday 30 Islamic State (IS) militants while hiding inside a cave in western Mosul, the Turkish Anadolu Agency quoted an army official as saying.

“Upon accurate intelligence reports, Iraqi troops fired 27 missiles from a Stryker armored vehicle against a cave in Al-Ba’aj district, 150 km west of Mosul, leaving the cave completely destroyed,” Major Abbas Abdel Azim from the 20th brigade of the Iraqi army said.

“All 30 IS militants who were inside the cave were killed in the bombardment,” Abdel Azim pointed out, revealing that the cave is believed to be used as an explosives depot as a huge explosion was heard following the missile attack.

California Democratic Party doesn't endorse Feinstein re-election bid
[FoxNews] The California Democratic Party will not endorse Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s re-election bid this year, with delegates at the party’s annual convention giving the majority of votes to her top primary challenger, progressive State Sen. Kevin de Leon.

De Leon got 54 percent of the vote, compared to 37 percent for the more moderate Feinstein, according to results released Sunday. But neither Democrat will receive the state party endorsement because they failed to reach the 60 percent threshold.

The vote totals were not a surprise, considering the state party’s liberal leaning.

And Feinstein leads de Leon by 29 percentage points in the primary race, according to the most recent RealClearPolitics polls average.

Feinstein, the oldest member of the Senate at 84, is seeking a sixth term.

Arabia
2 die in twin bombings in Aden
[AAWSAT] At least 5 people were killed and 31 wounded as two car suicide bombers and gunmen tried to storm the headquarters of a counter-terrorism unit in Aden on Saturday, security sources said.

Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, vowed during telephone conversations with Interior Minister Ahmed al-Maysari and with the director of Aden's security, Shalal Shaea, to pursue the people responsible for the attacks.

The President stated that those terrorist operations would not discourage the legitimacy in its fight against terrorism in Yemen.

Witnesses and security sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the first suicide bomber detonated his car in the outer gate of the anti-terrorist headquarters in the Golden Coast district of al-Tawahi district south of Aden, before the second suicide bomber followed him with a second car explosion.

Sources added that "about 7 other masked gunmen began to fire their machine guns after the bombings, in an attempt to storm the headquarters, but security men and guards were able to thwart the attempt after a heavy exchange of fire."

The attack, according to medical sources, killed 6 people, including a child, and injured about 35 other security elements and civilians.

Activists circulated pictures of the attack, as ambulances rushed to the scene, amid high death toll due to the severe injuries of some of them.

Since the defeat of Houthis in the city two years ago, suicide attacks and bombings targeted security headquarters in Aden, on the hands of Yemeni branch of ISIS and al-Qaeda militants, along with assassinations of several members of the security forces, government officials and party leaders.

Two days ago, Yemeni army forces, backed by the Arab Coalition, completed a military operation west of Mukalla in Hadramout province, destroying the remaining sites of al-Qaeda militants in al-Mesini valley.

Aden security chief Shaea said in a statement after the attack that security forces had foiled the insurgents' plan, in which two car bombs were detonated and a number of gunmen tried to approach the security building.

He added that: "the vigilance of the security personnel has thwarted the plan, and the terrorists were immediately killed before they could reach the external gate of the counter-terrorism headquarters."

According to Shaea, five people were killed in the attack, including a child and 31 injured civilians, and 7 were wounded from the "Second Battalion – Storm" force located opposite to the security headquarters.

President Hadi phoned Minister Maysari describing the terror attack as "cowardly and terrorist". He ordered all security authorities to work on a thorough investigation to probe in this terrorist operation.

Hadi said such acts won't soften the Yemeni people resolve to materialize their will for achieving stability and dignified life.

He prayed for the fallen soldiers and civilians, wishing the injured speedy recovery and vowing to reach the outlawed elements and bring them to justice, according to Saba state-news agency.
Al Ahram adds:
At least 14 people were killed and 40 maimed when Islamist car jacket wallahs and button men tried to storm the headquarters of a counter-terrorism unit in the southern port city of Aden on Saturday, security and medical sources said.

group, in a statement carried by its Amaq news agency, grabbed credit for what it described as two "martyrdom operations" targeting the camp in Tawahi district in south-western Aden.

The agency provided no immediate evidence for the claim.

Al Qaeda-linked group claims Mali attack that killed 2 French troops
Unexpectedly.
[AFRICANEWS] A Malian Lion of Islam group with links to al Qaeda has grabbed credit for an attack that killed two French soldiers in the West African country on Wednesday.

... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
In October, bully boyz killed four U.S. troops just over the border in Niger, sparking a debate about America’s combat role in the vast and unpoliced scrubland just south of the Sahara.

JNIM, which has been responsible for other attacks in Mali and has been linked to the kidnapping of at least six western hostages in recent years, grabbed credit for Wednesday’s attack late on Friday on two Mauritanian websites, through which the group has previously communicated.

Islamist bully boyz took over northern Mali in 2012 before French forces pushed them back in 2013. But since then the threat has crept back, and attacks have occurred further and further south, into neighbouring Niger and Burkina Faso, and as far afield as Ivory Coast.

