#2 If you substitue "terrorists" for "tourists" and "terrorism" for "tourism", etc., this makes a whole lot of sense, suddenly.

#4 "extending visitors maximum care and love"

Only a German tourist could possibly take this seriously, LOL. Okay, maybe a few of those Brits who love to play with their pink tanks.

In the US, well - marching around and making fools of themselves is an "art form". They don't really want to go to places which have no Michelin rating...

I think we should assign this story to Daniel Pearl Maureen Dowd. She's always moping about the lack of love in her life. Okay, Dowdy, maximum care and love coming right up.

#5 Nope. It won't work. It will be 2012 at the earliest. And that will occur ONLY if Pakistan starts on a fast-track program of outhouse building. And if they get that done by 2010, and a publicity campaign is successful, it still will not matter because the End Times tour packages will take all the potential tourists away. All the Paks have left is corruption and seething. Better hold on to what you have.

#7 So, is the high season when the riots and seething happen, or is that in the bargain low season?

Can I be part of a riot in an adventure package?

#8 As a kid I spent a day in Karachi in 1965. (Ship stopped there.)
The only place scaryier is Aden.
Why on earth would anybody want to be a tourist to Pakistan?

#9 Under other circumstances, I'd love to see the high mountains in Pakistan/Afghanistan. Hindu Kush and all that.

I'm a little less clear on the cultural attractions, though.

#10 I suppose the only tourism they will be getting in 2007 is when the 82d drops in to visit a few friends.

Are you kidding?

Koran recitations, beheadings, acid splashings, ah what have I forgotten? Dust storms.

#16 It's a beautiful country. I'll visit if I can:

1) Bring in a bible
2) Order a ham and cheese sandwich in a restaurant
3) Visit a church or synagogue
4) Not risk my life doing any of the above

Till then fuggedaboutit.

#19 The Pakistan government has decided to celebrate 2007 as the “Visit Pakistan Year”

Their first schedueled IS visitors are detachments from the 5th and 10th Special Forces Groups, and some CIA guys "on holiday".

#23 Lonely Planet has a video that includes Pakistan and (I think) parts of Afghanistan and Iran. Our intrepid traveler managed to arrive at a Shiite city on one of the Death of Hussein bloodletting festivals, and cut his visit short. He was obviously queasy.
