#1 Don't compromise too much and let your principles be bargained away. Otherwise the beating you took in 2006 will look like a light spanking in '12.

#2 1 - Keep pointing out that we're broke. When you have to borrow that level of money, we're broke.

2 - Pelosi & Co did not put a budget together this year. Precedent. Don't bother next year. Avoids an unnecessary fight.

3 - Only authorize funds for those activities necessary of the federal government, ie defense, law enforcement and prosecutions [which includes the prisons], etc.

4 - All others, force the other side to offer up what they're willing to cut, curtail or dissolve before even negotiating a thing on each funding authorization.

5 - Remember the Donk definition of compromise "just agree with them". The word has completely different meaning to the rest of country right of Bill Clinton.

#3 Just more evidence that the nation is doomed, the Trunks first instinct is bend over for the lefties even before they've retaken any portion of the federal government.

#4 Yeah, AzCat. My first reaction was, "Don't you even!" too.
But, compromise will be inevitable and as long as it doesn't expand government or put us deeper in debt, it might not be a bad thing. The pubs don't have a 2/3 majority and a presidential veto will be waiting for programs that Bambi doesn't like. (which can be a good thing since he will veto all cost reduction and government cutting efforts and make him look even more out of touch)

However, the Pubs have had a tendency to bargain away the farm to keep the wagon and they had better not pull that crap this time around.

#5 IMHO, one of the biggest problems is the majority party reflexively becomes intoxicated with power. Either party doesn’t necessarily have to compromise their principles to illicit cooperation. It doesn’t make for sensational headlines but the Republicans could, as a good faith offer, open up the legislative process to allow for more debate. They could reduce the number of bills introduced under “closed rules”. They could vow that all bills be marked up in committee prior to introduction. They could also allow the maximum number of amendments that time would permit. This doesn’t exactly provide for compelling political theater – but maybe that’s a good thing.

#6 Trouble is the only sort of compromise Bambi and his ilk recogniz is the sort where everyone else moves to where he is. The Trunks will go there, Democrats will breathe huge sighs of relief, the economy & the nation will deteriorate further as both parties drag us marginally farther left, and the lefties will successfully pin all of the problems on the Trunks in the '12 elections. We've seen this sort of thing before, the Trunks are Charlie Brown and the lefties are Lucy right there holding the football, err, compromise.

Trouble is that the right has always been afraid to exert political power always preferring compromise while the left, very successfully for a century now, has almost completely eschewed compromise in favor of exercising political power. Thus, in the latest polling roughly three times as many Americans self-identify as conservative as liberal yet the country continues to lurch further left at a very rapid pace.

If the wave is big enough this time I'd wager that enough pressure applied by the Trunks would turn up enough Democrats who like their seats in Congress to override more than a few Obama vetoes of popular legislation.

#7 Even Rush is kinda expecting it too it seems. The opening monologue was him warning and expecting the Pubs to go back to business as usual after Nov 2.

I fear that if everyone goes back to the usual business after election day, several states and groups will declare, "A pox on both your houses" and the interesting times will be on.

#8 Git a rope. And establish an official Tea Party ( or an official teaparty hangin tree ).

#9 Two words for these Pub leaders --

Bob Bennett.

The tea party tossed him out on his ear when he was all set to take another six years in the Senate, as was his due as a member of the elite. Bob instead will be home on January 3rd trying to figure out how to make a living as something other than a lobbyist.

Mr. McConnell, Mr. Boehner: no one says you have to be the leaders, and you won't be if you compromise the core principles and concerns of we the party.

I understand legislative sausage making. Don't give away the core, or I and a lot of other Tea Party activists, sympathizers and concerned citizens will be electing new Pub leadership.

#10 If they do, come 2012, this country will have a third party: the Republicans.
