North Korean uranium plant 'is leaking radioactive waste into a nearby river putting hundreds of thousands of people at risk of cancer and brain defects'
China is not going to be happy about this.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] North Korea's nuclear programme is leaking toxic waste into a river - putting hundreds of thousands of people at risk, disturbing newly-released photos suggest.

US-based researcher Jacob Bogle, who has created a comprehensive map of the country from satellite images, made the alarming discovery while looking at pictures of Pyongsan uranium mine dating back to 2003.

Mr Bogle noticed that a waste pipe built to carry toxic water from the facility - which processes coal into uranium - to a nearby reservoir appears to be leaking into a river.

That tributary runs into the Ryesong River, which in turn empties into the Yellow Sea - an area between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula around which some 600 million people live.

Mr Bogle said: 'I was able to review high-resolution historical satellite imagery for multiple years going back to 2003.

'Each of the images shows an ever-growing pile of leaked material on either end of the pipe that takes waste material from the plant to an unlined reservoir.

'Some of the images also show fluids being actively spilled directly into the river.

'The plant is one of two declared uranium milling facilities in the country. It takes low-quality coal and processes it to create yellowcake, which contains around 80 per cent uranium.

'The extraction and milling requires multiple chemical processes and leaves behind a very toxic mix of waste materials.

'That toxic waste is then sent to the nearby reservoir, leaking and travelling into the Ryesong River in the process.'

The plant lies roughly 60 miles south of the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. Mr Bogle estimates that, within just nine miles of the Ryesong, there could be as many as 400,000 people consuming the river water or the crops fed by it.

The Ryesong ultimately empties into the Han River estuary, which in turn empties into the Yellow Sea, around 50 miles away.

Mr Bogle said: 'The waste material will contain everything that is left over from the coal and any contaminated water.

'Uranium milling produces radium, which is radioactive, and that will be sent through the leaking pipe along with the other contaminants like lead, arsenic, vanadium, and other heavy metals.

'The radium will decay into the gas radon, which will enter the atmosphere each time the plant runs, while the other materials will leak into any groundwater sources and of course be carried downriver.'

He continued: 'Defector testimony from other nuclear-related sites like Yongbyon and the nuclear-test mountain site Punggye-ri report major health effects, such as cancer, respiratory problems, and birth defects.

'There is no reason to suspect the people near Pyongsan are immune to the effects of radon and heavy metals.

'Radon will be carried throughout the area and can cause lung cancer. Lead and arsenic poisoning can cause neurological problems, especially among children.

'At dangerous levels, the other heavy metals can cause a wide range of health problems.

'Some of these issues would normally be temporary, but since the river provides drinking water and is used in agriculture, the people have been routinely exposed.'

The plant was constructed in the 1980s ‐ and though imagery of the site is only available from 2003 onwards, Jacob says that even in those early photos the leak is visible.

'It has been ongoing for at least 16 years,' he said.

To get an idea of just how much could have leaked in that time, Mr Bogle has also analysed the buildup of waste in the nearby reservoir.

He estimates that the sludge pile there grew by 18,000 square metres in just three years, from 2016 to 2019.

'The leak only occurs whenever the plant is in production,' he said. 'But given the enormous growth of the sludge pile within the reservoir, it wouldn't be an aggressive estimate to suggest that at least hundreds of gallons of contaminated material are spilled into the river each day the plant runs.'

Because of the closed-off nature of North Korea, the leak can't be verified on the ground but Mr Bogle, whose map of the country is freely downloadable at accessdprk.com, believes the available evidence is clear.

'North Korea is not properly storing the material and the leakage is visible for all to see,' he said.

'When combined with the known health problems associated with those materials and the defector testimony from across the country, it becomes undeniable that a very serious environmental and health crisis is brewing in this part of North Korea.'

Japan warns North Korea now has miniaturized nukes small enough to fit on its ballistic missiles and is a 'serious and imminent threat'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] North Korea has miniaturised nuclear warheads and made them small enough to fit on ballistic missiles, Japan believes.

Tokyo defence chiefs warn in a new white paper that North Korea's military activities pose a 'serious and imminent threat'.

In last year's report Japan said it was 'possible' that North Korea had achieved miniaturisation, but Tokyo now appears to have upgraded its assessment, according to Japanese newspaper Yomiuri.

Japan is seen as a 'primary target' of nearby North Korea's weapons capabilities and fears that Pyongyang's nuclear programme is 'growing unabated', experts say.

The latest findings come alongside newly-released pictures which suggest a North Korean plant may be leaking hazardous waste into a nearby river.

Lena Dunham Finds Her Happy Place
Pretentious and uninteresting codswallop makes for perfect morning reading. Complete with pretentious and uninteresting photos...
[Domino, via Drudge] - MY MOTHER IS OBSESSED with real estate. Not a casual perusing-homes-for-sale-in-the-Sunday-paper kind of obsessed. It’s more than even a "let’s sneak into this open house and pretend we’re interested in buying this Spanish Tudor" kind of obsession. This obsession borders on romantic. She’s never been content in a home for more than a few months before she starts fantasizing about the next one, searching and craving and driving everyone around her mad with her desire to level up.

I’ve often tried to understand what she’s after. It’s not the classic American desire for more (more space, more windows, more clout), and it’s not about how she looks to other people or what her neighborhood says about her place in the pecking order. That’s far too basic a reading of the situation, considering she’s downsized, upsized, and resized in no particular order. She’s dragged our family with her, and the most major fights of my parents’ 44-year relationship have been on this topic (it’s a miracle that they survived the Williamsburg rental with the black lacquered kitchen and faux Warhol wallpaper). Her hunger takes no prisoners (unless you count the guests who had to sleep in the room off the kitchen of our unwinterized farmhouse). I sometimes have trouble differentiating between the exteriors of the homes we’ve lived in and homes we’ve driven by when she took the long way just to get a peek.

Ex-RNC Chair Makes Ominous Prediction About Donald Trump's 2020 Tactics
[Huffpoo] Former Republican National Committee chair Michael
"Employed by MSNBC"
Steele has warned voters what to expect from President Donald Trump in the run-up to the 2020 election.

And in light of Trump’s controversial claim that Jewish Americans who vote for Democrats are disloyal or uninformed, Steele predicted the president’s tactics and rhetoric will be "in stark contrast to what we saw in 2016."

"As abhorrent and disrespecting as it is, we need to just settle in because this is just the warmup of what will be a series of narratives created by the president around particular interest groups," Steele said on Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s "Hardball with Chris Matthews."
"Interest groups"... are you referring to the tribal, identity politics folks ?
"When you sit down and you say this about the Jewish community, then what about African Americans, what about Hispanics, how they vote?" he added.

"This, I think, is something in stark contrast to what we saw in 2016. I think it’s going to be more personal, and a little bit more in-depth," Steele explained. "It’s going to cut a little closer to the bone for a lot of Americans when they have their religion shoved in their face and a litmus test of how they vote based on that religion."

#15  All bets are off. We live in a climate of fear.
The polls do not accurately capture what people think or feel, and will not predict what they will do next November.

In the current hysterical and vindictive climate few if any who live and works in a deep or even moderately blue environment will dare to voice any thought that could in any way be construed as possibly pro-Trump. That's risking retaliation (by the employer), ostracism (by colleagues), and denunciation (by a 1,000 little manic online jacobins).

What will happen is that the millions who have been silenced will speak loud and clear in the privacy of the voting booth next November.

Delicious Divide: Dems & Neocons Align Against Israeli Nationalists & Trump
[Barely A Blog] A delicious divide has opened up, one that strengthens the Trumpian, populist, anti-globalist, national-sovereignty impetus. The divide is between American establishment politicians and Israel, BUT it’s a divide that both highlights and strengthens the MAGA, America-First movement.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Democrat from Florida, Joe Lieberman, former Senator and bosom buddy of neocons John McCain, and AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee): They’ve all shown their anti-nationalist, globalist, leftist, values-enforcer credentials, coming out in opposition to the nationalist faction in Israeli politics, which wishes to bar America’s most repulsive political agitators from acting out in the Jewish State.

Israel actually wanted to "send them home."

Science & Technology
How city living effects your health and happiness
Excerpts:
[BBC] A recent study has likened city air pollution to smoking a pack of cigarettes each day for 29 years. While the effect on our lungs is undoubtedly troubling, we should also be wary of what the air we breathe is doing to the rest of our bodies.

The World Health Organization (WHO) now calls urban pollution levels a "public health emergency" because 91% of us live in areas where air pollution exceeds the agency’s guidelines. Right now, 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas. That figure is expected to rise to 68% by 2050, the United Nations estimates. If urban life is a serious concern for our health, mental wellbeing and outlook, then it is only going to become a greater issue for more of us as time passes.

Mental wellbeing

Prevalence of psychiatric disorders is significantly higher among people living in urban areas, says a meta-analysis of 20 pieces of research conducted over the past 35 years. Specifically, people in cities suffer from mood disorders and anxiety at a disproportionately high rate.

Compare this to residents who have a sea view ‐ for every 10% increase in the amount of ocean people can see, people’s scores on the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale decreased by one-third of a point. The researchers suggest that "a 20 to 30% increase in blue space visibility could shift someone from moderate distress into a lower category".

Education

Perhaps one of the more surprising ways that cities affect us is by making us less clever. Comparing the results of students taking exams with levels of air pollution on the day of exams shows that performances are worse when pollution is highest. The performance of students completing the same exams in the same cities on different days was compared to the levels of pollution on those days. Even small differences in pollution levels were found to have an effect on educational outcomes.

