#3 It's simpler than that.

He's out of money.

He broke open the only piggy bank he has left. He has to pay the lawyers, and while I'm guessing here, I'm guessing that most or all of his personal property and funds are encumbered in one way or another. He used the PAC money because that's what is left.

#5 Everything was in his wife's name. That's why the divorce was stopped, IMHO. More skeletons would be outed, like the property.

Lanny Davis was on Don & Roma a few weeks ago. He said Charlie has no assets, basically he didn't get rich while in office.

#7 Not to defend Rangel, but in a general sense prominent politicians (and other 'stars') are frequently the target of frivolous or vindictive laswuits and criminal charges and it can be bankruptingly expensive to defend against them.

#11 The Congressional Black Caucus plans to welcome the two newly elected black Republicans. Lt. Col. West already announced he plans to join and work to change the group's very progressive agenda; there are rumours that Mr. Scott is uninterested in going where he isn't wanted. No word on whether there will be unofficial meetings about which Congressman West happens not to be informed.
