#2 Its purpose, it is claimed by Russian news agency RIA Novosti, is that the White House hopes the ISIS militants will fight Russian troops in war-torn Syria.

The absence of a Mosul blocking force and continued delays might lead one to make such an assumption. Just saying.

#4 I hear it's being reported that Russia/Assad have similar hopes and are allowing militants in eastern Alleppo to flee with their weapons.