In a bid to counter the bad boys, international donors on Friday pledged half a billion dollars towards the G5 Sahel, an international force made up of troops from Mali, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.

Tying All The Loose Threads Together – DOJ, FBI, DoS, White House: Op. Latitude
[ConservativeTreehouse] There are so many threads of information surrounding the 2016 operation to conduct political surveillance on the Trump campaign by various officials and offices within corrupt structures of government it’s easy to get lost. However, if we take all the various bits of information and placing them together a more clear picture emerges.

The {Go Deep Threads} look like this: The FISA-702(17) ’About Queries’; the political opposition research of Fusion-GPS and Glenn Simpson; the DOJ officials and FBI officials; Bruce and Nellie Ohr; the U.S. State Department and U.N Ambassador Samantha Power; the Clinton-Steele Dossier and Christopher Steele; the FISA Title-1 surveillance warrant; and the unmasking by former Senior White House officials: Lisa Monaco and Susan Rice.

Here’s the basic overview of how all those threads come together to paint a picture.

The FBI group was participating in a plan to exonerate Hillary Clinton. That same FBI group was simultaneously conducting opposition research on candidate Donald Trump and the larger construct of his campaign team. Those FBI officials were allied by entities outside official government structures. The ’outside group’ were "contractors". It is likely one of the contractors was Fusion-GPS or entities in contact with Fusion-GPS. {Go Deep}

The contractors were using FBI intelligence databases to conduct opposition research "searches" on Trump campaign officials. This is where the use of FISA-702(16)(17) "To/From" and "About" queries comes in. {Go Deep} This FISA abuse was the allowed but unofficial process identified in early 2016 by NSA internal auditors.

This is where NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers steps in on April 18th, 2016, and stops the FBI contractors from having any further access. {Go Deep}

What follows is a huge outcry from the Deep State for Obama to fire Admiral Rogers for visiting Trump Towers. Obama does not act.

group fighters on trial. In this exclusive report, FRANCE 24 investigates the anti-terror tribunals in the city of Qamishli.

AJK president seeks global support in controlling violence in India-held Kashmir
[DAWN] Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK) President Sardar Masood Khan called for greater support from the international community in controlling the recent surge in violence in India-held Kashmire.

Addressing a convention of British councillors, lord mayors and mayors in London, Khan remarked that the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council (UNSC) should intercede to take full cognisance of the situation in India-held Kashmire and "stop massacres, killings, and illegal detentions".

The AJK president said, "The conflict of Jammu and Kashmire is the most obscure in the region where thousands of people are killed, maimed, tortured, and incarcerated every year."

Unlike other conflicts, Kashmire has little visibility on the international radar and remains the least reported conflict, he said, adding that the world powers should play their "rightful role instead of acting as bystanders in the Kashmire dispute".

Khan asked: "Has the UN not intervened in South Sudan, Mali, Central African Republic, Yemen, and Libya, without waiting for the consent of the parties to the conflict?"

The AJK president was of the view that Pakistain should no longer hold dialogue with India on Kashmire because of three reasons: "Kashmire is an international, not a bilateral, dispute; secondly, India has closed all doors for bilateral dialogue; and thirdly, the rounds of bilateral engagement so far have proved to be a mirage and totally unproductive."

Iraq
Iraqi troops smoke 2 ISIS Bad Guys in Salahuddin
Salahuddin (Iraqinews.com) – Paramilitary troops killed on Sunday two Islamic State (IS) militants and seized a pair of explosive belts during a security campaign in Salahuddin province.

In a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Alghad Press, the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said, “During a security campaign to track down the Islamic State group in Salahuddin province, a pro-government force of al-Hashd al-Shaabi came under attack by a group of IS militants but the troops managed to repulse the attack and killed two of them.”

“The troops also seized two explosive belts were planned to target civilians and security forces,” the statement read, adding that the security campaign was launched upon accurate intelligent reports.

Popular Mobilization Forces, an alliance of volunteer Shia paramilitary forces, have actively backed the Iraqi government’s military campaign against IS since 2014, when they were formed upon a top Shia clergy edict to counter the Jihadist group.

PMF won official recognition as a national force late 2016, becoming under the command of the prime minister, who is also the supreme commander of the armed forces.

#1  Now, now, Danni: Ben Gurion wasn't that bad.
He (IMO) screwed up not cleaning the Arabs out from Israel in 1948 - nobody would notice at the time, and we would be saved endless problems. Especially if we followed the precedent in 1967.

And the absorption of Sephardic Jews could have done better - on the other hand, know any other country who absorbed twice it's original population in emigrants in a decade?

As regards Altalena, however, no country can afford independent military/political organizations - Israel wouldn't exist today if Altalena weren't sank.

Egyptian security delegation arrives in Gaza for discussions with Hamas on faltering reconciliation accord
[AlAhram] A top Egyptian security delegation arrived in the Paleostinian Gazoo Strip Sunday to follow up on the implementation of a stumbling political reconciliation agreement between rival Paleostinian factions Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", and Fatah.

