after the agricultural revolution was complete we were no longer "hunters" and "nomads" as we had been for the previous million or so years. so yes we started or de-evolution about that time and got small, weak and soft as a result

Nah. The boiling made it safe to drink; the yeast kept other things from growing in it; the flavorings made it shelf-stable.
