#2 They would have been turned back by Canadian immigration if they tried to cross at a border crossing and wouldn't be able to claim refugee status as they were already in country of refuge. Notwithstanding that the USA could deport them.

Ummmm..."seeking" and finding are two different things my African friend. Regardless, not sure you have a "right" either.

#8 Assuming you entered in to Manitoba, you guys will have to bypass Winnipeg as there are Canadian Customs & Immigration enforcement folks there (and they're pretty serious about their duties).

Head on north a bit along the picturesque Highway 6 (also called MB-6) until you get to the nice little city of Thompson. There's work there in the Nickel Refining industry for those willing, but they might consider -20 Celsius to be 'balmy' for this time of year.
