Record number of attacks on gays in France
Golly. Considering that Jews and gays are being attacked more and more, I wonder what the connection might be. Ruritanian immigration perhaps?
Assaults in France on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people hit a new record in 2018, "a dark year" for the LGBT community, French group SOS Homophobie reported Tuesday.

The non-profit association registered 231 physical attacks, up from the previous annual record of 188 anti-LGBT assaults back in 2013 linked to same-sex marriage legislation.

"2018 was a dark year for LGBT people," said SOS Homophobie co-presidents Véronique Godet and Joël Deumier in the yearly report.

The number of assaults jumped 66 percent over 2017, with a spike towards the end of the year when a case a day was being reported to the group.

SOS Homophobie's helpline, website and legal services collected 1,905 statements from witnesses of abuse of the gay community, 15 percent more than the previous year.

The breakdown of cases, which could involve multiple categories, showed 62 percent involved rejection, 51 percent insults, 38 percent discrimination and 20 percent harassment. Threats and defamation made up 17 percent each with physical assault on 13 percent.

Some 66 percent of witnesses were men, who were "more inclined to talk about it and turn to SOS Homophobie to denounce what they suffered".

The association said the 42 percent leap in reporting of violence against lesbians appeared linked to the greater willingness of victims to speak out and the influence of the #MeToo movement.

With 23 percent of reported cases, Internet was the leading place for the expression of LGBT phobia in France.

Facebook and Twitter act like an "echo chamber" of daily cases with the social networks recording more than half of all reported cases, the group said.

#2  In a semi-related development, I met my first transgendered person today! I was at the courthouse in Quincy (I'm kicking a tenant out so my lawyer needs a summary process eviction notice from the court), and I asked this 'lady' - where can I get this form? So, 'she' turns around and says in the most male voice - 'They're right over there, and it's going to be $5.00 for the form'. I said thanks and just before turning away, I took a look at 'her' neck, and sure enough there's the Adams apple.

I'll say this - every conceivable minority group is well represented in that courthouse's staff. I'll also note that every lawyer I spotted was a white male. Funny how that works!

HUD proposes evicting unauthorized immigrants from subsidized housing
[SD Union Trib] The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has proposed a rule that would prohibit undocumented immigrants from living in Section 8 housing, but the head of the San Diego Housing Commission said the change could cost more money to implement and displace legal residents.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has proposed a policy change intended to make legal U.S. residents first in line for subsidized housing, but the head of the San Diego Housing Commission said it could end up costing more money and displacing legal residents already housed.

HUD estimates more than 25,000 households that receive federal Section 8 housing vouchers include people not in the country legally, and revising its policy could create more affordable housing for legal residents.

Housing Commission President and CEO Rick Gentry said 325 families that receive Section 8 housing vouchers in San Diego have at least one family member who is an unauthorized immigrant. Under the proposed change, the unauthorized person would have to move out.
The horror!
Gentry said the change likely will result in all family members moving out rather than being separated, displacing legal residents. Of those households, 251 have children younger than 18, he said.

"I would say it's not a good idea because we are harming people who are citizens, and it would not save the taxpayers any money," he said.

The change could cost more, Gentry said, because the 325 households receive prorated vouchers rather than full vouchers. As an example, Gentry said a household of four with one unauthorized resident would receive a voucher reduced by 25 percent. If those people move out and are replaced by four legal residents, the household would receive a voucher valued at 100 percent, increasing the amount the Housing Commission pays for same unit.

The San Diego Housing Commission provides Section 8 vouchers to about 15,400 households in the city.
Sounds like Gentry needs to be replaced and the SDHC removed from distributing those funds

The Latest: Norwegian Tanker's Hull Punctured off UAE Coast
[US News] DUBAI, UNITED ARAB Emirates (AP) ‐ The Latest on alleged sabotage of ships off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (all times local):

The owners of a Norwegian-flagged oil tanker say their vessel sustained a hole in its hull from "an unknown object" while off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, amid what Gulf officials describe as sabotage targeting ships there.
Oh Noes, Herb! Norway is playing into our Gulf of Tonkin V2.0!
Thome Ship Management said in a statement Monday that the MT Andrea Victory was still off the coast of Fujairah and was "not in any danger of sinking."

It said the rear section of the ship was hit by the object on Sunday.

It added its sailors were supporting local authorities and were conducting a full inspection of the vessel.

Saudi Arabia said earlier Monday that two of its oil tankers also were targeted in "sabotage operations" off the UAE coast, with one of them as it was en route to pick up Saudi oil to take to the United States.
Update from Iraqi News at 6:25 p.m. EDT:
Four fat merchantmen were targets of a sabotage attack near Fujairah port, just outside the Strait of Hormuz, on Sunday.

The UAE gave no further details about the ships’ nationalities but Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
confirmed that it owned two of them, while a Norwegian company said it had another. The fourth ship was reportedly UAE-flagged.

Lawsuit Filed over Display of Bible at Veterans Hospital
[MIL.com] A Bible on display as part of a memorial at New Hampshire's veterans hospital should be removed because it is a violation of the First Amendment, a U.S. Air Force veteran said in a federal lawsuit May 7. The Bible was carried by a prisoner of war during World War II and became part of the Missing Man Table honoring missing veterans and POWs at the entranceway of the Manchester VA Medical Center. The Department of Veterans Affairs said May 7 the table was sponsored by a veterans group called the Northeast POW/MIA Network. Read more about the lawsuit on Military.com.

Rod Rosenstein tears into James Comey by calling him a 'partisan pundit' who 'deserved' to be fired' and slams the former FBI director for 'selling books and earning speaking fees while speculating about the fate of my immortal soul'
[MAIL] In his remarks on Monday, Rosenstein defended his actions while taking aim at Comey, who recently said that the former deputy attorney general’s soul had been ‘eaten’ by Trump.

‘Now the former director seems to be acting as a partisan pundit, selling books and earning speaking fees while speculating about the strength of my character and the fate of my immortal soul,’ Rosenstein said.

‘I kid you not. That is disappointing.’

Rosenstein delivered his speech to some 1,000 people at the annual Greater Baltimore Committee dinner, according to CNN.

He insisted that his decisions were not driven by partisan politics but by the rule of law.

Barriers Against Barbarism
[Takimag] One of the most fashionable manifestations of Trump derangement syndrome‐the assumption that Walls Never Work‐is crushingly debunked in historian David Frye’s eye-opening history of 4,000 years of barrier-building, from the Fertile Crescent to the Malibu Colony, Walls: A History of Civilization in Blood and Brick.

In a brilliant epilogue entitled "Love Your Neighbor, But Don’t Pull Down Your Hedges," Frye points out that, ironically, shortly after the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall made anti-wall triumphalism the unchallenged conventional wisdom, the world quietly entered its Second Age of Walls. (The first ran from prehistory up to the proliferation of cannons in the 1400s.)

Years before Donald Trump pointed out the utility of border barriers, governments around the world and private landowners (especially in "sanctuary cities") had already embarked on a new spate of wall-building to keep out terrorists, immigrants, and criminals.

Worldwide, some seventy barriers of various sorts currently stand guard over borders.

(Frye dismisses as a "largely meaningless semantic distinction" the recent shibboleth that "walls" are intrinsically evil while "fences" are not to be noticed.)

