#1 ...An acquaintance of mine on a military/current affairs board is from India and commented on it this morning.

#2 "WHY? when are our rulers going to understand that the moral decision while difficult in the short term is a lot better over time???"

#3 Why? The answer is right there: $US699 million.

#4 Tell your friend from India that we keep our friends close, and our enemies closer.

Would he/she prefer a Pakistan that the US has no influence over? That is armed only with Chinese equipment with only Chinese advisers? It is not the F-22. Relax.

#5 I'd be content with letting the Chinese have Pakistan. Then we can stop sending them billions of dollars in foreign aid every year. Doesn't seem like it buys us a helluva lot of influence when they give aid and comfort to the likes of bin Laden and Zawahiri. As far as I'm concerned, Paks and Chicoms deserve each other.

Come to think of it, how much of that US foreign aid money did they use to buy the F-16s? That's money that goes from the American tax payer to the private pockets of Lockheed and then it gets used to make life difficult for India.

#6 China and India are not going to fight another war. Pakistan couldn't win and what would India do with Pakistan and its tribal areas? You think Israel has problems?

#7 China and India --> Pakistan and India.

China uses North Korea to control South Korea. China would use Pakistan to control India, whom they see as a regional rival.

#9 TW, well said. That is why India needs the US to maintain influence in Pakistan.

I didn't think we had any real influence as things stand. All we seem to get out of it is the ability to dronestrike mooks that don't really matter.
