#1 WWI would probably have never happened had the Germans not starting building Dreadnoughts in 1904 (I recall). Britain didn't give a damm about continental Europe as long as their naval superiority wasn't challenged (and the low countries weren't used as a base for an invasion of Britain).

#3 The complex web of mutual defense pacts didn't help much either. And as far as Jutland goes, the RN battlecruisers should of never been in the battle line as that was not what they were really designed for in the first place. People assumed that since they carried the firepower equivilant to a battleship they were equal of one. What they were really meant to be was a scouting force and cruiser killers