India, Saudi Arabia, and Israel, for example, have recently enclosed much of their perimeters. Frye observes that although Barack Obama dismissed border walls as "wacky" in 2016, his administration subsidized Jordan and Tunisia to construct their own strategic lines to protect themselves from the chaos of the uprisings Obama had supported in Syria and Libya.

Louis Farrakhan Is Hilarious, So Leave Him Alone

Former DHS officials ousted over push back on Trump administration's plan to arrest thousands of migrants
[FOX] Former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and a top immigration official challenged a previously secret White House plan to arrest thousands of migrant parents and children in nearly a dozen U.S. cities, Fox News confirmed Monday.

The Trump administration wanted to target migrant families that had crossed into the U.S. from Mexico in attempt to show that the U.S. wasn't going to back down on its border stance by detaining and deporting illegal immigrant families, The Washington Post first reported, citing several current and former Homeland Security officials.

'Sicilians have affinity for the Islamic world in their DNA'
[Aljazeera] Palermo, Italy - The sound of about two dozen children practising Quran recitations fills the otherwise empty Islamic Cultural Center of Via Roma in Palermo, Italy.

Two break out of the group and start playing hide-and-seek between a curtain that separates the children's section from the rest of the centre.

They are quickly ushered back to their place by Imam Sehab Uddin.

Home to more than 25,000 immigrants, many from majority Muslim countries such as Bangladesh, Palermo, has become a symbol of multiculturalism and integration that has been built on Sicily's history.

A Muslim stronghold for about 200 years between the ninth and 11th centuries, the Mediterranean island - of which Palermo is the capital - still bears the marks of Islamic history both physically and culturally.
See: "True Romance" - "you're an eggplant"
Ahmad Abd Al Majid Macaluso, the Imam of Palermo, walks through the San Giovanni degli Eremiti monastery and points to a discoloured section of wall.

He explains that was where the Mihrab used to be, the semi-circular carving in a mosque's wall that faces the Kaaba in Mecca, the holiest site in Islam.

"Every church here used to be a mosque which used to be a synagogue which used to be a church which was a mosque," he explains. "This is the history of Sicily."

German crossbow deaths: Police find more bodies
[BBC] German police probing the deaths of three people shot with crossbow arrows in a rural Bavarian hotel near Passau have found two more female bodies in a flat 650km (400 miles) away.

The flat in Wittingen had been occupied by a 30-year-old woman who was one of the victims found in the hotel room.

The other two in the hotel room were a man and woman found in bed, hand-in-hand, impaled with several arrows.

There was no sign of a fight, nor of another participant, police said.

All five victims were resident in Germany.

Rashida Tlaib Relaxes After Long Day By Watching Heartwarming Concentration Camp Scenes From 'Schindler's List'
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐After a long day in the office Monday, congressional representative Rashida Tlaib reportedly popped a bag of popcorn, settled back into her chair, and watched her favorite heartwarming concentration camp scenes from Steven Spielberg's classic film Schindler's List.

"This scene where this Jewish girl gets shot in cold blood---it just provides me with a really great calming feeling," she said, according to frightened aides, as she leaned back and took in her favorite scene in the movie. "A real, enormous sense of peace and tranquility."

"I mean, of course, because my ancestors provided a place the Jews could settle," she quickly added. "I definitely don't mean the Holocaust itself is calming. But still, when I think about it, I just feel these waves of serenity breaking over me like a summer storm."

Rep. Tlaib then sighed contentedly as she set the film to play the scene in repeat for the next several hours.

Looks Like Iran Still Has The EU On Their Side
[Hot Air] Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is a busy man these days. He’s logging enough frequent flyer miles book free vacations for the rest of his life. Today he’s in Brussels to push back on the European Union as they prepare to try to salvage the Iran nuclear deal without America’s support. By the way... remind me again why we’re so worried about offending the EU anymore? It’s not as if they’re really coming down on the right side of history in a lot of current debates.

Three nations in particular, Germany, France, and the UK, seem to be sticking with current sanctions while trying to save the Iran deal. But how serious of a deal can there be if the United States isn’t signing on? And as long as Iran refuses to allow unhindered access for IAEA inspections, their word shouldn’t be taken any more seriously than North Korea’s. (And I’m sure you’ve seen how far we’ve gotten with them on nothing more than promises and handshakes.)

Initial US analysis shows Iran likely behind attack on Saudi oil tankers
[American Thinker] A preliminary U.S. assessment indicates Iran was likely behind the attack that caused "significant damage" to two Saudi oil tankers on Sunday, according to a new report.

A U.S. official told the Wall Street Journal that the early findings in the ongoing analysis show Iran was likely behind the attack that occurred near the Persian Gulf as the two vessels were attempting to head into the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi energy minister Khalid al-Falih announced the vessels were attacked on Sunday along with at least two other oil-industry vessels. He also said that one of the ships was traveling to a Saudi port in the Persian Gulf to load oil that would head to the U.S.

Few details were offered, but Saudi officials said the engine on the tanker called Al-Marzoqah caught fire, leading to an explosion.

The U.S. official declined to say what the initial assessment means for the U.S. and a potential response going forward. The State Department has so far refrained from saying whether Secretary of State Mike Pompeo believes Iran or its allies was behind the attack.

#8  About Iraq and Al Qaeda, Herb — that question was answerd over a decade ago:

Saddam's Terror Training Camps

January 16, 2006
[WeeklyStandard] THE FORMER IRAQI REGIME OF Saddam Hussein trained thousands of radical Islamic terrorists from the region at camps in Iraq over the four years immediately preceding the U.S. invasion, according to documents and photographs recovered by the U.S. military in postwar Iraq. The existence and character of these documents has been confirmed to THE WEEKLY STANDARD by eleven U.S. government officials.

The secret training took place primarily at three camps--in Samarra, Ramadi, and Salman Pak--and was directed by elite Iraqi military units. Interviews by U.S. government interrogators with Iraqi regime officials and military leaders corroborate the documentary evidence. Many of the fighters were drawn from terrorist groups in northern Africa with close ties to al Qaeda, chief among them Algeria's GSPC and the Sudanese Islamic Army. Some 2,000 terrorists were trained at these Iraqi camps each year from 1999 to 2002, putting the total number at or above 8,000. Intelligence officials believe that some of these terrorists returned to Iraq and are responsible for attacks against Americans and Iraqis. According to three officials with knowledge of the intelligence on Iraqi training camps, White House and National Security Council officials were briefed on these findings in May 2005; senior Defense Department officials subsequently received the same briefing.

The photographs and documents on Iraqi training camps come from a collection of some 2 million "exploitable items" captured in postwar Iraq and Afghanistan. They include handwritten notes, typed documents, audiotapes, videotapes, compact discs, floppy discs, and computer hard drives. Taken together, this collection could give U.S. intelligence officials and policymakers an inside look at the activities of the former Iraqi regime in the months and years before the Iraq war.

The discovery of the information on jihadist training camps in Iraq would seem to have two major consequences: It exposes the flawed assumptions of the experts and U.S. intelligence officials who told us for years that a secularist like Saddam Hussein would never work with Islamic radicals, any more than such jihadists would work with an infidel like the Iraqi dictator. It also reminds us that valuable information remains buried in the mountain of documents recovered in Afghanistan and Iraq over the past four years.

