#1 The CSU and Mr Seehofer have a history of pouncing like a Bavarian lion and landing like a lion skin rug.

They're more likely than not to ultimately blink and submit to Merkel as they've always done.

I'm ready for a positive surprise, but I won't count on it.

Yes probably, but I can also see the following scenario:

CSU and CDU split. CDU forms a coalition with Liberals and Greens.

CSU fights a campaign as a conservative force to stop the rise of the AfD.

But yes, Seehofer has this tradition.

This coalition has no majority.

Anyway, I expect ~~Drehhofer~~ Seehofer to fold. This would, of course, not be helpful for the CSU's electoral prospects and might thus trigger a reaction within the CSU.
