#2 The swastika as a symbol of love? I don't think the distaff side (or would I) of the family would buy that cow pucky since many of her family got caught up in Hitler's holocaust in Europe and were murdered during WWII.

#4 Much of the world does not connect to that European history, JohnQC. But here in America we do, making this attempt to recapture the original Indian meaning more than a bit quixotic.

#6 TW. Today, there is a prohibition about drawing analogies between Hitler and his rise to power and the "Fundamental Transformation of the U.S." that we heard about in 2008. However, I will just say that if one were to try to find descriptive terms for that era using today's argot, one would have to say that Hitler's rise to power could be described by such terms as the "Deep State" and "Shadow Government." The Democratic Party of today or maybe one should talk about the "Beltway Party" has analogs with the National Socialist Party of that earlier era.

An interesting book from an insider's viewpoint of that time is one by Sebastian Haffner titled "Defying Hitler." I don't know whether it is in print today. Hitler's rise to power involved murder, corruption and deceit. It was insidious in that the German Constitution was subverted and rewritten. Judges were placed in the judicial system who were sympathetic and interpreted law according to Hitler and the cabal around him. The legislative branch wrote laws per Hitler and his henchmen as needed. The law was used to break the law. Those who disagreed with Hitler were murdered. Religion was weakened in Germany to facilitate all of this.