According to media reports, the Egyptian delegation is headed by Major General Sameh Nabil from the Egyptian Intelligence, Egypt's general consul to Ramallah Khaled Samy as well as other officials.

Earlier Saturday, Hamas front man Fawzi Barhoum said the Egyptian delegation will follow up on the execution of the reconciliation agreement, which was signed in Cairo in October 2017, adding that talks with Egyptian officials in Cairo early this month were positive.

"Hamas will present needed facilitations and necessary measures to help the Egyptian delegation succeed in implementing the reconciliation and boosting steps of confidence-building to achieve the desired national unity, especially in light of huge challenges facing the Paleostinian cause and threats to the rights of the Paleostinian people," Barhoum said in a Facebook post Saturday evening.

In a tweet Saturday, senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk said that he hopes that the Paleostinian people don't lose hope in full reconciliation and national unity and can face "conspiracies that aim to eliminate the Paleostinian cause", mentioning the so-called "Deal of the Century".

The "Deal of the Century" ‐ a plan under development by the US ‐ will reportedly exclude Jerusalem from a future Paleostinian state, as a solution to the Paleostinian-Israeli conflict.

"What has been accomplished as understandings until now is enough for a re-launch of the (reconciliation) accord and stop the pain and agony for our people," Abu Marzouk said.

In media statements, Fatah front man Atef Abu Saif said Saturday that he hopes the visit by the Egyptian delegation would end up with an understanding granting "more powers to the Paleostinian government and removing hurdles facing its activities in the Strip."

Sunday's visit comes a few weeks after a Hamas delegation led by the head of its politburo, Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
, arrived in Cairo discuss with Egyptian officials the security, reconciliation and humanitarian conditions in Gazoo.

Negotiations between the two main Paleostinian factions Hamas and Fatah to achieve Paleostinian reconciliation, brokered by Egyptian Intelligence, led to an inked agreement in October to end the 10-year-old row between the two groups.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
implementation of the agreement has since suffered setbacks, including an exchange of accusations of non-commitment to the deal brokered by Egypt.

India-Pakistan
Alone at FATF
[DAWN] NOW that the news from the just-concluded round of meetings of the Financial Action Task Force held in Gay Paree has been digested, it is important to focus on the fact that two countries that we are repeatedly told to think of in brotherly terms ‐ China and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
‐ both abandoned Pakistain during the proceedings, opening the way for the motion advanced by the United States to grey list the country’s financial system.

If there is one thing to learn from this episode, it must be this: in ties between countries, there are no ’friends’ and no ’brothers’. There are only interests and bargaining positions.

There is nothing wrong in speaking of friendly relations between countries, but behind closed doors, when the real bargaining gets going, only interests should be in the driving seat.

It is now becoming increasingly clear that Pakistain is drifting towards international isolation mainly due to its policy of using groups designated by the world community as terrorist outfits as instruments of foreign policy.

This was the main issue at the Gay Paree meetings. And this is the reason why Pakistain could find no ’friends’ there.

This is precisely the state of affairs that the civilian government has been trying to warn the security establishment about for a number of years now, including in a series of meetings in late 2016 ‐ but evidently, these conversations did not lead to the desired actions.

FATF has been seeking one thing primarily from Pakistain: "fully implement UNSCR 1267" ever since the country was taken out of the so-called ’grey list’ back in 2015. The last grey listing happened due to a failure to pass the Anti Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act.

Once that act was passed in 2015, the next step was action against those groups and individuals that had been designated as Lions of Islam by the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
The years since then have been witness to a powerful, behind-the-scenes tussle over the pursuit of precisely this objective. The stop-and-go manner in which this objective has been pursued, ie taking limited action one day and then allowing matters to once again deteriorate, has now come to the end of the line as FATF prepares to grey list Pakistain’s financial system one more time in June.

The world, which includes our brotherly friends whom the foreign minister thanked in a prematurely triumphant tweet on Tuesday, is not impressed with what they see as this country’s continued intransigence.

There may well be an element of geopolitics at play here too. But the opportunities that have been made available to them to tighten the screws on Pakistain are the products of a deeply problematic foreign policy.

The warnings are now pouring in continuously: act against bad boy groups, or risk international isolation. Pakistain would do well to heed them for its own sake.

A Thought on Arming Teachers
Rolled over for a second day of discussions, as requested.
By swksvolFF

Wednesday nights some of us gather around the campfire and pick each others' brains, usually something about firearms. Not besieging Yorktown, but hey how is that holster, ya like it? Nothing usually serious but here I have a topic. I posted our conclusions in the O-Club but the response seems to be out of sorts. I will try to recreate with additions:

I was checking the topics on Wednesday when I came across Butler County Update: 250 Teachers Sign Up for 50 Seats at Concealed Carry Tng Session and the comment by trailing wife:

#1 At some point one of these volunteer defenders will shoot back and accidentally hit an innocent bystander. How are they, the school district, and the county to be protected from the inevitable lawsuits that will follow?

Seriously. I had to listen to Mr. Wife go on about that this morning.

Great question, because this will happen.

