US Lawmakers (Mostly Van Hollen) Try To Meddle In Subcontinent.
[Tribune.com.pk] In a major blow to the Indian government,
Allan help us now !
the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on Saturday in break with precedent added an appeal to end the humanitarian crisis in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in its report ahead of the annual Foreign Appropriations Act for 2020.

The move could become the first step towards legislative action by American lawmakers against India, The Hindu reported.

The amendment was proposed by Senator Chris Van Hollen (D, MD), who visited Delhi this week as part of a congressional delegation that discussed the Kashmir situation as well as India-US bilateral relations, trade ties and defence purchases with key officials.

Senator Van Hollen was denied permission by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to visit the occupied valley

#1  Of course they're meddling. It's what they do. I lf they didn't meddle, they'd feel bad inside and just know something was wrong.

The Paris Attacker's Was... A Different Kind Of Islam, Say Prosecutors.
[CNN] The Paris police attacker followed a 'radical vision of Islam,' the anti-terrorism prosecutor says

The perpetrator of a knife attack that left four people dead at a Paris police headquarters had recently adhered to a "radical vision of Islam," according to witnesses, anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-Francois Ricard said Saturday.
Three policemen and a female police administrative worker were killed Thursday by a colleague who was later shot dead by a 24-year-old police intern inside the building near Notre Dame Cathedral, the prosecutor said.

The attacker, identified by police only as Mickaël H., had converted "about 10 years ago" to Islam and recently had kept to a more "radical vision," Ricard said during a news conference.

The attacker had contacts with people suspected of belonging to the ultraconservative Salafist movement of Islam, the prosecutor said.
I didn't think he was a Sufi monk doing the dervish with a knife.
The attacker had expressed his support for the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attacks, Ricard said, and "certain acts committed in the name of this religion," as well as a desire to "cease certain forms of contact with women" and his adoption of traditional Muslim clothing "in the last few months."
Which is why I put it in ISIS, Occam's electric trimmer. Elementary really...
Wife remains in custody

The attacker and his wife exchanged 33 text messages over 29 minutes the morning preceding the attack, and their content was "exclusively religious," the prosecutor said.

The last exchange ended with "Allahu akbar," which means "God is greater" in Arabic, and "follow the vision of our prophet Mohammed and meditate over the Quran."

These text messages were sent 30 minutes before the attacker visited a local store and bought two knives that would be used in the attack.

Trump To Trim NSC Staff : Enough Whistling !
[Time] Trump Orders Substantial Cut to National Security Council Staff After Whistle-Blower Complaint

President Donald Trump has ordered a substantial reduction in the staff of the National Security Council, according to five people familiar with the plans, as the White House confronts an impeachment inquiry touched off by a whistle-blower complaint related to the agency's work.

Some of the people described the staff cuts as part of a White House effort to make its foreign policy arm leaner under new National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien.

The request to limit the size of the NSC staff was conveyed to senior agency officials by acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and O'Brien this week. The whistle-blower complaint, focused on Trump's conduct in a July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, has been followed by damaging reports on the president's private conversations with other world leaders.

The New York Times has reported that the whistle-blower was a CIA officer who was at one point detailed to the White House. The complaint has become the driving motivation behind House Democrats' impeachment effort, which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi began last week.

Two of the people familiar with the decision to shrink the NSC insisted it was largely rooted in both the transition to O'Brien's leadership as well as Trump's desire to increase efficiency at the agency, which grew under former President Barack Obama. About 310 people currently work at the NSC.
We can safely say at least half are absolutely unnecessary then ?

Schiff's Own Ties to Ukraine Raise Questions
h/t Instapundit
...Schiff's ties to a wealthy Russian-American businessman doing business in Ukraine have recently come to light. Igor Pasternak is CEO of Worldwide Aeros Corp., a company that makes blimps for the military and commercial sectors. The company also makes a modified version of the M4 and M16 rifles that are manufactured in Ukraine. His connection to Pasternak, who is doing business with the Ukrainian government, could be construed as being a conflict of interest in his committee's investigation.

Wimauma Woman Found With 24 Pipe Bombs, Instructions, Manifestos
That's a man, baby!
[Patch via Weasel Zippers] WIMAUMA, FL ‐ A 27-year-old Wimauma woman was arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office after the bomb squad reportedly discovered 24 pipe bombs in her home along with bomb-making materials, instructions on making bombs and anarchist manifestos. The sheriff's office said the bombs had the potential to cause catastrophic damage and loss of life.

Michelle Louise Kolts was arrested just after midnight Friday at the home she shares with her parents in the 5000 block of Jagged Cloud Drive in the Sereno subdivision. The sheriff's office launched its investigation into Kolts Thursday after her parents alerted the sheriff's office to her activities.

"I can only imagine how hard it is to call in about any family member," Sheriff Chad Chronister said during a press conference Friday.

Chronister said Kolts' parents said the woman tested on the lower end of the autism spectrum. For unknown reasons, she became obsessed with mass shootings like the Columbine massacre.

She first caught the attention of the sheriff's office in August 2018 when an online printing company contacted the sheriff's office to report Kolts was ordering a substantial number of anarchy manuals and manifestos.

"They found it alarming and contacted us," Chronister said. The sheriff's office investigated but found nothing illegal at that time.

This week, her parents contacted the sheriff's office after discovering bomb-making materials, knives and other weapons, bomb-making instructions, DVDs and anarchist manifestos in her bedroom.

Inside her home police found a total of 24 pipe bombs, smokeless pistol powder, fuse material, 23 different knives, two hatchets, two BB/pellet-type rifles, six BB/pellet-type handguns, nunchucks and dozens of books and DVDs about murder, mass killing, domestic terrorism and bombmaking.

"What is even more frightening is that each of the pipe bombs contained nails, metallic pellets or a combination of both, and it would have taken less than 60 seconds per device to add the powder and fuse material she already possessed to detonate each device," Chronister said.

He said the bombs had the potential to kill hundreds and possibly thousands of people.

Kolts was picked up at her job, Chadwell Supply, a building maintenance and repair company. When questioned, she admitted making the bombs and said she intended to use them to harm others although Chronister said she didn't specify how she intended to use them and investigators found no list of targets.

Maybe she didn't have any well drawn diagrams and target photos crossed out with the words 'You're Dead !' written on each, but it's no mystery how a bomb works.

You simply have to read this stupid bastard. He goes from Donald Trump, Modi and Duterte winning on trollspeak to the christchurch foxtrot uncle and his televised spree. He even includes a critique on the first amendment itself, indicating there may be a need to review it !

The underlying premise is that from words on a blog or post, people escalate to actual violence. Hence it is necessary to curb the initial freedom to speak or write, and the violent stage should never arrive, voila !

Also the Media: "Big brother government, I demand censorship of the people that say things I don't like."

It's a cross between a church, a group blog and group therapy, with a large jolt of Democratic Party lobbying & advocacy.

And all of it focused on driving higher subscription revenues.