This has a real effect on outcomes later in life. A study in Israel found that high levels of fine particle pollution in the air on the day of high school exit exams had a negative effect on wages in adulthood.

Benjamin Yu: Why Chinese-Americans like me are embracing the GOP
[The Hill] For a century, Chinese Americans have been among the least partisan and politically engaged ethnic Asian groups in America. Because we’ve lived largely in urban and suburban areas in coastal liberal states, we have tended to be affiliated with Democratic Party, even while espousing conservative values.

But over the last few years, I’ve witnessed more of my fellow Chinese-Americans abandoning the Democratic Party and generally becoming more politically conservative. There are several reasons for this, including Chinese Americans’ cultural conservatism and the Democratic Party’s slide toward socialism, which reminds many of us of the communism we fled in China.

The Republican Party is a natural home for Chinese-Americans, who tend to value free enterprise, individual responsibility, law and order, education and family cohesion. Many Chinese-Americans have been alienated by the Democrats’ emphasis on political correctness, social justice, wealth re-distribution and LGBTQ rights.

Chinese-Americans have often been the victims of the identity politics that Democrats have deployed over the last several decades through academia and the media‐including the push to institute racial preferences in college admissions, which disproportionately hurts high-achieving Asian-American students.

Past generations of Asian-Americans came to America largely as economic migrants or educated professionals from southern China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other Asian countries. They tended to settle quietly and happily into America’s middle class.

Over the last decade or two, America has seen a strong inflow of immigrants from mainland China who came in search of freedom and better educational opportunities. Recent arrivals are beneficiaries of China’s economic boom, and they are more likely to favor individual liberty, limited government and low taxes. As Chinese-Americans have succeeded, they have become more conservative.

Yeah, when its your own money, you have a tendency to find the government stealing it to give to the chronically non-productive types to be a bit abhorrent. Guess who the real slave is? As in the fruits of their labors are taken by the big plantation owners and redistributed as they see fit.

#3  Chinese-Americans have always been more conservative than the average American but I believe they just accepted what was reported by the liberal media until recently. Now they are looking around and seeing that the 'racist' GOP has been standing by them for over a decade regarding colleges racist anti-Asian entry requirements.

The GOP stands by them on principle not because of race but I suspect this clear example was easily extrapolated out to other GOP policies in which the GOP stand was said to be racist but wasn't and they Chinese-American community is waking up to the lies they've been told.

NYT editor REVEALS the real reason the media is ignoring Omar and Tlaib's anti-Semitism
BLUF:
[Right Scoop] What Weiss says is quite revealing, but I don’t agree with her last statement. It’s not a problem of "this moment." Rather, it’s a problem that only exists because much of the national media is nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the Democratic Party. The MSM has been infested with a bunch of liberals who believe that their job is to push an agenda rather than report the actual news. And that agenda is defeating Trump and getting a Democrat, no matter how crazy, elected in his place.

The reason that "everything" Trump touches becomes toxic is because they hate him so much. That’s why they aren’t covering this huge scandal and are giving Omar and Tlaib a pass.

Mitt Romney Wants a Carbon Tax, Says Climate Change is Happening – Insists He Will Work for Those ‘Left Behind' Like Coal Miners
[KUTV via Gateway Pundit] U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney said Monday that he believes climate change is happening and human activity is a significant contributor.

During a speech at the conservative Sutherland Institute in Salt Lake City, the senator acknowledged that the position is rare among his fellow Republicans, but one that younger people seem to respond to more strongly than older conservatives.

"In some respects, (by speaking with newer conservatives), I’ll be able to make inroads with some of the young people coming along," he said...

...The U.S. should instead provide incentivizes for entrepreneurs to develop cleaner energy sources while also helping people who work in industries that could be left behind, such as coal mining, he added.

"I’m not willing to sit by if there are major sectors that are losers ... and watch people and communities suffer because of that change," he said.

Romney discussed the benefits of a carbon tax, a fee based on each ton of carbon dioxide emissions produced by fossil fuels that some major oil companies have adopted.

The fallout over the aborted Rancida Taliban and Bro-Fo Omar Israel stunt
[Ace of Spades] Good morning, kids. The fallout over the aborted Rancida Taliban and Bro-Fo Omar Israel stunt is at the top of the heap this Tuesday. That includes both the less than surprising fact of both of the taqqiya twins' links to a known terror-linked organization (which they are taking the Sgt. Schultz defense on) and the Democrat Party seemingly trying to back away from an anti-Israel and anti-Semitic position that many besides these two and the other two stooges in "The Squad" are embracing.

The group in question, Miftah, along with verifiable ties to terrorism, is well known for spreading Julius Streicher level bilge about Jews and Israel along with the baseline position of wiping the Jewish state off the map. But poor Rancida claimed ignorance despite Miftah's sponsoring of the trip, and then threw fellow odious vermin like Luis Guttierez and Hank Guam-Tipper under the bus for a similar junket a few years back. Meanwhile, as some Democrats are desperate for these psychos to shut their mouths and lay low, Bro-Fo Omar just kept on opening her brother's and/or husband's penis receptacle to spew the same Jew-hatred while Toothy McBigTits appeared on some college pirate radio outlet going on about the heretofore-unknown phenomenon of "Jewish white supremacists" as well as the usual garbage about "occupation" and so on. As if that wasn't enough, they promoted the work of a hideous anti-Semitic cartoonist on Instagram (funny how that's allowed but pro-life groups and conservatives are banned).

The Dems may indeed be desperate for them to shut their mouths but it doesn't excuse their silence about these four and Miftah, among other things. In fact their silence is a tell, although in reality, the Joo-hatred goes back at least 20 years or more. It's just the eruptions into the open air being just another indicator of the internecine struggle between the Left hand and the Far Left hand for control of the whole shooting match. Meh, bring it on. Just like all the other Democrat-Leftist madness of the past three years, the more it's out in the open for all the world to see, the more it will repulse the general public. Inshalla.

Indonesia deploys troops to West Papua region as protests spread
[Aljazeera] Jakarta, Indonesia - Indonesia has deployed more troops to the restive West Papua, as demonstrations continue to spread to several communities in the region, with reports of injuries and more attacks that belie earlier assurances by the government that the unrest had been contained.

President Joko Widodo's top Security Minister, Wiranto, told reporters on Tuesday that Jakarta will deploy more troops to the region to anticipate protests on Wednesday, when demonstrators are expected to hold bigger rallies.

Wiranto did not say if the government deployed military or police officers. But a video obtained by Al Jazeera showed hundreds of military and police personnel arriving in Manokwari, where the most violent of protests first took place on Monday, leaving government buildings and business establishments burned to the ground.

Major General Sisriadi, a spokesman for Indonesia's armed forces, told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that the military has sent 300 troops to Manokwari.

The Moment I Realized Biden's Candidacy Is Doomed
[Hot Air] I mentioned this clip in a post this morning but reading about it is one thing and watching it is another. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pitch based on "electability" quite this naked ‐ or depressing ‐ certainly not in a field as big as the one Biden’s facing. Hillary made an electability pitch against Bernie in 2016 but that was a binary choice for voters and her opponent was a self-proclaimed socialist. It would have been malpractice not to highlight his radicalism as a strike against him.

By contrast, Jill Biden isn’t even making a point about radicalism in the clip below. She’s not claiming that the rest of this year’s field in its entirety is too far out on the fringe. How could she, really, when candidates like Amy Klobuchar are still hanging around?

Rather her point is this simple: At this particular moment in time, 14 months out from the election and seven months out from Super Tuesday, Joe polls better against Trump than anyone else. Ergo, he should be nominated. That’s all there is to her pitch.

What if Warren’s ascendance continues and she starts polling better against Trump? What’s left of the case for Biden?

Jonathan Bernstein wrote about electability yesterday, asking a pertinent question: What the hell is it, exactly? How electable did Hillary turn out to be?

#6  With Biden as the candidate:
* He is white as white can be so you lose the 'not an old white man' appeal against Trump.
* Bidens touchy gropy things means you lose the war on women argument against Trump.
* Biden's foot is in his mouth as often as Trumps so excusing his gaffs means you can't then attack Trumps without everyone noticing.
* Biden's legacy is Obama's legacy and the Dems have already started shredding that in their primaries. Reach further down the Biden resume and you have nothing. So comparing experience is out.
* I don't know if you can even say his hair is better, it sort of fades into his pale scalp but Trump's hair is entertaining.
* Biden has better name recognition than anyone else in the primaries but even before he was President Trump has higher name recognition.

By all means make Biden the leader of the Democrats.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Sebring man arrested for botching castration on victim he met on dark web, deputies say
SEBRING, Fla. (WFLA) ‐ A Highlands County man is behind bars after deputies say he performed a botched castration in his home on a man he met through the dark web.

The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Orday Road in Sebring just before midnight on Sunday for a 911 hang-up call. When they got to the home, they say 74-year-old Gary Van Ryswyk answered the door and told deputies he had just performed a castration on a man.

Responding deputies say they went inside and found a man on the bed with a towel over his groin area, which was bleeding heavily. He was taken to the hospital and was later flown to a regional medical center. Authorities say he is stable.

According to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, the room in the home was set up like a surgical center with medical equipment and painkillers. A camera was also set up to record the procedure, the post says.

Deputies say Van Ryswyk told them he met the victim on a website on the dark web for people with a castration fetish. The sheriff’s office says he told the victim he had experience on animals and had performed a procedure on himself back in 2012.

"He also said he had done a similar procedure on a man in a local motel a few years ago that turned out pretty much like this one, but couldn’t remember the other man’s name. The man went to the hospital, but law enforcement was not notified," the sheriff’s office said in its Facebook post.

