#3 As a past sufferer of migraines, that quit as mysteriously as they began after 20 years, I can tell you that people don't know that their headaches are migraines. They know it hurts, that's it. Probably a very under-diagnosed condition that many people don't have the $$ to address, just treat it with excedrin migraine or whatever else they can afford.
They are a miserable malady that I wouldn't wish on anyone. My wife complains of them about every 28 days, so there may be a hormonal connection for her. In my case, when I moved from Kentucky to California, I don't think I've had a single migraine since living in the state for the last 3 years. A mold or fungus maybe? Pollen or spores? Who knows, but whatever it was, they can definately keep it there.

#4 One of the minor characters in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin suffered from 'sick headaches', the old term for migraines, which suggests they were common enough at the time to need no further explanation.

#5 The thing is, there is no way to compare. I suspect anecdotally that it depends a lot on your pain tolerance and definition of what a migraine is. If someone has a bad headache they probably call it a migraine but it might be nothing compared to a real migraine and might be caused by other factors entirely.

#6 I thought I kept getting bad sinus infections, but the doctor looked at it and they turned out to be migraines. Happened for 13 years... then stopped. No one knows why. I suspect a lot of different types of headaches are actually migraines.
