#3 Typically, whether or not there is gold, the deposit is *always* upside down pyramid shaped. That is, more and better ore is higher up.

However, it is almost *always* pitched with the idea that it is pyramid shaped. That is, more and better ore, the deeper you go. Aka "The Mother Lode".

When whoever is trying to sell the mine, usually a played out mine, to suckers, they often support this delusion by "salting" the mine with good quality ore at its bottom. A very illegal practice, usually in collusion with a corrupt assayer, but one that always works.

If you've ever met anyone with a full blown case of gold fever, they are as gullible as a middle aged divorcee who believes Bill Clinton when he says he is going to leave Hillary and marry her.

#4 Gotta diamond drill the deposit first to map out its extents and grade of ore. Once you find that, then you work out a scenario to mine it. Subtract the mining cost from the value, making allowances for the price of fuel and of gold, and it's a done deal, heh.
