#2 What a missed opportunity for ESPN to televise the draft selection as a show. Expert analysis, interviews with last years first rounders, and of course a great background piece on those fleeing to Canada.

#5 Also a different year, but my number was hard to forget. It was... (cue trumpet fanfare)... 365!

#7 I was a few days from being drafted in Nov. 1969 when the first lottery of that era was suddenly announced. I drew a 362. At my draft physical a few days later, I was stamped I-A and then right afterward 1-H. A few months later a cousin was KIA when his Huey was shot down. His remains were only recovered after 2010.

#8 I was 121.
They only drew to 95 in Chicagoland that year.

#10 Good thing I was born in '49, I hid out in the Navy for 20 years. The SOBs never found me.

#11 Strictly speaking, I was never eligible for the draft. I had a 2-S college deferment. They eliminated college deferments for grad school, so I signed up for Navy OCS the month before I graduated.

#13 I was a few years younger but they never reached my number, and by 1971 I could see no reason to volunteer.
