[GEO.TV] KARACHI: Investigation has been concluded into a bizarre as well as tragic incident in which a young man allegedly bumped off his close friend for eating a zinger burger the accused had ordered for his ’girlfriend’, police said on Wednesday.
As per the report, the victim was identified as 17-year-old Ali Kerio, son of Javed Kerio, a Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... District South sessions judge, while the accused shooter, Daniyal Nazeer Mir Bahar, is the son of Nazir Ahmed Mir Bahar, a retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
The findings of the investigation suggest that on February 8 Daniyal invited his girlfriend, Shazia, to his house — located in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase V — where his friend Ali Kerio and his brother Ahmar Kerio were also present.
As per the report, the accused had ordered two zinger burgers for himself and Shazia, but Ali purportedly consumed half of one burger, which enraged Daniyal so much that he seized his security guard's assault rifle and opened fire on Ali, who later succumbed to gunshot injuries on way to the hospital.
The investigating officer has finalised the inquiry and submitted the report to higher authorities, implicating the police officer's son in the crime. The accused Daniyal is currently in jail as the legal proceedings of the case continue.

When I was in high school, I was at this house and there was disagreement btwn two gentlemen when one did too much of the other's cocaine which evolved into a ruckus then fist fight. Regardless of the circumstances, when the cops showed up, the story that made it to the local newspaper (when we still had local newspapers) was that there was an disagreement over hamburgers which escalated.
So when I hear stories like this, I think bullshit - unless zinger burger is innuendo... which would make story more believable.
[Variety] On Thursday, the court found in a 4-3 ruling that the judge in Weinstein’s trial — a landmark moment in the #MeToo movement that the 2017 allegations against him started — had shown prejudice by allowing women to testify about allegations that were not part of the case. The court has now ordered a new trial.
Weinstein, the Oscar-winning producer of “Shakespeare in Love” and “Good Will Hunting,” is serving a 23-year sentence at the Mohawk Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison in Rome, N.Y. He will remain imprisoned as he was also convicted of rape in Los Angeles in 2022 and sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison. However, Weinstein was acquitted in the Los Angeles trial on charges involving a woman who testified in his New York case.
Weinstein spokesperson Juda Engelmayer said in a statement: “We’re cautiously excited. He still has a long road ahead of him because of the Los Angeles case. We are studying the ramifications of the appeal right now.” Weinstein’s lawyers will be holding a press conference today at 1:30 p.m. ET in Manhattan to discuss the decision.
“We reaffirm that no person accused of illegality may be judged on proof of uncharged crimes that serve only to establish the accused’s propensity for criminal behavior,” wrote Judge Jenny Rivera in the court’s majority opinion. “It is an abuse of judicial discretion to permit untested allegations of nothing more than bad behavior that destroys a defendant’s character but sheds no light on their credibility as related to the criminal charges lodged against them.”
In the New York case, Weinstein was convicted of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley, a former production assistant on “Project Runway,” at his apartment in 2006. He was also convicted of raping Jessica Mann at a hotel in 2013.
Weinstein’s attorneys, led by Arthur Aidala, appealed the conviction on numerous grounds. A lower appellate court denied the appeal in 2022, but the state’s highest court agreed to hear the case.
“Today’s decision is a major step back in holding those accountable for acts of sexual violence,” said Douglas Wigdor, an attorney who represented two pre-trial witnesses in New York. “Courts routinely admit evidence of other uncharged acts where they assist juries in understanding issues concerning the modus operandi or scheme of the defendant. The jury was instructed on the relevance of this testimony and overturning the verdict is tragic in that it will require the victims to endure yet another trial.”
Judge Madeline Singas wrote in the court’s dissenting opinion, “With today’s decision, this Court continues to thwart the steady gains survivors of sexual violence have fought for in our criminal justice system. Forgotten are the women who bear the psychological trauma of sexual violence and the scars of testifying again, and again. This erosion of precedent, born from a refusal to accept that crimes of sexual violence are far more nuanced and complex than other crimes, comes at the expense and safety of women.”
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said: “We will do everything in our power to retry this case, and remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault.”
At oral argument in February, Aidala maintained that Justice James Burke had stacked the deck against Weinstein by allowing three women — Dawn Dunning, Tarale Wulff and Lauren Young — to testify against him.
Each of the women told the jury that Weinstein had sexually assaulted them after they showed up for what they thought would be a business meeting. The so-called “Molineux” witnesses were called to show that Weinstein’s assaults had a common pattern, and that he was not confused about whether or not the victims consented.
Weinstein’s defense argued that the effect of the testimony, however, was to attack his character without shedding any light on the allegations for which he was actually charged.
“This is major prejudice,” Aidala argued in February. “It’s saying, ‘He’s a bad guy. He’s a bad guy. He’s a bad guy.’”
The defense also challenged the judge’s ruling allowing prosecutors to attack Weinstein’s credibility if he had taken the stand. Before the trial, Burke said he would allow prosecutors to raise as many as 28 separate incidents of alleged misconduct, including bullying and threats of violence. Weinstein did not testify, and the defense argued that the judge’s ruling effectively foreclosed his ability to effectively defend himself.
The issue of “prior bad acts” testimony was also raised in Bill Cosby’s successful appeal of his sexual assault conviction in Pennsylvania. In that case, five women were allowed to testify to buttress the one allegation that was charged. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned that conviction on different grounds, finding that prosecutors had reneged on a promise not to prosecute Cosby.