Fake Indian Fires National Organizing Director Over "Inappropriate Behavior"
I.e., sexual harassment; the only question left is 'did he hit on guys or gals?'
[Zero Hedge] - The Elizabeth Warren campaign has fired its national organizing director, Rich McDaniel, over allegations of "inappropriate behavior," according to Politico.

"Over the past two weeks, senior campaign leadership received multiple complaints regarding inappropriate behavior by Rich McDaniel," said Warren spokesperson Kristen Orthman.

"Over the same time period, the campaign retained outside counsel to conduct an investigation. Based on the results of the investigation, the campaign determined that his reported conduct was inconsistent with its values and that he could not be a part of the campaign moving forward."

Carjacking career of Reece Ramsey-Johnson ends abruptly
[Metro] A carjacker died after he accidentally blasted himself in the chest while trying to smash a window with the butt of his shotgun, an inquest has heard. Officers investigating the death of Reece Ramsey-Johnson said they were satisfied there was ’no third party involvement’ as they closed the probe into his killing.

Witnesses who saw the 22-year-old dying from gunshot wounds in the street outside a Lloyds bank in Sydenham on Sunday, September 8, said his own gun may have gone off when he used to to hit a car window. Opening the inquest at Southwark Coroner’s Court on Thursday September 26, Dr Andrew Harris confirmed the police investigation had now ended. He said: ’The investigating officer is satisfied there is no third party involvement.

Jesús María's head found in toy box
[Metro] A woman who gave her neighbour a box ’full of sex toys’ had allegedly stuffed her partner’s decapitated head inside. María del Carmen M. G., 61, had given her neighbour the box for safekeeping at her home in Castro Urdiales, in Cantabria, northern Spain.

After keeping hold of it for some time, the neighbour started to notice an awful smell coming from the package. In the early hours of Saturday morning, she finally decided to open it but was horrified by what she saw ‐ the severed head of her neighbour’s partner, Jesús María B. R. The woman suffered a panic attack at finding the decapitated human head, that was in an advanced state of decomposition, and immediately alerted authorities. Civil Guard officers set out searching for the body of 67-year-old Jesús María, who had been reported as missing in February, this year.

FLASHBACK, 2018: Joe Biden Brags At CFR Meeting About Withholding Aid To Ukraine To Force Firing Of Prosecutor
[Real Clear Politics] In this clip from a January 2018 appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations, former Vice President Joe Biden seems to brag about threatening to withhold military aid to Ukraine as a pressure tactic to force the firing of a prosecutor he did not like.

In September 2019, House Democrats launched a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump over a whistleblower's accusation that he threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine as a pressure tactic to force the Ukrainian government to investigate allegations that Joe Biden's son Hunter benefited financially from the firing of that same Ukrainian prosecutor.

Pres. Trump mocks Schiff with Pinocchio-themed video
[The Hill] President Trump on Friday mocked Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) by posting a video using clips from the Disney movie "Pinocchio" to imply that the House Intelligence chairman had been lying about a whistleblower who filed a complaint relating to Trump's dealings with Ukraine.

The clip uses footage of statements Schiff has made about the whistleblower interspersed with footage of Pinocchio's nose growing. It ends with the Blue Fairy, a character in the film, saying to Pinocchio "perhaps you haven't been telling the truth."

"But I have, every single word," replied the puppet, whose nose had grown significantly.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) warned Ukraine 's Zelensky to back off Biden's
Projection alert !
[The Hill] While choosing his words carefully, Murphy made clear ‐ by his own account ‐ that Ukraine currently enjoyed bipartisan support for its U.S. aid but that could be jeopardized if the new president acquiesced to requests by President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani to investigate past corruption allegations involving Americans, including former Vice President Joe Biden’s family.

Murphy boasted after the meeting that he told the new Ukrainian leader that U.S. aid was his country’s "most important asset" and it would be viewed as election meddling and "disastrous for long-term U.S.-Ukraine relations" to bend to the wishes of Trump and Giuliani.

"I told Zelensky that he should not insert himself or his government into American politics. I cautioned him that complying with the demands of the President's campaign representatives to investigate a political rival of the President would gravely damage the U.S.-Ukraine relationship. There are few things that Republicans and Democrats agree on in Washington these days, and support for Ukraine is one of them," Murphy told me today, confirming what he told Ukraine's leader.

The implied message did not require an interpreter for Zelensky to understand: Investigate the Ukraine dealings of Joe Biden and his son Hunter, and you jeopardize Democrats' support for future U.S. aid to Kiev.

The Murphy anecdote is a powerful reminder that, since at least 2016, Democrats repeatedly have exerted pressure on Ukraine, a key U.S. ally for buffering Russia, to meddle in U.S. politics and elections.
Emphasis added.

College basketball bribers slapped with more prison time for payouts to coaches
[Daily News] Two basketball bribers already convicted of paying the families of prized prospects were slapped with more prison time this week for secret payments to coaches.

Aspiring sports agent Christian Dawkins faces a year and a half for his bribery schemes. His partner-in-bribes, former Adidas consultant Merl Code, faces nine months total.
"This is my brother Merl, and my other brother Merl"
The men were convicted in separate trials that turned a spotlight on the sleazy world of college athletics, where brands, agents and hangers-on all compete for a slice of the fortune elite awaiting young basketball players upon turning pro.

In March, Dawkins and Code were sentenced to six months each for a plot to bribe players attending Adidas-sponsored colleges. In separate proceedings this week, Judge Edgardo Ramos sentenced Dawkins to a year and a day and Code to three months. The second scheme involved payments to coaches who steered players to select managers for handling money once the players turned pro.

"Christian Dawkins and Merl Code have now been sentenced to prison a second time for their roles in corrupting the world of college basketball. The sentences imposed this week should make crystal clear to other members of the basketball underground exposed during the various prosecutions brought by this office that bribery is still a crime, even if the recipient is a college basketball coach," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said.

'A problem in every national forest': tree thieves were behind Washington wildfire
[Guardian] Tree theft, which led to the deadly Maple Fire in Washington, may be costing the US Forest Service up to $100m each year

When two men discovered a rare and valuable 90ft-tall bigleaf maple tree in Washington State’s Olympic National Forest last year, they allegedly set about trying to steal it.

But there was a problem ‐ the tree was home to a bee hive. The men reportedly tried to use a wasp killer to get rid of it. When that didn’t work, one allegedly poured gasoline on it, and lit it on fire.

The result, according to a federal indictment unsealed this week, was an August wildfire that raged across the eastern half of the ancient forest, setting 3,300 acres of public land ablaze and costing $4.5m to fight.

Known as the Maple Fire, the smoke from the blaze also served to exacerbate an already bad summer for the region’s air quality. There were fires raging in Canada and Eastern Washington, and as smoke from these blazes struck Seattle, at some points the city reportedly had the worst air quality in the world.

Justin Andrew Wilke and Shawn Edward Williams have been charged with multiple federal felonies related to timber theft and could face years in prison and thousands of dollars in fines if convicted.