Nearly three years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, only 50,000 of these 2 million "exploitable items" have been thoroughly examined. That's 2.5 percent. Despite the hard work of the individuals assigned to the "DOCEX" project, the process is not moving quickly enough, says Michael Tanji, a former Defense Intelligence Agency official who helped lead the document exploitation effort for 18 months. "At this rate," he says, "if we continue to approach DOCEX in a linear fashion, our great-grandchildren will still be sorting through this stuff."

Most of the 50,000 translated documents relate directly to weapons of mass destruction programs and scientists, since David Kay and his Iraq Survey Group--who were among the first to analyze the finds--considered those items top priority. "At first, if it wasn't WMD, it wasn't translated. It wasn't exploited," says a former military intelligence officer who worked on the documents in Iraq.

"We had boxloads of Iraqi Intelligence records--their names, their jobs, all sorts of detailed information," says the former military intelligence officer. "In an insurgency, wouldn't that have been helpful?"

#9  can we stop rehashing the Iraq/WMD thing?

Sure, the moment it becomes irrelevant.

Right now it seems very relevant. They lied us into a war. Now, we've got a casus belli to go to war with Iran. Probability of false flag: High. The timing is incredibly convenient. Remember the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which was also incredibly convenient?

a simple jingoistic NEO-CON!

Neo-cons were the ones who lied us into Iraq. Leaving aside the fact that overthrowing empires, toppling nobilities and religious proselytism aren’t evil per se, to be evil you need to be at least willing to murder innocents for personal gain. That immediately disqualifies you from being a ‘decent guy’. A decent father, wife or cook, maybe. But not a decent person.

Hundreds of thousands of innocents died in Iraq, a war started by neo-cons under false pretenses.

#10  Dan Darling, who was a moderator here while in college, submitted the above article to Rantburg. After he graduated he joined a national security consultant firm based on the work he had done here and elsewhere since high school, and disappeared from public view — a precocious young man. Mr. Darling also submitted this one in 2003, among others. The nexus between Saddam Hussein’s Iraq and Al Qaeda, among other jihadis groups, was a regular topic of interest in the early post-9/11 years here at Rantburg. You’ll need to go to the link to see where Mr. Darling and Fred commented on the original text:

About that smoking gun ...

This is a complete transcript of the Weekly Standard article that details US intelligence on the Iraq/al-Qaeda connection.
OSAMA BIN LADEN and Saddam Hussein had an operational relationship from the early 1990s to 2003 that involved training in explosives and weapons of mass destruction, logistical support for terrorist attacks, al Qaeda training camps and safe haven in Iraq, and Iraqi financial support for al Qaeda--perhaps even for Mohamed Atta--according to a top secret U.S. government memorandum obtained by THE WEEKLY STANDARD.
And there goes the "hyped intelligence" charge in regards to the Iraq/al-Qaeda connection. A lot of this stuff also comes from the early to late 1990s, long before Bush even thought of running for president.
The memo, dated October 27, 2003, was sent from Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Douglas J. Feith to Senators Pat Roberts and Jay Rockefeller, the chairman and vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. It was written in response to a request from the committee as part of its investigation into prewar intelligence claims made by the administration. Intelligence reporting included in the 16-page memo comes from a variety of domestic and foreign agencies, including the FBI, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the National Security Agency. Much of the evidence is detailed, conclusive, and corroborated by multiple sources. Some of it is new information obtained in custodial interviews with high-level al Qaeda terrorists and Iraqi officials, and some of it is more than a decade old. The picture that emerges is one of a history of collaboration between two of America’s most determined and dangerous enemies.
Which would seem to annihilate the belief that secular and religious terrorist groups are incapable of collaboration. Why, it’s as outrageous as a right-wing American Republican president being in league with a left-wing British Labour prime minister! Their ideologies are completely incompatible.

But we also had a lot of personal witnesses over the years of the points in question – one simply needs to read through the first 10 years of comments to find it. I will admit that reading through nearly two decades of archives is a valuable exercise exactly to remember things since forgotten, but it does take a bit of time.

#18  So, nationalists like Saddam and Islamists like Al-Qaeda were actually best buddies? Who knew?

We knew, Herb. You would know, too, if you scrolled through the archives. Or google “Salman Pak AND Al Qaeda” or” Iran AND Al Qaeda”. Saddam Hussein trained a great many jihadi terror group personnel — and non-jihadi as well — at Salman Pak. Al Qaeda was only one of many organizations that sent cadres to learn the basics of hijacking airplanes, making bombs, document forgery, and all the other skills necessary to wage a covert war, as well as sending them back for advanced courses in biological and chemical weapons and such. Saddam Hussein saw them all as tools to be used against various external targets, just as the whiskey-swilling generals of Pakistan keep all sorts of domestic and international jihadi groups on the payroll to use against India, Afghanistan and, incidentally, America and Europe — not to mention the occasional domestic target.

So we were right to invade Iraq all along? Is that the point here?

Low hanging fruit, as the war had been ongoing since President George H.W. Bush. In order to end the current expansionist jihad, we needed to eradicate support from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran (where half of Osama bin Laden’s family, Al Qaeda’s Shura council, and military commanders were sheltered after they fled from Tora Bora), and Saudi Arabia — Kuwait and Qatar being highly secondary. Unfortunately, my dear, this is the third anti-totalitarian world war — the first ended up being against the racial fascism of Germany’s Nazis and Japan (because Stalin chose to side with the Allies for the duration), the second against the economic socialism of the Soviet Union and Communist China and their allies, and the third is against the expansionist neo-jihad of the Islamists.

It should not be a surprise that we believe this, my dear. Page 1 of Rantburg, after all, is devoted to War on Terror Operations, and Page 2 is for War on Terror Background.

#19  I'd think that when you came to the realization that you were killing innocent people, you might have a "My God, what have I done?" moment.

As it happens, I come from a long line of innocent people who were intentionally targetted by, among others, Nazis, Soviets, and Muslims on jihad. So when such people surround themselves with human shields, whether willing or unwilling, as specifically forbidden by the Geneva Conventions, I agree with the next section of said Conventions which squarely places the blame for casualties among human shields on the shoulders of those hiding behind them — not on the attackers.

#20  Many people are debased. They kill and want to be killed. They will kill you in a heart beat. They don't need a reason. That goes for many people. You don't get a choice in not killing or killing if you can defend yourself and those around you if you are prepared. You give them DEATH. If you are not prepared, be prepared to die as you walk to your car in a parking lot, and death walks up to you and demands your wallet, and then death puts a gun against the side of your head and pulls the foching trigger...

No.

#25  So, nationalists like Saddam and Islamists like Al-Qaeda were actually best buddies? Who knew?

I don't understand where you get the idea that people who form alliances are best buddies. Alliances form out of common interests. Once that common interest ceases to exist, the allies turn against each other if they have other goals that put them in opposition. Crack open a history book some time. It's nothing like Star Wars or Disney movies. You do realize that Greek states allied with Persia against other Greek states, don't you? And that European alliances shifted constantly. Italy sided with Britain in WWI and Germany in WWII. It's a matter of who offers the best deal.

