#1 Not to mention the Russian led and supplied Cuban intervention in Rhodesia and Angola from 1975 to 1989, and Nicaragua and El Salvador during the 1980s.

#3 Good, I'm sure they don't have stringent ROE to abide by. In other news the US led coalition bombed 3 more sand dunes today.

Just a minor change to placate the Russophile members of the Rantburg community, meneer.

Wouldn't want them to think we were godless tranzis now, would we?

#5 Yeah, I was up to my butt in Russians and Cubans in Angola AND in Rhodesia (although I was NOT in Rhodesia, at least OFFICIALLY).

AND here is to rational ROE's and a squadron of A-10s for our advisors in Iraq.

#6 Just a second. Assad is an Iranian client. And, since Iran & USA are best of friends nowadays, doesn't it make Assad a pro-western freedom fighter?

#7 Depends. Is his novelty T-shirt in Arab, English, Farsi, or Cyrillic?

And, even moreso, a Russian one. Does it mean the US and Russia are best buds now?

#10 doesn't it make Assad a pro-western freedom fighter?

Well, we both are fighting some of the same guys, at least on alternate Tuesdays and Thursdays. And maybe depending which side of some rather fluid borders the baddies are on.

IMHO, it's all about having a port on the Med. Remember that business in Crimea? Same sort of thing - access. Plus Syria has been a long-time Soviet client. Burning them would be bad marketing.

Although, once Putin buys Greece, the preceding is null and void.