Van Ryswyk was arrested on Monday and charged with practicing medicine without a license resulting in bodily injury. His bond has been set at $250,000.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on Van Ryswyk to call them at (863) 402-7250 or email detectives@highlandssheriff.com.

5 Reasons Why Planned Parenthood Is Fake Feminism
[Townhall] Ok. I realize that listing only five points eliminates thousands of other really good reasons, they serve as powerful reminders. Planned Parenthood, contrary to their victimhood tweets, opted out of #TitleX funding because abortion is more important to them than their "family planning" patients.

Planned Parenthood President, Alexis McGill Johnson, confirmed with CBS (prior to the defunding) that she voted along with the organization’s board to "ensure that abortion was one of our core services that every center affiliated with Planned Parenthood would provide." CBS then asked, regarding Title-X funding: "Is there a scenario where you would discontinue abortion services in order to make everything else you do easier, better funded, and just easier for your patients?" McGill Johnson answered: "Absolutely not."

Planned Parenthood is the embodiment of fake feminism, a term (like many others) they’ve decided to reinvent. The dictionary defines it as "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes [of which there are only two]" and "organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests."

Planned Parenthood does not fight for women’s rights, but their own right to harm and kill females in and out of the womb.

So, let’s run down this short, but significant, list.

Trump considers new tax CUT to boost US economy
[BBC] President Donald Trump has confirmed he is considering a new, temporary payroll tax cut to help boost the US economy.

White House officials had earlier dismissed reports that the administration was discussing the move.

But speaking to reporters, the president said a "payroll tax is something that we think about, and a lot of people would like to see that".

US workers pay payroll taxes on their earnings to finance health insurance, social security, and pensions.

Mr Trump has been talking up the US economy in recent days amid growing unease about a potential recession. "We're very far from a recession," he told the reporters.

A strong economy is seen as key to his re-election prospects in 2020, but continuing trade tensions with China have sparked concerns about an imminent slowdown.

Tax cuts when the president took office helped boost the economy and sparked a surge in share prices on Wall Street. But many economists think the impact of those cuts is starting to wane.

The president said: "We're looking at various other tax reductions - but I'm looking at that all the time anyway. Tax reductions - that's one of the reasons why we're in such a strong economic position."

He also suggested his administration was looking at possible cuts in capital gains tax, but emphasised that nothing has been decided. Such a move would be likely to face challenges from Democrats in Congress.

Why Farmers Aren't Going To Abandon Trump Over The Trade War
[Federalist] You’ve all seen the headlines: "China is hitting the U.S. where it hurts: Soybeans," and "China takes aim at America’s soybean farmers," and "Soybean farmers are still paying for Trump’s trade war" (all from CNN).

The popular narrative goes that because President Trump launched a trade war against China, China has retaliated by tariffing America’s chief export to China‐agricultural products‐which happen to mostly come from red states that voted for Trump. China is "crushing prices" with its retaliatory tariffs, says HBO’s Vice News. In other words, the media narrative goes, China is punishing Trump voters for being dumb enough to vote for a trade warrior.

Before the midterms, the media took its narrative one step further. Just about every mainstream media publication ran a story that said farmers may abandon Republicans because of Trump’s trade war. Quartz, for example, wrote: "New tariffs on pork exports have forced some U.S. hog producers to liquidate parts of their farming operations. One farmer who spoke to Reuters said Trump’s trade war with China cost him $200,000 this year, and that he regretted voting for Trump in 2016. He isn’t alone"

In other words, "When will the dumb Trump-supporting farmers realize that they have been conned?" You can rest assured that this narrative will once again surface before 2020’s election. Except that none of it is true. American farmers are certainly hurting, but little of this is due to the trade war. The media is trying to take advantage of American farmers’ pain for political purposes.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: U.S. anti-Hezbollah Sanctions to Target Christian Ministers, Businessmen
[AnNahar] U.S. sanctions will soon target Christian ministers and businessmen accused by Washington of aiding Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
, a media report said.

"There is a lot of talk about U.S. sanctions on Hizbullah’s allies, especially those close to the presidency, the Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
, the Marada Movement
the personal militia of Suleiman Franjieh, president of Lebanon at the outbreak of the civil war, currently Syrian toadies, but you never know when that could change...
and the Syrian Social National Party," al-Akhbar newspaper quoted "friends of Washington" as saying in remarks published Monday.

The U.S. administration sees "a need to expand the sanctions campaign to target politicians, including ministers, and businessmen who work inside and outside Leb, most of whom are supporters of the FPM, the Marada Movement and the SSNP," the sources added.

Those who will be targeted are figures who are "close to FPM and Marada ministers as well as to the leaderships of the two movements," the sources went on to say, noting that they are accused of facilitating Hizbullah’s transactions.

"Any sanctions will not be exclusively limited to fund transfer operations but will also completely impede the movement and travel of those targeted," the sources added.

Palestinian teen indicted, 2 men held in Tisha B’Av attack on Jewish driver
[IsraelTimes] Several men seen in Jerusalem video footage smashing car’s windows with rocks, striking Haredi driver, until cop shoots in air to scatter attackers.

An East Jerusalem teen was charged Tuesday with taking part in a violent attack on an Israeli driver passing through a Paleostinian neighborhood of the capital.

In dramatic footage of the incident in the early hours of August 11, young men can be seen surrounding a car driven by a man in Haredi dress near the intersection of Salah ad-Din and Sultan Suleiman streets in East Jerusalem.

The men can be seen smashing the car’s windows with rocks and other objects, and attacking the driver. According to media reports, they also sprayed him with pepper spray.

The attack was stopped when a police officer in an unmarked car in front of the driver stepped out of his vehicle and fired three shots into the air, scattering the attackers.

The driver was lightly hurt in the attack, and was taken to hospital with a bleeding but superficial head wound. The car was heavily damaged, according to Hebrew media reports.

Three suspects were arrested last week after police obtained the security footage of the attack, including a 17-year-old charged Tuesday with assault. The other two suspects were later released, but on Monday police arrested two other East Jerusalem men, aged 19 and 21, authorities said Tuesday.

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court has extended their remand until Thursday.

Earlier in the evening, a right-wing Israeli march had passed by the same intersection near the Old City, drawing anger from locals. Police were needed to keep the groups separated.

Australia to join U.S.-led defense effort in Strait of Hormuz
[Jpost] Australia has agreed to a request from the United States to join a coalition of countries protecting oil tankers and cargo ships from threats posed by Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
in the Straits of Hormuz, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Wednesday.

"This destabilizing behavior is a threat to Australia's interests in the region," Morrison told a news conference.

"The government has decided that it is in Australia's national interest to work with our international partners to contribute. Our contribution will be limited in scope and it will be time-bound," he said

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported that Canberra would send frigates and surveillance aircraft to the region.

Authorities make more arrests in Indian Kashmir to deter protests
[Jpost] Security forces detained 30 people overnight in Indian Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
's main city of Srinagar, local officials said on Tuesday, seeking to keep a tight lid on protests over the federal government's decision to strip the region of its autonomy.

Crowds have demonstrated frequently in the city despite a severe clampdown on phone and internet services, a ban on public gatherings and detentions of hundreds of politicians and separatists who have long campaigned for secession from India.

Youth have pelted stones at paramilitary police deployed in Srinagar, and the latest detentions took place in parts of the city where such incidents have occurred, a police officer said.

"These arrests have been made in the areas where there has been intensifying stone pelting in the last few days," the officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
because of the sensitivity of the situation.

A local government official confirmed the latest detentions.

Authorities in Indian Kashmir on Monday said the protests were local and small in nature involving no more than a dozen people. Still, primary schools remained deserted on Tuesday as they were the previous day as parents worried about the safety of their children kept them at home.

Rooters visited three schools in Srinagar including Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School and no students had turned up and classes were deserted.

"Some teachers reported to duty but left as there were no students", said an official of the school.

Authorities had ordered schools to reopen on Monday after a two-week closure as a sign of normality. Srinagar's top city official Shahid Choudhary asked schools to ensure resumption of bus services.

A driver, however, said it was difficult to operate buses in such a volatile situation. "It is very risky for us and the students," he said.

#1  Of course it'll take a while. Both for normalcy to return and for Kashmiris to stop worrying and learn to love the boot.

Normalcy is not returning after a month, it has not been there for decades. The normalcy that the islamics want shall never return to Kashmir.

Shariah laws, impunity from arrest, anti-police and anti-India activities. Masked agitation, the dung green islamic flag, the isis flags, cursing and stoning cops, attacking their families. Bomb blasts and attacks every other day. It's not coming back.

The jamaat sponsored extremism may try to resurrect itself in a pre-mortem surge of resistance, but most of its means and facilitators have been cut off.

Dominican's Largest Drug Trafficking Gang Dismantled After Raids
In which a variety of jihadi groups lose some small percentage of their profits from the drugs trade to the infidel West..
[Jpost] The Dominican Republic's top prosecutor said on Tuesday that the Caribbean nation's largest drug trafficking gang has been dismantled, a group that allegedly used two former professional baseball players to launder assets.

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Octavio Dotel was arrested earlier on Tuesday, while Luis Castillo, also a former player, was named by authorities as being part of the gang.

More than 40 raids were carried out across the country in connection with the case, according to Dominican Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez.

Rodriguez told news hounds at a news conference that the case marks the largest anti-narcotics operation in the recent history of the Dominican Republic.

He said the gang allegedly run by nightclub owner Cesar Emilio Peralta controlled one of the region's biggest drug trafficking operations, transporting illicit drugs including cocaine from South America to both the United States and Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
Rooters could not immediately locate Dotel, Castillo or Peralta, or their lawyers, for comment.