What we came up with is that there are pre-approved teachers/staff who will automatically be appointed Sheriff Deputy Pro Tem in the event of a shooting or other declared emergency. They will remain deputies until a ranking sheriff on-scene and/or incident commander relieves them of their temporary status. This will afford the teacher/staff legal, medical, and critical stress counseling benefits also afforded to the sheriff's department.

The sheriff, an elected position, is a county authority and can override municipal ordinances, city police, homeowner associations, and so forth.

Now, the sheriff is not going to like being exposed to said lawsuits, so there will need to be a certain degree of training required for said teachers/staff. At least the minimum conceal carry required by the state. I would suggest a marksmanship class. A first aid class with a focus on gunshot wounds would be good. Perhaps some time at one of those light gun places where they can run a trainee through real life scenarios. Deputy pro tems will be randomly drug tested, and after certification there will be refresher courses required.

Also for the sheriff's department to shield itself from lawsuits, there will need to be an agreed standard operating procedure for the teacher/staff if/when a situation develops, and there are going to be hard questions:

  • Are teacher/staff allowed to fire first? If so, under what circumstances?

  • Are teachers/staff allowed to actively pursue/engage shooter? If so, to what extent? Must teacher/staff end engagement to assist casualties before area is officially secure?

  • Are designated teachers/staff required to wear body cams?

  • Are designated teachers/staff required to identify themselves before action? If so, what commands and/or uniform is required?

Also, the Sheriff's Department could have a list of approved handgun and kit for teacher/staff, specifically a holster which is tamper proof so the firearm doesn't fall out or some student horseplay becomes tragic. Maybe actual restrictions on the firearm choice itself; no 1911s or Dirty Harry cannons.

Deputy pro tems will be professionally reviewed after any incident, just like permanent LEOs are.

I hear "If we can't afford crayons, how can we afford this!!11", a bullshit argument because out here parents purchase those school supplies. However, yes, this costs money. As far as training, there are a number of people who seem willing and able to provide pro bono training, if not at least a discount, to teachers/staff interested in such a thing. Our first thought is training and equipment could be written off as a business expense - firearm, 2 magazines, 200 rounds on time write off (addendum: have to pay that back if person leaves the profession). Another thought was philanthropy.

Another was increased pay. I was against this at first, as I considered this should be an all-volunteer program with none of the people who would enroll just for the pay increase. I did concede that the added responsibility, the equipment, and the time involved in trained does call for an increase in pay. Also, the increase in participation is a deterrent as well.

"Oh, but the budget is strapped anyway!" is a crock of shit. The money is there, it is just being used wrong or wasted. Equipment can be procured, perhaps with bake sales. Perhaps with reduced insurance rates. Perhaps a Safe School levy. Heck I have one just right over there I will likely never fire again, which would be perfect for such a deal. Guaranteed I'm not the only one.

****I think that covers the gist of the response. The rest is a post post post****

In light of that sheriff department being canvas bag full of snake shit, dunno, still an elected position yet subject to entrenchment. Now our Governor Brownback, among other things, standardized the firearm ownership laws so that every city and county has the exact same laws, eliminating the various city and county laws which in one way or another restricted firearm ownership.

Another thing which would work, and I think they just did this in Texas, is pass a law in which all government property that could not implement a secure area would allow the legal profession of a firearm. Sure, the big city courthouses would have their guards and detectors so no gun, but you go to a state park you are good to go. This was tried some four years ago, and the educational organizations started shitting porcupines causing the bill to get held up in the state congress, where I think it still sits.

Add this to constitutional carry, where a person can conceal carry without a license (training still highly advised, and being approved for a CC allows carry in reciprocity states), and we have all aspects except for legal protection, medical coverage if injured and stress counseling. A side effect of this law is local sheriffs could not automatically turn down conceal carry applications, which was happening.

Standardize the sheriff departments within a state on firearm procedures. Figure procedures at the county level for deputy pro-tem. Crap load of paperwork and lawyer time, but doable.

Please, this is an opinion piece by a circle of amateurs drinking decent scotch, and doesn't not represent the views of Rantburg or maybe even our own as we didn't break out the Big Chief notepad. If anything, this a conversation starter.

The best defensive strategy for this soft target is to not have any target clusters of children. Home schooling with 'tele-teaching' augmentation as necessary or appropriate.

#4  How did Cruz get into the building with an AR-15? I haven't seen any dicussion of this in the media? Seems like access to the building was lax. Was there perimter control of the grounds/building? Moreover, available info was not acted upon prior to the shooting. At least four sheriff's deputies were outside the building and didn't go into the school. Did the school have monitored video surveillance of the entranceways as well as the halls? Could a shooter be isolated, e.g. locked into a hallway to limit casualties? Arming trained teachers is fine but there were prevention measures that could have been implemented as well.

#6  Oh, great, give them a pea shooter that won't stop someone hyped on adrenaline, let alone any additional chemical additives. Stop means stop.

Had customers so big or so spun out I don't think anything less than a M2 would have solved foolishness right there, and nothing says dammit like letting customer check out a k-bar for sale and get that look on his face. I'm with you there.