The bigleaf maple’s wood was covered in a distinct pattern, which if harvested is extremely popular for woodworking and potentially worth thousands of dollars. Before the fire, the pair had allegedly spent months illegally harvesting these high-value maple trees and selling the wood, which is used to make furniture and musical instruments.

Explosive detonated near West Bank IDF position, 2nd device neutralized
[IsraelTimes] An bomb exploded next to an Israel Defense Forces position near the town of Beit Ummar in the West Bank on Friday evening, the military said in a statement.

A second device was discovered at the army post and was neutralized by sappers.

There were no reports of any injuries in the primary explosion but there was damage to the military structure.

According to the statement, soldiers arrested a suspect on the scene.

During a search for further suspects close to Beit Ummar, festivities broke out in which one IDF soldier was lightly maimed. The soldier was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The IDF said troops used crowd dispersal methods. No further details were given and there were no reports of Paleostinian injuries.

Iraq
Iraqi Protests Highlight Importance Of Autonomous Kurdistan Region
[Jpost] During the recent protests in Baghdad, the difference between Erbil and Baghdad was clear.

As protesters gathered in Baghdad this week, an important forum took place in the autonomous Kurdistan region. Titled ’The Kurdistan Regional Government’s emerging strategy for stability in Iraq and the Region,’ it sought to emphasize the important role that the Kurdish region of northern Iraq plays in the country. Yet as guests gathered and speeches were given, including by the Prime Minister of the KRG, Masrour Barzani, the protests in Baghdad were harshly suppressed by the security forces.

The two scenes symbolize two parts of Iraq, one of which has gone through economic difficulties but emerged more stable and secure, and the other of which has large numbers of young people who wonder about the future.

It wasn’t this way two years ago. In the fall of 2017, the Kurdistan Region held a referendum on independence. Kurdish flags blanketed stadiums and a vote was held, overwhelmingly pro-independence. But Baghdad would have none of it and sent its tanks, soldiers and militias into Kirkuk to remove the Kurdish Peshmerga from the disputed city. It was a message to the Kurdish region: Don’t challenge Baghdad, we can sweep you aside.

Iraq has, since its foundation, been a contest between its center and periphery. When it was under the British and King Faisal, it was cobbled together with parts of Ottoman provinces. djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, which some thought might end up in the hands of a re-surging The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
under Ataturk, was tacked on to Iraq to make sure the country had more Sunnis. The Faisal regime eventually was tossed and a revolutionary Ba’athist Iraq emerged, full of the arrogance, social engineering and genocidal intentions that revolutionary nationalist regimes tend to have. Shi’ites were crushed and Saddam Hussein used gas against the Kurds.

Things changed after the 1991 Gulf war and after the 2003 US-led invasion. Now the center is dominated by Shi’ite political parties, many of them close to Iran. For the US, after 2009, this has been seen as a way to stabilize Iraq. Strengthen Baghdad, disregard the periphery.

However the KRG is rapidly become more central than Baghdad in some ways. Its cities like Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk, are cleaner and function better than many other places in Iraq. The region has been free from the krazed killer terrorism that affected other parts of the country. It has challenges, such as political impasses between its two leading Kurdish political parties and their dominant families. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
there is deeper investment and new infrastructure in the KRG.

The Kurdistan region which obtained its autonomy after years of hardship has nevertheless been treated shabbily by some western powers that should have admired its stability and success. Instead they seem generally to want to strengthen Baghdad and not hold Baghdad to the same standard as Erbil.

It Is A Terrible Idea To Call The Cops And Ask Them To Test Your Meth
[Smoking Gun] An Alabama woman concerned that her methamphetamine may have been tainted with another drug asked police to test her stash, a service request that resulted in her arrest for possession of a controlled substance.

Cops report that Jennifer Colyne Hall, 48, called police dispatch Wednesday seeking assistance.

When Limestone County Sheriff's Office deputies subsequently arrived at Hall’s residence in Toney, a Huntsville suburb, she presented them with a clear plastic bag she had removed from a baby wipes container.
Not a Toney Huntsville suburb. Punctuation counts, kids
"I want this dope tested," declared Hall, who added that she was concerned that her speed was somehow tainted.

The baggie proffered by Hall contained meth, cops report. As a result, Hall, seen above, was arrested on a felony narcotics possession charge and booked into the county jail. She is being held in lieu of $2500 bail.

And, yes, this has happened before and before.

Iraq protests leave 15 dead, 200 injured in southern province of Dhi Qar
Report as of Friday morning, before the next round of excitements reported in other articles.
[Rudaw] Fifteen people have been killed and at least 200 wounded in Dhi Qar alone during three days of nationwide protests, a member of the provincial council in Iraq’s south told Rudaw on Friday.

“The toll of victims of the protests in Dhi Qar province has reached 15 dead and 200 injured,” Hassan al-Asadi said.

The death toll nationwide stands at 31, Iraq’s Independent High Human Rights Commission told Rudaw late on Thursday. The toll in Dhi Qar alone therefore counts for almost half of all fatalities.

Security forces have tried to quell the protests with live ammunition and tear gas. Although curfews and road closures are in place, further violence is expected after Friday prayers.

Asadi said the Dhi Qar provincial council met with security chiefs and tribal leaders on Thursday to discuss plans to prevent security breaches and attacks on state property.

He denied reinforcements had been sent to the province to help restore order.
Another Rudaw article adds:
According to the latest figures from the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR), 43 people have died and 2,029 have been wounded, including both protesters and security personnel. Some 481 protesters have been detained, with 314 of them released.

Homeschoolers Go On Field Trip To See Wild Animals At Public School
[Babylon Bee] TULSA, OK‐Local homeschool mom April Wilson and her husband took their kids on an outing they will never forget.

Like most homeschool parents, the Wilsons decided to homeschool solely on the conviction that public schools today just don't have enough Bible courses. Things were going smoothly until April's oldest son, Malachi, started acting out. The homeschool bad boy began cheating when grading his own work, his chicken sculpture project was going nowhere, and he was secretly playing "Thunderstruck" on his fiddle.

She had tried threatening her kids with public school, but Mrs. Wilson knew it was time for something drastic. Inspiration came while binge watching Scared Straight reruns. "I thought, why don't I let them see where they'll end up if they don't take homeschool seriously."

So she loaded up the fourteen passenger van and took the kids on their first outing this year other than Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby. As they pulled up to the school, Malachi and his siblings, Mark, Mary, Matthew, Miriam, Moses, Micah, etc. stared from the van at children in the worst possible conditions.

They first saw some kids running around screaming inside a cage full of what appeared to be exercise equipment. Next, they peered through a glass at some sedated looking children in a room full of chairs while an adult was brainwashing them with some kind of propaganda. Soon, a loud siren blared and the students lined up in rows like inmates.

