#1 Chinese publish a lot of staff, which (IMO) would be kept secret if true.

#2 "A dog with the body of a Dachshund, the chest and legs of a Rottweiler and the head of a Pit Bull. Something went wrong in the experiment. The dog isn't even edible--too tough to eat. We were trying for pest-resistant rice."

#4 I vaguely recall reading some medical literature about a gene mutation some humans carry that results in increased muscle mass, increased strength, much less tendency for body fat. The drawback was the individuals were prone to exhaustion for depleting their energy stores faster or to a greater extent than normals. They may even have been prone to hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis during times of great exertion.

#5 The dogs, which are test tube bred in a lab, have twice the muscle mass of their natural counterparts and are considerably stronger and faster.

#7 The problem with creating stronger and bigger muscle mass is the underlying support system doesn't change. If they made you strong enough to pick up a car, the muscle would tear away from the bone and the tendons would shred. It is even possible to break bones while you do this.
Unless you improve the support structure (or put regular people into powered exoskeletons) making them super strong and muscular isn't gonna be good for your infantry.