The subparagraph there was the Sheriff's department will want a say in what its deputies carry. And here, especially with the holster (and this was brought up again at last night's campfire) where every school has at least that one kid who will and least want to prank someone carrying. At worse want to steal.

There was talk about not even carrying, but firearm in a lockbox. I think that is an absolutely horrible idea and defeats the whole purpose.

How did Cruz get into the building with an AR-15? I haven't seen any dicussion of this in the media?

Heh, I heard from the media he had it tucked into his waistband to conceal carry. There is security footage so somebody knows. Short answer is yes, then we get into bulk heads closing and all that. Did see a deal where a subject can be tracked real time, feed sent to LEO dispatch and forwarded on to responders with location.

Looks like every flag thrown was either picked up or ignored; total wiener flogging from macro to micro. There seems to have been every opportunity in the world, including after the shooting started, to cut this off. When people talk conspiracy to let this happen a la Roosevelt let Pearl Harbor happen, I have a hard to playing advocate because the pooch was so screwed it had two litters and begs for more. But that is ok, because the crime stats are down and graduation numbers are up in our sanctuary school. That means $$$$$$ for bonuses, raises, school board re-election, tenure and job security. Heck, probably need to hire two more secretaries to handle all this plan coming together. Crime stats down too, good for the local law enforcement come budget time. Yippie yippie yea! So to me, this isn't a firearm problem, looks like this shitmuncher was going to figure a way to hurt people no matter what.

To be clear, I think arming all teachers is a horrible idea. The thought is that those who choose the responsibility should have some legal protection with the caveat that actions are reviewable. Truth is some things some people should not be forced to do and expect anything other than a poor outcome. Firearms are definitely on that list, never mind the appropriate use of them. Rosie Odonnel on a ladder is another, then putting a chainsaw on her to cut down a limb.

#8  Some banks have a bullet-proof airlock type entrance that can be locked so a robber can be isolated and held as they try to escape. Combine with a metal detector and seal up anyone on their way into the school that sets off the system.

Not the total answer but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

#10  That video has been out for a long time. Doing a penguin shuffle about your living room is not moving. Much more impressive if he came down the stairs, or got out of his car went up the stairs and came in through that door.

Someone walks down the road with a rifle nonchalant, especially with the magazine out, I'll likely keep track of that person in a checking the runner at 1st base kind of way. Dude waddles up, lifts his shirt, and starts pulling a rifle it is game on. Right there. By the time he dinks around bringing his rifle out, monkey paws his way through an overstuff pocket to bring out one magazine and come to battery, dead 5, 10 times. This dude is under no pressure, in his own home, in his Sunday besties; that is not getting throat punched knee kicked pepper sprayed or dick punched. Don't even have to be armed, just rush him and he'll fall as he maneuvers backwards with a rifle down his pants. The only thing going for derp is everyone has the hashtag fever and don't pull their noses out of their PED.

Case in point - the media is just now finding this video and someone saw somewhere that 'it is legal to conceal carry a rifle in Florida.'

*something I thought of concerning Sheriff having a say in firearm choice - have a color scheme. Cerakote in a Hello Kitty or Barney such color scheme to help identify good guys from bad guys.

#13  To me the real issue is how accurate would a non-combatant be with a firearm in a high stress situation.

That is why I love the good old 1911A1. You do not have to be a good shot to take the fight out of the enemy. Even if they have body armor, the impact of the .45 ACP is such that ribs are broken and the force of the impact is enough to knock someone off their feet.

You can shoot someone in the big toe, the thumb, nick an ear, or hit their weapon and they are down long enough for a more carefully aimed shot.

Just point it and keep shooting until the magazine is empty...by that time the kids are out of the room and the shooter is discouraged.

#23  Texas Allows Teachers to Carry.

Texas school districts can choose between two plans — the Guardian Plan and the School Marshal Plan — to authorize employees to carry a firearm on school property. Debate around arming teachers and staff has surged in response to the recent school shootings.

Dax Gonzalez with the association said the it is aware of only one district in Texas that established a policy to implement the School Marshal Plan.

Agua Dulce ISD opted for the Guardian Plan because it's a bit more flexible, Superintendent Wayne Kelly has said. Trustees approved the implementation of the Agua Dulce School Guardian Program on Oct. 24, 2016.

Teachers and staff had to undergo a mental health evaluation and 80 hours of training by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to carry a weapon at district campuses, Kelly said, adding each petition to carry also has to be approved by the school board.

The Aransas Pass ISD board also is weighing the option of adopting a modified version of the Guardian Plan after Aransas Pass Chief of Police Eric Blanchard proposed it to trustees.

Blanchard said district employees who would be Guardians should be nominated by staff, undergo a mental health evaluation, be licensed to carry a firearm and show proficiency in using a firearm by going through the police department's campus carry program.

#30  My worry is that the shooters tend to come from the schools they shoot at, and they are also likely to know which teachers/buildings might be armed and which ones aren't.

Granted this is an extra level of complexity that might derail the plans before they even begin and thus worth a try, I'm just being devil's advocate.

