#1 Moscow said it had fired 26 cruise missiles on Syrian targets from naval vessels in the Caspian Sea, 900 miles away

American version of "shock & awe". Fire a few hundred cruise missiles. Then send in (American) ground troops to pass out Hershey bars to kids and "build a nation".
Russian version of "shock & awe". Fire a few dozen cruise missiles. Then send in local allies---possibly with Russian arty/armor support---to butcher the survivors.

I wonder if it'll work.
