#1 Mortars allow the rebels to take the war to regime rear areas, and that will be bad for regime morale.

I can't see Assad making his last stand in Damascus, so I'm wondering how long before a withdrawl to the coastal mountains.

#2 If the casualty counts are correct, the daily rebel body count is 1/5 of Vietnam War numbers, which may indicate the war's intensity is far lower than Vietnam, but about as high or higher than the counter-insurgency phase of Iraqi Freedom.
