#4 I am not a lawyer, nor a gun expert, but couldn't she have destroyed the gun, and not made it illegal by cutting it in half? Closer to the receiver? That would render the gun inoperable, without making it a short barreled rifle.

#7 Actually, the way politicians work, there could be quite a can of worms here. Where'd she get that gun? LEO evidence room, perhaps? If so, was that a legitimate transfer? Was it actually even a gun?
