#2 20-25 years ago, Scientific American had an article explaining why hydrogen fuel for cars was not feasible without [cheap] nuclear power.

That signaled the decline of the hydrogen fuel nonsense.

#5 In High School my science teacher was a widow because of a factory hydrogen explosion. Methanol synthesis is doable, hydrogen is just a bad, bad idea (hydrogen embrittlement, low energy density, explosive, the list goes on and on!).
