#1 The unstated goal of course is to have both taxes on each gallon purchased, as well as mileage taxes.

#2 money generated from gasoline taxes are declining across the country, in part, because of greater fuel efficiency and the increasing popularity of fuel-efficient, hybrid and electric cars.

The left pushed these cars and now there are unintended consequences. Oregon, Washington, and California are nice places but there sure is a left-wing goofy streak that afflicts the region. Why not tax the blather and hot air coming from the left or their politicians instead?

#3 Never talk about cutting back expenditures to meet revenue generation. How did the world survive 50 years ago without all those critical programs?

#4 P2K, 50 years ago, the world did not face the critical problem of global warming. Of course, they did have to worry about global cooling.

#5 My major objection to participating in a program like this is that it would allow the government to know not only how far I had driven, but where. Unless they have a warrant, it is none of their damn business where I go.

#6 That's the idea Rambler.

#7 Rambler - in the driverless cars, you'll only go where they want/allow you to go. Guaranteed

#8 It also allows to tax where you drive. Take the Plebian Way for a dollar a mile, or take the Pelosi Viewic Bypass, see the landscape and still save an hour, but pay twenty dollars a mile. Keeps the Griswalds out.

Because there is already a way to keep track of how many miles a person drives: the odometer.

#9 5,000 volunteers in Oregon can sign up to drive with devices that collect data on how much they have driven and where

And how fast...

#10 Tax bicycles also; they use the roads and cause accidents.

Ye'll thinking inside box. My proposal is to tax melanin-deficiency.