#26  Never attacked us? Have you been reading the articles posted in Home Front: WoT, Herb? Asymmetric warfare doesn’t look like two armies going toe to toe, Civil War style. It’s all those stupid, semi-crazy lone wolves who self-radicalize after reading the posts and watching the videos posted by ISIS, Al Qaeda, and all the other jihadi groups and individuals; all the connected known wolves who pull together plots involving guns, bombs, and trucks; and the formal sleeper cells reporting to the handlers in Iran and Lebanon. It’s a steady trickle of attacks intended to terrorize us and prepare us for the final surrender. And it’s certainly not about a single jihadi organization, because even local leaders, eg Boko Haram change affiliation based on whichever label is cooler at the moment.

LGBTQ: Forcing Us to Embrace Evil, Destructive Lies
[American Thinker] Someone asked, "What is behind the LGBTQ agenda?" The goal of LGBTQ enforcers is to forcibly normalize their lifestyle in the minds of the 97% of the population that is not LGBTQ. This is why we are bombarded with the LGBTQ lifestyle inserted into everything. Why are major corporations making the promotion of LGBTQ, which are less than 3% of the population, their top priority?

A Disney theme park TV ad featured two homosexual couples with children without showing a single heterosexual couple. Why is Disney so intent on appeasing this minute 3%?

Converse launched a new line of shoes celebrating the LGBTQ lifestyle. The star of Converse's depraved marketing campaign is an 11-year-old drag queen. Converse says its campaign shows the power of expressing one's true self. That is a lie. Converse is encouraging children to live a lie, rather than embrace who they truly are. Converse is engaged in child abuse. Pure and simple. Lord help us.

Those in the LGBTQ lifestyle appear angry at and in rebellion against God ‐ the God of Christianity. If you notice, everything LGBTQ enforcers advocate is in direct contradiction of God's original plan for family, marriage, sex, and Christian principles and values. It is not a coincidence that God's symbol of the rainbow has been hijacked to represent a behavior that God says is an abomination (Lev. 20:13).

LGBTQ enforcers demand that we affirm their lifestyle to soften their nagging guilt. This is why LGBTQ enforcers have infiltrated public education, beginning in preschool, to teach our kids that their lifestyle is normal and even superior to heterosexuality.

Ministry trolls BDS supporters
[Ynet] Internet users seeking information regarding boycotting the Eurovision in Tel Aviv got a surprise when their search took them to a website about how Beautiful, Diverse and Sensational Israel is.

As the Eurovision song contest begins and BDS activists calling for a boycott of the event being held in Israel, the ministry of strategic affairs has launched a campaign against supporters of the boycott. Web users searching for information regarding BDS came upon a website seemingly supporting the boycott movement ‐ only to discover that it is actually a cleverly designed Pro-Israeli website.

The website shows all that is beautiful about Israel by using the BDS initials: Beautiful, Diverse, Sensational. More than 30,000 internet users visited the website in less than a week and got the Israeli response to the misinformation and hypocrisy being spread by boycott organizations.

The Ministry for Strategic Affairs, headed by Gilad Erdan, looked for a creative way to contradict the narrative behind the boycott campaign of the BDS movement. In order not expand the BDS brand, the ministry launched a campaign aimed at internet users looking to support the boycott on Google, including banners and adds that "follow" the users to other, unrelated sites.

The website includes photos of Israel's landscape and short publicity film clips about the diversity of Israeli society. "Israel ‐ a country where openness, freedom of expression and the freedom to live and let live have become its main characteristics. A mixture of cultures and traditions that have made Israel an island of tolerance," the website wrote. The website postcards photographed by participants of the Eurovision show the breathtaking landscape and colorful culture.

"After we exposed the anti-Semitism and terror ties of the BDS organizations and discovered dozens of internet bots and fake accounts aimed at pressuring musicians to boycott the contest, we have launched a website aimed at exposing their lies and presenting Israel as a truly: diverse, beautiful and astonishing country," said Minister Erdan.

New Haven fire chief: Mosque fire was intentionally set
The question becomes whether it was kids getting rambunctious, malicious Muslim-haters, or the common problem of a member of the congregation trying to create news.
[NHRegister] The fire that scarred the Diyanet Mosque of New Haven Sunday was intentionally set, Fire Chief John Alston said Monday.

Alston stood in the steady rain before the blackened front and the white minarets of the house of worship as he announced the initial results of the inquiry, gathered close to city officials and congregants from the mosque.

We’ve detected that there is intent in this fire. This was intentionally set," said Alston, who said his heart went out to those who worship at the mosque.

Alston declined to say what evidence was found or whether there was surveillance footage of the area. Police Chief Otoniel Reyes said officials would not discuss any aspect of the investigation at this time to ensure its integrity is maintained.

Reyes said the criminal investigation was in its infancy stages. He asked that anyone in the community with any information, "however minimal you think it might be," come forward, as it may prove useful.

A reward of up to $2,500 has been offered for any information that leads to an arrest or conviction in the case, officials said.

The mosque currently is uninhabitable, Alston said.

"The one thing I find hopeful is, I heard from the imam (that) other houses of worship, churches and synagogues, have stepped forward and said, ’We want to help.’ And what I heard here from the folks at this mosque is they welcome the help, but they want to worship right here in this place," said Lamont. "And we’re going to do everything we can to make that happen."

A police car was parked in the otherwise-empty lot outside the mosque Monday morning. Soon after noon, there was a truck from the New Haven Fire Department’s fire investigation unit at the scene, as well.

Yellow police tape barred entry to the mosque.

Ahead of the news conference Monday, Mosque President Haydar Elevli said local churches had offered the congregation a place to hold services after Sunday’s fire, but no decision had been made as to where they’ll hold services.

Elevli said he was unsure of the extent of the damage at the mosque, but thankful no one was hurt.

The fire was a blow, he said ‐ the mosque, under construction for some time, was months away from completion, and the blaze comes during the holy month of Ramadan.

Elevli said funds would be raised from the Moslem community and the Ottoman Turkish government to help repair the damage and continue construction.
"We’re going to keep going," said Elevli.

The Diyanet Center of America, the umbrella organization of which the New Haven mosque is a part,
...the Turks have been busily spending money. Only three years ago they opened a $110 million, 2-minaret monstrosity in the Ottoman style near Washington , DC...
described the damage to the mosque as "huge" in a Facebook post Sunday and asked people to consider offering donations.
Diyanet Center of America is an operating name of the Ottoman Turkish American Community Center, a Maryland-based nonprofit, according to its website. The community center "was established in 1993 by a group of Ottoman Turkish-Americans to provide religious, social and educational services to Ottoman Turkish immigrants colonists and Moslems" living in the United States, the site says.

"Diyanet Center of America receives its major support from Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), an institution of the Ottoman Turkish Government," the site says.

Fire officials reported Sunday that a two-alarm blaze broke out at the mosque, with fire on the first floor extending to the second.

Europe
Germany moots ‘mosque tax’ to replace foreign funding
[DAWN] Support is growing in Germany for a "mosque tax" to make Islamic institutions less dependent on potentially anti-democratic or "radical" foreign funding sources, a media report said on Sunday.

The federal government sees it as "a possible path", according to an answer to a parliamentary query, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper reported.

Several of Germany’s 16 states had also signalled support in principle for the idea which would mirror Germany’s voluntary Christian "church tax", the newspaper said.

