Oh, yeah. Same as every month is announced breathlessly as "the warmest hottest month ever" by the NASA crowd. They should just stick to their muzz self esteem booster program. It's more believable.

#2 According to the Beeb, the number of fires this year is unprecedented since 2010, meaning it hasn't happened since the last time it happened.

As the news stories get summarized and repeated, the "since 2010" part will quickly fade away and become simply "unprecedented" or "a record number".

As a historical note, slash & burn agriculture is an old, old practice, especially in areas with nutrient poor soil like the tropics.
