in turkey it's culturally a huge advertisement to islamists that "we are no longer secular"

the army was the protector of turkish secularism. Erdogan is merging islam with the organs of the state

#4 yep alan c erdogan does want the caliphate back. that's why he supports islamic state. he thinks he can co-opt their caliphate and fold it into his own.

basically it's the muslim brotherhood. they formed after the last caliphate ruled by the ottomans ended.