Democrats spending millions to try to take back statehouses
Key bits. Details about various states and communities at the link for those interested.
[AlAhram] Democrats still shaken by the 2010 tea party wave that netted Republicans six governors' offices, flipped 21 statehouse chambers and drove nearly 700 Democratic state politicians from office are mounting a comeback, pouring millions of dollars into state level races.

The cash deluge shows how the consequences of next year's elections run far deeper than President Donald Trump

Newly empowered Republicans used that process to their favor following the tea party victories, and Democrats want to use the same playbook.

"There is, especially for this cycle, a very strong focus on redistricting,'' Terry said.

The stakes are particularly high following a recent Supreme Court ruling that decided federal courts have no business policing political boundary disputes in many cases. The ruling doesn't apply to districts gerrymandered along racial lines but otherwise gives states wide latitude to draw maps with little concern for an eventual judicial rebuke.

Planned Parenthood Refuses Title X Funding in Response to Trump Administration Restrictions
Good. Anyway, they’ll more than make it up in private donations.
All $ which won't be going to Dem Candidates/PACs
[NATIONALREVIEW] Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party.

will refuse all Title X funding rather than comply with the Trump administration’s restrictions governing the discussion of child sacrifice abortion at clinics that participate in the program, the group announced Monday.

Planned Parenthood decided to abandon Title X, which accounts for roughly 15 percent of its overall federal funding each year, in response to a Trump administration rule barring clinics that participate in the program from referring women to child sacrifice abortion providers.

"When you have an unethical rule that will limit what providers can tell our patients, it becomes really important that we not agree to be in the program. But to be clear we’re doing that because we’re being forced out," the group said in a Monday statement. "Trump’s administration is trying to force us to keep information from our patients. The gag rule is unethical, dangerous, and we will not subject our patients to it."

Prior to its withdrawal, Planned Parenthood was receiving $60 million of the $286 million allocated annually through Title X. The organization will continue to receive roughly $500 million in annual Medicaid reimbursements from the federal government.

A federal appeals court ruled in July that the Trump administration’s rule change could take effect while a lawsuit, brought by Planned Parenthood and other groups in February, runs its course. The Department of Health and Human Services then gave Planned Parenthood until August 19 to submit a plan demonstrating that it would make "good faith efforts" to comply with the new rule. Planned Parenthood requested a stay from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals last week that would have delayed the rule-implementation deadline its legal challenge was resolved, but the court rejected that request.

Ubari military source says Haftar boosting foothold at oil facilities fearing losing them
[Libya Observer] A convoy of 75 military vehicles coming from eastern Libya entered Sharara oilfield on Monday, local media outlets reported a military source from Ubari as saying. ‏

The source, who asked to remain anonymous, said Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
's forces which arrived from eastern Libya aim to secure oil fields after the defeat of their fellow forces in Murzuq and loss of grip on the south.

"Haftar's forces are afraid that an attack on oil fields could take place and thus be kicked out of them by the South Protection Force. Haftar's forces entry to the south and their violations in there escalated tensions among the locals." The source added.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, the partisans of Honorius went for their knives and the partisans of Stilicho went for the doors...
Haftar's forces withdrew from Murzuq after heavy festivities with South Protection Force backed by fighters from Tubu tribespeople who had been discriminated against and oppressed by Haftar's forces inside Murzuq in last February.

Chief of Ajdabiya security orders use of live ammunition against police stations attackers
[Libya Observer] Chief of Ajdabiya security service, Sadiq Allwati has ordered the security members of the city's directorate to take action against those who shoot up security premises and cop shoppes within the city.

Allwati permitted security members to respond strongly and use live ammunition against assailants, saying that those who point their weapons towards the security services should be treated like ISIS.

Analysists say that this demonstrates the deteriorating security situation in Ajdabiya, like other areas controlled by Haftar's militias in the eastern and southern parts of the country.

Italy's political crisis comes to a head as PM tipped to quit
[DAWN] Italia's political crisis comes to a head on Tuesday with speculation that Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte will resign after far-right Interior Minister Matteo Salvini pulled the plug on the dysfunctional coalition government.

Conte is due to speak in the Senate today following a week of fallout from Salvini's dramatic decision to back out of the alliance on August 8, plunging the eurozone's third-largest economy into political turmoil.

Salvini's anti-immigrant League party has been soaring in opinion polls during months of squabbling over key policy decisions with the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S).

Salvini, who is also deputy prime minister, hopes to trigger early elections, which polls suggest his League party and right-wing allies could win.

Conte is expected to make a speech, widely touted to be scathing of Salvini's behaviour, but it is not yet clear whether he will then immediately resign or wait for the outcome of a no confidence vote.

Egypt court sentences six to death for killing three people, forming illegal group in 2013
The article doesn’t say this is the final judgement, so we can assume the case is still wending its way through the appeals process.
[AlAhram] A Cairo Criminal Court sentenced six defendants to death on Monday in the case commonly known as "the popular resistance committee" in Kerdasa
...known as a Muslim Brotherhood stronghold...
over violent and terrorist acts committed in 2013.

It also sentenced 41 defendants, including 28 in absentia, for life in prison, and seven defendants for 15 years behind bars.

The court acquitted 14 other defendants in the same case.

The prosecution charged the defendants with forming an illegal group called "the popular resistance committee" in Giza's Kedasa and Nahya districts, disrupting the provisions of the constitution and law, and preventing state authorities from performing their duties.
Among other festivities, they destroyed seven churches and shot RPGs at the police station, resulting in about 150 dead ...
They were also charged with killing three people, including a State Security Department's conscript, the possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives, the torching of Kerdasa municipality council building, and the use of force against citizens.

The defendants can appeal the verdict.

This is one in a series of cases related to violent offences committed following the 2013 dispersal of the Moslem Brüderbund sit-in in Rabaa al-Adawiya and Nahda Squares.
That was when the Brotherhood activists, fleeing the police, holed up in several nearby mosques they were using as armories. They opened fire at the police from the minarets — the other purpose minarets were designed for.

Uneasy calm descends on Tripoli frontlines as Haftar's forces advance on Gharyan fails

's forces, the latter, positioned in Urban town between Gharyan and Tarhouna, have attempted to advance on Gharyan but failed.

A source from the operations room of Volcano of Rage Operation of the Libyan Army in Gharyan said they had managed to thwart Haftar's forces attack and attempted advance on the city via Ghout al-Reeh in south Gharyan, adding that they are in full control of the area and the whole city of Gharyan.

The source indicated that Gharyan Protection Force backed by western military zone forces started combing through all areas around Ghout al-Reeh toward Urban town.

In the meantime, a source from Volcano of Rage Operation said the Libyan Army under the command of the Presidential Council's government is preparing for the next phase of the fighting - the biggest battle - against Haftar's forces in southern Tripoli.

"The Libyan Army is setting up two control rooms of drones ahead of a turning point for the air power in this fighting against Haftar's forces." The source added, denying that Haftar's warplanes hit any of their drones or control rooms.

According to the source, groups of fighters from Haftar's forces with their weapons are constantly surrendering to the Libyan Army and the latest group was two days ago on Ain Zara frontline.

"Upon interrogating some of them, they said they no longer have trust in their leaders as they haven't been contacted for advancing or any other orders for a long time." The source further added.

Army chief confirms life sentence for serving major over misuse of authority
[DAWN] Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment awarded to a serving army major for misusing his authority, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The major was tried by a Field General Court Martial, which found the officer guilty of misusing his authority.

"Pakistain Army, alive to its institutional accountability system has dismissed the officer from service and sent him to jail for life," the ISPR statement added.

The military's media wing did not reveal the name of the officer or further details of the case against him.

Earlier this year, the army chief had ratified the punishment awarded to two senior retired army officers and one civil officer "on the charges of espionage/ leakage of sensitive information to foreign agencies prejudice to the national security".

Those convicted and sentenced at the time were retired Lt Gen Javed Iqbal, who was awarded 14-year rigorous imprisonment, retired Brig Raja Rizwan, and Dr Wasim Akram, who according to the ISPR was employed at a 'sensitive organization'.

Raja Rizwan and Wasim Akram were awarded the death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...

Afghanistan
US Announces $125M In Aid To Afghanistan
[ToloNews] Through this aid, vulnerable Afghans as well as IDPs, and flood-affected families will be helped.

The United States announces an additional amount of nearly $125 million in humanitarian assistance to meet the needs of vulnerable Afghans inside Afghanistan, including internally displaced persons, conflict and flood-affected communities, and Afghan returnees, the US Embassy in Kabul said in a statement on Tuesday.

By this aid, the total US funding in this fiscal year to the Afghan humanitarian response reaches nearly $190 million, including for Afghan refugees in the region.

The United States urges all countries to make or increase their contributions to the UN humanitarian appeal for Afghanistan, which is currently only 27 percent funded, the statement said.

Additional support from the entire international community is essential to meet the urgent needs of large number of vulnerable people in Afghanistan, the statement added.

The United States remains committed to supporting the most vulnerable Afghans and stands with the Afghan people in their dedication to helping create an Afghanistan in which all its citizens have the opportunity to live in peace and dignity.

The statement said the amount will support life-saving activities that provide emergency food, nutrition, clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, emergency health, disaster preparedness and risk reduction, shelter, protection, humanitarian coordination and logistics, and non-food items and relief commodities.

It also supports refugee repatriation grants, education, livelihoods and other efforts to promote long-term integration of returning refugees, the statement said.

Pakistan to take Kashmir dispute with India to International Court of Justice
[DAWN] The government announced on Tuesday it would take the Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
dispute with India to the International Court of Justice, after New Delhi revoked special status for Indian Kashmire earlier this month, to the fury of Islamabad.