#31  This is a very good discussion, thanks for the insights everyone. A couple of points.
1. Training should not be a one time event, it should be ongoing. Practice is required.
2. Time invested in training should not come out of teacher and staff vacation or free time.
3. This will still be a burden for some of the teachers and staff, so a monthly bonus is indicated.
4. This should be a federally supported (but not run) effort.
5. Lastly, the best close combat training I ever had involved being run through shoot houses. Training like this involves shoot / no-shoot decisions, shot accuracy and quick responses. It is very stressful (as they are timed and scored) and will be of immense value.
My two cents.

Rome’s Colosseum turned red to protest Pakistan blasphemy law
[DAWN] Rome’s ancient Colosseum was lit in red on Saturday in solidarity with persecuted Christians, particularly Asia Bibi who has been condemned to death under Pakistain’s blasphemy laws.

Hundreds gathered on a rainy night outside the Roman amphitheatre that is a symbol of the martyrdom of early Christians to hear the husband and daughter of Asia Bibi.

Bibi has been living on death row in Pakistain since 2010, when she was condemned on blasphemy charges.

"The aim of the blasphemy laws is [to] crush people who believe differently," Archbishop Nunzio Galantino, secretary general of the Italian bishops conference, told the gathering.

Bibi’s case drew international attention after the murder of two politicians who tried to intervene on her behalf.

At the Rome gathering, her husband Ashiq Masih said his wife was innocent.

The husband and daughter, who broke down in tears as she addressed the group, were earlier received by Pope Francis, who told her: "I think often of your mother and I pray for her".

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani, who has been tipped as a possible Italian prime minister after next week’s election, said that persecution of Christians was "a genocide".

During the event, organised by the Catholic group "Aid to the Church in Need," there were live link-ups with Aleppo, Syria and djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, Iraq, both of whose minority Christian populations have been hit hard by wars.

Egypt's top prosecutor orders assets freeze of opposition figure Abul-Fotouh and 15 others
[AlAhram] Egypt's top prosecutor Nabil Sadek has ordered an asset freeze on Strong Egypt Party founder and opposition figure Abdel-Moniem Abdul-Fotouh and 15 others for alleged ties to terrorist activity.

Abul-Fotouh was incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
last week, a day after he returned from London where he had given interviews critical of the government. The former Islamist presidential candidate and 15 others were also placed by a court decision on the country's terrorist list for alleged ties to the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund group.

The asset freeze orders described Abul-Fotouh as a leading member of the Moslem Brüderbund.

The terrorist designation followed a request from State Security prosecutors after investigations showed Abul-Fotouh and the others "led and joined a group established in violation of the law with the aim of harming the interests of the Egyptian state," state news agency MENA said, in reference to the Moslem Brüderbund.

The list includes Maha Azzam of the Chatham House think tank in London and the head of the so-called "Egyptian Revolutionary Council," Mahmoud Ezzat, the London-based acting Moslem Brüderbund Supreme Guide.

According to Egypt's "Terrorism Entity" law, individuals placed on the terrorism list are banned from travel, added on a watchlist, and subjected to an asset freeze. The designation decision can be appealed.

Egypt designated the Moslem Brüderbund a terrorist organization in December 2013.

Abul-Fotouh has for years distanced himself from the group and said he broke away with the movement in 2009 before he was officially dismissed in 2011.

He was ordered remanded into custody for 15 days pending investigations into charges including "publishing and broadcasting false news harming national interests" and "leading an illegal group" that aims to topple the regime and disrupt public order.

Abul-Fotouh was detained days after an interview with the Qatar

i-based new outlet al-Jazeera Mubasher, which Egypt has banned, in which he criticised President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for involving the military in politics and mishandling the economy.

The interior ministry accused him of holding "secret meetings" with leaders of the international Moslem Brüderbund organization in London earlier this month to carry out a plot aimed at sparking off unrest and instability in the country.

Abul-Fotouh was among several Egyptian politicians who called last month for a boycott of the upcoming presidential elections, due in late March.

Warning of ICE sweep, Oakland mayor takes Trump resistance to new level
[SF Chronicle] The relationship between U.S. immigration officials and California’s liberal leaders soured long ago, but Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s decision to warn potential targets of federal arrest that an immigration sweep could be imminent was an extraordinary escalation.

Schaaf said she issued the alert Saturday night after receiving confidential tips from "credible sources" who revealed that U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement, known as ICE, was planning arrests across the Bay Area as soon as Sunday.

he and Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick discussed the reports before Schaaf concluded the information was solid enough to go public, according to people familiar with her thinking. Schaaf said she also conferred with "legal counsel" to make sure she wasn’t opening herself up to federal prosecution.

The news release that resulted ‐ which Schaaf said was intended "not to panic our residents but to protect them" ‐ was among the most assertive maneuvers by a local politician to counter the Trump administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants. The message: Not only will Oakland and its police force not cooperate with ICE, but the city will actively seek to thwart efforts to detain and deport immigrants.

Iraq
Iraq condemns 15 Turkish women to death for having ties with Islamic State
[DAWN] An Iraqi criminal court on Sunday sentenced to death 15 Ottoman Turkish women after finding them guilty of belonging to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, a judicial official said.