I still say we should have a three strikes rule for judges. If they get overruled three times they are out, no running to recover their seat in the next election.

The dear departed, Mohammad Razaq, aged 40, was targeted in his village, Kunda Top, within the Thanamandi area. Razaq was an employee of the government's Social Welfare department. His brother, Mohammad Tahir Choudhary, serves in the Territorial Army but was unharmed during the attack. Following the incident, Razaq was laid to rest in his village on Tuesday.

The police have gathered credible evidence pointing to Abu Hamza's involvement in this heinous act.
Efforts are underway by the police and security forces across the Rajouri-Poonch districts to apprehend this group and bring them to justice. In an attempt to gather vital information that could lead to Abu Hamza's capture, authorities have announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh. They have also released a poster depicting the terrorist, who is believed to be 32 years old and was last seen wearing a Pathani suit with a brown shawl and carrying an orange bag. Yes, you read that correctly: A Biden top capital gains and dividends tax rate of 44.6%.
Under the Biden proposal, the combined federal-state capital gains tax exceeds 50% in many states. California will face a combined federal-state rate of 59%, New Jersey 55.3%, Oregon at 54.5%, Minnesota at 54.4%, and New York state at 53.4%.
Worse, capital gains are not indexed to inflation. So Americans already get stuck paying tax on some "gains" that are not real. It is a tax on inflation, something created by Washington and then taxed by Washington. Biden’s high inflation makes this especially painful.
Many hard working couples who started a small business at age 25 who now wish to sell the business at age 65 will face the Biden proposed 44.6% top rate, plus state capital gains taxes. And much of that "gain" isn’t real due to inflation. But they’ll owe tax on it.
Capital gains taxes are often a form of double taxation. When capital gains come from stocks, stock mutual funds, or stock ETFs, the capital gains tax is a cascaded second layer of tax on top of the current federal corporate income tax of 21%. (Biden has also proposed a corporate income tax hike to 28%).

There's a better riot control agent to use. It's fast acting, provides a massive deterrent effect, and reduces the likelihood of reoccurrence. It's easy to make, pretty cheap really and I'd wager the absolutely the highest effectiveness per liter over every other riot agent.

[IsraelTimes] A Peruvian judge has ordered 18 months of preventative detention for an Iranian and two Peruvian men while they are investigated for allegedly attempting to kill two Israelis living in the South American country.
The ruling by Magistrate Miguel Quevedo was handed down Tuesday but released Wednesday. The defendants are also accused of conspiracy to commit terrorism.
The judge said the motive for the unsuccessful alleged killing plot was unclear, but police and prosecutors in Peru have said the Iranian, Majid Azizi, could be a member of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is responsible for intelligence work outside Iran.
On March 15, after Azizi’s arrest, the Israeli embassy in Lima thanked the Peruvian police and prosecutor’s office in a blurb "for having dismantled an Iranian attack that was directed against an Israeli citizen."
Prosecutors in Peru have subsequently said that images, messages and testimonies were found indicating that Azizi contacted Peruvians Walter Loja and Ángelo Trucios in March to plan the killing of Israeli Shachar Malka.
Malka, who is alive, has said on social media that he has been working as a tour guide and healer with traditional plants in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incas, for more than five years.
The other Israeli citizen who they allegedly planned to kill was Gilad Duchovny, who opened a cafe in Cusco in 2006 with his twin brother.
According to the judge, "it has been established with a high degree of plausibility" that Azizi conspired with the Peruvians to kill the Israelis. Police found information about Malka and Duchovny in Azizi’s Lima house. One of the Peruvians arrested, Trucios, has a conviction for murder and aggravated robbery.

