#1 Iraq, Syria, Iran, and Libya bought 'em.

Also a good possibility, if it didn't come from Iraqi, Syrian or Libyan stocks, the Russians might have helped the Kurds obtain them.

#3 The ~~Russians~~ Soviets sponsored and armed the PYD as far back as the early 1960s (ergo the PYD supports the PKK.) So it's not like this is a new strategy.