"I've never seen anything so scary in my life," said Malachi. "Those kids were clearly drugged. They weren't wearing pajamas. They used pens that weren't made from chicken feathers. They were stuck doing schoolwork all day. They talked about things I had never heard of like 'Walking Deads' and 'Stars War.' And the food! Was that gruel? I don't ever want to end in a place like this."

At the time of this report, Malachi is much more appreciative of his life as a homeschooler. His youngest brother, Malchus, however, has recently been caught eating sugar and telling lies. If the problems persist, Mrs. Wilson is considering taking them to the local DMV to show them where they will end up working if they don't straighten up.

Secret 'show trial': Nunes charges Democrats using intel panel to cloak process
[Washington Examiner] Rep. Devin Nunes of California charged that Democrats are conducting impeachment in secret in order to hide their paucity of evidence against President Trump.

"I call it faux impeachment," Nunes told the Washington Examiner on Friday. "By running it in the House Intelligence Committee, they’re trying to keep all of the information from the American public. And I understand why, because every witness we have that comes in bombs out for them.

Nunes is calling the Democrat-driven impeachment inquiry illegitimate, insisting that Trump’s attempt to push the Ukraine government to investigate political rival Joe Biden was unequivocally appropriate.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is moving the impeachment inquiry through the Intelligence Committee, where Nunes, a close Trump ally, serves as the top Republican. In an interview, the congressman sounded confident the inquiry would flop, even amid fresh indications the president might have sought to use U.S. foreign policy levers to affect an agreement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to target Biden, the former vice president and a Democrat Trump could face in 2020.

"The House has to take a vote in order for them to really start the impeachment process, to give us subpoena power ‐ the Democrats subpoena power, so that you can have a real investigation and then members of Congress can decide whether or not impeachment is appropriate," Nunes said. However, even if a majority of the House votes to support opening an impeachment inquiry, Nunes said he would defer to the White House on whether it should honor subpoenas.

The impeachment inquiry centers around a July telephone call, revealed by a whistleblower complaint, in which Trump asked Zelensky to investigate Biden and his son, Hunter. According to a summary transcript that Trump says is accurate, the president asked Zelensky to work with his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and Attorney General William Barr to investigate the Bidens and the origins of the Russia probe overseen by Robert Mueller.

#3  'I have received information'
In his written complaint, the CIA officer who became the whistleblower framed his allegations this way: "I have received information from multiple U.S. government officials that the President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 election."

But when he first passed on his concerns, they were not so specific, officials said. He first complained at his own agency, sending word through a colleague to a CIA lawyer. The complaint eventually reached the spy agency's top lawyer, Elwood, officials said.

She was told there were concerns about the president's conduct on a call with a foreign leader, but not which leader, officials said.

India issues terror alert for Jewish, Israeli targets on Yom Kippur
Heads up, Dron66046!
[IsraelTimes] Jerusalem said to be working with Indian counterparts to thwart any potential attack; security increased at embassy, synagogues and other sites.

Authorities in India have warned of a potential terror attack on Jewish or Israeli targets on Yom Kippur, which begins Tuesday night.

According a Channel 12 news report on Friday, Israeli security services are working with their Indian counterparts to thwart any potential attack over the Jewish holiday period, which runs until October 21.

The Israeli embassy in New Delhi, synagogues, Chabad buildings, Jewish schools, restaurants and hotels known as popular destinations among Israeli travelers have all been put on high alert with increased security.

The Times of India reported last month that there were fears an attack could be carried out on a Jewish target by a cell affiliated with either the al-Qaeda or Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terrorist groups.

The report said the alert was issued on the basis of intelligence received from the security agencies of other countries. No further details were given.

India’s ties with Israel have warmed in recent years, particularly in the area of military cooperation.

A guy was shot at a train station for shouting 'Ally whoos' yesterday. Two burqas were caught entering a restaurant owned by a jewish family. They walked funny for gals, and they turned out to be two gay guys meeting secretly. One of them was Israeli. Oh gawd, why !

Let's hope we don't fail our religious Jew friends. I don't think Modi would like that. I have a friend in Force One, Bombay. He says the security is pretty thin. We depend more on communal deterrence these days. But the lone wolves are hardly responsible people. They won't care if our trident carrying hordes descend later upon the masjids. The best way to protect against it is to keep muslims at 'survival stage' perpetually.

I'm so glad Diwali is also in october, so the highest security is on.

The police are now being issued bullets for their guns, and being taught to shoot? A big change from the 2008 Lashkar-e-Taiba rampage in Mumbai, which we watched from afar. I’m very glad.

Prayers for you all to come through this month without any serious incidents.

A thought for future pondering: perhaps you could deputize those Israelis there on holiday who’ve gone through their military training — it would be an interesting surprise for the jihadis...

It became so much of a problem in fact that some Israeli veterans through an NGO (Natal) tied up with a psychiatric Hospital in Himachal Pradesh to help divert doped out youngsters to get up off the ground and try using conventional therapies for 'unwinding'.

Sudan’s removal from terror list "is a process, not an event": U.S. diplomat
[Sudan Tribune] U.S. top diplomat for Africa, Tibor Nagy, restated that his administration will not remove Sudan soon from the terror list saying "it is a process, not an event", but he disclosed they will discuss with their allies way to support Sudan.

Nagy made his remarks in a telephone briefing with a number of journalists in response to the growing calls supporting Sudan removal from the state sponsor of terrorism list which limits its access to international financing institutions to rebuild the country after the collapse of the al-Bashir’s regime.

"Removing the state sponsor of terrorism designation is not an event it is a process," he said in response to similar questions by the Sudan Tribune and the Wall Street Journal about hopes of delisting Sudan from the terror list.

"We can work with Sudan and new government to make that process goes as quickly as possible, but I cannot sit here today and give you dates, how long, when it will happen, what, because there is a number of legal constraints that tight up this process," he added.

‘Unidentified snipers’ kill 4 in Baghdad on fourth day of anti-gov’t protests, total deaths 44; witness says Iranians shot at protestors
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] Iraqi security forces said “unidentified snipers” killed four people across the capital Baghdad on Friday, the fourth day of violent anti-government protests.

A statement said the four were two members of the security forces and two civilians, bringing the death toll since protests began on Tuesday to 44, including six security forces.

Security forces opened fire directly at hundreds of anti-government demonstrators Friday in central Baghdad, killing at least 10 protesters and injuring dozens, hours after Iraq’s top Shiite cleric warned both sides to end four days of violence “before it’s too late.”

Europe
EU commissioner says ‘urgent need’ to prevent migrant departures from Turkey
[Rudaw] EU migration commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said Thursday there was an "urgent need" to stop illegal departures from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
as Greece struggles to cope with a sharp increase in the refugee arrivals.

"Irregular arrivals to Greece increased over the past weeks and months," Avramopoulos told a news conference in Ankara, alongside the Ottoman Turkish and German interior ministers.

"There is an urgent need to further strengthen the prevention and detection of irregular departures from Turkey," he said.