Concern has grown in Germany about the influence of foreign funding sources on mosques for the country’s estimated five million Moslems, who hail mostly from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Arab countries.

#4  The church tax has led to church establishments that, unaccountable to their faithful, do what they please--which turns out to be following the spirit of the age.
I'm not sure what the effect of funding the Muhammadan clergy would be. It might be to turn them into effective atheists, like their Christian counterparts--in which case clandestine foreign-supported mosques would become popular with the faithful, or they might turn just as radical as the Saudi mosques. I kind of doubt that the Germans can use this to control Muhammadan teaching.

Judge strikes down Kentucky law restricting abortions after 15 weeks
[Yahoo] A Kentucky judge has struck down a law that prohibited a method of abortion commonly used in the second trimester, saying the measure would create a “sustainable obstacle” to a woman’s right to choose.

US district judge Joseph McKinley Jr ruled on Friday that the state’s law violated a woman’s constitutional right to privacy.
Wiki: "McKinley was nominated by President Bill Clinton on May 24, 1995,"
The law, aimed at halting dilation-and-evacuation (D&E) terminations, was found to “unduly burden” women seeking abortions.

The state’s lawyers argued that the law would still allow use of D&E, but only after doctors used other methods to induce fetal death. Abortion providers breaking the law would be guilty of a felony but patients would not face prosecution.

Kentucky's governor Matt Bevin said he would appeal the decision, which came as a wave of restrictive abortion laws known as "heartbeat bills" swept the southern US.

Naples man impersonates FBI agent, leaves catfish on homeowner's lawn
[WINKNews] A Naples man was arrested for impersonating an FBI agent. When told to leave a homeowner's property, the suspect dropped catfish on her lawn, then fled the scene on a bicycle.

The suspect, Kristian Dudley, 42, faces a charge of Open Container in Public/Semi-Public Parking Area and a felony charge of Impersonate Law Enforcement Officer.

The victim said Dudley drove a bike with red and blue flashing lights into her front yard at the 2000 block of Palm Street in Naples. Dudley introduced himself as an FBI agent, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office arrest report. Then, he ordered the woman to show proof of ID to make sure she was there legally.

The victim said she was a U.S. citizen and told him to leave her property. After Dudley refused a second time, her husband told Dudley to go and he called CCSO, per the arrest report. Before leaving the property, Dudley dropped multiple live catfish in the driveway for an "unknown reason."

As Dudley was biking, a deputy stopped him because he fit the description of the suspect. The deputy said Dudley appeared heavily intoxicated, was wearing a dark shirt, had an FBI hat and a bicycle with red and blue flashing lights.

Dudley has been taken to jail.

Jihadists in Idlib attack Christian city for 2nd straight day
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels in the Idlib Governorate has attacked the Christian city of al-Sqaylabiyeh for the second straight day, a source in the area told al-Masdar News this morning.

According to the source, the jihadist rebels fired rocket propelled grenades (RPG) and artillery shells into al-Sqaylabiyeh, hitting a number of homes in the predominately Antiochian Orthodox city.

On Sunday, the jihadist rebels launched an identical attack that killed six people, including five children.

The Christian city has long been targeted the jihadist rebels because of their resistance to their attacks.

Al-Sqaylabiyeh is home to one of the most powerful units from the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the ISIS Hunters.

During the jihadist offensive in northwestern Hama in 2014, Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
and the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) repeatedly tried to capture al-Sqaylabiyeh and the nearby Christian city of Mhardeh; however, the locals fought off all of their attacks.

Al-Sqaylabiyeh is also home to a large number of displaced civilians from the Hama and Idlib governorates; they fled to the city to escape the violence taking place in and around their homes.

Syrian Army captures 3 towns in northwestern Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] A source from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) told Al-Masdar that the Tiger Forces had captured three towns from the jihadist rebels in the northwestern countryside of the Hama Governorate.

According to the source, the Syrian Arab Army imposed full control over the towns of Hawash, Tal Hawash, and Al-Jabriyah after a brief battle with the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front.

The source said the Syrian Army briefly held Tal Hawash a few days ago, but they were ultimately forced to withdraw after a swift counter-attack by the jihadist rebels.

The Syrian Arab Army and their allies are now working to secure the northwestern axis of the Hama Governorate.

With these three towns under their control, the Syrian Army will likely shift their attention to the large hilltop of Tal Sakher, which is needed to secure the imperative town of Kafr Naboudeh.

Kafr Naboudeh, along with several other areas, was captured by the Syrian Arab Army and their allies last Wednesday; however, despite taking control of the town, they have faced heavy attacks from the jihadist rebels who are determined to retake their lost territories in northwestern Hama.

India-Pakistan
Attack in Gwadar
[DAWN] FOR the second time in a month, Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
is the scene of a terrorist attack. Even more disturbing, the incident took place in Gwadar city, whose port is the gateway to CPEC and the veritable jewel in the crown of the multibillion dollar project ‐ which makes the area one of the most heavily secured in the restive province. Nevertheless, on Saturday three armed assailants, disguised as security forces personnel, managed to make their way up the promontory overlooking the port and storm the PC hotel located at the top. According to official sources, five individuals ‐ four of them hotel employees, including three security guards who tried to fight off the attackers, and a navy official ‐ bit the dust. At least six people were maimed, and the snuffies themselves were killed. The banned Balochistan Liberation Army has reportedly grabbed credit, as well as a far higher corpse count.

The ferocity of the attack can be gauged by the fact that it took the security forces all night to clear the hotel and declare the premises safe. While it is commendable that law enforcement acted as quickly as it did, which may have helped in keeping the number of casualties comparatively low, a couple of questions instantly present themselves. One, how did the snuffies access the luxury hotel, situated at a vantage point, with such apparent ease ‐ that too in broad daylight? Two, how was it possible for them to conduct an operation in such a sensitive area without intelligence agencies getting wind of it? These security lapses must be investigated thoroughly in the coming days so that any loopholes can be plugged and further violence averted.

The motive is of course patently clear. Baloch separatist groups have made no secret of their hostility towards CPEC, which they perceive as yet another manifestation of state plunder of Balochistan’s resources. They seem to have stepped up their campaign in recent months with a number of high-profile attacks. On April 18, around a dozen button men singled out and killed 14 bus passengers, including 11 personnel of the navy, air force and Coast Guards, travelling on the coastal highway near the town of Ormara, also in Gwadar district. Last November, BLA launched an armed assault on the Chinese consulate in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, killing two coppers and two civilians. These are but two among several such recent attacks, and they illustrate the Baloch separatist groups’ tenacity in their war against the Pak state. Containing them by force is necessary, but it is not a durable solution. The only long-term resolution to this extended, if low-key, conflict is a political one. The state must reach out to disaffected nationalists and individuals who have some currency with the more obdurate Baloch. Moreover, it must do all it can to eliminate bad boy groups of all stripe ‐ ethnic, sectarian and ultra nationalist.

FO condemns alleged rape of 3-year-old girl in occupied Kashmir
[DAWN] The Foreign Office on Monday condemned the alleged rape of a three-year-old in Indian-Indian Kashmiree on May 8, which lead to widespread protests across the Valley on Sunday.

"Reported horrific rape of 3-year-old Kashmiri girl in Bandipora, in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmire, another brutal reminder of humanitarian nightmare in IoK," FO Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said on Twitter on Monday.