An Iranian court has sentenced to death a popular rapper tossed in the slammer Book 'im, Mahmoud!
for more than a year and a half for supporting nationwide protests sparked by Mahsa Amini’s death, local media reported Wednesday.
"Branch 1 of Isfahan Revolutionary Court... sentenced Toomaj Salehi to death on the charge of corruption on Earth," the singer’s lawyer Amir Raisian said, quoted by the reformist Shargh newspaper.
Salehi, 33, was arrested in October 2022 after publicly backing the wave of demonstrations that erupted a month earlier, triggered by the death in jug of 22-year-old Amini, an Iranian Kurd who were tossed into the calaboose over an alleged breach of the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s strict dress rules for women.
The court "in an unprecedented move, emphasized its independence and did not implement the Supreme Court’s ruling," the lawyer said, adding that "we will certainly appeal against the sentence."
"The Supreme Court, as an appellate authority, had reviewed the case and issued a ruling to the lower court to remove the flaws in the sentence," he added.
"The fact is that the verdict of the court has clear legal conflicts," the lawyer was quoted as saying.
"The contradiction with the ruling of the Supreme Court is considered the most important and at the same time the strangest part of this ruling."
The Revolutionary Court had accused Salehi of "assistance in sedition, assembly, and collusion, propaganda against the system and calling for riots," he said.
Months of unrest following Amini’s death on September 16, 2022, saw hundreds of people killed including dozens of security personnel, and thousands more arrested.
Iranian officials labeled the protests "riots" and accused Tehran’s foreign foes of fomenting the unrest.
Nine men have been executed in protest-related cases involving killing and other violence against security forces.

Israeli troops foiled an attempted stabbing attack near the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba, the military said Wednesday.
The Israel Defense Forces said a female Paleostinian assailant tried to stab troops of the Kfir Brigade’s Shimshon Battalion, who were stationed at an army post at a junction near the settlement.
"The troops engaged and shot up the terrorist who held a knife and charged toward the force," the military said.
The woman was killed, the army said. No troops were hurt in the incident.
The official Paleostinian news agency WAFA identified the alleged assailant as Maimouna Abdel Hamid Harahsheh, 20.

Troops also arrested Ahmed Dawabsha, 21, a resident of the West Bank town of Duma, near Ramallah, who is alleged to have been involved in the murder of 14-year-old Benjamin Achimeir, who was found dead on April 13, a day after setting out from an illegal West Bank outpost to herd sheep.

In a separate investigation, a UN oversight body is looking into the Israeli allegations against the 12 UNRWA staff.
After the Monday report was released, UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said Tuesday that the claims against the agency were "primarily motivated by the objective to strip the Paleostinians from the refugee status — and this is a reason why there are pushes today for UNRWA not to be present" in Gaza, East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Israel has long complained about the agency, founded in 1949 to care for Paleostinian refugees. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for UNRWA to be shut down, saying it is infested by terror elements and unjustly seeks to perpetuate a Paleostinian refugee crisis.
Lazzarini called for a Security Council investigation into the "blatant disregard" for UN operations in Gaza, adding that 180 of the agency’s staff have been killed since the war began. He said that the Israeli army has arrested, even tortured UNRWA staffers, echoing assertions published in the UNRWA’s own report from February, which claimed that detained staffers made false confessions about their ties to Hamas ...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... under coercion from Israeli soldiers.
Lazzarini, who had warned the agency would be insolvent within weeks after funding was pulled months ago, also revealed that the organization had been able to partly offset the shortfall by raising $100 million from online donations.
Israel rejected the conclusions of the report released Monday, saying it was sidestepping the issue.
"This is not what a true and comprehensive investigation looks like," said the Israeli statement. "This is what a desire to avoid the problem and not call it by its name looks like."
