Still, it's pretty dumb to deny a drink to someone who produces an expired ID. There is no requirement that the ID be valid (i.e. unexpired) unless produced for the specific purpose of the ID (i.e. travel for a passport, operating a motor vehicle for a driver's license). For a bar, the point of the ID is to provide proof of age.

#5 ZF is correct. I just looked up MA law (MGL Ch. 138. Sec 34B) - there's no 'expired license' exception for taking a MA license as a valid ID to purchase booze.
