#3 Some years back I read about the cultural differences in story and movie choices of the Chinese. In a Chinese story the hero usually dies at the end, their feeling was that anybody can be brave if they feel they have even a small chance to survive, if the hero knows that he is absolutely going to die if he continues what he feels is a right path, then he is a real hero.
Holly Wooden heros will seldom take on a role like that.