"We have decided to take Kashmir case to the International Court of Justice," Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi

told ARY News TV.

"The decision was taken after considering all legal aspects."

Separately, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan confirmed to news hounds following a cabinet meeting that an in-principle approval had been granted by the cabinet to take the issue to the world court.

She said that the case will be presented with a focus on the violation of human rights

Plans detailed for first US mission to land on moon since Apollo
[DAWN] The first American spacecraft expected to land on the moon in nearly 50 years will be a robotic moon lander built by closely held Astrobotic Technology Inc and launched in two years by United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket, the companies said on Monday.

Astrobotic was one of nine companies chosen in November to compete for $2.6 billion to develop small space vehicles and other technology for 20 missions to explore the lunar surface over the next decade.

Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic picked Vulcan, being developed by a joint venture of Boeing Co and Lockheed Martin Corp , to launch its Peregrine lander from Florida’s Cape Canaveral in summer 2021. Barring schedule slips, Astrobotic said Peregrine would be the first American spacecraft to touch down on the moon since Apollo astronauts touched down in 1972.

The mission will ferry technology and experiments to the moon under a Nasa programme that will lay the groundwork for astronaut trips by 2024 under the optimistic schedule laid out by the Trump administration. "Our first flight on Vulcan is also the first big step in going back to the moon," United Launch Alliance Chief Executive Tory Bruno said ahead of the announcement.

Suspects booked for sectarian violence in last 10 years to be arrested
[DAWN] As part of security measures for Muharram, City Police Officer (CPO) Mohammad Faisal Rana on Monday directed police to arrest all suspects who have been booked on charges of sectarian violence and under the National Action Plan (NAP) during the last decade but are still on the lam.

He also directed them to ensure daily attendance of all fourth schedulers at the relevant cop shoppes.

The directives were issued during two separate meetings the CPO held with the sub-divisional coppers (SDPO) and station house officers (SHO) of the respective police circles, cop shoppes and with all the three divisional superintendents of police (SP) of Rawalpindi.

He told the police to obtain surety bonds from miscreants as well as from those having any kind of suspicious or dubious record that they would not create law and order situation.

The CPO told the police that if a fourth scheduler did not register their attendance on daily basis at cop shoppe, he should be prosecuted under NAP.

He ordered the police to launch a search operation in private hostels and hotels and if they found a person residing illegally, he should be arrested immediately, besides registering a case against the hotel or hostel’s administration.

The CPO directed the police to launch an operation against suspects who were still on the lam in cases registered under NAP and on charges of creating sectarian and ethnic disturbance during the last 10 years.

[DAILYCALLER] President Donald Trump tweeted Tuesday that he did not “buy” Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s tears during her press conference denouncing Israel’s treatment of her request to enter the country.

“Sorry, I don’t buy Rep. Tlaib’s tears,” Trump said about the Monday afternoon press conference. “I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly, WORDS for far too long. Now tears?”

He continued, “She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite.”

"Make Romania Great Again".

That was the message emblazoned across a cap that US President Donald Trump gave his Romanian counterpart, Klaus Iohannis.

The slogan is a tweak of the ones used by Trump in his 2016 presidential campaign.

The gift was handed to Iohannis as he visited the White House on Tuesday.

Pictures released by Iohannis on Facebook showed him trying the cap on, as those at the meeting shared a laugh.

Trump and Iohannis discuss issues such as regional security, energy, law enforcement, and the visa-waiver programme.

A statement from the White House said both countries were opposed to Nord Stream 2, a new export gas pipeline running from Russia to Europe across the Baltic Sea.

"The United States and Romania recognise that energy security is national security," it said. "We underscore our opposition to Nord Stream 2 and other projects that make our Allies and partners dependent on energy from Russia.

"Natural gas resources in Romania have the potential to increase the prosperity of our nations and to enhance Europe’s energy security.

"The United States and Romania will consider how best to improve the energy investment climate in Romania in ways that benefit both countries.

"We further urge our industries to work closely together to support Romania’s civil nuclear energy goals."

It comes ahead of presidential elections in Romania on November 10, where Iohannis is running for a second term.

Armed attack on Libya's Ajilat district leaves one person killed
[Libya Observer] A security source in Ajilat said one young man was killed after an attack by an gang on Jadidah cop shoppe as well as a security department's outpost.

The source said the Ajilat security department managed Monday evening to contain the attack in Jadidah area after hours-long clash with the gang.

'The young man who was killed in the clash was from the outlaw gang. One person was injured from the cop shoppe." The source added.

It is not clear whether the attack was prompted by political motives to cast some confusion in support of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969.
's forces or just a button men attack, knowing that Ajilat and nearby areas are frequently seeing some military movements in support for Haftar.

Observers believe that those movements are just a show of power and a way for Haftar to prove his forces' military might in the far west of Libya so the morale of his fighters on frontlines can be boosted.

Julián Castro's new animal rights plan takes on a favorite Donald Trump Jr. hobby
[NBCNEWS] Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro on Monday released a comprehensive animal welfare plan that includes a series of ambitious policy proposals, including making animal abuse a federal crime and cracking down on trophy hunting.
I'm not sure any of this is within the purview of the federal govt, or why he thinks it is.
"Our plan to advance animal welfare is not only the right thing to do, but will improve people’s lives through responsible pet ownership and a more sustainable agricultural system," the former Housing secretary said in a statement unveiling unveiled what he called "The PAW Plan."
"This is my pet Elk"
Other top proposals in the plan include working to end euthanizing of cats and dogs and expanding protected U.S. lands to 30 percent by 2030, with a goal of 50 percent by 2050. He proposed creating a $40 million grant program to expand spaying, neutering and vaccinations for low-income pet owners, strengthening the Endangered Species Act, banning use of federal land for fossil fuel exploration and ending the import of big-game trophies. Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
Jr., the president's eldest son, is an infamous big-game hunter.

"Protecting these majestic animals must first start with repealing the Trump administration’s NRA loopholes that allow trophy hunting and enforcing strict penalties on the domestic ivory trade," the plan reads.

Castro said in his plan that his hometown, San Antonio, went from a place that killed the most pets per capita in the United States to no-kill status in less than a decade. Castro criticizes President Donald Trump and his administration in his plan, saying their response to climate change and ongoing declines in biodiversity has been to dramatically weaken the U.S. Endangered Species Act.

Andrew Yang staffer to run primary challenge against Rep. Jerry Nadler
[NYPOST] House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler has attracted yet another primary challenger ‐ this one politically aligned with 2020 presidential hopeful Andrew Yang
...2020 Democratic presidential candidate. Unlike most other Dem 2020 candidates, he has actually done things besides politix in his adult life. He worked in startups and early-stage growth companies as a founder or executive from 2000 to 2009. After he founded Venture for America, the Obama administration selected him in 2012 as a Champion of Change and in 2015 as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship. His signature campaign policy is what he calls the Freedom Dividend, a form of Universal Basic Income for every American over 18. Yang believes UBI is a necessary response to the rapid development of automation that is leading to workforce challenges. The other two central elements of Yang's platform are Medicare for All and Human-Centered Capitalism....
Jonathan Herzog, a 25-year-old former Yang staffer, announced his intentions to primary Nadler, entering an increasingly crowded Democratic race for the 10th Congressional District seat.

"This was fully and solely my decision, but essentially the journey was I moved to Iowa to build [Yang’s] campaign operation and the campaign took off and the Yang Gang became a national movement. And the question just came up over and over again, well how do we get this agenda ... and the Freedom Dividend through Congress?" Herzog explained to The Post in an interview Tuesday.

Yang’s big idea is to give Americans over 18 $1,000 a month, a concept called Universal Basic Income, that he’s re-branded for his campaign, calling it a "Freedom Dividend." His aim is to offset job losses from higher levels of automation.

Video shows man wanted for NYPD water attacks attempt to run from arrest

[NYPOST] Disturbing cellphone video shows an ex-con wanted in a water-bucket attack on NYPD cops boldly challenging the detectives who tracked him down in The Bronx — then bolting when they try to place him under arrest.

The brazen display of contempt for the NYPD emerged Tuesday, one day after Police Commissioner James O’Neill fired Officer Daniel Pantaleo over the fatal arrest of Eric Garner in 2014.

The video shows Keith Ford, who’s on parole for an attempted robbery conviction, shouting angrily as three plainclothes members of the NYPD’s Bronx Warrant Squad try to put him in handcuffs, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the incident.

“What is this for?” Ford, 28, repeatedly demands near the start of the 2-minute clip.

When Ford — who’s 6 feet 5 and 255 pounds — shakes off one cop, a struggle ensues and the cops wind up facing off against Ford as he stands with his back to an iron fence.

After one detective draws a Taser, Ford pretends to give up and places his hands behind his back, only to turn and sprint away when the other two cops move in for the bust.

The detective fires the Taser, but Ford appears to yank the barb from his clothing as he leads the cops on a chase down the block and around a corner, with shouting onlookers encouraging him to escape.

The video ends with Ford being placed under arrest against a wall.

The head of the NYPD Detectives’ Endowment Association said the Thursday incident showed “how emboldened criminals have become, thanks to the rhetoric of our phony politicians.”

“It’s the clear example of how indecision from being constantly criticized and second-guessed all the time plays out on the street,” DEA President Michael Palladino said.

“It’s a miracle that these detectives were not injured.”

NYPD Sgt. Joseph Imperatrice, the founder of the non-profit Blue Lives Matter NYC, said the video also offered a vivid illustration of the new normal working conditions for city cops.