"Fresh reports of pellet gun firing on protesters, yet another reflection of continued Indian atrocities," he added.

According to the Indian Express, the girl was allegedly raped on Wednesday before iftar in the Sumbal area of Bandipora district, following which widespread protests broke out across the Valley on Sunday.

As per the complaint filed by the girl's family, the accused lured the child with candy before abducting her and then raping her. "We found her in a nearby area and informed the local police," a family member was quoted as saying.

Soon after the incident was reported, coppers said that the girl was referred to a Srinagar-based hospital while the accused, who hails from a village in the area, was tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
"A case was registered, and the accused was produced before the court which sent him on police remand," SSP Bandipora Rahul Malik told the Indian Express.

"The heinous crime of rape of a minor in Bandipora is under investigation. We assure that [the] perpetrator of the crime will be brought to justice. We appeal to the public to stay calm and not heed to any rumours," Bandipora Deputy Commissioner Shahbaz Mirza was quoted as saying, after protests were recorded in as many as 12 locations on Sunday.

Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani termed such incidents "a black stain on our social fabric and rich culture".

Former IOK chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah tweeted" "The rape of a child in Tirgaam is a travesty. [Jammu and Kashmire Police] must ensure a speedy investigation with only one consideration and that is to identify the guilty, prepare a watertight case & ensure exemplary punishment to those responsible."

Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her shock at the incident in a tweet, writing: "Mortified to hear about the rape of a 3 yr old girl in Sumbal. What kind of a sick pervert would do this? Society often blames women for inviting unwanted attention but what was this child’s fault?"

Sir Dickie Branson Wants Higher Taxes for Americans
[Free Beacon] Sir Richard Branson, an English businessman and founder of the Virgin Group, said Americans should pay higher taxes, although he acknowledged he is not American during an appearance on MSNBC on Friday.
How fortunate that you are a non-American, my dear sir, so your opinion completely doesn’t matter. On the other hand, have you considered giving more of your money to your own government?
Branson appeared on MSNBC to discuss Virgin Galactic's partnership with New Mexico to build the first-ever commercial spaceport. At the end of the interview, host Yasmin Vossoughian asked Branson about income inequality and the role people like him "should play with regards to income inequality."

"We have a very important role. I think if anybody is fortunate to be successful, wealth, and sometimes extreme wealth, comes with it and there's an enormous responsibility to redistribute that wealth by setting up, in our case, many, many different kinds of programs," Branson said.

Branson added that the "extremely wealthy most likely should bear more of the burden than they currently do."

"And do you agree with the likes of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates saying individuals like you should be paying higher taxes in this country?" Vossoughian asked.

"Yes, I mean, I'm not American, but I think the answer is yes. I think that, you know, the enormous tax breaks have benefited the very wealthy and that is wrong. And we don't need them in the way that other people do," Branson responded.

The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center found the average middle class family kept almost $1,000 due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed by Republicans. An article published by Fox Business earlier this year highlighted other benefits of the tax cuts:

British forces searching for Al-Baghdadi in Libya
Yesterday it was Afghanistan — but in theory he has to be somewhere, and if in the meantime they find related jihadis, that would be good, too.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. ...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
, is possibly hiding out in Libya after losing his so-called ’caliphate’ in Syria and Iraq, The Daily Express said on Sunday.

According to the publication, the British Royal Air Force is currently searching for the terrorist leader throughout the North African nation.

The report said British fighter jets, along with aircraft operated by Italian and US militaries, were carrying out round-the-clock sorties in search of the ABB, the code name being used to identify Baghdadi as a target. It said anyone killing or capturing the ISIS leader would receive $25million (£19million) as a bounty on his head.

The RAF jets are being scrambled from Waddington in Lincolnshire, in eastern England, to collate signals and intelligence on individuals and groups who might support the 48-year-old ISIS leader.

The British authorities allege that they have some ’reliable’ intelligence that the ISIS chief has escaped Baghouz in eastern Syria and moved on to Libya.

"It is reliable intel, but it needs to be verified," said a military source, adding, "the air component operation is delivering high-grade intelligence and we can map names and groups to people we known that have been or are part of ABB’s inner circle."

UN Concerns Over Increase Of Violence During Ramadhan
[ToloNews] The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan in a statement on Monday expressed grave concern about the impact on civilians from the increase in violence around the country during the first week of the holy month of Ramadhan.

The statement says that UNAMA condemns Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
for incidents in which civilians have been deliberately targeted, such as the 8 May attack in Kabul against a non-governmental organization, Counterpart International. Six non-combatants were killed and a further 28 injured.

"There can be absolutely no justification for deliberate or indiscriminate attacks against civilians," said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan.
"Except in Islam. There it's expected"
"The main victims of the attack were Afghans," said Yamamoto, who is also the head of UNAMA. "It is particularly egregious that a premeditated act of extreme violence was conducted against a development agency where civilians were striving to improve the lives of all citizens."

An earlier suicide kaboom by Taliban on the eve of Ramadhan against the Afghan National Police headquarters in Pul-e-Khumri, Baghlan province, caused many civilian casualties, with women and kiddies among the injured.

These two attacks in civilian-populated urban centers took place against a background of widespread reports of a recent intensification of the conflict in various regions of the country, as well as multiple claims that civilians are paying a heavy price.

UNAMA is actively looking into allegations of civilian casualties resulting from International Military Forces’ aerial operations in Farah and Nimroz provinces against reported drug manufacturing facilities. The locations are not easily accessible and there are numerous operational challenges to the verification of the civilian status of persons allegedly harmed by these operations.

UNAMA reiterates its call for the parties to halt the fighting during Ramadhan and uphold their obligations to protect civilians from harm, the statement said.

Doris Day, Bubbly Actress in Romantic Comedies, Dies at 97
[Bloomberg]Doris Day, the bubbly, blonde actress and singer who starred in "Pillow Talk" and other romantic comedies in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and who later became an animal-welfare advocate, has died. She was 97.
Que Sera Sera
She died Monday at her home in Carmel Valley, California, according to the Associated Press, citing the Doris Day Animal Foundation. "Day had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia, resulting in her death," the foundation said in an emailed statement.

Day reached the height of her popularity in sophisticated romps with co-stars James Garner, Cary Grant and, in particular, Rock Hudson. "Pillow Talk," released in 1959, was the first of three pictures they made and turned the pair into a top draw at theaters.

"It was an enormous departure from the kind of films she’d been doing for a dozen years," said Ross Hunter, producer of the movie, in Day’s autobiography. "Doris hadn’t a clue as to her potential as a sex image."

She made more than three dozen movies in 20 years, starting out in roles as the girl next door. That early, goody-two-shoes image led performer Oscar Levant to famously quip he knew Day "before she became a virgin."

AG Barr Appoints U.S. Attorney To Investigate Origins Of Russia Investigation
[DailyWire] Attorney General Bill Barr has appointed a U.S. attorney to investigate the origins of the Russia investigation and to determine if the FBI's surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016 was legal.
Hold me in contempt, you little shits? How you like these apples?
The Associated Press reported that a source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Barr "appointed John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, to conduct the inquiry."

