#1 Who made the decision that telling the head of the hyper-power was a higher priority than telling the head of the murdered man's government? And why, when it appears to me, in my ignorance, that China's policies and practices won't change immediately as a result, and therefore no immediate planning or response on the part of America will be needed.

(1) Man dies; (2) Chinese tell US diplomats; (3) US President gets briefing really, really quickly; (4) someone finally picks up a phone to pass the information to the British; and therefore:

"It's a Conspiracy! Deep, dark and most-foul conspiracy sez' I!"

Weak tea... Agreeing with TW, the interesting bit is why the Chinese felt a need to drop the dime in the first place, hmmm? To assure the US that there was no Stalin-style Purge in the offing? Or that there would be no interruption in Sino-American *cough* campaign cash bundling?