Another Ottoman Turkish woman accused of membership of the bad boy group was given a life sentence, the official said, adding they had all acknowledged the charges against them.

Iraq, which has detained at least 560 women, as well as 600 children, identified as Death Eaters or relatives of suspected IS fighters, is wasting no time in putting them on trial.

In January, a court sentenced a German woman to death on charges of providing logistical support to IS, and a Ottoman Turkish woman was earlier this month also handed the death penalty.

Human Rights Watch denounced the rulings as "unfair".

Earlier this week, a Baghdad court sentenced a French woman, Melina Boughedir, to seven months in jail for entering Iraq illegally but ordered her release on time already served.

Baghdad declared military victory over IS in December, after having expelled the Death Eaters from all urban centres they had held in northern and western Iraq since 2014.

According to experts, an estimated 20,000 people are being held in jail in Iraq for alleged membership of IS. There is no official figure.

Separately, authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan said in early February they had detained some 4,000 suspected IS members, including foreigners.

Iraq's anti-terrorism law empowers courts to convict people who are believed to have helped IS even if they are not accused of carrying out attacks.

It also allows for the death penalty to be issued against anyone ─ including non-combatants ─ found guilty of belonging to IS.

Southeast Asia
Police arrest widow of Jemaah Islamiyah leader Marwan
[RAPPLER] The widow of notorious Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) leader Marwan has been tossed in the clink
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
on Sunday, February 25, the Philippine National Police announced.

Juromee Dongon was arrested by police operatives in an operation in Tubod, Lanao del Norte early Sunday morning.

Dongon was married to a big shot of the notorious Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
kidnap-for-ransom group, Khadaffy Janjalani. After his death in 2006 she married Malaysian bombmaker Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, who was killed in 2015 in the Philippines, police said.

Aside from Dongon, arrested were her sister Lorilie Atta y Dongon and SPO4 Andy Atta, Lorilie's husband.

Confiscated from the 3 were:

One fragmentation grenade
6 blasting caps
One blasting cap assembly
One electric detonating cord
One non-electric detonating cord
One plastic container
Two sling bags
One 9mm Glock 17 pistol issued by the PNP
3 magazines for the Glock 17 pistol
37 live ammunition for the 9mm pistol

"[Dongon] assists, associates, networks and supports terrorist groups," regional police front man Superintendent Lemuel Gonda told Agence La Belle France-Presse.

"Juromee is linked with Abu Sayyaf during the time of Janjalani and then later Jemaah Islamiyah," he added, referring to a Southeast Asian bully boy group.

Marwan was a leading member of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and a suspect in the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings that killed 202 people as well as in two deadly Philippine attacks.

He died in a raid in the southern Philippines that also left 44 police commandos dead. The US had offered a $5 million bounty for him.

Father of Romeo Dongon arrested
In a separate operation, cops also arrested Romeo Dongon, alias "Faisal" at Sitio Tinago, San Juan, Baroy, Lanao del Norte, and found illegal firearms in his possession. Dongon's daughter Norein Dongon Santos was also arrested.

Romeo Dongon is the father of Renierlo Dongon, who was the terrorist who had a love affair with a police official, Superintendent Cristina Nobleza. It can be recalled that Nobleza and Dongon were arrested back in April 2017, when the two attempted to evade capture during a police operation against the Abu Sayyaf in Bohol. (READ: Cop detained over alleged plot to rescue ASG in Bohol)

The team was composed of operatives from the regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Special Action Force, provincial and municipal cops.

Cops seized the following from the house:

One Colt MK1V .45 caliber pistol
One magazine of caliber .45 bullets
3 pieces of caliber .45 cartridges
One M61 fragmentation hand grenade
One gray empty blasting cup
One two-feet yellow detonating cord

Cops also confiscated a Samsung tablet, a Lenovo laptop with a handbag case, a 4 mobile phones, and two electrical wires.

Dongon family's terror links
An exclusive report by Rappler's Maria Ressa back in April revealed that the Dongon family is no stranger to controversial terror-linked marriages.

Zainab Dongon, another Dongon daughter, was the wife of Zulkifli Bin Hir, alias Marwan. Zainab had also married the brother of Abu Sayyaf founder Abdujarak Janjalani, Khadaffy Janjalani, who was killed by government forces.

Another sister, Aminah, married Jainal Antel Sali, also known as Abu Solaiman. A 41-year-old civil engineer, he was Khadaffy Janjalani's deputy.

Romeo Dongon's wife, Judith Dongon, was arrested with Renierlo and Nobleza in the April 2017 incident in Clarin, Bohol.

Norein herself is apparently the wife of Ahmad Santos, the founder and leader of the Rajah Solaiman Movement until his arrest in 2005.

They have been put under the custody of the CIDG, which handles high-level suspects and criminals.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Navy kills Palestinian after boat breaches sailing limit
[Ynet] The IDF says it has opened fire on a Paleostinian boat off the Gazoo coast, killing one man who was on board after their warnings were ignored; two others were taken into custody for questioning.