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) announced on Tuesday that arrivals by sea from Turkey to Greece, mostly of Afghan and Syrian families, increased to 10,258 in September.

That represented the highest monthly total since the 2016 deal between Turkey and the EU to curb the flow of arrivals, according to the refugee agency.

Ottoman Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu however called on the EU to share the refugee burden as Ankara fears a new influx from Syria’s Idlib province near the border.

Turkey "has fulfilled its commitments" under the 2016 accord with the EU, said Soylu. "We expect Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
to be in the same frame."

He also warned that the hostilities in Idlib could trigger a massive influx to Turkey, which is already home to 3.6 million Syrian refugees.

Avramopoulos said he appreciated the work already done by Ankara, "especially as the migratory pressure on Turkey continues."

"Our joint visit is proof of our continued cooperation with Turkey on managing migration, together, as partners," he said.

Avramopoulos and German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer are due to visit Greece on Friday.

Seehofer said Europe was ready to help Turkey. "Wherever we can make a contribution we are willing to do so."

The visit comes after Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
threatened last month to "open the gates" to allow Syrian refugees to leave Turkey for Western countries if plans with the United States to establish a safe zone to resettle them in northern Syria fail.

"We will be forced to open the gates," Erdogan said. "We cannot be forced to handle the burden alone."

Sanders had heart attack, doctors confirm as he released
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Doctors confirmed on Friday that US Senator Bernie Sanders
...The only first openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords. He ran for the 2016 nomination for president, to be cheated out of it by Hillary Clinton, then went back to being a socialist, waiting for 2020 to roll around...
suffered a heart attack three days ago, as they announced that he had been released from hospital in Las Vegas.

Sanders, 78, said he felt "great", according to a statement from his campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

"Senator Sanders was diagnosed with a myocardial infarction," his doctors said in the statement, using the medical term for heart attack.

"Two stents were placed in a blocked coronary artery in a timely fashion. All other arteries were normal.

"His hospital course was uneventful with good expected progress."

Sanders put his bid for the White House on hold after experiencing chest discomfort while on the stump in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Sanders is the oldest candidate vying to take on President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
, 73, and is third in the Democratic nominee polls behind Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Failed seeker of the Democratic presidential nomination on multiple occasions, vice president under Barack Obama, giving it a last try in his dotage for 2020...
, 76, and Elizabeth Being Native American has been part of my story since the day I was born Warren
...Dem Senatrix from Massachussetts, who traces her noble lineage all the way back to Big Chief Spouting Bull. It has been alleged that she speaks with forked tongue but she denies that. She had a DNA test to prove her lineage and it turns out she's colorless...
, 70.

Sanders’ health has generally been good and it has been Biden who has had to bat away questions about his stamina and mental sharpness.

In March, Sanders gashed his head on a shower door and had seven stitches, but quickly returned to the campaign trail.

There are things out there that remove / dissolve blockages in the arteries. I've been taking one of them for a year now and I've even noticed the improved circulation in my feet, which has always been a bad area for me, as my feet used to be the first thing to get really cold when I'm skiing (no more) and when I ride my bike. I go through this company called Young Living, but you can probably find something like it at the hippy health food store. I found goji berry extract at the Asian food market here in Quincy, so I have that as well.

Basically I drank 4 oz's of this stuff for two months (the recommendation is three) in order to insure you just clear everything out, then you can reduce it from there, as I cut my daily intake in half.

Russian journalist arrested by IRGC in Tehran to be released soon
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian journalist Yulia Yuzik, who has been detained in Iran, will be released soon, the RIA news agency quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry front man Abbas Mousavi as saying on Friday.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested the Russian journalist in Tehran on Thursday on charges of cooperating with Israeli intelligence, according to media reports.

Yuzik is currently in an IRGC prison, according to her family.

Russia's foreign ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador regarding Yuzik's detention, reported the Russian news agency RIA. Russia’s Embassy in Tehran has previously said that it was aware of Yuzik’s arrest and that it is "dealing with the situation," according to the Moscow Times.

Yuzik’s daughter confirmed her mother’s arrest on Facebook, saying that she has been arrested in "another country," and added that her trial was scheduled for this Saturday.

Yulia worked as a news hound in Tehran a few years ago and had returned to Tehran on invitation, journalist and ex-husband of Yuzik Boris Voytsekhovskiy wrote on Facebook.

As soon as she arrived, the Iranian authorities confiscated her passport and told her that she can have it back when leaving, he added.

Later that same day, a number of IRGC agents broke into her hotel room and arrested her, wrote Voytsekhovskiy, adding that she is facing up to 10 years on charges of cooperating with Israeli intelligence.

New details emerge on Qatari Sheikh who ordered aide to murder two people
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An American who worked as the US security chief for Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad al-Thani, brother of the Emir of Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, revealed more details of the lawsuit accusing the royal of ordering him to murder two people. In an interview with ABC Action News, Matthew Pittard, who worked as a personal bodyguard for the Sheikh and is now suing him, said that he was enlisted to kill a man who tried to collect a debt of $6,000, to which he refused and instead paid the debt off himself.

He also said that he was told to shoot a woman and "bury her in the desert," because the Sheikh believed she was texting a man from another Middle Eastern country.

The lawsuit against the Qatari royal was filed on July 23 in a US federal court.

While in Qatar, Pittard said he discovered that the Sheikh had an American citizen locked up at one of his properties, whom he was able to aid with the help of the US embassy.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
according to Pittard, when Sheikh Khalid found out, he held him prisoner and threatened to kill him and his family, and subsequently forced him to sign a non-disclosure agreement while holding him at gun-point.

Pittard also revealed that he once had to administer Narcan to the Sheikh, a drug used to treat heroin overdoses, after he "OD’ed and hit the floor" at a party.

A second plaintiff Matthew Allende, who worked as a medic for the billionaire, told ABC Action News that he sometimes had to stay up for "20, 24, 36 hours straight" to watch the Sheikh while he partied, to make sure that he didn’t stop breathing.

He also added that although he was finally given a day off after working for three straight weeks, he was ordered back inside the palace by an armed guard who said the Sheikh had changed his mind.

Fearing for his life, he tried to escape by scaling a 5.4-meter perimeter wall to escape, sustaining serious injuries that required immediate attention and surgery, according to his lawsuit, which added that he was later terminated. "The amount of fear from that point was just like every day was a stressful day," Allende said. "You wake up and kind of wondering what exactly is going to happen today."

Cameroon president says dropping prosecution against 'some' political rivals
[PULSE.NG] Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
's President Paul Biya on Friday announced he had ordered prosecutions to be dropped against "some" opposition leaders, including a number from the main Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC) led by his jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
rival Maurice Kamto.

Kamto was arrested in late January after months of peaceful opposition protests over the results of the October 2018 election. The move is the latest in a series of concessions from the 86-year-old leader, who is under intense international pressure over a sweeping crackdown on the opposition.

He is also attempting to ease surging tensions in separatist anglophone regions, with talks on the turmoil wrapping up Friday.

