#1 Has the Red Cross moved to smaller facilities in a less expensive local economy and transitioned to salaries akin to the Salvation Army recently? And are they going to sequester funds sent for Harvey in anticipation of future disasters like they did for 9/11? There are various levels of exploitation.

#3 New Echota, elevation 659'. The Coosawattee can flood in the Spring, but there's plenty of high ground nearby. Perhaps the Cherokees knew something.

#7 Maybe here?

Wow, don't nobody like the Red Cross anymore (trigger warning: enemy territory).

#8 I won't give the Red Thingy a damned dime.

Salvation Army, Samaritan's Purse, Mennonite Disaster Services, Southern Baptist Disaster Services. I'm sure there are others.

#9 Mennonite, Southern Baptist Disaster Services came out here. SA has brought us sandwiches to endurance fires. Don't know much about SP, but that is good company.

Red Cross is all show no flow. They get the prime booth locations and plenty of media. Seem to have earned themselves a bit of a reputation.

About donating to SA, I was told the most effective way to help is to donate to the local chapter rather than the umbrella - nothing wrong with the umbrella, just faster more efficient with local knowledge.

Thanks DG8368, interesting read. I'm glad everyone is getting into the assist, but I did have to giggle a bit after the 'Sure there are a lot of sportsmen with boats going about but Anarchists, yeah, totally there, totally organizing a response. Antifa:boots on the ground.'

It is the same advice we are giving here; don't just throw money at it, do your research. There are coyotes and vultures at every disaster.

#12 Apparently the only person who likes RC is BHO who is out shilling for donations.

About that organized anarchy article, they smear RC as too corporate. Could almost hear the sneer. Tyson Foods drove a truck full of food and a pro grill & team all the way out here and fed the town and responders for an evening. Didn't ask for any special thank yous or nothing, just loaded and came.

#13 Red Cross in San Diego had a rough period with an incompetent aloof aristocratic leader Dodie Rotherham the National RC removed, along with their entire board in 2002, in which the $ donated didn't reach the wildfire victims intended. Since then, they've cleaned house and their act up. Can't say how Texas's RC is....
