#1 After 30 years in prison this guy could not face existence outside. So he got himself put back in.
Put yourself in his place. Inside there are no worries about the future, about making a living, about relating to women. You get your room and board paid for, and clothing and exercise too. And no social workers to pester you.
Put yourself in his place. Coping with the world terrified him. He chose to go back inside. A disgusting way to do that, but an effective one.