"I have ordered the discontinuance of proceedings pending before Military Tribunals against some officials and bully boyz of political parties in particular the (MRC)," he said on his official Twitter account in English.

In French, he added that it affected those "arrested and detained for acts committed in contesting the results of the recent presidential elections".

He did not specify whether the decision would affect Kamto, Cameroon's main opposition leader who unsuccessfully claimed victory in elections last year.

Kamto went on trial with 88 others in a military court in September on charges of insurrection, hostility to the motherland and rebellion -- crimes which could carry the death penalty
. Their next hearing was scheduled for October 8.

His party also was not able to confirm details.

"I do not know if Maurice Kamto is involved or not," said senior MRC official Emmanuel Simh.

Kamto was arrested in late January after months of peaceful opposition protests over the results of the October 2018 election won by Biya, who has been in power for 37 years.

Palestinians to receive $430 mln Israeli transfer, say officials
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Paleostinian Authority will receive a transfer of 1.5 billion shekels ($430 million) from Israel, officials from the two governments said Friday, in a step towards resolving a months-long standoff between them.

Israel will continue to deduct money from the transfers to account for the PA’s payments to prisoners, a decision that sparked the row, but the two sides have agreed to further talks to resolve that issue,

Paleostinian civil affair minister Hussein al-Sheikh said.

Shai Babad, director general of Israel’s finance ministry, told AFP the transfer would be made on Sunday to the PA government, which is facing a crippling financial crisis caused by the dispute.

Sheikh confirmed they would receive the funds.

In February, Israel decided to withhold about $10 million a month from revenues of some $190 million it collects on the PA’s behalf, prompting Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
to refuse all payments - saying he would accept all or nothing.

The money comes from customs duties levied on goods destined for Paleostinian markets that transit through Israeli ports and constitutes more than 50 percent of the PA’s revenues.

The deduction corresponds to what Israel says the PA paid Paleostinian prisoners in Israeli jails, or their families.

Prisoners who have carried out attacks on Israelis are among those receiving the payments, and Israel says the policy encourages further violence.

Paleostinians view prisoners as fighting against Israel’s occupation and say the money supports families that have lost their main breadwinners.

Sheikh said the two sides had agreed to form a committee to resolve remaining issues, including the money withheld over prisoner payments.

"This is a step towards resolving the crisis but the crisis didn’t end," he told AFP.

The financial shortfall had been so severe the PA has been forced to halve salaries to its tens of thousands of civil servants.

Khalid bin Salman: Tehran brazenly exploiting Yemen for its own interests
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s Vice Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman, called Iran’s talk about a partial ceasefire in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
"a cheap trade" and an exploitation of the country and its people.

Prince Khalid bin Salman said in a series of tweets on Friday that the Iranian regime is "brazenly trying to exploit Yemen for its own interests."

"On the one hand, it [the Iranian regime] blames the Yemenis to evade responsibility for its terrorist acts. On the other, it undermines Yemenis by speaking on their behalf, saying that it is seeking peace in Yemen in a campaign of disinformation and lies," Prince Khalid tweeted.

"Iran’s foreign minister is trying to defend the Iranian regime by blaming the attacks on Abqaiq and Khurais on the Yemenis in a cowardly manner, without regard to the security, safety, and stability of Yemen," he added, commenting on the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s interview with CNN.

"It is time for the Yemenis - all Yemenis - and we will be with them, to unite against the Iranian project of chaos, strife, and destruction, and to prioritize Yemen’s interest and security and its people’s safety, stability, and prosperity over any other interests," Prince Khalid bin Salman said.

Prince Khalid added that Saudi Arabia views the announcement of a partial ceasefire in Yemen positively because it has always been what the Kingdom sought, adding that the Kingdom hopes that it will be implemented effectively.

Libyan National Army strikes destroy Turkish drones in Mitiga, Misrata airports
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Libyan National Army has destroyed several Ottoman Turkish drones stored in Mitiga and Misrata airports during an air raid operation, the spokesperson of the forces loyal to eastern Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...

"Our intelligence sources identified these sites, which were used in the preparation and storage of Ottoman Turkish drones. These sites were airport hangars used to equip and store the drones and missiles, one at Mitiga airport and two at Misrata airport were used for the same purpose," Ahmed al-Mismari, the LNA spokesperson said in a statement released early on Wednesday.

"This threat was dealt with by the LNA Air Force aircraft, which took off from several bases to attack their targets," he added.

Libyan forces loyal to eastern-based commander Khalifa Haftar launched an offensive in April to capture Tripoli

Senior member of terror group allegedly behind deadly Dolev bombing arrested
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian media report Israeli forces detained Walid Muhammad Hanatsheh outside Ramallah; riots break out nearby.

Israeli security forces early on Thursday arrested a senior member of the terror group suspected of being behind a bombing attack outside the Dolev settlement in August that killed Israeli teenage girl Rina Shnerb and serious injured her father and brother, Paleostinian media reported.

Walid Muhammad Hanatsheh, a longtime member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP), was detained in his home in the village of At-Tira, outside Ramallah, as part of a series of predawn arrest raids in the central West Bank.

The Shin Bet security service refused to comment on the reports of Hanatsheh’s arrest. The Israel Defense Forces said a total of 13 Paleostinian suspects were arrested in overnight raids.

"The investigation into the cell is ongoing. We are not providing information about any arrests at this time," the Shin Bet said in a statement.

Iraqi forces bust terror cell plotting to assassinate Ayatollah Sistani
[TWITTER]
Iraq's security forces have dismantled a terrorist group as it was planning to assassinate the most prominent Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in the wake of ongoing demonstrations against corruption, unemployment and poor public services, a report says.

Lebanon's Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network, citing Najaf Provincial Governor Luay al-Yassiry, said on Friday that members of the terror outfit actually wanted to kill the revered cleric in the holy city of Najaf, located about 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of the capital Baghdad, and had infiltrated the old part of the city for the purpose.

Yassiry did not provide any further information about the identity or the number of terrorists involved in the assassination attempt.

Meanwhile, the correspondent for the Iran-based Arabic-language al-Alam television news network, Navid Behrouz, reported that the captured terrorists had planned to incite protesters to storm Ayatollah Sistani’s office.

10 Zamfara indigenes enslaved in Burkina Faso regain freedom
[PULSE.NG] A total of 10 Zamfara indigenes enslaved in Burkina Faso have been handed over to the state government on Thursday, after regaining their freedom.

The 10 victims were among the 23 people evacuated to Nigeria by Katsina State Government from Burkina Faso with the assistance of the Nigerian embassy in that country.

Special Adviser to the Katsina governor on Drugs, Narcotics and Human Trafficking, Alhaji Hamza Brodo, handed over the 10 persons to the Secretary to Zamfara Government, Bala Maru, in Gusau.

He said, “a total of 23 persons were deceitfully transported by one Usman who sold them to one woman in Benin Republic and from there, the woman too sold them to another buyer in Burkina Faso.

