#1 A naval ship is only a slow moving foxhole.

#2 An accelerating and swerving foxhole. These patrol boats are cheap anti-ship platforms. Ukraine has no surface naval ships as far as I know. Adding them has some use but not much.

They are not a replacement for the theoretical capabilities of the Moskva. I say theoretical because many navies operate with units that are degraded in some way. I operated once with a South American navy that was proud of its two Italian made corvettes. One had an engine issue that only allowed it to go half speed. This issue, which they could not afford to fix, impacted every exercise that we did width that navy. We pretended not to notice.

I suspect that not all of of the Moskva’s systems were operational. I have a low opinion of Russian maintenance of naval assets. It is level above inshallah maintenance but still not good. Regardless, these little patrol craft will have cruise missiles, but will have short range AA capability only. You could probably take them out with missiles, but not gun fire. You can mortar a foxhole because it doesn’t move. For these little vessels, a missile seems wasteful, but they may get hit as the US is paying. In the end, the naval battle remains on the level of The Battle of Lake Erie, in that it is largely irrelevant to the overall outcome of the conflict.

#3 One thing is sure. A ship is not much good at holding territory.

#4 It can be. Usually it will cost you. The UK still has the Falklands.

#7 Oh, yeah, I remember that now. It's one of the 57 states.

#8 I looked at the Karatkurk class pictures on google. It reminds me of some Minerva class corvettes that I saw in South America. It look like some of the capabilities might be like a Perry class frigate. It is more appropriate, in my opinion, for the Black Sea than the Moskva. It has some AA capabilities with the gun and maybe Sea Sparrow like missiles- out to 5NM with the gun and maybe 15 for missiles depending what is loaded in the canisters. It ought to be able to protect itself within reason.
