#5 This is all BS to give union members a stealth wage hike.

Almost all union contracts do not indicate the wage level as a stand alone figure. The wage is determined by minimum + some number. So when minimum gets raised so does the pay rate of any union employees under this type of contract.

This was never about "living wages" but about typical Union thug behavior.

Two for one. More unemployed & more illegals---all voting the right way.

#8 Increasing the minimum wage is an inefficient way to reduce poverty, according to a Fed research paper that comes amid a national clamor to hike pay for workers at the low end of the salary scale.

#9 Ship, I think no mo uro is referring to the fact that many union contracts have automatic escalators tied to the minimum wage. Those are much more expensive, in aggregate, than the min-wage.

#12 The REAL minimum wage is whatever people on welfare get.

What the government pays people not to work.

#13 Yep. About $45,000 if you count health insurance, rent subsidies, food stamps, unemployment, energy assistance, . . . .

#15 In a way this is a good thing. Low skill workers will be too expensive. They'll be replaced with robots who will do a better job.

#17 Not certain of that either AlanC. Maybe tho. Again, it's bandied about a lot so there may be something to it, but I've never seen a contract with a minimum wage base multiplier.
But who knows?
