#1

1923: Tetraethyl lead (TEL) added to gasoline. Your gas will cost a bit more, but your auto will run quieter and more effeciently.

1972: Unleaded fuels introduced. It will cost a bit more to take the lead out, but your auto will perform better and emit fewer pollutants.

1978:
US Gov't issues tax credits for Ethanol. Your fuel will cost a bit more, but your auto will perform better and emit fewer pollutants.

2016: Non-Ethanol gasoline still available in some locations. Your auto will run better and get better mileage, but non-Ethanol fuel will cost a bit more due to increased refining costs and wider market distribution of subsidized blended fuels.

#2 And the cost of corn will plummet, taking the price of anything that uses corn (like beef and other foods) along with it.

I've read that a great many cows died in Texas in the sudden weather they had after Christmas, just as the herds out west are recovering after the drought. The price of beef may wait a bit before coming down significantly.

#5 A friend with a multi-fuel (switchable) car did a test from F-85 through to non-ethanol.

Results = mileage mapped the quantity of pure gasoline. The alcohol bought close to nothing in fuel value to the car. It may have been a fault of the car and yes the car was imported but not a VW. That said zero is zero.

#7 High compression is the key to making Ethanol work, well that a a coerced market. It can be done tho. Bad news about Ethanol is in high proof concentrations you can't see the flames if she blows up 'ye. Thinking the old Indy St. Vitus' dance here, true that was methanol, but still. Some people worries about wasting corn on Ethanol, me? I worry about wasting Ethanol on engines.
