#3 When did it become the fashion for former presidents to charge for commencement speeches?

Millard Fillmore (1850-1853) could not read Latin and refused an honorary degree from Oxford University, saying a person shouldn’t accept a degree he couldn’t read.

#9 When did it become the fashion for former presidents to charge for commencement speeches?
