#1 Rutland's not a big town, about 16,000 residents, so anything approaching 1,000 is indeed an ass kicking.

Cute little town - I did a century from Lebanon, NH to Rutland and back about twenty years ago, along Route 4 on an old piece of junk Team Fuji steel touring frame with Shimano 105 parts. High point was crossing the Sherburne Pass (part of the Appalachian Trail), at 2,150' elevation. Lots of climbing and good descents that day. Got the bike up to 53 MPH coming back from Rutland just before Killington Mountain Road. Fun ride!
