#1 How about just using what they already take and instead of redirection, sequester, or plain out right graft, actually do the work.

#2 Statists have created an aura of importance for a government over the people who actually govern themselves.

#4 Maybe they see that the cheap labor is about to dry up and taking it out of the taxpayer's hide is Plan B...

#5 Once again as the capitalist system creates efficiencies the taxes tied to the inefficiencies must be adjusted. With cars much more efficient with MPG, migration to cities over the last 25 years, electric cars.... the taxpaying driver community must pay more for the right to drive on poorly managed infrastructure

#6 More U.S. Chamber of Communists drivel.

#7 There used to be this thing called 'capital budgeting' that took the need for infrastructure replacement into account. These anti-free enterprise asswipes have some nerve asking us to pay for someone else's neglect / mistakes.

#8 cheap labor is about to dry
Last I knew government employed no cheap labor except the military, and they aren't used in infrastructure jobs in this country.

#10 And isn't the MPG government-mandated? But Chamber of Commerce needs a big "vai en culo".

#11 Sure, if anyone can explain where billions of DOT funding has gone to.

I have very off pudding feelings about the Chamber (a good villain name) demanding more illegals for their company cronies.

#12 My local bridge projects receive FHWA funds via DOT/Caltrans oversight. I'm sure the bureaucracy eats their fair share, but at the local level our soft costs are about half the Caltrans rate. We run a lean operation.

That said, the constant gas tax increases are a also a measure of the leftist/statist effort to cut your transportation choices and free will (Mileage taxes). They HATE private vehicle ownership and freedom of choice. Wait til cars are driverless (no steering wheel) and you wanna take that pleasure/vacation trip two states over and the car says that trip "isn't authorized". Think that can't happen?

#14 herding the future generations into urban hives allows for better control and governance. Hub cities are the goal, and urban sumps allow for better erosion of traditional American values of independence and individualism into group think and obedient serfs!