“This is gonna continue to happen. Everyone thinks they’re gonna be a reality TV star — they’re gonna film the incident, they’re gonna hope that the cops do their job,” he said.

Misrata elders condemn crime acts of Haftar's militias
[Libya Observer] Misrata Council of Wisemen and Elders has condemned the criminal acts committed by warlord Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. Guess you can't win them all...
and his militias, the most recent of which was the abduction and torture of 12 Libyans by a militia in Tarhouna known as the "Kaniyat".

The Council also denounced the silence of the international community, especially the United Nations

Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) towards such crimes.

"People of Tarhouna have to clarify their position on the militias’ assaults," the statement reads.

Sandoval apologizes for mock Trump assassination photo at political fundraiser
[WCIA] A series of pictures posted online after a Friday night political fundraising event for state Senator Martin Sandoval (D-reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
) show an event attendee pointing what appears to be a fake assault weapon at another person wearing a Mexican costume and a mask of President Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
Donors paid a minimum of $250 to attend Sandoval’s golf outing at the Klein Creek Golf Club in west suburban Winfield. A woman who attended the event posted the photos to her Facebook page on Saturday and tagged Sandoval in them. Sandoval is pictured separately posing with the man who held the fake weapon, but it remains unclear if the Senator knew about the incident when it occurred.

The mock liquidation pose drew quick, bipartisan condemnation from Governor J.B. Pritzker, the Illinois Democratic Party, and from the Illinois Republican Party alike.

"As our nation grapples with the epidemic of gun violence, purposely pointing a fake gun at anyone is insensitive and wrong," Pritzker said Saturday night. "I condemn actions like the ones displayed in the pictures because they lack the civility our politics demands."

"The tragedies in El Paso and Gilroy have demonstrated how hate-filled political rhetoric can fuel violence," Maura Possley, a spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Illinois, said. "These images are unacceptable and dangerous. The place to make our voices heard against Trump is at the ballot box."

Sandoval, a powerful state politician who chairs the Senate Transportation Committee and was a driving force behind the recent gas tax increase to fund the ’Rebuild Illinois’ capital plan, issued an apology in an emailed statement.

"The incident that took place is unacceptable," he said. "I don’t condone violence toward the President or anyone else. I apologize that something like this happened at my event."

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider called on Sandoval to fire the person in the photo if they were a staffer or volunteer.

"The apology from Sen. Sandoval for the detestable pictures from his event depicting an liquidation of President Trump is too little, too late," Schneider said via a front man. "Dangerous imagery like this will be condemned and seen as inappropriate by people of sound mind; however, a mentally unstable individual who wants to harm President Trump might find them as an inspiration. It’s inexcusable for an elected official to allow the promotion of violence in any way. If the individual pictured is a staffer or volunteer, they should be terminated immediately."

Kellyanne Conway, a top aide to President Trump, said on Twitter Sunday night that other Democrats should be asked if they support or disavow the images.

Why Trump’s Approval Ratings Are Up Among Minorities
I’ve been wondering about the unanimous screeching that President Trump — and all Republicans, by definition — is racist.
[Spectator] A mounting number of voter polls show that, despite shrill denunciations of the president by the Democrats for his alleged racism, Trump is enjoying a dramatic increase in his approval ratings among minorities. This isn’t, as some liberal news outlets and pundits have suggested, wishful thinking based on outlier polls. The trend began showing up in surveys early this year and appears to be gaining momentum. Some polls now show his approval numbers at 25 percent among African American voters and 50 percent among Hispanic voters. If those figures hold for the next 15 months, they will render Trump unbeatable in November of 2020.

If this claim seems over the top, it should be remembered that Trump beat Hillary Clinton in 2016 despite garnering only about 8 percent of the black vote and 29 percent of the Hispanic vote. Put another way, Clinton lost the election despite winning nearly 90 percent of the African American vote and two-thirds of the Hispanic vote. In other words, they simply can’t beat the president if he holds them to significantly lower percentages of these key voting blocs. The Democrats and their media enablers understand this, of course, which is why they have worked so diligently to discredit polls that confirm the president’s gains among minority voters.

This is 90% of 13% of the vote (assuming AA voting pop tracks close US population numbers). Not exactly a recipe for a landslide election. So maybe Hillary lost because she is evil and can't do arithmetic.

#5  according to sources that seem reliable, the turnout among black voters was higher than among others in 2016. IF these were the same, the black community supplied a margin to Clinton of 80% of its 13% of the vote, which is more than 10% of all the voters. Since she got less than 52% of the total vote sh lost by at least 42 to 46.7 among other voters. Changing her proportion of the black vote to 75% would in itself lower her margin by 3.9% and in itself leave her behind. With a parallel effect among othr minorities the Democrats will be heavily behind if they do not find ways to appeal to those deplorables who voted for Trump in 2016

Iraq
Iran-backed militia weapons depot in Saladin rocked by explosions
[Rudaw] A weapons depot belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) at al-Balad military base in Saladin province was rocked by explosions on Tuesday night, leaving the base engulfed in flames. The explosion is one of a series to have hit bases belonging to Iran-backed militias in recent weeks.

The depot belongs to Iranian-backed PMF militia Kataib Hezbollah, former spokesperson for the group Karim Noori told Rudaw on Tuesday.

"The reason of the fire and the earth-shattering kabooms inside the weapons depot near al-Balad air base is still unknown," Noori said.
"It's Allan's Will™!"
Investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, he added.

Improper storage of weapons has been ruled out as a potential reason for the earth-shattering kaboom, Saladin MP Muhammed Baldawi told Rudaw. He suggested that al-Balad had instead been targeted in an attack.

"Both the Iraqi forces and the PMF are present at the base. There are also US F-16 jet trainers," Baldawi told Rudaw on Tuesday.

"There are no casualties reported, but PMF weapons have been completely destroyed," he added.

Iraqi Defense Minister and Iraqi Army chief of staff Najih al-Shimari arrived to al-Balad base on Tuesday night to investigate, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

Bases belonging to the PMF, otherwise known as Hashd al-Shaabi, have faced a series of mysterious attacks in recent weeks.

On August 13, a massive blast engulfed an arms depot at the al-Saqr military base belonging to a PMF militia in the Dora neighborhood of Baghdad. One person was killed and 13 were maimed in the earth-shattering kaboom.

While hot weather and negligent storage were blamed for the incident, some have called for investigations into the earth-shattering kaboom, claiming that foreign hands may have been behind the attacks.

In July, an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
blamed on an ISIS drone hit a PMF base in Amerli, Diyala province, injuring two PMF fighters. Two Iranian advisors working with the PMF were maimed in the strike.

Speculation on who is behind the attacks is swirling. Israel, which fears Iran

Giuseppe Conte Resigns, Blames Salvini For Trying to Save Italy
[TheGuardian] Italian PM resigns with attack on 'opportunist' Salvini

Giuseppe Conte tells Italian Senate that far-right leader has triggered political crisis to serve his own interests.

Giuseppe Conte has resigned as Italy's prime minister after blasting Matteo Salvini, the leader of the far-right League, as an "opportunist" for triggering a government crisis that could have "serious consequences" for Italy.
It's probably all about the immigrants, the islamophilia, the closing of gates to the hordes of murderous vermin.
Conte said he would formally resign his mandate to the president, Sergio Mattarella, after the close of the debate in the Senate on Tuesday.

The outgoing prime minister said that Salvini, deputy prime minister and interior minister, had betrayed Italian citizens after pulling the plug on the party's tempestuous alliance with the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) earlier this month.

Salvini is eager to exploit the League's growing popularity by bringing about snap elections.

"He is only looking after his own interests and those of his party," said Conte. "Calling on voters every year is irresponsible," Conte said, adding that the prospect of Salvini as Italy's next prime minister was "worrying".

By resigning, Conte has avoided a no-confidence vote sought by the League.

The power to dissolve parliament and call new elections rests with Mattarella, who could also seek the formation of a new parliamentary majority or install a technical government. The timing of Salvini's maneuver is sensitive as Italy must present its draft budget for 2020 by the end of September.

Conte said Salvini's choices in recent weeks revealed "poor institutional sensitivity" and "a serious lack of constitutional culture". He also criticised the minister's use of religious symbols in his constant campaigning across Italy, describing it is as "offensive to the faithful"
especially to other faiths.
Salvini kissed a rosary
the use of the reprehensible religious symbols
and retaliated in his response to Conte in the Senate, saying "I'll ask the Madonna for protection for as long as I live".

"I'm the only humble witness," he added. "My country matters more to me than the comfy seats [of power]".

He said that Italy's most pressing problem is its low birth rate, adding that his potential government would be one that supports a €50bn budget for 2020 that focused "on lowering taxes, the right to life...growth, investment."

As prime minister, he would "focus on Italians, not on Merkel or Macron ... I am proud, free and nationalist. Italy will be about children, who have a mum and a dad."
Italy looks to be in for a spin. Fingers crossed.

Land Launch Tomahawk Test...
The Pentagon says it has successfully tested a new ground-launched cruise missile just weeks after the U.S. severed the decades-old Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty, known as the INF. The treaty had prevented such tests.

The Defense Department announced Monday that the flight test of the "conventionally configured ground-launched cruise missile" was conducted at San Nicolas Island, California, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Federal Judge Orders FBI to Search for More Christopher Steele Docs
[PJMEDIA] After years of legal wrangling, a federal judge has given the FBI 60 days to cough up records of their communications with former British spy Remington Christopher Steele after he was terminated as a confidential human source.

The conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch first sought FBI documents on Steele in May of 2017 through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. The court initially sided with the FBI but reopened the case in 2018 when evidence emerged that Steele was an FBI informant. Judicial Watch again asked the FBI to search for their Steele records, but the FBI continued to stonewall, declining to confirm or deny that they even existed.

