#3 Heck, I'd trade Hawaii to the Chinese for all the debt they're holding. You don't want to be American, so be it. See how the Chinese treat Tibetans.

As for Puerto Rico, it's what happens when you run out of other peoples money (to include indenturing your children and their children by 'bonding') to make political hay today.

#4 Lest we fergit, ITS NOW THE US-VS-CHINA-VS-NUCLEAR-ISLAM IN ASIA-PACIFIC, albeit safe to say or argue that the "US-vs-China" competition, rivalry will likely be the priority.
