#1 Cattle are Ruminants. They 'ferment' their plant-based food in the Rumen (filled with various bacteria that breaks down the cellulose) prior to final digestion by the other three stomach parts.

The microbial action in the Rumen creates Methane.

Cows fart. A lot. Cleaned out dairy barns when I was young so relying on first-hand experience here. The Smoking Lamp was not lit (although the farm kids used lighters for spectacular effects).

Don't really know if they, or their food, can be re-engineered not to form methane and still provide nutrition for the animal. Seems to me that the elimination of the cattle entirely is the goal of the esteemed OPSR and some Oregon legislators.

Of course collecting the Methane for power generation, or other uses, doesn't seem to be on the table.

#2 If you like cheese, butter or creamy dairy foods where do these idiots think that they will be produced -- Erewhon or Shangri-La? Dairy cattle breeds that produce higher cream content thrive in cooler, wetter climates. With cheap interstate shipping it only makes sense to move the herds out of California and up the coast.

#5 If you're a vegan, getting rid of cows won't bother you. Kinda makes you wonder how many vegans are involved with this nonsense. (HT to JohnQC since I found this video on the page he linked. They also had one about elephant farts.)

#6 AU, when are the vegans going to pry the Ben & Jerry's ice cream out of women's hands?

Right before the last of the vegans goes extinct.
