#3 Either that, or they're the only reliable unit left in fighting condition. Either way it looks bad for Assad, and good for the Islamists.

#4 Assad is now in the Alawite heartland near the med coast. Expect convoys heading north west today. Could get very bloody.

#5 Said it yesterday, say it today. WMD's look like they will make an appearance. Saddam's method is the only way I see Assad having a chance anymore, not to say it won't be bloody either way. The army units and core supporters have to know it's kill or be killed at this point given what they saw in Libya.

#6 Possible scenario: Assad brother Maher al-Assad the enforcer "sez gas'em baby gas'em". Reluctant Assad inner circle sez.... "no way." Maher al-Assad gives inner circle a kaboom present, relocates to the Med?