“An alarm was raised to the Katsina state government by Nigerian Embassy in Burkina Faso which said all the enslaved persons were from Katsina leading to Governor Masari directing me to go and bring them back.

“It is on getting there that I discovered that 10 of the victims are from Zamfara state and on the authority of my governor, I brought all of them back.

“Governor Masari gave them some money to start their own businesses with a call on them never to allow themselves to be deceived with better jobs offers by human traffickers.”

He then handed a letter dated October 2, 2019, signed by Secretary to the Katsina state Government, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa titled “Repatriation and Handing Over of Trafficked Persons” containing the list of the 10 victims who all hail from Bungudu local government area of Zamfara.

Receiving the victims, the SSG thanked Katsina state government for the effort and promised to reunite the victims with their families.

Narrating their ordeals, the victims said they were subjected to various hard labour including digging at mining sites without pay.

The victims said they contacted the Ouagadougou Hausa Community leader who reported the matter to Nigerian Embassy there which led to their return.

Al-Sadr calls on Mahdi government to quit, to be followed by snap elections
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraq’s firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
called on Friday for the government to resign and for snap elections as deadly protests intensified in the capital Baghdad and across the country.

A statement signed by the former Shia militia leader said that to avoid further violence which has claimed at least 44 lives since protests began on Tuesday the "government should resign and early elections should be held under UN supervision."

Earlier on Friday, al-Sadr had in a statement instructed allied politicians to suspend participation in all parliament activities until the government introduces a program acceptable to the people.

The influential Shia holy man’s Sairoon political bloc won the largest single bloc of seats in last year’s election with 54 in the 329-seat parliament.

Sadr’s position came after Iraq’s top Shia holy man, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, earlier on Friday sharply criticized the Iraqi government in the wake of deadly violence sweeping the country, urging both politicians and protesters to back down "before it is too late."

On Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi had called on politicians to support him to reshuffle cabinet posts and urged calm in a televised speech on state TV.

The Prime Minister said the protesters' "legitimate demands" had been heard and they should go home, adding that the security measures used against the demonstrations were like "bitter medicine" that needs to be swallowed.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the congregants were being herded into the paddy wagon...
Iraqi security forces opened fire on dozens of protesters gathering in Baghdad for a fourth day of demonstrations against corruption, unemployment, and poor public services.

Tanzanian president backs official who caned school pupils
[PULSE.NG] Tanzanian President John Magufuli has lauded a regional governor who caused outrage by caning 14 schoolchildren, saying he should have done more.

They had violated a ban on having mobile phones in their school and are accused of burning down their dormitory in retaliation.
Footage of the punishment, which went viral on the internet, showed Albert Chalamila, governor of Mbeya in southern Tanzania, giving three strokes of the cane to each student, all of them stretched out on the ground.

They had violated a ban on having mobile phones in their school and are accused of burning down their dormitory in retaliation.

The punishment was administered in front of the students' schoolmates, coppers and teachers and unleashed wide criticism on social media.

"I congratulate the regional commissioner for caning the students and that was actually not enough. He could do more," the president said on Thursday during a visit to a neighbouring region.

"Some people are talking about human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
but there is no way we can afford having arrogant students like these. They can't burn a dormitory just because their phones which are not allowed in schools were taken by teachers.

"I told the regional commissioner to suspend all students in that school and their parents must pay before the students are allowed back to school. Those who were directly involved should be taken to jail."

Boko Haram invade Chibok, set houses on fire
[PULSE.NG] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
gunnies have reportedly invaded Mifa, a village in Chibok Local Goverment Area of Borno State and have set many houses on fire.

A resident of the village, who spoke with TheCable said the gunnies attacked the village around 8pm and set their houses ablaze.

The source said, "They are burning houses as I speak to you, many of them arrived with cycle of violences and started attacking the village."

The source also said that the attack has caused panic in the village and neighbouring villages in Chibok, adding that many people have escaped.

"They have burnt so many houses especially because it is night and the terrain of the place.

"We don’t know of any casualty yet. The troops just arrived although the gunnies are still inside the villages," he said.

Mifa, which is said to be eight kilometres away from Chibok town, is the last settlement which shares a border with the Sambisa forest.

Fresh proof Dems’ ‘impeachment inquiry’ is just a kangaroo court
[NYPOST] House Democrats’ "impeachment inquiry" is looking more and more like a kangaroo court ‐ a rush to make President Trump look as bad as possible, as quickly as possible, rather than an effort to get all the facts on the public record. Case in point: Their handling of this week’s hearing with former US Ukraine envoy Kurt Volker.

Democrats rushed out of the closed-door sitdown to claim Volker’s testimony was damning to President Trump. But Republicans claimed the reverse ‐ and, tellingly, they’re the ones calling for the transcript to be made public.

Equally important, the texts that Volker shared with the committee (leaked to ABC News) indicate the president wasn’t using military aid to blackmail Ukraine’s leaders.

, is wanted in connection with the October 4, 2017 attack on a joint US-Nigerien patrol near the village of Tongo Tongo.

Four Nigerien troops were killed in the ambush along with four members of the US Special Forces.

The State Department's Rewards for Justice Program is offering up to $5 million for information leading to the identification or location of Abu Walid, a State Department official said.

"(Abu Walid) has a long long history of belonging to terrorist organizations including Al Qaeda," the official told AFP.

A second reward of up to $5 million is being offered for "information leading to the arrest or conviction in any country of any individual who committed, conspired to commit, or aided or abetted in the commission of the 2017 ambush in Niger."

No arrests have been made in connection with the bushwhack so far.

"We hope to generate leads or information that would lead the US government or the Nigerien government to investigate and find the perpetrators of that attack," the official said.

The Pentagon conducted an investigation following the ambush and several officers were sanctioned in connection with the preparation of the mission.

Since the Rewards for Justice program began in 1984, more than $150 million has been paid out to over 100 people who provided "actionable information that helped bring forces of Evil to justice or prevented acts of international terrorism," according to the State Department.

UN chief hopes to maintain ‘momentum’ in Western Sahara talks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] UN Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
said he hopes to maintain the political "momentum" to seek a solution to the Western Sahara conflict, despite having not had a special envoy to the region for the past four months.

In a report Wednesday, Guterres praised the progress made by the UN’s former envoy, Horst Kohler, who left the position in May for health reasons.

He "was able to reinstate a much-needed dynamic and momentum to the political process, including through the round-table process he launched which brought together Morocco, Frente Polisario, Algeria, and Mauritania," Guterres said in the document delivered to the Security Council.

Following a long period of inaction, two round tables in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
in December and March brought together the various parties, though without reaching any significant breakthroughs.

"It is therefore essential that the continuity and momentum in this political process are not lost," Guterres said, despite the fact that Kohler so far does not have a successor.

Many diplomats have lamented the difficulty in finding the right fit for his replacement ‐ someone who is willing to work on what sometimes seems like an endless dilemma.