"The inquiry will focus on whether the government’s methods to collect intelligence relating to the Trump campaign were lawful and appropriate," The AP added. "Durham has previously investigated law enforcement corruption, the destruction of CIA videotapes and the Boston FBI office’s relationship with mobsters."
That tiny slamming sound you heard was sphincters in DS and Dem assholes everywhere
In April, a Trump administration official told Fox News that Barr had assembled a team to investigate the origins of the FBI the Obama administration's FBI counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign.

"I am reviewing the conduct of the investigation and trying to get my arms around all the aspects of the counterintelligence investigation that was conducted during the summer of 2016," Barr said during a congressional hearing in April.
That last statement, made before congress, was what we politically refer to as a "Veiled Threat" to the congressional dems. You didn't listen. Now the mechanics of government are going to grind right over your failed coup attempt.

Two sisters ‘married’ to Chinese men eventually saved
[DAWN] NAROWAL: As the Federal Investigation Agency steps up its crackdown on a Chinese gang involved in deceiving under-privileged Pak girls and marrying them off with Chinese nationals on various false pretexts, two such cases have emerged from Narowal where the ’marriages’ took place in January but the parents of the girls refused to let them go with their Chinese ’husbands’.

Labourer Faryad Masih, a resident of Cheenay Saggle village, said priest Babu Javed, a resident of Abid Town near Narowal Grid Station, used to visit their house for prayers and religious rites. Faryad is a brick kiln worker and has six daughters and a minor son.

"In December 2018, Javed convinced me after my repeated refusals to send my daughters Isha alias Asia, 17, and Sunita, 16, to Islamabad to get them married to Chinese men, saying my daughters will go to China and I will get business, a new house and cash and a car. I became greedy and agreed," he began explaining what went down.

He further said Javed came to his house on Jan 3, 2019 and asked him to take his wife Nasreen and the two daughters to Islamabad immediately. "We reached Islamabad at 8pm. Javed took us to a huge house where Isha was married to Le Ze Dang and Sunita to Chen Sing Biao. There were about 25 to 30 Chinese nationals in the house, the security was very tight and many of them carried weapons on them."

Following the ’wedding’, Faryad said, he and his wife were sent back to Narowal. "When we told our relatives about the wedding, they told us we have handed over our daughters to human smugglers, who will sell them in China."

Faryad’s wife Nasreen said: "We told Javed that the girls may have been married but we will send them to China from our home in Narowal. At first, he hesitated, but later agreed. On Jan 15, he brought our daughters home and said they’ll leave for China in a week. We hid our daughters and decided we won’t let them go."

The girls’ maternal grandfather, Inayat Masih, said Javed returned a week later to take the girls along with three Chinese men and a woman. He claimed that Javed had sold his granddaughters to the Chinese for Rs1.6 million. "We sent back the Chinese with the help of local influentials and elders. The Chinese would take girls to China with the help of Pak controllers through fake wedding documents and force them to work as sex workers," he explained.

One of the girls, Isha, narrated her ordeal, saying that Javed took her and her sister to Islamabad on the pretext of jobs, but forcefully married them off to Chinese men, threatening that if they didn’t sign the marriage documents they would be killed.

Faryad further tried to justify why he initially made the mistake of trusting Javed. "I became greedy due to the life we live in poverty. I thought I have spent my life in poverty, but my daughters should live a comfortable one."

He added that a couple of weeks ago he had filed a case in local court for dissolution of marriage. He also demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
take action against human smugglers and their controllers so that no other poor family was swindled.

US denies visa to senior Palestinian official
[Ay-Pee] A senior Palestinian official said the United States denied her application for a visa to travel to the U.S. on Monday in what appears to be the latest sign of escalating American political pressure on Palestinians.

Hanan Ashrawi, a top official in the Palestine Liberation Organization and outspoken activist for Palestinian rights, told The Associated Press that she believed she was rejected for political reasons.
And...because you're a caustic hate and lie-spewing ashtray
She said she had been invited to a series of speaking engagements at universities and think tanks in the U.S., and was also planning to visit relatives, including a daughter and grandchildren living there.

Educated in the U.S., Ashrawi, 72, said she has visited America many times and typically makes several visits a year. With her fluent English, she is a prominent Palestinian spokeswoman on TV and has met with top U.S. officials over the past three decades.
She and Saeb Erekat go back to the Good ol' Days of Yassir and the Dread Red Binder™
Asked whether her visa denial was political, she said: "Of course," calling it "pettiness and vindictiveness."

A State Department official declined to provide details about Ashrawi's case, citing confidentiality requirements, but said the U.S. does not refuse visas based solely on people's political views or statements.

The Palestinian Authority severed ties with the Trump administration after it recognized contested Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and moved the embassy there. The U.S. responded with a series of punitive measures that have increasingly alienated Palestinians, from shuttering the U.S. consulate overseeing relations with Palestinians to slashing humanitarian aid to the West Bank and Gaza.

4 policemen martyred in blast in Quetta's Satellite Town
[DAWN] Four coppers were martyred when a blast destroyed a market in Quetta's Satellite Town on Monday night, according to Quetta Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Abdul Razzaq Cheema.

The DIG said that two coppers and seven civilians were maimed in the blast, and that a police van was damaged.

The blast, according to DIG Cheema, was the result of an improvised bomb (IED) planted in a cycle of violence parked on the roadside.

The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital, where an emergency was imposed. Security officials, meanwhile, cordoned off the area.

It is the fourth act of violence in the country since the holy month of Ramazan began. On May 8, five coppers were martyred in what officials described as a suicide kaboom targeting an Elite Force van detailed to the security of the Data Darbar shrine in Lahore.

Later the same day, three people, including a tribal leader named Wali Khan Achakzai, were killed in a blast in Killa Abdullah.

Today's blast comes two days after a terrorist attack on Pearl Continental Hotel, Gwadar in which three people were killed while four were maimed.

Jihadist special forces carry out operation behind Syrian Army lines, several soldiers killed
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist special forces, Inghimasi, carried out a new operation on Monday that targeted a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) post near the front-lines in northeastern Latakia.

According to reports, the Inghimasi fighters snuck behind the Syrian Arab Army’s lines at Tal Rasho, killing and wounding several soldiers in the process.

A Syrian military source could not confirm the total number killed, but said the estimates are between 15-20 soldiers killed as a result of this Ighimasi attack.

This latest attack by the special forces division of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
comes at the same time the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies prepare to storm the key town of Kabani in northeastern Latakia.

The Syrian Arab Army has already captured the two heights at the southern slope of the al-Zuwayqat Mountain; they will now need to secure the southern part of Kabani in order to possibly take the town within the next few days.

According to a military source, the Tiger Forces captured the towns of Tal Hawash, Hawash, and al-Jabriyah after the main line of defense for the jihadist rebels collapsed.

The Syrian Army is now pounding the remaining areas under the control of the jihadist and Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels in the northern countryside of Hama.

Venezuelan Navy confronts US ship after entering territorial waters
“We’re heeeeeeere!”
[ALMASDARNEWS] A US ship entered the Venezuelan waters, but changed course after communicating with the Venezuelan Navy, the agency said on Friday.

The USCGC James was first noticed by the Venezuelan armed forces on Wednesday. On Thursday, a Venezuelan patrol ship approached the US vessel and convinced it to change course.

"After our radio communications, the USCG James became convinced in the necessity to change its course and left our waters", the Navy said in a statement.

