#1 Heh, an appointment in Samarra for ol' Zark. What could be more poetic!

#3 Sorry, John. I was actually thinking of the folk tale that inspired the title of your novel.

Death replied,"I was surprised to see him here in Baghdad, for I have an appointment with him tonight in Samarra."

#4 read this again and see if you can tell me what happened to him:
On Saturday, Ali Wali (a.k.a. Abbas bin Farnas bin Qafqa) who is described as "Ansar al-Islam's military command responsible for training and military operations including the planning of suicide operations, ambushes and kidnappings... an expert in the implementation of explosives as well as in the use of artillery, tanks and anti-aircraft weapons... and allegedly was an expert in toxins and poisons." CENTCOM provides a time line of Ali Wali history:

WTF?

#6 I like the reporting better when they give credit to coalition forces and leave any mention of a TF145 out.

#7 It's the CounterTerrorism blog, 49 Pan. They are interpreting what Centcom didn't say. I'm afraid people can't be stopped from thinking such romantic nonsense. ;-)

#8 Personally, I would like to see TF 145 become a romantic legend - kind of a cross between The Ghost Who Walks and the RAB but with more firepower.

Blood soaked patch of sand and a few scattered entrails in the desert? Must have been TF 145. Pyramid of skulls left by an intersection before dawn? TF 145. Car battery dead? Probably TF 145. Rumors of stern-faced men sneaking into Iran carrying cages filled with gene-spliced chubacabras? You know who!

But I guess I'm just a romantic at heart.

#9 LOL, SteveS. Indeed, a legend is born. I need new wallpaper... Got a pic of one of those skull pyramid thingies?