The Israeli Navy opened fire on Sunday at a Paleostinian boat off that strayed from a permitted fishing area in the northern Gazoo Strip towards Israel, killing one of the three men on board.

The Navy opened fire after the boat ignored verbal warnings and warning shots, the IDF said. The soldiers than reportedly boarded the vessel and attempted to treat one of the fishermen, who was seriously maimed from the gunfire, but he succumbed to his wounds.

Two others were taken into custody for questioning.

The Gazoo fishermen's union, however, claimed the boat was targeted as it was making its way back to Gazoo, and Nizar Ayyash, the secretary of the Gazoo fishermen's syndicate, said in a statement that the men did not violate the maritime limit.

The union and his family named the dead man as 18-year-old Ismail Saleh Abu Reyala. Fishermen called an immediate two-day strike.

Israel maintains a naval blockade on the Gazoo Strip, which is dominated by Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", Islamists. It patrols the waters to stop arms from being smuggled into the enclave and to stop snuffies trying to attack or infiltrate its territory from the sea.

"Israeli forces targeted a Paleostinian fishing boat which was on the way back to Gazoo shore, which led to the death of one fisherman and wounding two others," the fishermen's union said.

An IDF spokeswoman said a Paleostinian vessel with three suspects aboard was shot at after it had deviated from the designated fishing zone in the northern Gazoo Strip.

"Naval forces called on the suspects to stop and when they did not comply, warning shots were had gun sex. Upon their continued advancement, shots were fired towards the vessel. Subsequently, one of the suspects was severely injured and he later succumbed to his wounds. The other two suspects were handed to security forces for interrogation," she said.

Fishing is one of the biggest industries in the Gazoo Strip, a coastal enclave of almost 2 million inhabitants.

Over the past two years, Israel has detained dozens of Gazoo fishermen who have strayed beyond the border, a senior naval commander said.

Boats are not allowed to stray beyond a fixed limit to the north towards Israeli waters, and Egypt keeps similar limitations to the south-west. Israel restricts fishing to a seasonally adjusted zone of between six and nine nautical miles.

Jenin imam suspended for hinting PA leaders are traitors
[IsraelTimes] Sheikh's sermon seems to refer to Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, accusation that PA helped Israel track down and kill terrorist Ahmed Jarrar

A Paleostinia holy man from Jenin who implicitly accused the Paleostinian Authority of treason has been suspended and fined by the PA Ministry of Waqf.

The imam was also accused of failing to encourage Paleostinians to support PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
.

Sheikh Mohammed Abahreh, the imam of the Jenin Grand Mosque in the northern West Bank, was notified on Sunday that he would not be permitted to deliver Friday sermons until further notice.

In addition, the ministry decided to cut NIS 500 ($143) from his salary under the pretext that Abahreh had "violated the directives of the Waqf Department."

The PA requires all mosque preachers to abide by a weekly directive issued by its Ministry of Waqf that provides them with talking points for their Friday sermons.

The move is in the context of the PA’s effort to prevent krazed killer preachers and Hamas supporters from controlling mosques, a PA security official explained. "The preachers receive their salaries from the Ministry of Waqf," the official noted. "If they don’t abide by the rules, they are subject to punitive measures."

Last week’s directive to preachers instructed them to devote their Friday sermons to the issue of "confidence and trust in Allah." The ministry also instructed preachers to urge worshipers to rally behind the leadership of Abbas.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
Abahreh did not comply with the directive and chose to talk about treason and its dangers to Paleostinian society, according to sources in Jenin.

Although he did not directly accuse anyone of "treason," the preacher’s words were interpreted as criticism of the PA leadership, the sources added.

Abahreh is from the village of al-Yamoun, where Israeli security forces earlier this month killed Hamas terrorist Ahmad Jarrar. Jarrar was a member of a Hamas terror cell that killed Rabbi Raziel Shevach in the northern West Bank in January.

Abahreh’s talk of "treason" was apparently linked to Hamas accusations that the PA security forces had helped Israel track down and kill Jarrar.

The suspension of the Jenin imam coincided with a public opinion poll published on Sunday that showed that a growing number of Paleostinians are worried about a "regression in freedom of expression in Paleostinian society."

Conducted by the Jerusalem Media and Communication Center, the poll of 1,200 Paleostinians showed that the percentage of those who said freedom of expression was not permissible had risen to 30 percent, compared with 23% in July 2016.

#2  Those old white guys who wrote that document had some 20 years prior had been Englishmen. It was in their memory that they had experienced the military dictatorship of Oliver Cromwell. They had themselves just gotten rid of the King's army. They knew circumstances dictated that they need a standing army, if only a small one. However as a protection to man's unending thirst for power, to check the use of such power they entrusted the entire male population with the means to inhibit natural human hierarchical behavior. The militia was suppose to be armed with the same standard weapon issued to their soldiers. In 1792 that was a musket, in 2018 that is a derivative of an AR-15. Period. Everything that the Left has done has shown it to act in a manner that the Founders expected in human behavior and thus this guarantee to ultimately protect our lives, our liberties and our honor.