Now, U.S. District Court Judge Christopher Cooper has put an end to the cat-and-mouse game.

"Those records might either bolster or weaken Steele’s credibility as a source," Judge Cooper said in his ruling. "That information, in turn, could provide a basis on which to evaluate the FBI’s performance of its law-enforcement duties, including its judgment in selecting and relying on confidential sources, especially in connection with such a politically sensitive subject."

Pentagon conducts 1st test of previously banned missile
[AlAhram] The U.S. military has conducted a flight test of a type of missile banned for more than 30 years by a treaty that both the United States and Russia abandoned this month, the Pentagon said.
"abandoned" since Russia has been cheating since the Soviet days. It's a tradition.
The test off the coast of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, on Sunday marked the resumption of an arms competition that some analysts worry could increase U.S.-Russian tensions. The Trump administration has said it remains interested in useful arms control but questions Moscow's willingness to adhere to its treaty commitments.

The Pentagon said it tested a modified ground-launched version of a Navy Tomahawk cruise missile, which was launched from San Nicolas Island and accurately struck its target after flying more than 500 kilometers (310 miles). The missile was armed with a conventional, not nuclear, warhead.

Defense officials had said last March that this missile likely would have a range of about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) and that it might be ready for deployment within 18 months.

The missile would have violated the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty of 1987, which banned all types of missiles with ranges between 500 kilometers (310 miles) and 5,500 kilometers (3,410 miles). The U.S. and Russia withdrew from the treaty on Aug. 2, prompted by what the administration said was Russia's unwillingness to stop violating the treaty's terms. Russia accused the U.S. of violating the agreement.

The newly tested cruise missile recalls a nuclear-armed U.S. weapon that was deployed in several Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
countries in the 1980s, along with Pershing 2 ground-based ballistic missiles, in response to a buildup of Soviet SS-20 missiles targeting Western Europe. With the signing of the treaty, those missiles were withdrawn and destroyed.

In addition to the land-variant of the Tomahawk cruise missile, the Pentagon has said it also intends to begin testing, probably before the end of this year, an INF-range ballistic missile with a range of roughly 3,000 kilometers (1864 miles) to 4,000 kilometers (2485 miles). Both missiles are to be non-nuclear.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper said this month that he hopes the Pentagon can develop and deploy INF-range missiles ``sooner rather than later,'' but no specific timeline has been announced.

He disputed the notion that abandoning the INF treaty will spark an arms race.

``I don't see an arms race happening here,'' he told news hounds on the day Washington and Moscow withdrew from the treaty.

``Russia has been racing, if anybody, to develop these systems in violation of the treaty, not us.''

Zakir Naik apologises to Malaysians for racial remarks
[DAWN] Controversial Indian Islamic preacher Zakir Naik
Indian Islamic preacher, founder and president of the Islamic Research Foundation, which doesn't rely very heavily on the scientific method. He is also the founder of the oxymoronic Peace TV channel through which he reaches 200 million viewers. He has been called an authority on comparative religion and the most influential Salafi ideologue in India, though usually by himself. Before becoming a public speaker, he trained as a physician. His preaching is currently banned in India, Bangladesh, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Antarctica. He is currently holed up in Malaysia, where he's not banned...
apologised on Tuesday for making racially sensitive remarks in Malaysia, a day after he was questioned by police for hours over the comments.

Naik, who faces charges of money laundering and hate speech in India, has come under fire for comments that pitted Malaysia's ethnic and religious minorities against the predominantly Moslem Malay majority.

Malaysian police grilled Naik for 10 hours on Monday about a speech earlier this month in which he said Hindus in Malaysia had "100 times more rights" than the Moslem minority in India, and that Malaysian Chinese were guests of the country.

Race and religion are sensitive issues in Malaysia, where Moslems make up about 60 percent of its 32 million people. The rest are mostly ethnic Chinese and Indians, most of whom are Hindus.

Naik, who has lived in Malaysia for about three years, apologised for his remarks but insisted that he was not a racist. He said his detractors had taken his comments out of context and added "strange fabrications to them".

"It was never my intention to upset any individual or community," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

"It is against the basic tenets of Islam, and I would like to convey my heartfelt apologies for this misunderstanding," Naik said.

Naik has permanent residency in Malaysia. Several ministers called for his expulsion after his controversial remarks and at least seven states have barred him from speaking in public.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Sunday Naik was free to preach about Islam but should not speak about Malaysia's racial politics, state media reported.

Turkish regime and its mercenaries continue repressive acts against locals in Afrin, Aleppo countryside
[SANA.SY] In the framework of the task assigned to them, mercenaries of the Ottoman Turkish regime of the terrorist organizations which are positioned in Afrin area along with the forces of the Ottoman Turkish occupation, continue their terrorist and repressive practices which are represented in the acts of killing and kidnapping against the locals in the areas which have been occupied by the forces of the Ottoman Turkish regime since March last year.

Local and media sources said that a civilian from the locals of Afrin was tortured to death at one of the cells in the prisons of the so-called "Al-Hamzat Division- the Free Army" terrorist organization which is one of the criminal tools of the Ottoman Turkish regime in Afrin City in Aleppo northwestern countryside in parallel with kidnapping another person in the surroundings of the city by the so-call "al-Amshat Faction- the Free Army" and demanding a ransom of USD 3 thousand from his family.

Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
in Azaz City in Aleppo northern countryside which is controlled by the so-called "Free Army", a person was found killed by unknown button men in a recurring incident against the locals in the areas which are the strongholds of terrorist groups that are directly linked to the Ottoman Turkish regime.

Since it was occupied on March 18th last year, Afrin City and its countryside have been witnessing continued attempts by the regime of Erdogan to impose its schemes depending on certain practices which affected different walks of life such as replacing the names of certain areas and the main squares with Ottoman Turkish names in an attempt to obliterate their real identity, in addition to imposing the Ottoman Turkish language as a main subject at the schools and hoisting the Ottoman Turkish flag on them.

Tens of media reports, in addition to local sources from the area have affirmed that the forces of the Ottoman Turkish occupation in cooperation with their mercenaries of faceless myrmidons have forced the residents to make new identity cards to use them at the "official" directorates in the city in a way which recalls what has been done by the Zionist occupation in the Golan and Paleostine.

The regime of Erdogan has also worked on obliterating the cultural and historical identity of the area through destroying all the archeological monuments in it which are icons that refer to the Arabism of the area.

The Ottoman Turkish forces and warplanes have destroyed many archeological sites in Afrin city such as Ain Zara temple and the archeological sites of al-Nabi Houri and Tal Jandares, in addition to destroying the archeological site of Barad to the south of Afrin City which is registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

[FOXNEWS] A New York man accused of raping a 74-year-old woman was thrown out of court Monday after he picked up the table at which his defense team was sitting and launched it in the direction of prosecutors, capping a series of outbursts that disrupted the jury selection proceedings.

Shamik King, 30, was removed from the Syracuse courtroom at around 11:30 a.m. after he hurled a wooden table at the prosecution team's table, sending splinters flying, according to The Post-Standard.

King, who's accused of raping an elderly woman on Aug. 19, 2018 at the Skyline Apartments, is charged with rape, burglary and assault and was in court as part of jury selection in the case.

Egypt police kill 11 terrorists in North Sinai raid
[AlAhram] Egyptian police potted 11 gunnies in North Sinai's El-Arish during a raid on their hideout, a statement by the interior ministry said on Tuesday.

The bad boyz were potted after shooting at police as they attempted to apprehend them at their hideout in a farm in El-Arish's El-Obour area.

Police seized a number of weapons, including five rifles, a FN firearm, a pistol, two bombs, and a suicide belt.

Egypt has been battling Islamist gunnies in North Sinai for several years. Terrorist attacks have mostly targeted security forces, particularly at military and police checkpoints.

Egypt launched Operation Sinai 2018 in February to target "terrorist and criminal elements and organizations" in northern and central Sinai, as well as parts of the Nile Delta and the Western Desert, the army said at the start of the operation.

Anti-Assad fighters withdraw from key area of northwest Syria: Monitor
“Curley-toed slippers, don’t fail me now!”
[AlAhram] Jihadists and allied rebels withdrew from a key area of northwestern Syria Tuesday as Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
's forces pressed an offensive against the jihadist-run Idlib region, a war monitor said.

The fighters pulled back from the town of Khan Sheikun and the countryside to its south overnight and in the early hours of Tuesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The withdrawal means an important Ottoman Turkish observation point in the nearby town of Morek is effectively surrounded by government forces, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

On Monday, a Ottoman Turkish military convoy crossed the border into the Idlib region, sparking condemnation from Damascus as Ankara alleged air strikes had targeted its troops.

The convoy halted just north of Khan Sheikhun on Monday afternoon and remained there on Tuesday, after government forces took control of a section of the highway into the town.

Pro-government newspaper al-Watan said Monday morning's strike targeted a rebel vehicle scouting the road in front of the Ottoman Turkish convoy.

"The Syrian army in its own way sent a clear message to the Ottoman Turkish regime by forcing convoys sent by Ankara to help the bandidos forces of Evil in Khan Sheikhun to come to a halt," it said.

It was a "clear warning against any Ottoman Turkish attempt to resuscitate the terrorists," the paper said, adding that the strike had "Russian support".

After eight years of civil war, the Idlib region on the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
is the last major stronghold of opposition to President Bashir al-Assad's regime.

Since January, it has been administered by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
alliance, which is led by jihadists from Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate.

The war in Syria has killed more than 370,000 people since the rebels first took arms following the brutal repression of anti-government protests in 2011.

