#1 I feel for those gentlemen. Never got to that point where I needed an IV, thank God, but working day after day in that kind of heat takes a massive toll.

They've got to be getting some salts in those IV's, right? Getting overhydrated without some salt can produce other problems that can get ugly quick.

#2 IV's typically contain a 'saline solution' don't they? So I think salt is covered.

#3 Most IV solutions are saline solutions : they are designed to replace lost fluids including blood, and therefore have a salt basis.

#5 The standard high-volume recipe is 1 tsp each salt, sugar and baking soda in one quart of water, for the best rehydration formula. You carry the powder in a small container, then add it to a canteen. Makes the water taste very bland, but you absorb it like a sponge.
