#3 Not being a sci fi fan I have not followed the SJW campaign. I am curious as to the SJW response to the classics of Sci Fi such as Asimov, Herbert, Heinlein or Jules Verne. Have they been excoriated by modern "think" or just ignored?

#4 Sarah Hoyt's Darkship series are a fun read with some allusions to Asimov's Foundation Trilogy, and the Red King is an interesting read. Guess I'll sign up for the rest. Thanks for the heads up.

Heinlein is excoriated as a woman-hater in those circles, AlanC. I don't know about the others in particular, but the pre-modern period appears to be viewed as an entirely white male province free of women and non-whites as either writers or heroes. This completely ignores reality, but reality is not a SJW strength.

The movie Starship Troopers (1997) was made to be a parody and indictment of Heinein. Director said so himself.

Except there was a lot of high-fiving hell yeahs when I left the theater.

Then there were those like me who were like, now I have to read the book.

I think the book is awesome, and after reading it, I think I see how the director/writers were trying to do the parody and failed miserably. Starship Troopers is on my book one must read list.

Who cares? I know what I like, and I know how to find new authors what I might like. Reviewers - the last reviewer who, IMO shouldn't were shot was Spider (whatever happened to him?)

Spider Robinson? Of Callahan's Crosstime Saloon and Stardance fame? He was already past his peak and into variations-on-a-theme territory, in my opinion, when he wrote a "You deserved it, America" opinion piece after 9/11 and seriously annoyed a good portion of his remaining audience. But he is a Baen author, and they don't care about their writers' politics.