Rival interventions by outside powers have turned it into a complex conflict with multiple battle fronts that has driven millions of civilians from their homes.
Dawn adds:
Syria, however, said the Ottoman Turkish convoy was carrying ammunition to rebels who have lost ground this month amid a government offensive to retake their last stronghold in the country.

The incident ratcheted up tensions in the region, a current ground zero in Syria’s long-running civil war in which Ottoman Turkish, Russian, US and Iranian interests are fighting.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry said the convoy of armoured vehicles was delivering weapons to Khan Sheikhoun, a major rebel-held town that lies on the front line of fighting along the southern edge of the Idlib enclave. The town is a stronghold of Al Qaeda-linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else, the most powerful bully boy group in the area.

It was not immediately clear whether the air strikes were carried out by Syrian or Russian warplanes. The convoy consisted of several armoured vehicles and flatbed trucks carrying tanks.

The Ottoman Turkish move into Idlib appears to be a message by Ankara that it won’t allow Syrian forces to capture Khan Sheikhoun. Syrian government forces reached its outskirts earlier on Monday. The town’s fall would also cut the highway linking Idlib to northern parts of Hama province, home to one of Turkey’s 12 observation posts on the edges of Idlib province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, and Idlib-based opposition activist Mazen al-Shami, reported that Syrian troops reached the M5 highway north of Khan Sheikhoun, making it more difficult for rebels and civilians to move between Idlib and rebels in northern parts of Hama province.

Under a deal reached last year between Russia and Turkey, the highway was supposed to be open by the end of 2018 but it never happened. Now, Syrian troops appear to be trying to open it by force.

Al Nusra says still has fighters in Khan Sheikhoun

[Ynet] A Syrian jihadist group said on Tuesday rebel fighters had redeployed in the southern part of the town of Khan Sheikhoun and still controlled towns in adjoining area of Hama province, after a war monitor said insurgents had withdrawn from the area.

"After ferocious bombardment by the criminal enemy forces ... the mujahideen last night repositioned in the south of Khan Sheikhoun town with the southern part still under the control of the mujahideen," the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group said in a statement distributed on its Telegram channel.

Mediterranean trafficking: Italiy confiscates Spanish ship, Spanish navy hurries to rescue, Cyprus gets more Syrians

Italian prosecutor orders to seize Open Arms boat, migrants to disembark

[AlAhram] An Italian prosecutor ordered to seize the Open Arms ship that has been stranded at sea by the Italian island of Lampedusa for the past 19 days with almost 100 migrants colonists aboard, the prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.

The migrants colonists are expected to be removed from the boat tonight, the prosecutor's office said, but details were yet to be formalized.

The Spanish charity boat has repeatedly asked to bring the migrants colonists ashore, but hasn't been able to do so because of an Italian ban on private rescue ships.

Spain sending navy ship to bring Open Arms migrants to Spain

[AlAhram] The Spanish government said on Tuesday it was sending a navy ship to the Italian island of Lampedusa to escort the Open Arms rescue ship to Spain, in a bid to bring an end to an ordeal that has seen migrants stranded in the Mediterranean for 19 days.

"The Audaz will depart this afternoon at 5 p.m. and will sail for three days to Lampedusa, where it will take charge of the people hosted by the Open Arms and escort the boat ... to the port of Palma in Mallorca," the Socialist government said in a statement.

The Open Arms ship, run by a Spanish charity of the same name, was still unaware of the plan. Earlier on Tuesday the charity described the situation onboard as "out of control," and said that at least ten people had jumped overboard in a "desperate" attempt to swim to Lampedusa.

Cyprus Receives 33 Migrants, Mostly Syrian

[AnNahar] Cyprus has received 33 mainly Syrian migrants who arrived by boat at the southern port of Larnaca after being escorted to shore, authorities said on Tuesday.

Police on the Mediterranean island said they had received information that a boat from the Middle East was heading toward the island.

Coastguards on a patrol boat spotted a crowded eight-meter vessel within Cypriot waters.

The 33 migrants, all Syrian except for one Lebanese national, were being processed by police on Tuesday before being transferred to a reception center outside the capital Nicosia.

Police said the migrants, including 10 children and six woman, all appeared to be in good health.

Cyprus has warned Brussels it faces increased pressure from irregular migration, with the highest rate of refugee arrivals of any EU country relative to its population.

The popular holiday island lies just 100 kilometers (62 miles) from Lebanon and 80 kilometers from Turkey, both transit countries for people fleeing war-torn Syria.

Earlier this month Cyprus asked fellow EU member states to take in 5,000 of the migrants it hosts, to alleviate the "disproportionate pressures and severe challenges" it faces.

Syrian nationals account for over 26 per cent of irregular migrants to Cyprus from 2016 onwards.

According to government data, almost 15,000 applications for asylum in Cyprus are waiting to be processed.

Southeast Asia
Protesters burn parliament building in Indonesian town
[DAWN] MANOKWARI: Thousands of people in Indonesia’s West Papua province set fire to a local parliament building on Monday in a protest sparked by accusations that security forces had arrested and insulted students from neighbouring Papua province, officials said.

The angry mob torched the building and set fire to cars and tires on several blocked roads leading to a seaport, shopping centres and offices in Manokwari, the capital of West Papua province, Vice Gov. Mohammad Lakotani said.

"The city’s economy has been paralysed by the demonstrators," Lakotani said. "Negotiations between protesters and the authorities are currently underway to end the riots." Television footage showed orange flames and gray smoke billowing from the burning parliament building.

An insurgency has simmered in Papua since the early 1960s, when Indonesia annexed the region, a former Dutch colony. In recent years, some Papua students, including some who study in other provinces, have become vocal in calling for self-determination for the province. Residents of West Papua are ethnically similar to those in Papua.

Protesters also destroyed parts of an airport in Sorong, another city in West Papua province, local police chief Mario Christy Siregar said.

He said rioters broke windows and burned some belongings, but security forces were able to secure the facility and the incident did not disturb airport activities.

Lakotani said the demonstration in Manokwari was triggered by allegations that police had arrested and insulted dozens of Papuan students in their dormitories in the East Java city of Surabaya a day earlier.

Police stormed the dormitories in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, on Sunday after Papuan students staying there refused to be questioned over allegations that they had intentionally damaged the national red-and-white flag in the dormitory’s yard.

East Java police front man Frans Barung Mangera said 43 students were detained but released hours later after no evidence was found that they had damaged the flag.

Amateur video showing police, backed by soldiers, calling the Papuan students "monkeys" and "dogs" circulated widely on the internet, sparking anger in Papua and West Papua.

Sudan’s Bashir ‘got $90m from Saudi royals’, official tells court
[DAWN] Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
received $90 million in cash from Saudi royals, an investigator told a court at the opening on Monday of the deposed Sudanese strongman’s corruption trial.

The former president, who was forced from power by months of protests in April after 30 years in power, sat in a metal cage wearing a traditional white gown.

His relatives chanted "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) as proceedings got under way in the Khartoum court where he arrived in a huge military convoy.

Bashir faces a raft of charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide from the International Criminal Court over his role in the Darfur war but Monday’s trial is over graft allegations.

Large amounts of cash were found at this residence after he was toppled and the investigator said the case brought forward to the court probed some of that money.

"The accused told us that the money was part of a sum of $25 million sent to him by Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. to be used outside of the state budget," investigator Ahmed Ali said.

According to him Bashir had said he also received two previous payments of $35 million and $30 million from Late King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands Abdullah
... Now a dead guy...
, who died in 2015.

"This money was not part of the state budget and I was the one who authorised its spending," the investigator quoted Bashir as saying.

Bashir had said the Saudi money was exchanged and spent and that he could not remember how nor did he have documents providing further details, he added.

Bashir looked calm during the nearly three-hour session, which a photographer and correspondent attended. The next hearing was scheduled for August 24.

Turkish missile strike allegedly targets PKK vehicle in Duhok village
[Rudaw] A Ottoman Turkish Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
hit what was alleged to be a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) vehicle near a Duhok village on Tuesday, local eyewitness told Rudaw, causing panic among the village’s few and fear-ridden remaining residents.

Bayar Tahir, a resident of the village of Babire in Duhok's Mangeshki sub-district, was at a village spring with other locals when they heard Ottoman Turkish jets flying overhead at 10:30am.

"We were afraid [the jets would hit us] and left the spring to go back to the village," Tahir told Rudaw.

On their return to Babire, Tahir said he saw two missiles being fired from the Ottoman Turkish jet, at least one of which hit a PKK vehicle.

He also claimed to have witnessed three PKK guerillas being killed by the strike.

Orchards and groves belonging to locals were left destroyed, he added.

Mohammed Ismael, another resident of Babire, also told Rudaw that the Ottoman Turkish airstrike targeted a PKK vehicle in the same location.

"This has caused much fear among the locals," he said.

Mushtaq Ismat, director of the Mangeshk sub-district, confirmed the incident to Rudaw.

Despite there being no reported civilian casualties, the airstrike has stoked "fear in the area," "especially among those who were close to where the missile struck," Ismat said.

Babire has already been close to entirely evacuated by the village's original 40-50 families in the face of increased PKK-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
hostility, Tahir said, while its remaining villagers - 5 families' worth - return only in the summer months.

"Residents are tired. They want to pack up and leave the village," he explained.

Babire is left particularly vulnerable to casualties because of its remote location. In the event of a local being injured by airstrikes, the nearest emergency hospital is an hour away, Tahir added.

Both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and federal government in Baghdad have repeatedly called on Ankara to cease its offensives, while also calling on the PKK to stop endangering civilians and leave Kurdistan Region territory.
