#1 Sounds like a local Atlanta teevee personal injury lawyer advert.

#5 Wow. I guess usage, time, risk, whatever. Sure would like to be around the campfire when he strikes up a conversation with somebody from Cajun Navy. Personally I wouldn't use this boat, bet the drain plug keeps falling out and disappearing.

#6 People can choose to pay him to come rescue them immediately, or wait until someone doing it for free happens to find them. We don't know if he lost everything except the boat in the flood, and needs the money, or has even stronger reasons for not donating his time, gas, and the risk of damaging the boat. Either way, those who choose to pay will leave the charitable efforts for those who truly need it, resulting in more total rescues -- surely a good thing.

The blog post is worth reading, as are the comments.

#8 Upon review of TW's post, I'll moderate mine somewhat. Her arguments may very well be the case.

This aside, if I had lost damn near everything, except for my boat, I doubt I'd put my pain upon others. Gas money? Sure. "Wuber" services reimbursement? Nah.

$200/$100 are not "small" donations to those with mostly water in their pockets.