The USCGC James belongs to the United States Coast Guard. Some netizens have tracked the alleged presence of the US vessel in Venezuelan waters.

#7  There's roughly 100 miles between Venezuela's Exclusive Economic Zone and the US's (courtesy of the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico). Not particularly surprising that a Coast Guard vessel should be in the region, given the number of Venezuelans fleeing the country for places with functioning economies (e.g. Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands). I'd expect the Coast Guard to be pretty busy interdicting vessels trying to smuggle Venezuelans in. In fact, there should be quite a bunch of Coast Guard vessels there because of the sheer desperation of a good chunk of the Venezuelan populace.

Arabia
Lebanon-based news group claims US, French warplanes behind explosions at Fujairah Port
[ALMASDARNEWS] According to the Emirati Foreign Ministry, four merchant vessels had been targeted by "acts of sabotage" in Gulf waters off its coast.

"Four commercial, civilian trading vessels of various nationalities this morning suffered acts of sabotage off the UAE’s eastern coast," the statement reads.

The government of Fujairah denied on Sunday media reports about several heavy kabooms taking place at the emirate’s port, insisting that the port is functioning as usual.

"The press service of the Fujairah government denied media reports about powerful kabooms in the emirate’s port earlier this day and confirmed that ship traffic is as usual," the state-run WAM news agency reports.

Earlier in the day, the Leb-based al-Mayadeen broadcaster said, citing local media that several heavy kabooms occurred in the port of Fujairah.

The blasts were heard between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. local time (00:00 ‐ 03:00 GMT), the broadcaster reported, adding that from seven to 10 oil tankers were in flames. The broadcaster continued by saying that the real cause of the incident has still been unknown.

Other reports, citing eyewitnesses, suggested that American and French warplanes have been seen flying over the port at the time of the incident.

Currently, there’s no information on possible casualties, while the authorities haven’t commented on the incident yet.

Port of Fujairah is the only multi-purpose port on the Eastern seaside of the country and is connected to all other emirates within 300 km. The port stands some 70 nautical miles from the Strait of Hormuz, thus becoming increasingly important amid Iran’s threat to close the strait.

In July 2012, the UAE began utilising the Habshan-Fujairah oil pipeline from the Habshan fields in Abu Dhabi to the Fujairah, effectively bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.

Currently, the UAE is building the world’s largest crude oil storage facility in Fujairah, capable of storing up to 14 million barrels of oil.

Russian, Syrian forces restart attack on key mountaintop town in Latakia
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian and Syrian forces restarted their assault on the key mountaintop town of Kabani in the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate.

Led by Russian jets from the Hmeimim Airbase in southwest Latakia, the two forces unleashed a heavy assault on the positions of the Turkestan Islamic Party and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
in the vicinity of Kabani.

In addition to the Russian Arclight airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) 4th Armored Division has let loose a large number of missiles from their Golan-1000 launcher; this resulted in a number of direct hits on the jihadist defenses.

This morning’s attack comes just 24 hours after they attempted to storm Kabani and expel the remaining jihadist rebels from the area.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
despite the intensity of their attack, the Syrian Arab Army was ultimately unable to bypass the jihadist defenses, resulting in their subsequent withdrawal to Height 1154 at the southern slope of the al-Zuwayqat Mountain.

The Syrian Arab Army is looking to capture Kabani in the coming days as they attempt to seal off the Latakia Governorate from neighboring Idlib.

If they are successful, they will be able to impose fire control over several areas in the Jisr al-Shughour District of the Idlib Governorate.

Russian S-300 system spotted in US at test range
[ALMASDARNEWS] The US is known to have purchased at least one S-300 devoid of its electronics in the 1990s, with an American and Israeli military delegation reportedly sent to Ukraine last year to get acquainted with an upgraded version of the air defence system after Russia sent S-300s to Syria.

A military blogger has posted a satellite photo of what he believes is an S-300 system operating at a test range "somewhere in the USA."

The photo includes several of the system’s components, including 5P85PT launchers mounted on semi-trailers and its 30N6 fire control system.

The blogger, who focuses on analysis of satellite data using Google Earth on his Twitter page, did not specify the system’s location, with no further information known about whether it was operational or merely a mockup. He deleted the original post after it started to be picked up by Russian media.

The Grand Turk
Turkey to launch home made sat on StarShip?
[Daily Sabah] Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, is a candidate to launch Turkey's first nationally-built satellite, an official from Turksat said Tuesday.

The Turkish satellite operator currently has two missions to launch satellites with SpaceX, with the 5A satellite planning to be launched next year, according to the company's general manager Cenk Şen.

"It's going to be a good experience for us, too. And it's going to open doors for the next projects because they have many projects for the future of space," Şen told Anadolu Agency at the 2019 Satellite Conference in Washington. "So it's going to be a good opportunity for both companies.

"They are going to be one of the candidates in the 6A2 which is the first nationally-built satellite, [and] which is very important for Turkey," he said.

SpaceX is enthusiastic to work with Turksat and is considering the Starship spacecraft to support the next project with the Turkish company.

"I think we'll start off with Falcon Heavy missions and do great work there and then potentially move on to the next vehicle," SpaceX's President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell told Anadolu Agency. "And actually, Starship might work for the next Turksat project."

Starship is a reusable spacecraft currently under development by SpaceX, with plans to use it to transport humans to Mars.

"We're very excited about working with Turksat. It's been a good program so far, everything seems to be on track and we're really looking forward to launching," Shotwell said.

Last year, SpaceX successfully launched the Falcon Heavy, the world's most powerful rocket, into space. It can carry 140,000 pounds (63,500 kilograms) of cargo into orbit — more than double the amount of any current rocket.

Jeffrey said the U.S. will continue to pressure the Syrian government through economic sanctions and halt any normalization with Arab states until a "new political government is formed."

The U.S. official’s comments come just two months after Leb and Iraq attempted to restore Syria’s membership to the Arab League

Prior to the meeting, al-Akhbar released an exclusive article that revealed Washington’s threats to Leb if they were to push for Syria’s reinstatement in the vaporous Arab League.

Larkana’s HIV outbreak
[DAWN] FOR several years, bonfires were lighting up in small towns and villages of Sindh; bonfires turned to bushfires, and bushfires are now rapidly engulfing the forest. Brave firefighters are battling the conflagration. The fires typify the three lethal viruses: hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and occasionally, the bacterium that causes syphilis. All are capable of being transmitted through almost similar routes, ie sexual intercourse, blood, and from pregnant mother to child.

Until recently, Pakistain was rated as low burden (0.1 per cent) for HIV, but with recent recognition of the outbreak in Sindh, the statistics are likely to change to unpalatable numbers. Sadly, Pakistain also ranks highest in the world in hepatitis burden, with some areas reporting 25pc of the population infected with hepatitis viruses.

Paks have a penchant for receiving injections and drips as a quick fix in lieu of healthy nutrition and lifestyles, encouraged and instigated by both licensed and unlicensed medical practitioners. The messengers of death feel no compunction in reusing virus-contaminated needles and syringes, razors, scalpels, dental equipment, or ear- or nose-piercing instruments. Even a miniscule drop of fresh or dried blood can transmit millions of virus particles; transfusion of a single unit of infected blood will inevitably hasten the disease attack.