Morocco annexed the former Spanish colony and fought a war with the Algeria-backed Polisario Front from 1975 to 1991 when a ceasefire deal was agreed.

A UN mission was deployed to monitor the truce and to prepare a referendum on Western Sahara’s independence from Morocco, but it never materialized.

The UN maintains a peacekeeping force of 240 Blue Helmets (MINURSO) charged with monitoring the ceasefire.

Ukraine says plans major prisoner swap with Russia
[PRESSTV] Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko says his country plans to conduct a “large-scale” prisoner swap with Russia.

The two sides exchanged dozens of prisoners on September 7 in a move that appeared to pave the way for the restoration of relations between the two countries after a nearly five-year hiatus over the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Earlier this week, Moscow and Kiev also achieved a breakthrough in talks that would open the way for an international summit aimed at ending the fighting in Ukraine’s east.

“I hope that very soon — and I mean literally next week — we plan an even more large-scale exchange,” Prystaiko said on a talk show on a national TV channel late on Thursday.

There was no immediate confirmation of the specific plan from the Kremlin, but it did say it would be happy to do an exchange.

“The Russian side has long ago said Russia would be happy to do an all-for-all exchange and this must be the final goal,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

He declined to offer a timeline for a swap, saying it depended on the preparedness of the two countries.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Spanish police saved from sea by smugglers they were chasing
[PULSE.NG] Three Spanish coppers who were thrown into the sea when their boat crashed early Friday during a high-speed chase were pulled to safety by the drug-smugglers they were chasing, police said.

The unexpected rescue happened after a police vessel began pursuing a speedboat "with four people on board that was suspected of transporting drugs" in waters off the southern coast of Spain, a police statement said.

During the chase, the two vessels collided, causing three coppers to fall into the sea as their boat "span out of control".

Using a megaphone, a police helicopter that was hovering overhead called on those on board the speedboat to help and they pulled the three agents to safety unharmed.

The gesture did not spare them, however, when police found three tonnes of hashish in the water nearby.

"They were arrested for drug trafficking," a police statement said, indicating that more than 80 bundles of hash had been recovered from the sea.

Ottoman Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar reiterated Ankara’s stance that it won’t accept delays in the creation of what it calls a "safe zone." Turkey could act alone to set it up, he said, reviving concerns about a possible Ottoman Turkish military operation.

Science
Brain structure change in Holocaust survivors hereditary, study finds
[Medium] According to research presented at the 5th European Academy of Neurology Congress in Oslo on Sunday, the horrific ordeals of the death camps left a mark on the survivors’ brain structure, specifically in the form of grey matter reduction affecting the parts of their brain responsible for stress response, memory, motivation, emotion, learning, and behavior.

The study, called “Life-long effects of extreme stress on brain structures — a Holocaust survivor MRI study,” compared the brain function of 28 Holocaust survivors with the brain function of 28 people whose family had not been involved in the Holocaust utilizing MRI scanning.

As explained in a statement by the European Academy of Neurology, survivors showed a significantly decreased volume of grey matter in the brain compared with controls of a similar age who had not been directly exposed via personal or family history to the Holocaust.

The average age of the participants in the study was between 79 and 80.

The scientists also detected a similar reduction of grey matter in areas of the brain associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in combat veterans and those suffering early-life stress experience. However, compared to those suffering from other forms of PTSD, survivors presented a higher level of stress but also higher levels of post-traumatic growth, calling themselves generally satisfied with their life after the war.

“We revealed substantial differences in the brain structures involved in the processing of emotion, memory and social cognition, in a higher level of stress but also of post-traumatic growth between Holocaust survivors and controls. Early results show this is also the case in children of survivors too,” he added.

The study is not the first that identifies epigenetic changes in the children of those who experienced severe trauma.

#1  My guess is that starvation will do that to a person.

#4  The study may be grounded in actual phenomena discovered, relating to the effects of the holocaust on its victims. The conclusions and hypothesis it tries to posit are however... suspect.

Or maybe I'm just a cynical bastard wary of devious antisemitic academics.

'Epigenetic changes' from one generation only are called transgenerational. The size of the brain or retarding of the growth thereof is beyond the scope of one generation of change.

What I want to know is which survivors lined up to be tested by the eggheads ?

#5  parts of their brain responsible for stress response, memory, motivation, emotion, learning, and behavior

The most likely explanation is that people with these handicaps had a better (not good but better than average) chance of surviving death camps. And, if the cause is genetic, they've passed these attributes to their descendants.

p.s. No need to invoke antisemitism, Dron66046. Simply recognize the fact that the researchers are likely biophysicists i.e., physicists working in biology. And physicists can't understand the theory of evolution - look at all the prominent physicists who published "proof" that evolution cannot work (the morons appear incapable of grasping the idea that variation is followed by selection).

#6  Maybe you're right. I did say I'm a cynical bastard.

Yes, so the traits passed on would've been inherent for far longer then, in only particular individuals. Because there's no way PTSD could have induced the children to have reduced gray matter or cerebral mutations (!)

Early results show this is also the case in children of survivors too

This is what I think was suspect.

Alaa Hamdan, 28, was shot in the chest by Israel Defense Force soldiers in a clash near Jabalia in northern Gaza, the ministry’s front man said.

The Israel Defense Forces had no immediate comment on the death.

A further five Paleostinians were maimed by gunfire, the ministry said.

Around 6,000 Paleostinians took part in the day’s protests with some rioters throwing rocks and explosives at the security fence and at troops along the border.

The rioters also burned tires and threw fire bombs and the army responded with tear gas and occasional live fire.

Last Friday, more that 7,000 Paleostinians protested along the Gaza border, with one killed and 28 injured by Israeli riot dispersal measures.

Since March 2018, Paleostinians have been holding weekly "March of Return" protests on the border, which Israel has accused Gaza’s Hamas rulers of using to carry out attacks on troops and attempt to breach the security fence. Hamas, an Islamist terror group, seeks to destroy Israel.

#1  Abd al-Majid al-Zindani was a Yemeni Afghan-Arab, Salafist, al-Islah (Reform) Party leader, chief of the Hashid tribal confederation of North Yemen. Zindani was a crucial element in the Afghan-Arab jihad. In the period 1984-1990 he had been responsible for the movement of some 5,000-7,000 Yemenis to camps in Afghanistan for training and religious indoctrination. In the war in Afghanistan he became well known to the Saudi royal family, and he was feared by most of them. Zindani was a corrupt Sunni who could lead Arab-Afghans abroad but failed to lead at home. It has all been downhill since then.

#4  Note first sentence. And, "The Houthis’ ties to Iran, which they emphasized after they took control of the government in 2014, reinforced Saudi historic fears..."

Just giving depth to the Saudi "lens" and its "fears". I could have gone to great lengths to explain how the Saudis have chosen the wrong partners. Their blunders have given the Houthis the Sanaa access that has allowed a religious minority to create a schism that now seems unbridgeable.
Sometimes in depth reporting requires an in depth response.
